Come to New Mexico, lose $11,000

| | Comments (1) |

The AP is reporting today that Dennis Ducre, a 48-year-old Pasadena man had $11,000 seized from him by a New Mexico state trooper, after he was pulled over for driving too slowly in the fast lane near Albequerque.

The seizure came about after Ducre told the police he had a small amount of medical marijuana in his car, which the police say put him under suspicion as a drug dealer. The police did not, however, charge him with a crime.

Incidentally, New Mexico DOES have a medical marijuana law, so it wasn't the height of all stupidity for Ducre to admit he had marijuana.

Good thing he wasn't in neighboring Oklahoma.... I recall seeing a news program years ago about a man sentenced to 99 years in prison for having a huge amount of marijuana (which he claimed was for medical use) in his house.

Also, I confess I wouldn't mind seeing more people pulled over for driving too slow in the fast lane here in L.A.

I live in New Mexico and at lease 2 - 3 time a week we will see the state police or sheriffs have out of state vehicles pull over and being searched. I don't believe it is a racist act I believe the target ALL out of state vehicles!
