Pasadena Obama rally: bring on the actors

| |

Last night I attended an Obama rally (which amazingly enough, drew an ever-so-brief moment of national coverage).

One thing I thought was funny though is that local Democratic groups thought the best way to represent the candidate who has been charged with being an elitist, Hollywood, celebrity wanna-be by the GOP was by having two actors on the short list of speakers.

James Reynolds, a "Days of Our Lives" star, was the MC for the rally, and another Democratic volunteer, Bill Hacket, also has worked as an actor. One of his roles:a Romulan Senator in an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

In all fairness though, Hacket has also practiced as an attorney, and has worked as a political organizer. Plus, in his short acting career, he was mostly an extra.

Also, Reynolds, who is a full-on professional actor, gave a very eloquent speech on Thursday, recalling being tear-stricken as a child after hearing Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream," speech.
