Sarah Palin in L.A. County

| | Comments (12) |

For some reason, despite the GOP's utter lack of chance to win California, Sarah Palin is coming to L.A. County for a campaign rally. I believe she is also here to fundraise, which is typically the only reason national politicians come here..... Obama, McCain, Clinton, and Romney are among those who have been here frequently in the last year for just that reason.

The rally will take place October 4 in Carson. Details below provided by the state GOP party:

Thank you for your dedication to Senator McCain and Governor Palin. We have officially confirmed the time and location of the Palin Victory rally in California. Drum Roll Please...........................

The question is, should we cover this event as a paper? Considering the governor is not coming to the San Gabriel Valley, and that the press hasn't been allowed within 10 yards of Palin since her candidacy began, I am inclined to think, if anything, we use the Associated Press version of the story, rather than sending a reporter (likely me) there. Anyone want to weigh in?

Sarah is actually coming to Pasadena. Didn't you see her quote in my blog's subtitle (at the top of my page)?

A real journalist would *fight* to get the story, against the odds - not whince or whine when a politician tries to intimidate them.

Does that mean I should go there and try to fight my way through the Secret Service?

DA, I think the local papers should just concentrate on local news. 4get about what happens outside of the SGV/Whittier area. And, cover L.A. city only if absolutely necessary.

Yes, you should file a report when Sarah Palin visits the Southland next week. These kinds of election year stories should be reported for future generations to come back and read what happened in the HISTORIC 2008 Presidential Election.

Dan--I'll give you a dollar if you get arrested by the Secret Service. :D Carson isn't in your readership area. If you go there, all you'll be able to get are shots of the crowd and talk to the True Believers. The former is irrelevant and the latter, you can find them closer to home. I saw some McCain/Palin people dancing on Myrtle in Monrovia just last Friday. :D I think it's funny that the event's at "The Home Depot Center," but they're holding it in the tennis courts. Even they don't think they can find 15,000 supporters in a metro area of, what, 12 million? I also think it's funny they're holding it on private property so they won't have to deal with the likelihood of their supporters being outnumbered by Obama supporters. And what's with their "NObama" signs? I thought they were going to run a positive campaign?

If this VP thing doesn't pan out, I want Sarah Palin and Elizabeth Kucinich to be in my new adult film: "Bi-Partisan"

I guess I just don't understand why a reporter would even think-twice about not reporting on a story like this. It seems like you were letting the politics get to you and were trying to do a quiet protest (that no one would hear so you decided to blog about it to make sure people "knew where you stood"). The thing is - as a reporter - you SHOULD report on relevant events - even if the subject doesn't want you around. Since when as the "subject not wanting you around" ever stopped a reporter from covering a car chase, a drugged up actress, a protest, a rally or ____________? The glory of a reporter is about beating the odds and "getting the big story."

Well, hold on Issac. I am not sure what the "big story" of Sarah Palin coming to California is. There is just a strong counterargument that this really isn't news. VPs hold campaign rallies and fundraisers every day. If we go just for the sake of going it is nothing more than free publicity. The issue of me going or not has nothing to do with Sarah Palin wants me around, but with whether it is an important enough story for us. I think there are tons of things going on here locally that Palin knows nothing about and will not at all be addressing in her speech.

What kind of an attitude is this? You sound like a whiney cry baby. You should reconsider your profession. As a journalist, I would think you would consider reporting on a presidential election "your job". Doubtful you'll still be in this line of work in 10 years.

Don’ t know why this made me laugh... hmm, maybe cuz it’ s such a FOXY BROWN thing to do. Those fracking tats is how I tell them apart actually. LOL, and just remembered that I was at the new MAC store in Rancho Mirage last night and they have a huuuuge photo of her, looks pretty hot I must say.
Over the past few months I’ ve noticed a new trend. Coffee evidently isn’ t enough anymore because they’ ve come out with the“ bikini barista” stands. Yes, the name says it all. It’ s like Hooters without the wings and more caffeinated.
