Air Force jet pictures

Some amateurish pictures I managed to snap of the Air Force jets flying over Pasadena this morning. In true amateur fashion, I missed a really great photo opportunity with the second shot, as the first plane (a B-52?) was so low it looked as if it was about to fly into the building shown.

Disappearing behind the building:

And the smaller jet (likely an F-16, I am now told):

It would be nice to get notification of these events before-hand. I had my battery pack recharging and my SD disk in my computer downloading photos when the first jets went over. Managed to get some photos of the fighters and the U2 - which is a lot bigger than I imagined but so much quieter than the other jets.

I am with you E- I wish the Air Force had dropped us a line.

yeah, advanced notice would have been nice. The larger one is definitely a B52. The smaller one is too small for me to be sure if it's an F16 or not.

The top picture are of a B-52 the bottom looks more like a U2 However I was on the 101 freeway in Hollywood and spotted a B-1B (bomber) flying in front of the Hollywood Sign following the Hollywood Hills towards the coast. Yes it would have been nice to know in advance so we could have taken a break from our daily life to watch the planes we pay for fly by!

These were the following planes that flew over. I got a nice view of them through my binoculars. 1) B-52 Stratofortress 2) U-2 Spy plane 3) F-16 Fighting Falcon 4) F-22 Raptor

Matt, you called it right. These planes are part of the Air Force Week celebration that is going on throughout L.A. and the I.E. I am a reservist at March and I can also tell you that these planes did not take off from Los Angeles Air Force Base. I know this because that base does not have an airfield. The planes most likely originated from their home bases do do the flyover.

A memorial mass at St. Elizabeth's Church in Pasadena had just concluded for our beloved friend, Margaret Urban, when the planes flew over. Thank you for the final salute in her memory. We appreciate it!

Thanks Marcel, I never saw a runway at LA Base, driveway 'yes', runway 'no'. Still wish we could have had a 'Heads up' on this rare event.

What caught my attention was the low flying plane (just like the top photo) swaying left to right - then going into a nose dive for about 2 seconds (probably over PCC). Yes it'd be nice to have a heads up!

I don't know where you got these pics but that was not the plane we saw. There were no engines on the large so-called cargo plane and it made no noise.... You trippin!!!!

say what: You may have seen a fly over of a B-2 bomber. These stealth bombers do not have external engines are are extremely quiet comapared to other large aircraft. The Air Force did have a website that had a schedule of events around So. Cal. but I am not sure if it is still up.
The last picture posted is a U-2 spy plane. It is a high altitude recon aircraft that is also very quiet in flight.
