City comes full circle on urgent care center

| | Comments (0) |

Two months after the city delayed approving an urgent care center at 3160 E. Del Mar Blvd. because of community concerns about traffic, city staff is recommending that the Council reject several new sites that were under consideration and go back to the original Del Mar site. The issue will be heard at Monday's council meeting.

The original delay was much to the annoyance of city staff, who did not want to risk losing a grant for medical equipment that would be used at the center (read more about that here).

According to staff, the Del Mar site would cost between $336,993 and $850,000 over 5 years, compared to between $4.1 and $5.6 million for the other sites.

Sounds like a pretty compelling case for going back to the site- especially since the other two sites were not much more to the liking of neighborhood advocates in the area (both other sites are still in Southeast Pasadena, and the neighborhood opposition really wanted the clinic in Northwest Pasadena, which the city's partners never wanted because they felt it would not be profitable enough).
