Gold Line still looking towards Ontario Airport
The Foothill Extension Authority, which is heading up construction for the Gold Line, released a study this week with two possible routes for the Gold Line to take from Claremont to the Ontario Airport (for a detailed account read here).
The only problem is that even with the money from Measure R (now officially passed) the Extension Authority is only guaranteed enough money to get to the Azusa/Glendora border. Their CEO, Habib Balian, told me today he believes they may be able to get the line to San Dimas with their current funds.
Contrast their attitude with that of MTA chief Roger Snoble, who has told me several times he believes a good possibility for connecting the Gold Line to Claremont would be with a Metrolink heavy rail line. That would kill any airport extension dreams.
For now, with Measure R passed, the battle is going to be set aside while the Extension Authority focuses on getting the line as far as Azusa/Glendora (the timetable has just been announced and construction will break ground in mid-2010 and is slated for completion in 2013.)
