Area's top running backs
Before the games begin on Friday, lets get straight to it. These are my top five running backs......Keep reading....
How are you going to argue with this.....
1.Lavelle Peterson, La Canada – I'm sure some will disagree, but the guy hasn't even scraped his potential yet. If he's in shape and not cramping up, and if coach Rich Wheeler finally gives him the 30 plus touches a game that he deserves, he'll carry the Spartans on his shoulders. Peterson rushed for 1,439 yards and 19 touchdowns on only 158 carries last season. That's a 9.11 yards per carry clip. And have you seen his legs..Looks like the rebirth of Earl Campbell..
2.Willie Youngblood, Muir – He has the combination: Talent and confidence, and he's only a junior. What I love about Youngblood is he shows his best in the big games. And you always want a back with finesse, power and breakaway speed. Look for him to have a huge year.
3.James Davis, Monrovia – Have to admit I haven't seen him yet, but the reviews are too good. Tribune sportswriter Aram Tolegian said Davis will turn the 'Cats into the power they were in the 90s. And if he was the No. 1 back at Los Altos, something tells me he's going to run wild in the Rio Hondo League.
4. Anthony Brown, Alhambra – They listed him at only 5-3 and 150 pounds as a sophomore, and all he did was lead the Almont League in rushing with 1,359 yards and 19 touchdowns. Brown also failed to reach the century mark in only one game last year. Now a few inches taller and bulkier, expect him and WR Zion Babb to be a potent 1-2 combination.
5.Nathan Bury, La Salle – He was the No. 2 back behind Dexter Bryant last year and still rushed for 940 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging nearly eight yards a carry. Now a featured senior back who is 6-1 and 230 pounds, his time has come.

This is a great blog!
This is a great Blog!
Jim M...
I looked for you after the game, Friday... you had already left. Maybe we'll catch up at a playoff game...
Monrovia has the one of the best coaches in the area and the best players buy far. I love those guys and watching all that talent and wish them the best as they win the Rio Hondo crown.
However Lavelle is still the best player in the league.
So Jim,
Does that mean that Monrovia has the best defense in the area?
O.K, Night Night for all the other running back in the area after the 345 yards rushing on 32 carries. It's over. Best Back is Lavelle Peterson
I can tell that LC Football does not share the cohesiveness that Temple City had between its high school and Pop Warner programs in the 1970's.
Jim M...
Sarcasm is difficult to recognize in the written word... but I read you loud and clear.
I can't wait to see all the adjustments the Spartans make this week for South Pasadena.
Not taking anything away from Lavelle... he's a beast running the ball... and showed it last night.
It is difficult to say that which player is better...
Lavelle, by nature of the team he's on, is showcased better than any player on the Monrovia side. Davis, when he had his chances, made the La Canada D look silly... there were three white jerseys laying along side the sideline when he took a swing pass in from 24 yds. out... and not one of them was blocked!
Davis, Thompson, Taylor, and Potts were electric last night!
Even though La Canada has the dumbest coach of the year award nailed down Peterson was still able to put 200+ yards on the board. Monrovia'a coaching staff out coached Wheeler hands down. They came to the LC games did all their home work and the score showed it. Wheeler needs to throw away his Coaching for Idiots book that he bought 90 years ago jump on his donkey and ride out of town. He has so much talent to work with but is to stupid to make a winning year out of it. He does not care if he wins or loses and now he has players feeling the same way. Congrats to Monrovia
Even though La Canada got out coached, out played and out scored tonight against Monrovia the best player on the field was Lavelle Peterson for La Canada.
What do you guys think?
Head coach Steve from Monrovia proved to everyone that it's pretty easy to out coach Wheeler over at La Canada.
With Temple City beating Sout Pasadena in the last minute 6-0. The race for second place in the Rio Hondo League just got a little more interesting.
Jim M
Thank you Big M. and New York. Our family gets back 10 times what we give in this situation with Lavelle. He has meant the world to our family and when the season is over I will tell all of you the real story about the Spartan football program and Lavelle.
Can you believe league is here already? Wow. We are getting older fast.
Good luck to all the teams as we head into the games that mean the most.
Prediction - Monrovia 35 La Canada 21
Be well everyone.
I too read that article... kudos to you and your family... and good luck to Lavelle.
Jim,
I just read the article in today's paper. You and your family sound like good people. Lavelle sounds like a great kid. I hope he has a wonderful career.
No offer from WSC yet. His brothers not a bad coach for the Fresno State Bulldogs either. The Skipper's know what is going on when it comes to football and Running Backs.
Jim M.
"How tough is the Rio Hondo oops Mid Valley division going to be when South Pasadena beats Alhambra and makes it look easy?"
You got that right, Jim.
Is Kelly Skipper recruiting Lavelle for Wassu? He's one of the best RB coaches in the country.
I missed them to. I was with Lavelle Peterson as a guest of the Washington State Cougars while the played the USC Trojans. The one thing the coaches told us during our visit was the Cougars would never stop fighting and they were right.
Had a great and we were treated with a lot of respect and got to get on the field for the big game. It was an awesome weekend.
Good luck to all the week before league.
How tough is the Rio Hondo oops Mid Valley division going to be when South Pasadena beats Alhambra and makes it look easy?
So how did everyone do Friday night? Let me hear about all the great games I missed.
Anthony stay positive you'll be okay!!!
Ditto, Jim...
Anthony, if you are reading this, get well soon. Study hard... train hard... and football will be waiting for you.
I'm with ya Jim!!!
My heart goes out to Anthony Brown and the entire Alhambra Football Program. Anthony Brown is a kid that I've seen at some of the college football camps and he is nothing but a hard working great kid speaking from someone who only knows him from a far.
Sometimes football is not fair. Like when Lavelle Peterson tore his ACL his sophmore year is was davastating.
I think I speak on behalf of eveyone who follows high school football in our area by saying to Anthony "Get well soon and we will pray for a speedy recovery for you".
Here is hopeing the rest of the season finds all these great athletes healthy for the rest of the year.
Stay strong.
Jim M.
After attending a few RHL games It's no doubt that every team has a standout but for some reason this year Monrovia is playing well about the game in the RHL. I think that they would be THE contender in the Pacific league. As for the rest of the league yes I think that Lavelle Peterson is good but I would much rather have Davis in my backfield in crunch time. What really separates MHS from the rest of the schools in their league is they finally have their 1-2 punch and plenty more ammunition waiting their turn. I think a lot of peaple will get a chance to look at the sophmore Kendall Boggs at some point this season who could prove to be as good if not better than both the dynamic duo. Certainly he's faster and bigger. For right now he is on special teams and I'm sure most teams will try not to kick the ball his way. I think that this year monrovia is mentally more into their game than in the past two years. They are shutting down offenses before they can get a play off and swarming the backs before they get out of the backfield. The problem with LaCanada is they depend soley on their one go to guy Lavelle which by the end of a game with a good defense could render him useless for the rest of the season either by injury or exhaustion. Teams like Monovia and Temple City will find ways to wear him down. Then their teams will wear the La Canada defense down with him. He's a good player but I would have rather him play for St. Francis so that he could play to his full potential. Playing teams like Gabrillano isn't going to bring up his stock. This could make for an interesting season for the Rio Hondo league, they might find each other playing twice this year in the playoffs and for the Championship, which I think that Monrovia High will Own. But this is Football and know one can predict any outcome until the final second. Good luck teams.
Classy post, Jim M... thanks for the M-town love.
I was on the sidelines for the Monrovia vs. West Covina game. These are two very well coached teams and both teams deserved to win this game.
Monrovia is very talented with all the parts in place to make a great run this year. Both Backs played well and Davis had a seconde half that was off the hook.
I really like Monrovia's QB who runs like the wind as well as throwing bullets on the run.
West Covina never huddled once durning the game and went hurry up all night.
Studs.
I still feel Lavelle Peterson is the kid who can give any defender a free night stay at Huntington on any run. Defenders are starting to fall down instead of going up against him when he gets his shoulders facing down hill. A class act. Lavelle needing 5 yards to break the school record broke free on his final run and with nobody between him and the goal line he slid down like a QB does to not score and leave the game with the record without putting any more points on the board as the game was all ready over as far as the scoreboard was concerned.
I admired both teams last Friday night and respected all the coaches on both sides. It was an awesome High School football game.
Did anyone catch Lavelle Peterson on NBC after the Denver/New England game on Sunday night? He was part of the highlights for high school shown on TV. Pretty cool indeed.
Here's hoping all the local players stay healthy and represent in C.I.F. this year.
Jim M.
Big M
Thought you might like to read some non-emotional statements. Seems that there are still some sensitivities out there. Hopefully LC gets their blocking schemes together before the "Big M" game.
Welcome back, John H...
Big M Lover
Not disappeared, just unavoidably detained. I thought that after the CV game, Peterson's season was over. Fortunately, his knee injury was less serious than first thought. I will admit that I was presumptious in thinking that the coaching staff at LC would build their offensive schemes around Peterson. Who wouldn't? Anyone with even a limited control over their faculties would do it. It is obvious that either, one, there just isn't the athletes on LC's offensive line or, two, they have poorly prepared for this season. All the backs mentioned have obvious talent and there won't be a unanimous #1 because this is a team sport and there are different talent levels and competition levels. Ribeye rare? At least we can agree upon how a good steak should be cooked.
Hey Death...
If you want to read my posts as an insinuation of Peterson... I can't stop you. I challenge you to try and find a post I wrote, on this or any other thread, that wasn't supportive of him or his team.
On the other hand, you and your brethren have bashed his line, his coaches, and his administration, unabashedly. I haven't done that... yet, it is I you choose to attack. You are so paranoid that "outsiders" are conspiring against you that you ignore the proverbial fox in your own henhouse.
While we're on the topic, realtime and all other arm-chair Peterson "supporters," it takes more than grades to qualify. A student needs those grades to come in accredited, college prep classes. Don't forget about the SAT or ACT. I hope Peterson has taken those exams already. Some of the more selective schools even require the SATII.
Based on your insightful postings, I'm sure you know all this. Good looking out.
Disclaimer: I have no idea whether or not Peterson or any student, not just athlete, in the valley has qualified.
Realtime, do you have any idea how many great athletes have come through the west SGV that do not meet minimum NCAA standards? Yeah, the "if" statement is pertinent and should not be overlooked. Stop exploiting Peterson. There is more to life than knowing how to carry a football. He sounds like a nice kid. I hope Wheeler guides him in the important stuff as well.
It is funny how BMLover and NY both insinuated that a player may not have good enough grades to go to a D1 school with out having any evidence to back up that idiotic comment. Then BM explains why NY said that. You 2 are both a joke. Go back to your bath house ladies. BTW I saw the game and was not that impressed so quit patting yourself on the back.
blah blah blah
TCscout...
Thanks for the recognition... Davis and the D deserve it after a great game last night. No excuses... WestCo finished like champions. We'll take the loss and learn from it.
Real Time...
Stop being hypersensitive. NY is saying nothing insulting or derogatory about Peterson or La Canada. I am routing for La Canada, and every other RHL team... as is NY, I'm sure. I am proud that our league is guaranteed to be better than .500 when we all start beating on each other Oct 13th.
We'll see you and Peterson then... at our house. I'm sure both teams will be ready.
If you went to the Monrovia West Covina Game you will know why James Davis is the real deal. Talking about heart. He is the best 3rd quarter running back I've seen in awhile. He is as good if not Better than Akil Harris who also had great second half games. He almost single handedly beat West Covina after a 19-0 halftime score. But I think the real secret weapons are the Monrovia Defense. As fast as the running backs were from WC monrovia had an answer. That is the difference that MHS will bring into the RHL this year. If you dont have a good (great) passing game against their defense I promise you will not win! Go get the film and check it out. The Linebackers are as fast as most teams running backs and all of them hit hard. I think the WC game is just the tip of the Iceberg. I think that instead of the RHL teams hating on each other Especially LaCanada Fans vs Monrovia, they should be proud that they have had great representation thus far in the preseason that makes them as legit as any teams in the CIF at any division. Oaks Christian is the Olny team I think that Any team should want to shy away from this year. Mission Viejo, Mater Dei, etc...you only play 11 men at a time on both sides of the ball. Everything counts A faster team definetly has the advantage so there where coaching comes into play.
I was just wondering when was the last time NY or saw his grades. If you don't know what your talking about NY shut your pie hole.
NY is saying that Lavelle will be great on Saturdays as long as he has made the grades... an NCAA qualifier. If he hasn't, he'll be the best RB Glendale CC as ever had.
NY what does this mean?
Lavelle is a D-1 running back as long as we (he)qualifies.
Why wouldn't he qualify?
It sounds like Lavelle would really have a monster season if he played for West Covina. It's not fair to say that Lavelle would not do well against a strong defense. It sounds like he would do great if he a comparably good offense around him.
I'll take Big M's word for it. Lavelle is a D-1 running back as long as we qualifies.
Gabriellano is pretty weak I'll give that to you but I wonder how many yards Lavelle would get if his front line was taught how to block better. If Coach Wheeler get some brains and works on the line no one LC plays has a chance. I just hope some of you doubters get to see him play some D. You will know when they put him in to play that will be just before the flashing red lights show up. BTW I am a big fan of his, besides him being the best back in the area he is a great and respectful kid.
I wonder how many yards Lavelle would gain against someone of the likes of West Covina? If you gave him the ball that many times and with their defense? Gabriellano does'nt even have a defense from what I heard...I give LaVelle his props anyway because I like good football. If he were a Rock Star he would have great supporters (Real Time and John Cook) Lavelle Promoter....have fun guy's and try and get some rest before Oct. 13th.
LC does have a weak schedule BTW when do they play Monrovia?
All La Canada has to do is keep playing a weak schedule and the wins and yards can continue to compile.
I'll be on the sideline for tonights Monrovia game to check out the talent and will report to all of you tomorrow.
Be well and keep pushing for the extra yards in all you do.
I can't wait for October 13th should be a great game. Have any of you boys seen him play D. He might be the hardest hitter hat I have ever seen in High School. Rumor is he is already getting fired up to Play Monrovia.
Congrats to La Canada, and especially Lavelle, for the big night... no one has questioned his ability... at least not on this thread.
Oct. 13th should be a fun game... see you in M-town.
Go Cats!
Lavelle's actual quote in the local papers recarding his record night"I was kind of determined to do that, but as good as I feel about it, I have to give credit to my offensive line. The made it happen".
His real totals were 345 yards on 24 carries averages out to over 14 yards a carry which set a school record as did the 5 touchdowns he scored as well.
However as good as some of your shoes must taste righ now while you insert them into your mouth's. That's not the kind of kid Lavelle is. He would want all the backs to do well it's just his nature.
It looks like Fred Rebledo may have hit the mark when he listed Lavelle as the best back in the area.
Time will tell and thank God for Gabrelino High School time will heal as well.
Jim Mulligan
New York did you watch Peterson play tonight or weren't you able to get the time of from McDonalds. 5 touch downs and over 300 yards. Lets make a bet,If he leads the area with the most yards at the end of the season you will wear LP's cup over your nose for the day. Don't smile I am just kidding!!!
One more thing football the team sport that goods back find holes when there is no blocking. How is 315 yards with no blocking?
Lavelle Peterson from La Canada broke 2 school records tonight 5 TD's in one game and 315 yards. He could of ran for 400 or more yards but they pulled him out right before 1/2 when he already had 4 TD's. Once he broke the record he dropped to his knees instead of scoring again. 3rd string at Monrovia wow they must be great!!!! I saw green jackets filming tonight at the game but they left a little early..
Sound like Emmit Smith. No wonder LC is ranked #3 in the polls.
BTW, don't knock flipping burgers. Things worked out for Ray Krok and Guy Snyder, among others.
5'9 208 lbs, 4.4 40 speed. Lavelle will be playing on Saturdays while the other backs are selling Big Mac's in thier spare time.
Can anyone say "full ride".
Davis is a qualifier... and getting many looks... but as a DB. He's a little slight for a D1a running back.
Sparks is a Special Ed. kid... he'll have to take the JC route, and go on as a non-qualifier... but he is also small (5-4).
TCscout, you may have Peterson ranked fourth... but his body translates better at the next level, and has the best chance of carrying the ball on Saturdays... I hope, for his sake, that he's been through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
TC
I can't wait to see this kid from Monrovia I have heard a lot about him. Lavelle did score 6 times last week even though it was only Glendale. You have to have blocking and then no blocking and they call dives up the middle. Call a sweeps or an option, don't send him up the middle every time. Have these other guys been recruited yet?
I went to a few games this season...I must say that Lavelle has potential but would be Monrovia's 3rd back this year. I think that he would be TC's 2nd back for sure. Let's face it guys line or no line a good running back will make his way to the end zone regardless. QB's are more important than any other position on the field and without that good quality leadership your backs could suffer greatly. But for my Money, I choose James Davis at Monrovia in this Rio Hondo league and Broadnox second and Sparks third, Lavelle gets a solid fourth place vote.
KC my son plays for Glendale and I don't care who wins or loses those high school games. I want his team to win but I just enjoy watching those kids play. Lavelle Peterson is quite the athlete. I could not believe my eyes what I saw from him. I heard that he was a good runner but once I saw him last Friday I am a believer. He is as exciting to watch as any over paid running back in the NFL.
B.M. reminds me of the guy with the cute school sweater on and a megaphone infront of him during his high school days. I bet he looked good in those saddle shoes as well.
He must have been someone the cheerleaders could relate to and sit and talk to when the football player boyfriend decided to hang out with his friends instead of waste the five dollars to go to the movies with the rest of the cheer squad.
Let's face it with the exception of very few high schools in our area our high school athletes are held hostage by high school coaches. Just because they have a teaching degree they can coach. Look at the guy at Marshall. Wow. He has really turned that program around.
It's the sad part of sports. High School Administrations don't care who coaches thier teams they consider sports as something they have to put up with.
Come watch a past administrator on the La Canada sidelines on game nights get into the offense and defensive hebbles during time outs and help the coaches call plays? It's unthinkable, but it happens.
The running backs in the area are studs. They will give us all a lot of enjoyment this year. I would put Lavelle Peterson's punt return against Glendale up against any run this year, but I'm sure for those of you who have yet to see it on film will find a excuse as to why it wasn't all that.
It's the nature of the beast and the beast is Lavelle Peterson.
Nice quote, NY... good advice
“Sun-tzu: If your enemy is superior, evade him. If angry, irritate him. If equally matched, fight, and if not split and reevaluate.
"no blocking...no holes...lack of coaching"
There go the excuses. This just reinforces my argument that there is NO WAY Peterson rushes for 3000yds.
So, Real T, if you, like the former blowhards, also believe that he can put up 3000, you lose... and I'll take my Rib-Eye rare... you can keep the fowl.
BM,
Why are you such a hater? I can tell that you are worried about Peterson. Don't be so scared it is not like you have to strap on the pads. You are right lets keep this about intelligent football issues. But I have just one more question, can you ride a unicycle through a hula hoop that has been lit on fire while spinning a plate on a stick?
BM,
Worry about your own or your lack of intelligence. Football is a team sport, really thanks for that. That's right it is a team sport and when their is no blocking and your backs have no holes to go through it starts to look like an individual sport. It is not from lack of talent it is from lack of coaching. Looks like every time you talk you start to irritate someone else. How would you like the crow, poached?
Knock...
I have seen him play... and he's legit, a D-1a prospect if I've ever seen one. If you check this thread, you will see that the only doubt I raised, regarded the proclamation that he would rush for 3000yds. I bet John H a Ruth's Chris dinner on it. (Since the Colorado loss, John H has mysteriously disappeared.) There is NO WAY he's going to reach that mark... and if you want to blame the coaches or the line, it doesn't matter... football is a team sport and he would need everyone to get 3000 regardless.
As far as Cook (or Real T) is concerned... try to stick to an intelligent argument to make your point... your constant mention of less-than-masculine traits points to, what could be, a deep-seated doubt in your own sexuality. Look up the psychological term of "projection". There is help available... there are free clinics, if that better meets your current status.
Hey Cook I think the red nose thing is funny. It would be hard to predict about how many yards Peterson will gets because he does not get the ball enough. BigMlover must be a English teacher. He must of learned how to spell from the debate class.
BigMlover(BM)
Have you watched Peterson play? Have you seen the offense that they work out of. When this kid runs he does it all on his own. Before you flap that jaw go watch him play. I would have 911 ready on your speed dial when he comes to town. He is the most powerful high school running back that I have ever seen. Don't worry about the steak I will grill up some crow for you.
Bigcornlover I will take one thing back, LC's coach will out smart someone. That probably won't happen. If Peterson gets the ball at least 20 times a game minimum he will have huge numbers. But then again the O line has not been taught to block. So tell the truth what was it in high school if it wasn't the chess club, did you carry the flute to the games, blow on the horn or throw the flags in the air at the half time show.
Hey Cook...
You and John H have been awfully quiet since the bold prediction of Peterson finishing with 3000yds rushing. I'm looking forward to Oct. 13th, and the BIG steak dinner I'm eating on your dime, John H.
BTW, Cook - Turn the page on your clown inferences... they're sophomoric at best (but that seems to be the only way you can communicate... what, was ENG 1a class at Glendale CC THAT difficult?)
"Just Flea" you still there? How did that red nose and the size 22 fit. Any news on that new rainbow wig you ordered. BTW I have a fruit bowl for you.
Looks like Peterson had a pretty good Friday night 4 TD's he really had 6 but 2 were called back. As long as he get 20 plus carries a game they won't lose. It is all in the coaches hand>>>
Where is Mr Cook from LaCanada when you need him. I heard they were missing a cheerleader at the Arcadia Monrovia Game. He seems like the Purfect fit for that yellow and Gold........
Hey John H...
What happened to the steak talk?
I know the kids on the LCHS football team well. They are an awesome group. Please come to a came and watch how they're being taught how to block. They only people the LCHS O-Line block are each other. In the C.V. game last Friday I went home and watched the film and not once did a lineman hit a backer.
It's a very sad situation for Lavelle, but he may struggle all year because of the coaching of the O-Line. Their was neve a hole to run through. Eight quarters of football and eight quarters of linebackers running free and just taking shots at the running backs of LCHS.
The Defensive Coaches must be licking their chops at the shots they will get at Lavelle this year.
It breaks my heart as a coach to see a kid put in such a dangeous position.
It was a feeding frenzy last Friday night for C.V. against LCHS.
Sad, very sad.
Jim you are correct about the blocking for LC they never touch the linebackers. The running backs have to make there own hole and that does not work. It is not like this team does not have plenty of talent they are just not taught how to block and blow holes open. No blame on the players.
I went and watched La Canada's game against CV. Okay I am on the Wheeler has no clue ban wagon. Why would you have your team come out on the field start running patterns and sprints then he has Peterson his #1 back practicing punting before they stretch., This guy needs someone to give him direction. I understand that he does not know that much but he should swallow his pride and ask for some help. When you run before you stretch people get hurt.
When your line is taught to not get on the linebackers and you run a spread offense from under center you are begging your tailback to do everything on his on. Lavelle is at such a disadvatage because he will never have a hole to run through. However that's why he will go Div. 1. Because they look for back who can break tackles and if you watch LCHS that is all he will do from the line of scrimmage. He will NEVER have a hole to run through.
He is the most vicious back in the area. I think most ot the safties that will come up against him this year will wet their pants when he turns the corner.
Going Deep I think that I talked to you at the game. Are you the one that had kids at LC yeras ago. That is a long shot because I heard so many people at the game complaining about Wheelers play calling.
Going deep you are absolutely correct. Wheeler's offense is an embarrassment. They have no clue how to utilize Peterson's talent. Peterson is one of the best players around but that team has a lot of great.
What is La Canada's Coach thinking? When you have a Lavelle Peterson on your team you build your offense around him. Last year the coach would give him 10 carries a game, is Wheeler crazy? Does he know what he has or does he know anything about this game? LC could have beat the team from Colorado if they had a good coach. Why aren't they sweeping or throwing screen plays or running the option. If LC loses any games Wheeler will be the only one to blame.
any news on ex-Los Altos James Davis, now @ Monrovia?
After an admirable game against the tough Colorado squad, we will see if La Canada's offensive line can help Lavelle Peterson out at all. With no passing game, LC opponents all will be keying on him.
A-Man our names are UNDER the posting.
A-man... you might want to check back to the previous posts. You AGREED with me that Lavelle is going to have a 2000-2500 yd season... or is that fact so upsetting that you must stoop to ranting denigration. Your personal digs baffle me... "chest club"? What does that mean? You can't be that stupid.
From his postings, it seems as if Cook IS a true Spartan, in a historical context.
Big M Lover is brokeback football your favorite show?
I believe Arciadiaman is a golden knight another program that dominates.
Don't waste you time on Big Mac Lover he is just scared. Can you blame him, if I had to face LC with that kid running the ball I may be a little scared also. Big ML shine up your penny loafers grab you pompoms and lets hear your best "block that punt" cheer. Great job professor plumb.
"a true Spartan, in a historical context"
Well said, NY.
Fittingly, he probably matriculated to San Jose State... I hate those guys.
Big corn lover I would love to sit next to you at the game and watch you melt in your seat. That over sized mouth of yours will easily hold that size 8.5 shoe of yours. Peterson will be fired up for that game just like he is fired up for all games. Hopefully no one gets hurt, his thighs are as big as my waste. By the way how was the chest club in high school?
And there's no need to call me professor... but I appreciate the sentiment, A-man.
I'm glad you agree with me, A-man... and I'll eat crow only if they serve it at Ruth's Chris.
BTW - there are three p's in "popping off"... go back to school.
arcadiaman
most of the jockeys have moved south to del mar. see you at oak tree.
From his postings, it seems as if Cook IS a true Spartan, in a historical context.
A-Man our names are UNDER the posting.
Thanks John H that was big mac lover poping off. The big guy will be eating crow soon!!!!
Arcadiaman...
The name of the respective posters are at the bottom of each post, not the top.

Enjoy the game and good luck to Monrovia. I hope our side bet keeps us both on the hotseat. Worst case we go dutch. Enjoy the long weekend and we can start the running back dialogue after tonites games.
Of all the days not to pick up the paper, where can i get a copy? I have been trying to surf the CIF web site having problems veiwing certain pages. Thanks anyway for your help Fred.
HSftblfn that was bad I had a lot going on at the time when I posted that. Thanks for pointing that out professor. I believe Lavelle will have more than 2500 yards and 250 yards against MHS.
HSB, if you have a copy of thursday's star-news, we listed the new divisional realignemnts..you can also find them on CIFSS.ORG
Hey John H...
Good luck tonight. That team from Colorado appears to be the real deal... at least CalPreps has them rated extremely high.
Countdown to Ruth's Chris begins tonight... "creamed spinach and a nice single malt scotch"... I see we agree on the dinner accoutrements as well. Should be a good night!
I will be at the Monrovia-Montclair game. I'm hoping that the 'Cats can learn something positive about themselves tonight. They should win... but more importantly, they need to gel with the new guys and develop a new defensive identity.
New coaches, new tailback, new defense... I hope it looks as good as we think it will.
"eating your words in a few weeks"
Arcadiaman...
Which words are you referencing. That Lavelle could have 2000-2500 yds this season? That La Canada has a classy team? Check your sources before calling me out... and try to speak as if you actually graduated from AHS. It's embarrassing.
I do think that that game will determine the league championship. I do hope that our boys will treat it as such. And I believe that the 'Cats can put the embarrassment of two yrs ago behind them.
FYI - the Senior "leader" on that team was a quitter and it trickled down (he quit on his Pac-10 scholarship as well). The leadership on this squad appears to be much more sound.
Fred
Do you have the CIF Division brackets? Where can I find them. I was reading in the LA Times this morning that Oaks Christian was moved up to Division X. Has the Rio Hondo been moved out of X?
I haven't, but I won't miss next week's game. I'm just hoping it won't be over by halftime, FredJ
Fred J have you seen Clausen play at all? He is very impressive. I love this time a year.
Big Mcdonalds lover and just me you both will be eating your words in a few weeks. I remember watch the game when one of Monrovia's player came up to Lavelle one on one and ran off the field instead of trying to make the tackle. That is not how they teach it there do they? Peterson has no injury issues and when he runs over players at will game after game you will be the first ones in line for an autograph.
Oaks Christian's QB is Notre Dame bound Jimmy Clausen, who will be here next week to take on Muir..oohh weeee, got any predictions anyone???
Monrovias only succesful play was their fake punt. That was because Lavelle was 40 yards off the ball.
Jim
I agree with you as to the type of individual Lavelle is. I am sure Lavelle and these other fine backs would prefer to let their talents speak for themselves. Time to strap on the helmets and see who emerges as the area best.
Where is Oaks Christian QB stud on Scout.com? Isn't he getting a ride to ND?
Easy everyone. Lavelle is beining recruited by most in the nation including LSU. And every Pac Ten team except USC and Cal.
My memory of the MHV vs. Lavelle his freshman year was both teams were 7-0 and LC crushed them by 40 points and Lavelle had 256 yards and put both their go to guys out of the game.
I know Lavelle very well and not only is he a wonderful kid he would never say a ill word about anyone.
Monrovia will never be out-classed in the Rio Hondo.
Monrovia will never be out-classed in the Rio Hondo.
I saw Lavelle run over Monrovia his freshman year,
and this year will for sure be the sameeee!! I also was at the game when three ambulances were needed to haul away players he ran over.
Mr. Cook. Think Blair High School. Maybe thats who you and your running back need to think about this year. No disrespect but the only team MHS normaly really gets up for in the RHL is TC. I dont think that your one running back is going to be ready to carry the ball every down this season. And about the bending over I'll leave that for you. And if you're into truth not Rumors go to Scout.com and check to see who really knows or cares about him or his sore knees.
Pardon me, Mr. Cook...
I know that your tasteless posts are no indication of the class that permiates the city of La Canada, the campus of the high school, or the players on the football team. I am happy that you are not a 'Cat fan, and I feel sorry for the true Spartans and any embarrassment you have caused them.
You indeed have a fixation on Monrovia's level of masculinity. Save it for a dating blog... and leave the football talk those of us who love the sport.
Big M
"rare"...at least we share one opinion. creamed spinach and a nice single malt scotch to go with the steak. we will get our first glimpse of what Lavelle's got this Friday nite. See you at the game.
Hey everyone, love the debates and comments, but lets remember to keep them fun. Nothing derogatory and please, no profanity...Fred
Monrovia's new running back is no chump, he is a great player indeed. Rumor is Peterson has turned heads all over the country. Don't cut short the rest of LC's talent. Monrovia has no chance, out classed out coached and will be out played. What color wig do you want for your outfit? Don't forget bend at the knees when picking up all the water bottles.
You sound so in Love with this Lavelle peterson guy that you would just like to carry his Jock. He is only makeing noise in LaCanada, not anywhere else. You obviously dont know a good running back. Just wait until you Play Monrovia this year and compare skill and speed with LC great Black Hope.
I have seen Lavelle Petterson play numerous time and this kid is the real thing. MHS what a joke, are you kidding there is no one at MHS that is qualified to carry Lavelle's jock. I saw him run over 3 people in one game and send them all to the hospital. I am not saying that he is the best out there but I am saying that he is in the top 5. MHS that is funny. You should put on a red nose and slip on some size 22 shoes and make a career out of it.
I saw him twice last year... he's a beast.
But 3000 isn't a number that you can non-chalantly kick around. I can see 2000... maybe 2500 if he's healthy.
"I'll have mine rare, please"

Missed the entire sophomore season with knee injury. Last year with over 9 yards per carry....why didn't he have more carries?? There have been plenty of good backs from this area and this is Lavelle's chance to join them. Comparisons are inevitable as is a free steak on you and BigM. Lets hope all your running backs on your list have healthy, successful seasons.
Hey John, I watched Lavelle three times last year and think his potential is unlimited. The problem is, he either hasn't been healthy enough or given enough chances to show his true potential. But this is his opportunity this season, and I hope he's put the work in so he doesn't cramp up. I think coach Wheeler is finally going to turn the offense over to him and see what happens. You know, 3,000 yards isn't out of the question with more than 30 touches a game. He is that good. But I would bet a Ruth's Chris on it
Fred and Big M
both of you are on! if lavelle has at least 200 carries (he will need 300) I say he has at least 3000 yards. Have either of you seen him play?
That's going to be an expensive night, John. Bring your Visa...
Hey John, I put Lavelle at the top of my lift, but 3,000 yards???? I'm with Big M on this one, put me down for Ruth's Chris too!!! I think 2,000 yards is more realistic
BigMLover
Ruth's Chris it is! If at least 200 carries. Ever seen him play?
Come on, John...
300 yds a game, huh? How 'bout dinner at Ruth's Chris when he doesn't make it.
I think that Anthony Brown is the best running back in this group he has it all. The power, speed, blocking in the backfield, he can catch, and he has so much heart.
That's a Joke this LaVelle Peterson.. He would'nt even start at MHS this year let alone maybe 29 of the last 30 years.....I can start nameming Monrovia High School and John Muir Running backs that were better as Freshman than this Kid is going to be as a senior. Try again....Maybe best Tennis/Player in the SGV..Hmmmm. James. DeCuir, Paul Hewitt, Akil Harris, Obie Graves, Dennis Brown, Etc...Etc...Look them Up..LaCanada would kindly Pay to have anyone of these guy's in their Backfield (If it were legal)(: And Just for the Record...LaCanada and the rest of the RHL You are not going to be priveleged to have a half of a Monrovia team showing up to play...You better be ready to run....Back to the good ol days.
lavelle peterson will rush for over 3000 yards if he stays healthy.
What about Akil Harris and Desmond Reed?... Peterson has a way to go.
Hasn't been a running back in this area as good as Lavelle Peterson since the Blair pair back in the 70s.
Wille Youngblood will surprise the SGV.
I think that by the end of the season that James Davis will be the SGV'S #1. D-1 schools are already on the prowl for this CAT.
