Observer, good post.
It's a game I know the fans and alumni want. It's a game the players want. It's a game the community wants.
Not all teams have chances to win CIF championships, or even league titles.
But all schools deserve to have their lone title shot - a rivalry game - which sadly seniors at San Gabriel and Gabrielino won't have this season...
I'd stop the finger-pointing, and make that game happen next year. And If I was a fan or parent, I would encourage the administration and coaches at San Gabriel and Gabrielino to make it happen.

Why is it that the two schools can play each other in other sports, both boys and girls, and there is no problem? I have watched the schools play in soccer and basketball. The games have been hard fought and exciting, with no one school having dominance over the other, and I have observed no incidents afterwards. So, if the rivalry can be played in other sports, surely it can happen in football. Going back to your original post, contrary to what the Gab coach said, I think it is a good fit, for both schools and for the community. And to TD, you may be completely right, but what you are claiming about where the two players live is not what the Gab coaching staff and administration is claiming.So, who do I believe, you, or them? And unlike you,I have no stake in this. I just want to see h.s. student athletes get a chance to perform fairly, under fair conditions, not about coaches and administrators. You claim to be a former Gab student athlete. I think you can agree to that.

One thing is obvious. There is a lot of passion with this rivalry. It's sad that it's not settled on the gridiron.

We could go back and forth forever on this, but back to the original question: What happened to the rivalry? This was going to be a great game for the city. I think parents and players should encourage their coaches and adminstration to get this game going again next year..Remember, it's about the players not the politics...

First of all, Dakota Gordon lives in Montebello right next the Montebello mall. Secondly, Cedric Ho lives in San Gabriel and has been in the SGUSD since he was a kid, what a coincedence he wants to attend a AUSD school his Senior yr??? Observer, I used to play with both of these guys so I would think my facts check out. U are obviosly associated with SG so u have no credibilty. The fact of the matter is they illegally transfered schools and they are getting what they both deserve!!!

TD, allow me to respond. You are missing some important information here. The players in question here allegedly used a fake address to play at Gabrielino in the first place. They were going to use their REAL address to play for SG this year. It was only reported by Gab coaches and administration AFTER the students came to enroll at SG using their REAL address. Supposedly, the coaches at Gab are saying they didn't know that a fake address was being used by the players, but what a coincidence that they found out as soon as the players weren't going to play for them anymore. They were the ones who went to CIF with this. So TD, now that you have this information, who would you say is at fault in this?

Fred, you make a good point. If the students were using fake addresses, and the Gabrielino coaches and administrators knew about it and were in collusion with them, why should the players (Ho and Gordon) get punished for what they were allowed to do and were assisted in doing by the school? Should a kid be punished for doing what their elders condoned? Why not punish or at least censure the adults who helped in this? I say go after the administrators and coaches at Gabrielino who orchestrated this whole thing, and let the kids play. Had they not been allowed to do this, they wouldn't be siiting out their senior seasons.

Well Fred, you wanted to know what happened to the rivalry? Looks like it still exists. Unfortuntely, it is now being waged by adults rather than student/athletes, and in a rather shameful way. These so-called role models (parents, teachers and coaches) have resorted to name-calling, hurling invectives and the like at each other, and for what? Instead of there being some community bridging with a healthy rivalry between students/athletes in the community, students are being used as pawns to "fight" a pseudo battle of egos. But, in the end, nobody wins and a few students, who are the real victims here, lose. Teams will still play, coaches will still coach, and parents will continue to do what they do, but the student/athletes who are being denied the opportunity to play are being unfairly punished. I thought that what this rivalry was all about was contests being played on the field while we cheered from the stands and the winners had bragging rights for the year. Sorry Fred, I must be out of touch. Excuse my naivete`.Or have the adults become the children in this saga? If that is the case, some of them, on both sides of this, need to grow up, and act like the role models they are supposed to be.

Zeke, get your facts straight, I never said anything about Jones or why he left. In fact, I was one of Jones' biggest supporters when he decided to step down because school officials wouldn't step up to the plate and get him full-time assistants.
This thread comes down to two things, if players knowingly lived in an illegal address while attending Gabrielino, and whether Gabrielino's football coaching staff or administration knew about it, and condoned it, which the players are alleging they did..
If both are true, CIF might ask Gabrielino to forfeit all games in which these two participated in last year, and since Ho also played basketball, that could mean forfeitting the Mission Valley League title. But who knows what will happen, that's for CIF to decide, the investigation is ongoing. But I'll tell you what, if Gabrielino is forced to forfeit several games because of this, I feel bad for the players who did nothing, because they're the ones who have to pay the price for someone else's greed.

Jones left because the Administration wouldnt budge with several request, that would create a better program for the kids. Donald B was the only one who jumped ship, to go to a program that was having some success with guys out of the area. the rest of the staff stayed WHY? becasue it was about the kids. yeah i said it.
so still no answer, Has Gabby helped any student athlete receive any scholarship?

Until CIF gets serious with sanctions or penalties, the cheaters will still cheat. The sad part of it is that the kids will be the ones that suffer... there is no easy answer.

Coaches are supposed to teach morals and character... along with football... maybe they, the administrators, and the board needs to be reminded of this.

This thread is an embarrassment for both schools. I'm glad MY kids aren't there!

First of all, Cedric Ho has been in the SGUSD since a child, and my child is close friends with him, and he has lived in the same district as well as address for many yrs. Secondly, What kind of coaching staff does San Gabriel have that when Coach Jones left that team the majority of the SG coaching staff jumped ship and went to coach at GHS??? I see the story, when things get tuff, lets just throw in the towel ( as well as pride) and start a new some where else, and that is exactly what Ced did. That is a great lesson to teach our kids for the future, just give up on something if it gets difficult and you will be ok. Lastly, Rules are Rules. Especially When it comes to CIF, if he didnt want to deal with the consequences, he shouldnt have broken the rules. I am really interested on what you have to say Fred???

Hey guys, I'm learning as I go along. I started this thread asking what happened to the game? But it's taken on a life of is own. I have called CIF to find out the status, and the investigation into Cedric and Dakota is ongoing. There could be more to come....And I don't want to speculate, not until I know all the facts

Wow Fred, you really opened up a can of worms. Bottom line is that if Cedric Ho is punished and ruled ineligible to play at SG, then Gabrielino should also be punished for allowing him to play when he was living out of the area. How can GHS or anybody else dispute that? Where is Murphy is all of this?

Gabrielino coaches are the real cheaters. If someone doesn't want to play for your school, you snitch them out to the CIF!But, if they want to play for your school, you let them use false addresses. Is it true your office workers have students using their home addresses to be elibible? Is it true your coaches who check these addresses of these kids lie and make them elibible? Tell the truth!! You only told on Cedric and Dakota because they were leaving. Anybody who plays sports at Gaybabylino beware: If you try to leave they will make sure you can't play anywhere else anymore!

As we all know recruting is a big part of winning, and when you develop the winning seasons than the kids just seem to flock to the program. for example watch two a days on espn, kids move to that area just to play at a program that is in best interest for the kids future key note KIDS FUTURE! so its not about the Gabbys or SG its about the kids right! Do the readers understand, that Gabby turned their back on a kid that gave 3 years to their program, and a kid that will now forfiet his senior season because the (adult) Coaches at Gabby are unhappy with a decision thats best for the kid. key note Best for the kid!!

Deal with it. Work with the kids you have and coach them up. There is plenty of talent to go around, but none that want to play at Gabby.

Gordon, they havent even been mentioned all season. Just players with big egos, false dreams and no potential. SG still hasnt won a league championship for maybe the last 20 yrs and they wont this yr.

Whether the kids that were formerly at Gab who are now attending Sg did it with fake or their own addresses, a few things should be made clear: Gab coaches knew about it and decided to turn on the kids when they wanted to leave their program. If the kids were so easily recruited away from their school, then what does that tell them about their own program? Finally, if what they did by turning in these kids was doing the right thing, why don't they really clean house and remove kids that are at their school and are using phony addresses, not just go after kids who no longer attend their school. Gab coaches are like the jealous ex-girlfriend who doesn't want anybody else to be with their old boyfriend. Quit hating Gab. Get over yourself.

That is so much crap! The DC at SG didn't recruit anybody. Gabrielino admitted as much when they said the kid was illegal even when he played there. They even threatened the kid when he wanted to leave that dump. We all know the truth but nobody wants to come out and say it. SG did nothing wrong. Pound SG? Yeah right. You mean like they poinded Pioneer?

I would love to see the rivalry continue as well. Rumor has it San Gaybriel has their coaching ( Def Coor.) working at Gabrielino, and illegally recruited some of their players to switch schools, even providing them with fake addresses. So their is plenty of bad blood between the two schools. I wouldnt mind seeing GHS pound SG a couple more times, but I guess we're all going to have to wait and see...
Prediction for SG, they go 1-4 in league, with their only win over their real rival Mark Keppel
