Every Monday morning we sit down and discuss athlete of the week nominees for boys and girls that run in Wednesday's Star-News. Starting today and every Sunday, I'll post this thread so bloggers can weigh in. I would love to have your input as well. I would like to see all sports given the time that Football and basketball get. As far as Althlete of the Week suggestions please look at all schools, all sports, and consider althletes that particiapte on the whole team. Not only the student that scores,or stops a player from scoring, consider other players as well!

My vote for athlete of the week is Alex Jimenez of La Salle.
His dominating performance on both sides of the line plus his two key defensive plays, at the end of the half and at the end the game, qualifies him for this honor. He has had 5 sacks in 3 games against quality opponents. Verbum Dei spent the whole afternoon running away from him and when they did the payed. He is finally showing the talent evey one knew he had.

C'mon Big M, Youngblood couldn't play the second half because he was at the hospital getting checked for a spinal injury. Fortunately, he's fine.
"This contributes to the belief that the Star-News caters to its greatest readership."
Do you really believe that? We spread it around as much as possible and cater to teams that are doing well. By the way, there's been more ink on Monrovia than Muir this season. And so you know, we have a story running on Potts tomorrow.

BigMLover said:

I'm disappointed with Youngblood as the POW... he didn't play in a marquee game, he played less than a half, and his numbers came against air.

Many better choices out there... this contributes to the belief that the Star-News caters to its greatest readership.

Parish fumbled away a probable win last Friday. I don't care what his stats are... if you asked him, I bet he would decline consideration for Player of the Week.

Ken N said:

Josh Parish at South Pasadena. 25 tackles, 2 sacks against T.C. Oh, guess what he never came off the field. Its kind of scary to think what he can do if he was just on defense. This kid is a jewel. If he had a line like broadnax, that would be scary as well. hats off to that young man, well deserved.

u are very wise Bigm when it comes to how monrovia plays blair. i hope they show no mercy to these guys. i mean expect monrovia if they have their'A' game to put up at least 40-50 points yeah they have speed but no execution. im not a blair hater i was rooting for them to knock off san marino because i felt they had too much hype before league about their defense but they didnt play anyone with team speed. so i hope the cats take care of business

New York said:

Blair was the only blemish ( a tie) on Monrovia's Rio Hondo record during the great run in the late 1990's. In fact, that was exactly 10 years ago.

BigMLover said:

Blair is absolutely a trap game... the Cats routinely play down to the Vikings. They definitely can't look past Blair this year... not with the improvements they've made under Tip so far.

Blair WILL beat the Cats if M-town takes them for granted.

Philly B. said:

we don't need walker anonymous. we're doing fine. im glad he's a junior so that we can beat arcadia again at our house. my questions of the week is. Can "San Marino" upset T.C. like la salle did? if u think they can how? and why? is Broadnax really 100%? so many things to think about in that game. and is any one taking la canada over south pas. i mean to keep T.C. with only 6points says alot to me i give a little respect. and will the game between monrovia and blair be a trap game for the wildcats. i hope not but what is everyones thoughts on the next games for the "race for the rio hondo league"

david potts is an amazing quarterback. potts or walker should get it. hmm why not both?!

imagine if potts had a receiver like walker in his arsenal...wow

Anonymous said:

walker for the apaches. tremendous athelete and i think is the best receiver in the league as of right now. whats most impressive is that he's only a junior

hsfbfan06 said:

i really enjoyed watching the play of kevan walker for arcadia. He showed he can play multiple positions on the field and is a team player. He's my vote

BigMLover said:

Although Arnold is THE defensive force in the league... he only played one half of football this week. He should be omitted from consideration... but next week and after, is a different story. On this pace, he is the Defensive Player of the Year... no question.

BigMLover said:

Potts is my player of the week. He was extremely efficient in his play Friday night. His stats were cited earlier... but his in-person play stands out. He is so elusive... and, this year, decisive.

Good luck gameplanning for these Cats!

Philly B. said:

David Potts really showed up on friday night. he was getting the ball everywhere. his accuracy is improving. Can he get better, yes will he yes. also albert arnold rerally came to play on both sides of the ball.

the stats may not show it but the Monrovia QB Potts had one of the best games yet! The Wildcats were looking for another option when LC decided to put 8 or 9 guys in the box and Potts stepped up and carried the team to a 38 - 0 vicotry over a solid LC team.

his stats were 12-18 for 165 yrds. 1 TD and 0 TURNOVERS!!! That is the KEY!
