Where is Alex Jimenez the CR sack leader? He and Andy Saldana deliver the 1-2 punch for Coach P. In the Mary Star game he took on the tackle, pulling guard, who got forklifted into the running back for a loss of yardage.

Andy Saldana of La Salle

FredJ said:

McGowan must have a pretty big family. He's running away with the poll.

lancerD said:

defense is all about blood sweat and tears, andy saldana has givin all 3 in his three years as a varsity starter. putting up consistant numbers week to week are only small faction of why he deserves this. there are not allot of guys who can run and hit between the whistles as hard as #3 can.

p.s. where was Alex Jimenez

Joshua Parish has my vote. he is the heart of the so. pas defense. but im wondering why does san marino pat mcgowan have over 1800 votes?!?! are the computer geeks of san marino hacking into the computer systems and putting in votes like crazy or something??? something's fishy here fred...

hsfbfan said:

BigA, I think he (Robison) is a go but limited.

Observer said:

Stang Fan is right about Lance Mitchell. He is considered by Scout.com as the top DB in the area.

BigA said:

hsfbfan,

Agreed. Robison was a huge factor in the wins against Pasadena and Bell Gardens. Any word on how he is doing?

crazyqube said:

BigA he played, but did not have the chance to make an impact on defense. He was definetely outgunned and neutralized.

crazyqube said:

There is no question about Andy Saldana and Fred has already included him, we are talking about whom else. The other power at La Salle on the D side of the ball is Alex Jimenez, ask any coach that's played against him. The respect he gets is not easily found, besides the fact that no one counts "twofers", all the double teams he takes on, leaves his Line backers to clean it up.

crazyqube said:

RampRide, we have not heard from you lately, but just to clear the issue on Joe Reisner and your La Salle comment, they had to move him from the Mike LB spot to the outside, because he get kept getting BLOWN UP on every single trap play that the Lancers ran to his side! So much for that!

Rio Hondo dad said:

My vote for best defense player of the season is definately Mike Galvan. Unfortunately, good players from small schools don't get the same exposure. Mike has great stats thus far. Keep an eye out for him I'm sure you'll agree.

smtforme said:

Andy Saldana by far...hardest worker on the team, with the most heart of anyone in the SGV..He's been through alot and hasn't let up a bit even with his past injuries

hsfbfan said:

South Pas hsfbfan, I been using this name since early July on Aram's blog

Big A, none of our defensive guys have lead us to a big victory yet. The key for us is a healthly Kris Robison. You can't replace a dude like that.

BigA said:

Crazyqube,

Thanks for the info. I remember reading something about Akeem moving to Linebacker but I wasn't sure if he was playing that during the La Salle game. Thanks.

Stang Fan said:

It's funny how soon people forget. Lance Mitchell was voted as the #2 safety in the West by Scout.com. Yet, because of Muir's depth in the defensive backfield and because of Lance's propensity to knock the snot out of ball carriers, the team has moved him back and forth between safety and linebacker. Every game this year, with the exception of Oaks Christian, Lance has made play after play and had at least one MAJOR hit a game. HE is by far the best defender in the area. Bar None!! And he has to play QB too!! If you don't believe me, then ask the college scouts who line up at his games.

hsfbfan said:

Josh Parish. He has 131 tackles averaging just over 16 tackles a game. Not to mention the fact that he has 8 sacks on the season. He anchors the SP defense and is by far the best defensive player on this list. Josh has my vote.

crazyqube said:

BigA, Akeem played at DE on the La Salle game and just for the record the game winning touchdown went right over him! It was off tackle Jimenez blocking and Burry carrying. On the Mary Star game, they switched Akeem to LB and he singlehandedly destroyed them. One play he sacked the QB and Tailback all at once. that's a more natural position for him and you will see him playing that in college instead of DE. He had over 3 sacks on that game and 2 TD receptions.

RH Prep fan said:

I would also have to say Galvan From RHP. I mean he goes both ways and is also the teams long snapper. I don't know about these other guys but he is in the game about 95% of the time. Go Kares!

kade said:

JOSHUA PARRISH.

BigA said:

Wait, is Akeem Ayers still playing D-end or did he make the transition to Linebacker? Do u know trojanator or any La Salle fans that were at the Verb-La salle game?

BigA said:

Look your right I was wrong. I was basing my opinions on years past. I give a lot of credit to La Salle. They did a hell of a job. I did not know that but thank your letting me know. La Salle did a great job. I hope they continue their sucess and represnt the SGV well. Although it seemed as though I were ripping on them, I give them a lot of credit. They have a tougher schedule this year and in years past and it helped them in that Verb game. Good job to them.

Trojanator said:

Big A u went to that la salle Verb game?? are u sure you were watching the right game? You know there is a site called maxpreps.com and u can go look at verb's team and click on ayers and you will see in big BOLD LETTERS ALL OF HIS STATS IN THAT GAME!!!! KNOW YOUR STUFF BEFORE U START RIPPIN SON! yea akeem ayers was one on one against #40 the entire day! and waht did he do?? 2 catches for 36 yards and 1 TD... if that't not saying enough, he had no sacks going head up against casey hilland who completely dominated him. O btw good job getting blown out of the water by burbank.

johnny ni of the titans. crazy inside linebacker and heart of the defense

Neutral...interesting statement...about last weeks game.

Arcadia had Burroughs on their heels the entire game. It would have been 21-21 had Kevan Walker's TD not been called back and along with 4 turnovers. I'll admit this season for La Salle is a tougher schedule. I am surprised they beat Verbum but then again, UCLA commit Akeem Ayers was out of the game.

How would a team loser to a lower division team? Then why do team's lose to Oaks Christian? Arcadia was in that game the whole time and Monrovia hasn't seemed to be tested except for the Arcadia game so.

Monrovia-Good
TC-I guess we'll find out who good they truly are
Eagle Rock - Smashed La Salle
Huntingpark - La Salle played a nice game (given credit)
Verbum Dei - League game...Akeem Ayers out of the game (La Salle really took advantage of Ayers being out. GOod job by them.)

Neutral said:

Ya who does La Salle play. O ya i forgot, Monrovia, TC, San Marino, Eagle Rock, Huntington Park, and Verbum Dei. Sorry that is just an easy schedule for them. Remind me why if Arcadia is so good why a school of like 2000 loses to a lower division team in Monrovia? And Arcadia got blown out last week.

Trojanator said:

FRED! Joshua Parrish' stats dont lie!!! THE kids a freak!!! 25 tackles is un-natural! O im sry did i forget to mention he's only 6'2 195 pounds!!??

BigA said:

What about Arcadia's kids? Mo hammed Issa is having a good season and Eric Willm as well. They had a sophomore anchoring their linebackers for a while who had 40 tackles through the first 5 games. They moved him to D-line for more speed I guess. Kevin Hess is a monster as well. All teams basically base their offensive scheme to block Hess. He is a playmaker on defense. Just ask Pasadena.

To be honest, sometimes I wonder about the quality of competition schools like La Salle play. La Canada, Monrovia, TC, Arcadia, and most of the Pacific League teams are pretty good.

LancerVideo said:

Rampride,
You must of had too much Halloween candy tonight. Yes, Joe Reasner of TC put a great hit on David Baier of La Salle, after David called for a fair catch, caught the ball, and then stood still, expecting to hand the ball to the ref. It was a dangerous hit, and all of us on the La Salle side think that the reason that Joe did not get thrown out to the game was the fact that David got up and was able to play the rest of the game.
You can't name a better defensive player than Andy Saldana, a great kid and a leader of the Lancers.

Neutral said:

No I do not, remind if that hit changed the outcome of them losing to La Salle?

rampride said:

joe reasner is the backbone of a extremly good linbacking unit at temple city and he is only a JUNIOR! if it wasnt for temple city having the linebacker of the year last season he would have been starting as a sophmore. he is big, fast, strong and not scarred to put his body on the line
plus everyone at la salle knows he can hit... remember the punt?

Trojanator said:

WOW! comon now theres no need to compare NFL legends to college wanna-be's like albert arnold. Andy Saldana has rebounded from a slow start and has led the D in its turn around, but Joshua Parrish is hard to overlook. He looks as though he is the only bright spot on a weak SP team so why cant opposing teams just put more blockers on him, or run the play away from him??? Because he is too good, 131 tackles which ranks 3rd in the Southern Section, and 25 tackles against TC speaks for itself.

bryan said:

i'm going to have to agree with anonymous there.

darryl carter is definately one of the "gems," so to speak, of the 2005 golden knight squard. he is a multipurpose athelete, that has a presence seen throughout the field, with 7 sacks and 51 tackles on the defensive side.

Lancer Double8s said:

Arnold looked JUST LIKE Singletary when Jimenez was blowing him up all night.

Anonymous said:

Darryl Carter of course. He does it all. He plays offense, defense, fullback. He is an all around player that can do it all. He is also a team captain. This should tell you something about the leadership skills that carry over on to the field.

p finchamp said:

I'll throw my 2 cents in for Galvan @ RH Prep because I watch him play and know him. It's a great start to his senior year. He has an interception in every game he's played, collected a fumble and forced a few, recorded a sack last week and averages over 5 tackles a game while assisting on most others. Mind you he's just doing this because we're not on offense at the moment....

Good luck getting many words outta this humble kid. He knows he's the leader on this team and he's inspiring the guys with his play. Teams that are tightly knit and truly close learn how to complement each other and Mike is a catayst.

Fella said:

Observantcat. I know you didn't compare an NFL linebacker and Superbowl champion to a high school football player. =]

Observantcat said:

Monrovias defense is on the DL....(for all of you that dont know that means Down Low) But look at it stats...the most points scored on the defense has been 22 by WC and two were due to turnovers in the first half. Albert Arnold is the real deal, he is like Mike Singletary of the Chicago Bears. If he gets his hands on you just go down....and his counterpart the smokin Somoan...lau is no joke either

Philly B. said:

albert arnold's performance against la canada and basically shutting peterson down at the line of scrimage. he is quick off the line and tackles well.

crazyqube said:

Alex Jimenez at La Salle has had 5 sacks in the last 3 games. Besides the fact that almost every offense runs away from him. That's respect! The 6'3'/240 lb DE stats usually don not show on any tally sheets, such as taking on double teams, lead blockers ,etc. That is what is making his play tops in the division. He and Andy Saldana deliver a double punch on D. Who I agree has the biggest heart of any player in the squad!

Arcadia's Eric Willm

John said:

A fella named Soumakian isn't doing too bad on that TC's D-Line.

Minuteman Fan said:

David Vanderlaan from Maranatha, consistently where he needs to be, 9 sacks, 3 fumble recoverys, 1 blocked kick.

Anonymous said:

Ray Arriola- middle linebacker at SF. He leads the team in tackles along with an interception and two fumble recoveries. SF has played the toughest schedule around this year and he has been solid for them.

How is that Jiminez kid at La Salle doing this year?

GoldenBear said:

Andy Saldana: he's come back on pure heart and emotion. He ended last season with a shattered ankle, steel plate, 3 screws and multiple surgeries, and now he's as strong as ever. For that i'd say he takes the cake for defensive players.
