BROADNAX OR PETERSON?

| | Comments (83) |

Who should win the Rio Hondo League MVP award?
The argument for Broadnax: in the Rio Hondo League championship game, he had his best performance of the season, rushing for 300 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-24 win over Monrovia. In his next biggest RHL game, the Rams defeated La Canada, 31-28, and Broadnax had 215 yards and three touchdowns to outduel Peterson, who finished with 202 yards. Even though Broadnax missed two games to due injury (nonleague games), he has rushed for 1,474 yards, averages 6.30 yards per game, and 210 yards a game. He also has 15 touchdowns.
The argument for Peterson: He leads the area in rushing with 1,964 yards and 22 touchdowns. He's averaging 9.72 yards per carry and 218 yards per game behind a less talented offensive line. Peterson also has had three incredible eye-opening performances. He rushed for a school record 345 yards and five touchdowns against Gabrielino. He broke his own school record by rushing for 354 yards and three touchdowns against South Pasadena. And last week, broke his own school record for the second time, rushing for 382 yards and six touchdowns against Blair in a game where he rested most of the second half.

Who in the world is doing the recruiting for SC's runing backs - now that I understand that Reed is a coverted wide receiver (which I should have realized given his size)and USC recruits him as as running back and they haven't had a running back pan out since the Washington, Bush, White class 4 years ago and they have completely wiffed on Peterson - i wonder if it isn't time to relpace the SC recruiter who recruits in this area or replace the SC running back coach. This is amazing for SC to miss a back like Peterson in their own backyard. I expect UCLA to make these kind of mistakes because they are brain dead over there but not SC. When LSU or Washington State (depending on where Peterson goes) come to town the next 4 years it isn't going to be pretty.

Prep Star said:

Desmond started his varsity year as a wide receiver? Wow, case closed.

Peterson gets my vote.

A receiver? That can't be right.

lujack said:

Will Fortner,
Thanks for proving my point - while Desmond might be a great athlete - apprantly he wasn't even the best running back on his own HS team as he was second string until the first string running back got hurt. Give it up -Desmond is not in the same league as Peterson as a running back. Reed wasn't even the best running back on his own HS team.

will fortner said:

Whomever tried to take-a-way from Desmond Reed's accomplishments as a Senior tailback, to say he ONLY ran for 1,100, should remember he did that in 5 games. He became the tailback due to an injury to the starting tailback getting hurt, he started the season at Wideout. If he would have played the entire season at tailback he certainly would have been over 2,000 yards rushing. Far and away the best in SG Valley history of the last 30 years.

Observantcat said:

I think he Graduated in 86 but I could be wrong and that makes 20 years.....After he got injured at SD state which he was Up for the Heisman...."I dont think Muir ever had a heisman candidate". Every school in the Country wanted him as a matter of Fact he ran all over John Muir while at Monrovia....I dont think a lot of the Players in the San Gabriel Valley get much respect from the Bigger Schools. Some of the exeptions have been a few running backs and a couple of great defensive personel.

lujack said:

Observantcat,
In this case, you didn't "observe" the statement clearly. The statement was the best back in the last 20 years. Hewitt did not play HS in the last 20 year time period - he was in the early 80's. Paul is the 11th or 12th all time leading rusher in SDSU history with about 2,000 yards. If he was so incredible with a big time HS football program like Muir and an extremely well respected coach with a history of getting players to the Big major D1 conferences, why did Hewitt only end up at SDSU - when he was in the Pac 8's backyard? Just asking and more curious than anything.

Observantcat said:

BigM, and all of the Monrovia Fans.......Including myself.

If you really want to get technical about the best back that made it out of the San Gabriel Valley who lived up to his stats in college it's by Far (PAUL HEWWIT)...when he left Monrovia High he went straight to San Diego State and started for two seasons in front of WHO? That's right MARSHALL FAULK. Hewitt was the best pure running back that I have ever seen play High School football. He was a combo of Marc Tyler and Lavelle Peterson in one. If you check him out maybe you will remember that Bishop Amat was on the top of the World like Oaks Christian is now and no one thought that Monrovia had a chance...This kid had over 300 yards that game and would have had more had they not gone into the Bishop Amat Referee mode. Monrovia Won that game by 35 points. Look him up and then tell me who you think could match this Kid. That was the year Monrovia lost in the Semi-Finals to Canyon Country by 1 point in the Semi-Finals...and Canyon Country went on to win CIF by 40 points.

lujck said:

Stang Fan,
All great backs and better still 2 of the 3 are Trojans - all belong in the discussion of great backs in the area - but they are not this kid - none were the #1 back in total yards in Cal and #3, if you take out small schools, in the nation. Although Saladin did put up some impressive numbers. Those backs you mentioned all did it with Great and Dominating Muir teams and great lines and fantastic other skill position players. This kid is doing it with the smallest line in the league - a team that was just above .500 - Those backs all did it with league champs. If Peterson went to Muir he would hold every rushing record at the school. Peterson averages more yards per game and carry than all of them. He is hit on almost every play behind the line. None of the three were as big or punishing as Peterson. All are excellent though.

Stang Fan said:

Best back in the last 20 years? No mention of Ricky Ervins, Saladin McCullough, Sultan McCullough and a host of other backs out of Muir, any of which would have done just as well if not better than Peterson if they had a chance to play against the teams LC plays.

Peterson is a great back with a great future, and I wish him the best. But the best back in the SGV the last 20 years he is not.

BigMLover said:

"Harris did it with one of the best teams of all time over a 3 year period in the SGV"

I agree with that...

lujack said:

BigMLover,
Agree the that the arguement needs to include Harris. Harris was a great HS back - the second best in the last 20 years. Lavelle averages more yards per game and per carry than Harris - and if LC goes 2 deep into the playoff and he averages 75% of his per game average he will break Harris' total rushing yards in a season record with 2 fewer games. But the critical point of comparision is that Harris did it with one of the best teams of all time over a 3 year period in the SGV - Monrovia didn't lose a game in league over that 3 year period and i think were 33 -5 for that 3 year period and were huge Harris' senior year. When Harris was there they had the best offensive line - especially Harris' senior year and other threats at the skilled positions - Lavelle's O line is the smallest in the league and team was .500 in league until the last week and LC barely made the playoffs.

Your argument over the best back in the last 20 years needs to include Akil Harris... his career hs numbers (over 5000 yds rushing) may obscure his back-to-back trips to the D-IX title game... and he followed it up with a solid contribution at UCLA.

Go Cats!

Desomond is a great all around athlete - and I am a big SC fan and btw a Reed fan. But I said Lavelle is the best RUNNING BACK to come out of the area - not best athelete - he may be that too. But give me a break - Reed is nowhere near the running back that Peterson is. He could never take the pounding Lavelle does. I think Reed had 1,100 yards rushing on a hugely talanted team. Lavelle has more than twice that on a significantly less than talent team that has only one weapon. If Lavalle had the hype machine that Reed had he would have more accolades than Reed had. Lavelle is 3rd in the state - so he is really first- in rushing behind two very small school RBs up North and way ahead of Mark Tyler and he is 7th in the Nation again with many small HS backs in front of him. Reed wasn't even in the top 100 (maybe 200 -I can only find the top 100 for that year)- In Lavelle's top 3 games he had as many yards as Reed had all season and Reed's wooping 1,100 yards includes the playoffs, which Lavelle's doesn't and Lavelle missed basically one entire game this year. Also unlike Reed opponents wont kick or punt to Lavelle. He has return almost 50 % of those kicked to him. If you want to have a debate about the best athelete to come out of the area than we can compare Lavelle and Reed - if you want to discuus the best back to come out of the area in the last 20 years - it is not debatable.

Anonymous,
Thank you for making my argument - TC has a very tough front 7 (the best in the league) completely geared to stopping one guy - Peterson. Against which Peterson averaged 7.2 yards a carry for a total of 202 almost the same total yards as Dwight had (215) on 16 fewer carries, which Dwight had against the smallest defensive line in the conference (LC). Had Peterson had 16 more carries using his average against TC he would have had 115 more yards for a total of 317 vs. Dwight's 215 - had he really had 16 more carries it actually would have been even more because Peterson gets stronger as he wears defensives down. If Lavellle played for TC or the TC coach (who knows how to use unique talents like Dwight)Lavelle would have over 3,000 yards already. Saying Dwight is Bush and Lavelle is White is absurd unless White averaged 50% more yards a carry than Bush (which of course he didn't - it was the reverse) -like Lavelle's 50% HIGHER rushing average per carry (on substantially more carries no less) to Dwight. It is really nonsense to even compare the two. Peterson is the best back from this area in the last 20 years. It is a shame it has taken this long for this area to get it - and appearently some still don't based on the comments in this blog.

I also agree with high school fan - the Pasadena Star News has great local sports coverage - great on-line coverage of the Poly - Rio game last night.

Peterson has the numbers. But who has the wins and NUMBERS. Who had their best game when they needed it the most? Who was more valuable? The answer is Broadnax. I saw both play against each other and both are phenomenal. If Lavelle Peterson is Lendale Whie and Dwight Broadnax is Reggie Bush who would you rather have? Reggie Bush or Lendale White?

Anonymous said:

the argument about Peterson and Braodnax for the MVP is great! And as for my opinion Peterson gets the nod. But not to take anything away from the two standout RBs but....

-QB, San Marino QB gets this as far as stats go. He lead his team to a pretty good season and he leads the league in passing yrds.

-DL Albert Anrond from Monrovia. he has shown consitant play throughout the season and he should be rewarded.

-Sean Kelly gets it for speacial teams hands down.

-OL. I would have to give this to the whole Line of TC. Those boys were pushing people around and opening wholes for Braodnax all season long.

-As for the WR core Im not to sure who gets this one. ??

-LB I say Parish from So Pas. with over 150 tackles.

-Although Peterson gets the MVP over Broadnax, he shouldnt come away empty handed. Its either he shares the MVP title with Peterson or he gets the Offensive player of the Year award!

Peterson once again demonstrated his value to his football team last night. To judge who may be the better candidate for MVP by virtue of what team advances farther into the playoffs is farsical. How about being realistic and taking each player away from their perspective teams and guess their records. I would venture to say that La Canada would fall into the Hoover/Glendale/Blair category. Broadnax is certainly due his fair share of accolades, but, Peterson still has my vote.

Prep Star said:

Wow. Over 100 yards in the first quarter against Blair. Lavelle had 254 yards in the first quarter againsst Blair.

Leave your name so we can address such genius by person.

Anonymous said:

lujack,

dwight had over 100 yards in one quarter last night. And just for the record, peterson had plenty of first half carries against TC he just didnt get many yards because the front 7 actually stopped him... and why dont we save the MVP talk until we see who takes their team farther in the playoffs.

lujack said:

Make that 2 hits heard at the Rose Bowl - one on the LC interception and one on the onside kick - I think Peterson had over 200 yards in the second half with his team down and needing a win to get into the playoffs - that is clutch and an MVP performance - How many yards and TDs did Dwight get last night - I bet it was not 278 yards and 5 TDs like Lavelle.

Prep Star said:

The Pasadena Star News has it written wrong in the Friday Sports Section. Lavelle Peterson for La Canada had (5) five touchdowns against San Marino not 4. He had 4 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdowns. Please correct that number in your mind next week when this paper overooks Lavelle again for AOTW.

The Queen said:

Just when I start to think you guys are getting the MVP thing you shock me. Lavelle had 268 yards rushing tonight against San Marino along with 5 touchdowns. One catch for 12 yards and a touchdown.

He also had a hit he made at LaCanada that stopped the Muir vs. Pasadena game at the Rose Bowl do to noise.

Be well.

Look this is not about who is the better back, it is who is the most valuable player and I would say the Broad is because of his performance against Monrovia. Lavelle had a chance against Monrovia and didn't do much, and Broad had 300 yards and single handedly won the game for them. Give it to Broadenuex.

QUEEN,
Peterson had a chance but when its the third quarter and your team is getting shut out like they're were in the first game of league. That was the smartest thing to do for the head coach at la canada. Think about this way sweetheart, its the first game of league and there is four more games to be played, if he would of played it would of been for a loss cause and he could of got injured. But Peterson is the league's MVP by far. I wasnt sure how long he would last because la canada can not pass the ball for anything so everyone knows what they're going to do but even then peterson tears defenses to shreds and dont leave him one on one with a defensive back its over. Broadnax is blessed with a quarterback that can put in the air somewhat accurately. So if teams focus on broadnax then Saxon makes them pay. If you focus on peterson then peterson says ok I'll just get 300 yds on ya hands down how can you not give him his due. If there is some sort of co-mvp, i'll be mad because in way that would be a slap in the face of peterson carrying his team this season

BigMLover said:

La Canada did lose games when Peterson was on the field. That is very observant Smoothy. Look at the stats and see how many carries the genius coach gave him. LC fell behind TC because Lavelle wasn't given the ball. Second half was the real story of the TC game. If Peterson is given the ball 35 times a game, plays defense the whole game and is the returner, LC is league champs. Every team keys on Lavelle. Don't think the same can be said with the other candidates.

Anonymous said:

Just to weigh in. Petersen.

J-Smooth said:

Are you kidding me? Can you even count rushing yards/stats vs. Gabrielino and/or Blair? Peterson is a great back, but LC has lost several games with Peterson on the field. TC lost the game in which Broadnax was not on the field. Who's more valuable to their respective teams and the league? Answer: Broadnax!

Prep Star said:

Reed is a great all around athlete - one of the best from the area ever - but Dwight is just as good a pure running back. And Lavelle is in another league all together.

The Queen said:

With all your comments how well Brodnax did against Monrovia, you must all know, Lavelle Peterson never played in the fourth quarter against Monrovia. He got all his yards in the first three quarter against Monrovia. If he was given half the chance Broadnex received from his coaches, Lavelle would have gotten 300 yards too. I feel Broadnax is a very talented back, but he is no Peterson.
Hands down MVP goes to Peterson

john heurkins said:

Comparisons are always difficult. There are arguments for a few different players but Peterson gets my vote. As much as he contributes to his team, he could do even more if the coach would allow it. There are 2 games for sure that should have been victories. Peterson gets his yards with an inexperienced (or poorly coached) line. Lavelle takes it all in stride and just keeps playing hard. Both are good backs and nothing against Broadnax, but, Peterson is the pick. BigM Lover and Fred, the steaks are aging nicely over at Ruth Chris.

To know Peterson and the adversity he has overcome, not only physically, but with family hardships and working hard in the classroom has been a true blessing and rewarding for us as fans. Lavelle, it doesn't matter if you win or lose the MVP award, you have grown to become and outstanding rep for you high school and community. HE is that team. I agree w/ Fred that Broadnax preformance against Monrovia was clutch, so it's makes it an even more harder decision. Co-MVP's again this year most likely.

Dwight is a fine back - slightly better than Willie, who is also great, in my view - and in any other year the MVP -but to even compare him to Lavelle is not a realistic discussion and really not fair to Dwight - Lavelle Peterson is a freak of nature - the best back to come out of the San Gaberial Valley in the last 20 years - maybe ever - next to Mark Tyler the best back in CA - although i would like to see Lavelle Peterson run behind a D1 line with the best HS QB in the nation like Tyler - Lavelle actually has substantally more yards than Tyler and the same number of TDs and both play in the same CIF Division - Head to head with Dwight is not even a contest- Lavelle averaged 55% MORE yards per carry (THAT IS 3.42 YARDS MORE PER CARRY) than Dwight - behind a much weaker line (the smallest line in the league), with limited other offensive weapons (opponents gear all their defensive efforts to stopping Lavelle), playing the same teams as Dwight, except Lavelle did it against a much tougher non - conference schedule and Lavelle had to go up against Temple City's defense (league champs) and Dwight had to go against La Canada's defense (a team that must win this week just to get into the playoffs) and he had much more carries - He would tear up the Pacific league - he ran for 350 yards against a Pacific league team and had 5 touchdowns. Plus, Lavelle is averaging 290 yards all purposes per game. In the game that Peterson was "outdueld" 215 to 202 yards - Dwight had 44 caries - 16 MORE CARRIES than Lavelle. Lavelle average 7.2 yards per carry vs. Dwights 4.8 in that game -again Lavelle was playing against a much tougher defense. It would be nice if Lavelle actually got some of the respect that a local who works that hard with that much talent deserves on national level. He is going to make the SC and UCLA pay big time for passing on him when he visits from Washington, unless he ends up going to LSU as is the latest rumor.

BTW, I agree with Jim M. Fred does a great job covering the local sports scene. The Pasadena Star News is the only paper in LA worth reading.

Peterson is a Man amongst Young Men!! He started out as a Gladiator and finished his High School Career Shattering Records that may not be broken again!! Why because he carried the Ball inside many a times?? He only played on probably 65 % of most gamesi f that!! He will be a True College Supestar given the right Offense!! If he had the Real chance he would have probably had over 30 TD's this year and would have definitley Rushed for over 2500 yDs. Lavelle is in my opinion one of the Best backs to ever play in L.A> Just never really had the complee chance to Prove that. He is Blessed with a Great Family the Mulligans who made him part of thier's. He found ways to stay out of trouble and focus on Perfection. Even though he is not thier yetr, he is DArn close!!! Lavelle knows that God has given him an Opportunity and he has taken Full advantage of that!

Good Luck Lvelle!!!

I am a TC lineman on both sides of the ball and I will tell you, Peterson is one big ass truck. Please excuse my french, but there is no way he will not be a formidable D1 back. And, not to say anything at all bad about Dwight, but if Peterson were at TC, he would be a 3000 yard rusher. Granted Dwight missed two games, but the speed of Lavelle and the Power he runs with would be unstoppable with as great an o-line as TCs.

I played against LaVelle once, when we were both freshmen. He was unstoppable then and by the looks of it is unstoppable now. His play reminds me of LenDale White.

Peterson for MVP.

I am not sure that Peterson is running in a system where they don't block Linebackers. There were numerous times in our game where some of the LB’s were blocked. It isn’t like TC where their line is going to manhandle good/strong DL/LB’s. With Peterson, all they have to do is get on defenders and Peterson gets into the secondary where he is virtually never tackled 1v1. There is no denying that his numbers on maxpreps suggest that the offense faced some growing pains (first game, 82; Second game 29).

However, I would argue that the scheme is more suited to his abilities as a RB. Spread (Zone) offenses, which allow RB’s to cut (see Michigan, Minnesota, or Denver), allows good RB’s to be truly great. Allowing Peterson to make decisions about the hole to run through, to read the hips of LB’s, and make a guy slow play a cutback, is what allows Peterson to gash defenses.

The problems for LC occur when their spread offense faces a tight 4-3 determined to force the pass (like Monrovia…a press cover 0; a great game plan). In that game, the defense was going to force the Spartans to throw (which they couldn’t do: 1-9-3 for 11 yards). Until recently (like TC; 11-18 for 123 yards), the Spartans weren't able to throw the ball consistently…if at all. When you have 5 blockers and 7 defenders...someone is going to be unblocked (which explains why Peterson didn’t run “as wild against Monrovia). In that situation the offense must pass. That is the nature of the offense. Imagine if Peterson played with Potts in the LC offense and they were able to throw the ball consistently and forced teams to respect it. That would be trouble.

Anyway, all this to say Lavelle is the best RB in the RHL. Even when guys are unblocked, he still gets his yards (Monrovia 27-192). Broadnax seems unable to hit the big plays unless the blocking is great (SP: 41 for 175).

Peterson can hit the big play every time he touches the ball! If you forget those first two games, Peterson has 1850 yards and 22 rushing TD’s in 7 games. That is ridiculous! I think Broadnax is definitely the second best back in the league. I also understand that Broadnax is on the best team with the best OL. I think you could put Parrish or Davis behind them and you would see similar numbers. Depending on how you understand the award, you could go either way (Broadnax/Peterson); however, there is no doubt that the best player in the RHL is Peterson.

LaVelle Peterson is as awesome off the field as he is on. He's shown patience, dedication and leadership. He is definitely MVP material.

JustAThought said:

It's hard to say who deserves this award more. I would say Peterson, just because he has been healthier than Broadnax throughout the year. But like the others said above, you can't go wrong either way.

I would have to DISAGREE with what Philly B. said. I think if Dwight was healthy for the season, he would be just as good as Reed was. Dwight played RB, returned all the kicks, and was a shut-down corner. He locked up Zion Babb, and the only reason Babb grabbed a TD was because Broadnax was not guarding him in that alignment. But no one will know because of that injury.

Hats off to both Broadnax & Peterson.

Jim M. said:

I'm not sure Dwight Broadnax would do real well running for an Offense that runs plays where the offensive line never gets on the backers. Lavelle has to go against linebackers that go untouched all game and 90% of the time he gets hit at the line of scrimmage. The blocking for LC is very hard to understand. Let the best defensive players go untouched and take their best shot at your running back all game long.

It's not easy to do what Lavelle does, but he continues to play with his heart and love of the game and never and I mean never complains.

He was a stud when he was a freshman and he is a stud now. No question this award goes to Lavelle. However this question may be better answered by those of you who had to actually tackle Lavelle. That's who I would really like to hear from.

Good luck to all the teams in the Rio Hondo League and thank you all for an awesome year of football and good luck in the playoffs.

Fred, you're a stud and thank you for all you do for the locals. I for one can't wait for my Pasadena Star News in the a.m.

Broadnax! hes the 0ne!

Observantcat said:

Fred, You make the point that Broadnax comes up big in the big games....Thats because he has the BIG line to go with his Big Games. If you look at it like that, you should give real credit where credit is due. Peterson plays both sides of the Ball as well as Broadnax. Both defensively and offensively
He's better on both sides.

Anony Mouse (just so I'm not anonymous) said:

Both the backs have had excellent seasons, but Peterson has been more of a weapon in the sense that Monrovia has more of a total, complete attack besides Broadnax. Lame reasoning, I know...

FredJ said:

If I had a vote at the RHL meeting, I would lean toward Broadnax, simply because he has the greatest impact in the most important games. To rush for 300 yards against Monrovia in a title game is bigger than the 300 plus performances Peterson had against South Pas and Blair. Plus, Broadnax outdueled Peterson head-to-head. Now, on pure talent, you pick Peterson. He's going to have a better career at the next level.
But your're right BigM, you can't go wrong either way.
The league meetings are always interesting though. I thought last year Sushi Tsai should have been the outright MVP for his huge game against La Canada for the league title, and he led the league in rushing. But the league voted a co-mvp with La Canada's David Hopkins and Tsai.

Peterson gets the nod...

He didn't hurt us as much as Broadnax... but what he's done with what he has is remarkable.

Fred... You can't go wrong with either pick... and if Potts had played in the Blair game, his numbers would automatically include him in this discussion.

Anonymous said:

I say Peterson.. hes had to work harder for his yards and if you put him behing the line of TC then Peterson gets 3000 easily!

Fred-

What are the other awards for the league and who shuld they go to??

hsfbfan said:

Stang Thang, hey give credit where credit is due. Don't steal the spotlight from Petersen and Broadnax.

Don't be a Kanye West.

hsfbfan said:

Stang thang,

Fact of the matter is that Youngblood has been hurt and hasn't proven much this season. It's football live with it. Muir's o-line isn't as good as last year. Well, get better and don't make excuses.

What if arcadia had a healthy Kris Robison, who sat out 4 games...or what if Arcadia had James Davis at RB...

What if Monrovia had a healthy Eric Brooks...

See, we can go on for ever.
It is what it is.

Philly B. said:

stang thing, the reason why youngblood was not included in the question was because this id for the Rio Hondo League MVP. Not the pacific league MVP. trust no one is dissing ur running back at muir but muir isnt in this topic because muir not in our league. you should take time to read the whole question before you think someone is not showing love to muir because thats not the case at least i dont think so.

its a stang thang said:

4. u need to take to account the level of competition muir plays against ..i mean u are comparing a schedule that has blair, san marino, south pasadena or gabrelino to muirs'.. man i dont know. another thing.. every1 keeps sayin how good that burroughs defense is.. i mean..correct me if am wrong but ididnt willie run for a buck+ in the first half of that game b4 he hurt his neck?

its a stang thang said:

2) compare the carries willie gets to levelle or broadnax..willie get an average of 11 carrries and guess how many yrds he averages per game ...around 170..now levelle and broadnax get 25-30 carries. if thats not enough for u..he gets these yards in first halfs.

3)did anyone know how many yards willie got in the oaks christian game?? he had around 18 carries for 100+..and most of which were in the first half so dont try that "he got it after the starters for OC defense were out." am jus sayin u guys need to think about him too.

its a stang thang said:

why isnt willie youngblood in this topic..in my opinion hes a better back compared to the two. and why u ask?
1) his offensive line is weak. if u have been to a muir game u'll see that willie gets yards the hard way..he uses his speed and power to get by. he doesnt have an oline like tc's and monrovia's. if he had decent blockers..he have a 3000 yrd season.

Philly B i'm wid ya.

Philly B. said:

im gonna give it to peterson as well. i give props to broadnax because he was getting alot of yards in the pre-league before he got injured. But I feel that peterson does a whole lot more for his team. he plays linebacker and all the return duties plus he's a punter as well. just look at the stats and that should tell you right there. He doesnt have the big offensive line of temple city but still produces with what he has.
p.s. observantcat broadnax is not better than desmond reed by far. I mean desmond was an all-purpose back plus he was in a way a shut-down corner. it was hard for any opponents leading receiver to catch anything with desmond on the coverage. honestly i would slightly compare peterson to reed just because of what he does for the team and what reed did for T.C.

Observantcat said:

I like Peterson. On a fair day with the same line I will take Peterson to the finish. Although Broadnax has the heart of a lion, without his bears he would be just another running Back. If he were on La Canada he would not even be considered for this honor. So Hats off to a guy that has to pull the full weight of his team. Ps....I think that Broadnax is better than Desmond Reed.
