It's time to play DUARTE FOOTBALL. Bring on La Canada. We can take them.

Philly B. said:

I strongly agree with you crazyqube. The playoffs is a different season and its all about one game at a time. good luck to all sgv teams in the playoffs. St. francis and arcadia i believe have the toughest games this friday so good luck to them as well. Colton and Culver city are no joke

crazyqube said:

Philly B, we appreciate the well wishes. Let's keep the championship home, I agree with you on this.
Good luck to all the teams in the SGV! This year we have seen some great games and rivalries develop. The playoffs is the stuff dreams are made of. There is nothing more exciting for a high school football player than to be in the play offs and be playing after Thanksgiving. It is an experience remembered for a life time.
A Championship Ring is something above all else in the sport and forever cherished. The playoffs are a brand new season and you have the opportunity to continue to play and WIN! Who you lost to or who you beat in the regular seson is not important any more. What is important is concentrating on beating the team in front of you and taking it one game at a time.
Only the Strong Survive!

Philly B. said:

Good luck to the la salle football team. No one wants to see the rematch in the second round more than me. And i dont wanna see any team from up north go far in the playoffs. I want it to be decided in the area.

crazyqube said:

Burbank, I agree with you. Fillmore has a potent run offense, so does LS. Fillmore is also good on defense they have a couple of big boys that can play. It will be a fun gamne to watch! It could be another LS-Verb type of showdown.

crazyqube said:

Any Lancer fan that thinks Friday night is a given victory for La Salle, better get off of that cloud. Fillmore will come to Pasadena ready to play. Our boys at LS will have to be prepared to play tough and at their top level. From the looks of practice Gallagher is getting them ready to do so. I do not care about anyhting else but sending Fillmore on a long and lonely ride home on Friday night! It's a brand new season starting today, let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!

Wow! I was at the game and I saw Phillip Marry # 24 and his brother Wayne “Fashion walk over to a PHS player to taut him for losing the game. Muir’s entire sideline of players come running over to the PHS side to start trouble. Wow out of all the players someone would want to hit Phillip M. This must be a good thing for those that also have been pushing behind the scenes to get the PHS coach “FRIED. Yes I can’t wait until the investigation comes Monday. Then the vindictive adults will let PHS continue to build their football program with out them butting their noses in and move on now that their child is senior. Talk about controlling the field events MUIR staff and coaches let the team run over to PHS’s side of the field.
Even the MUIR cheerleaders had to be pushed away by PHS principle Dr. Evans. I hope the film crew got that on tape. One person can try to destroy another reputation simply because thing didn’t go there way. Can’t wait until Monday!

La canada vs. Duarte got to be the game of the week. I dont see another big match-up in the first round

FredJ said:

Fellow bloggers, I'll start a thread next week asking your help on selecting the Star-News All-Area first team. It's a list of 24 players (half offense, half defense, kicker, punter). And of course, the Star-News player of the year.

Fred- you got Pasadena vs Hemet tomorrow in volleyball. I hope it's front page.

Friday's game of the week, La Canada at Duarte.
Proposed game of the week in quarterfinals: La Salle at Monrovia (let's all hope it happens).

I'd bet that the wildest and most intense game will be Fillmore v La Salle.

burbanksports said:

I remember the good old days when Duarte and Bell Gardens were in the RHL. Nobody even heard of Monrovia back then.

Observantcat said:

Fred:

Game of the Week: Duarte vs. Peterson and crew. Duarte would love to get a chance to prove that they can compete in the Rio Hondo league. This will certainly get the attention of the rest of the Valley if they Win.

Observantfan said:

Culver City is very beatable. If you have a good pass rush and a good set of defensive backs, you will fare well with Culver City, They have a very weak defense. With St. Francis playing their kind of football, they should win this game without a problem. They have a very good QB thats only a Jr. But he can be handled with some pressure.

Philly B. said:

I like these pairings this year in the playoffs. I dont see anyone really dominating this division. For duarte this will be their biggest test yet. If they want to be taken seriously in the playoffs then they have to shut down peterson like monrovia did in the first league game. Monrovia was the only team to shut down peterson for no touchdowns, which is not the easiest thing to do. I dont see monrovia struggling against azuza, that being assuming we do get past them i hope and pray that monrovia doesnt look past la salle and keep thinking about 52-19. Because this team is one of the hottest teams in the division and we have to play them as if we havent played them before and if we do that then we should be good to go on to the semi finals

that guy you know said:

I'd say La Canada at Duarte is the game of the week.

Minuteman Fan said:

Go Minutemen! - The game of the week is a hard one to call - TC should have an easy time, as should Monrovia - maybe RHP or La Salle? I would have to go with Maranatha as the "Saturday game of the week" for obvious reasons - good luck to everyone in "our valley" it should be a great ride.

FredJ said:

Any thoughts on what should be friday's game of the week?

Tom S said:

Finchamp: Yes, I like your phrase “jewel of the valley and on the money to describe the Maranatha campus. Another one that someone used the other day, I think it was Lance Double 8s, “16 are talkin and 8 will be walkin is perfect with what’s going on here now. Good luck to all of the local teams as we enter the playoffs.
Oh and another thing
GO MINUTEMEN !!!!!!!!!

Opening Rd:
Temple City over Sierra Vista
Verbum Dei over L.A. Baptist
La Canada over Duarte
Santa Clara over Paraclete
Village Christian over Mary Star
Workman over Bishop Diego
La Salle over Fillore
Monrovia over Azusa
Quarters:
TC over Verbum Dei
LC over Santa Clara
Village Christian over Workman
Monrovia over La Salle
Semis:
TC over LC
Monrovia over La Salle
Finals:
TC over Monrovia

The new system is great, pretty much everything is local and no team is extremely dominating. There isn't a Lompoc that you can definatively say is going to run away with the title. Good luck teams.

CIF--
Home field a big plus but first game under the lights sorta makes it the same deal for Fillmore. I like La Salle's chances in the playoffs--the hottest team in the area.

Minuteman and Tom S--

I see you guys took a liking to my original coining of "jewel of the valley." Great situation for Maranatha. I don't think Sage Hill is that tough and I'll bet they don't play many Saturday games. After Delahooke kicks the first ball out of the end zone on the opening kickoff Maranatha stops 'em cold and collects a poor punt on their own 45...and the rest is up to experience.

Knox--

Nice posts after the RHP/Poly game--good to hear the perspective of a recent grad. I don't know if you can call the Aquinas match-up an upset if RH Prep wins. They have a big back averaging something like 190 yards a game but that's all that sticks out from stats with the exception that RH Prep defeated a couple of common opponents by wider margins than Aquinas did--but we don't put too much stock in that.

The loss to Poly provides even more impetus for the Kares to play well. It is not uncommon for teams to play well after an unexpected loss the week before.

crazyqube said:

Hold on "worst nightmare", Verbum Dei is no slouch at all, they have Akeem Ayers who is committed to UCLA, Reggie Dunn has an offer from Oregon, and Curtis Wilson has two offers from Nevada and San Jose St. They are VERY talented, and I expect them to make alot of noise in the playoffs.

ur worst knightmare said:

Fred, you gotta add Arroyo at La Habra to the Southeast list! I know its a tough draw, but so is rosemead at Saddleback, right? Good luck MVL. GO KNIGHTS GO!

It is a crime that the Rio Hondo League and Montview League are in the same division> C'mon Temple City vs. Sierra Vista? I mean, besides the RHL and Duarte and La Salle, every team seems like a cup-cake. Well, CIF really screwed-up in this one.

CIF said:

What about if Fillmore can stop Bury, or Baier, or Kohorst, or Jimenez, or Saldana from making big plays. You have to remember that La Salle has already upset the number 1 team in their division and have won 5 straight. Fillmore may be a good team but someone has to give La Salle credit for coming back and not giving up, cuz all I hear about on this blog is that Monrovia and TC are going to roll through the division untouched.

Anonymous said:

CIF-
If La Salle can stop Halcon and Avila from big plays, then La Salle can win. Fillmore is similiar to Eagle Rock.

This central V is no joke. Some of these teams played teams like Upland, Rancho Cacumonga, Redlands East Valley and Kasier.

Look at Colton's roster. They lost Allen Bradford and Sharee Wright, but they are still very loaded.

Rancho Verde and Cajon will make some noise in the Central V.

Oh boy... Pacific League

Burbank sports did you factor in that it will be La Salle's first ever game under the lights at home? The Lancers will come out firing and beat up on Fillmore all night. Since apparently no one in this state believes in La Salle to do anything I am not suprised that the PASADENAstar news and burbanksports goes with Monrovia. Just call it the MONROVIAstar news because that is all they talk about.

burbanksports said:

the games are played friday nights. knowbody in this site has seen duarte except for the very first game against monrovia. alot of thing has changed. the offence and the defence. cant wait to play peterson. not lc, peterson!

Steve said:

To all of the St. Francis Golden Knights. You guys still have the ability to make a run in the CIF Playoffs. You just have to believe.

Seniors, don't make this your last football game. You have to play every play like it's your last. I believe, offensively, Collis can lead this team to victory. Defensively, Daryl Carter will play like a mad man and get his defense motivated.

You can do it Golden Knights!! You just have to want it more.

Patrick said:

Best of luck to the Golden Knights this Friday at Culver City. It's going to be a tough game for SF to win, especially with the offense Culver City has.

The scoreboard operator will be busy that night for sure.

Go Golden Knights!

FredJ said:

yeah, Campa's our guy, but we have three teams in semifinals on Tuesday all with good chances of winning...Pasadena, Flintridge Sacred Heart and Westridge....

FredJ said:

Trojanator, we'll see what happens. I'm convinced more than ever that the Rams will reach the finals.
I'm really hoping for a second round La Salle-Monrovia game. I'm going with the 'Cats, but won't be surprised if La Salle beats them. But La Salle should not overlook Fillmore, they were No. 2 before losing on Friday.
I know Falcon Fan has been talking about Duarte, but they won't be able to stop Peterson. I also like La Canada because they already won a second round coin flip should they play Santa Clara (9-1).

Minuteman Fan said:

I thought Campa covered Volleyball???

ec-falcon said:

i glad duarte is the underdog against lc, cuz we have a receiver over there better then any in rhl. we will have to wait until friday ill be on the duarte side.

I hope to be there. But we might have a team or two in the CIF girls volleyball finals.

Minuteman Fan said:

Fred - we would love to have you - hope you can make it

Thanks Minuteman Fan and Fred. Great, we get Sage Hill on our home field, the jewel of the valley, for a Saturday afternoon game. Doesn't get better than that. Fred, you coming over to see the game?

Duarte is a Little Monrovia and if you dont come to play they will run all over the field. Peterson will become La Canada's secret weapon. Duarte has not challenged a running back of this caliber in recent year.

Tom S said:

Hey Fred: Any word on when and where the Maranatha - Sage Hill game will be played? Since we don't have lights yet, 7:30 Fri night doesn't work. Either a Fri afternoon game, 7:30 at a neutral field, PCC maybe, or Sat on our field. Can you find out? Both Minuteman Fan and I can't wait to find out
Thanks

I'm not being a homer. Take it game by game, it makes sense. The RHL is a notch above everyone else. Just watch how it all unfolds.

Temple City (ez win) v Verbum Dei (squeaker)

La Canada (Peterson) v Santa Clara

Village Christian v Bishop Diego

La Salle v Monrovia (ez win)

New York said:

I have to say that having so many area teams involved within the Mid-Valley makes this a very interesting playoff division. I'm not a big fan of the lack of geographic coverage, but on the other hand it could be a great way to create as well as strengthen local rivalries.

There are teams seeking redemption: La Salle would love to knock off Monrovia, and Monrovia would love to knock of Temple City. And Temple City, of course, would love to beat La Salle and mitigate their sole loss. Before we get to see an all West SGV title game, though, the above mentioned teams need to take care of business. Some of these schools have been whooped by Oaks Christian the past couple years and are probably chomping at the bit to make a playoff run without having to contend with that giant.

New York said:

Fred,
All three RHL teams going to the semis and then an RHL rematch in the finals? Are you just being a homer or do you really like that layout?

FredJ said:

My Mid-Valley predictions

FINALS

i know that Cluver City has been fairly decent in past years. The last I have heard from them was when they were in the div. X CIF finals and ever since they moved to Div. 3 I havent heard alot about thier success. But i do know that they always have good and talented athletes in that program.

It should be a good game!

It is very odd.
I've been always predicting TC will play SV the whole past week, I'm looking forward to this one the most.

So are they any good or are they overrated?

New York said:

Sf Fan,

Culver City was in Division 10 the past couple years. They are coached by Salter. His previous assignment was Bishop Amat during the mid and late 1990's.

It's odd that every RHL team is matched against a Montview team. Usually TC is the only one that gets a Montview draw.
