Mid-Valley and Southeast

Mid-Valley
Top-ranked Temple City (9-1) shouldn't have much of a problem with Sierra Vista (3-7) in the first round, but it gets interesting after that. Verbum Dei (6-4) could be next for the Rams if they defeat L.A. Baptist. Either way, it's a shaky second round game for the Rams.
Monrovia (8-2) also should have an easy time with Azusa (5-5) to open the playoffs, but who are they pulling for in the other game. Would you want to face La Salle (5-5) again? At least it would be at home. Or, would the 'Cats prefer to go on the road and play Fillmore, a team that was recently ranked No. 2 before losing their league finale? Either way, another scary second round game. I'm hoping it's Monrovia-La Salle. It would be much closer the second time around.
La Canada (6-4) gets Montview League champ Duarte (8-2). Can the Falcons handle a good running back. They're going to have to if they have any hopes of stopping Lavelle Peterson. The Spartans, like I've said from day one, are my sleeper. Peterson is the best player in the division, so it will be interesting to see how heavy coach Rich Wheeler leans on him.

Southeast
Does Rosemead, Alhambra and Arroyo have a chance of reaching the second round in a difficult division that includes Troy, Westminster, La Habra and Santa Fe.
Alhambra (6-3-1) probably has the best shot. They were impressive beating Schurr to earn a co-Almont League title in the finale, and they face an Orange team in a rebuilding year, and one that lost to Rosemead earlier in the season.
Rosemead (5-5) will have their hands full against Saddleback, a 6-4 team from the Golden West League. Remember what happened last year. Rosemead entered the playoffs with an undefeated record, and got bounced in the first round by La Serna.
Arroyo (5-5) doesn't figure to have much of a chance against La Habra (8-2), the No. 4 seed from the Freeway League, the most dominant league in the division. The Freeway league champion, Troy, is the top-seed in the Southeast.

Well put observantcat. Some want to be blind to the obvious. But I feel lucky that I went to such a diverse school as monrovia. I never felt as the token ethnic person their. Of course the main percentile is hispanic, But out of all the schools in the area i feel that monrovia is the most diverse of them all. Coming from that school you become very tolerant and diverse yourself, but thank you observantcat for putting that on info. on blast because some people just need to know

Observantcat said:

New York

That's what makes Monrovia one of the Great teams in the SGV. The school is Color Blind. I think that the combination of the different backgrounds that make up our teams says a lot. There was a time in the City of Monrovia that this was not the case. I used to get chased home at night and called the N word. But once I got into High School I realized that none of that mattered to me. I shared great experiences throught my high school days realizing that there is going to be predijuice no matter where you go or what you do. The inside TC joke is true though about their Sheriff's. They used to turn on the red lights if they say more than two Black guys walking down the street together coming from the Duarte area. (Called Racial Profiling) Back then it was call (Business as usual). Football has brought the Community together in more ways than one. Over the years we could see an all white cheerleeding squad and a mostly black football team, and Visa/verse. But thats what Makes communities great. This school has some Super Rich and some Dirt poor Players but you could'nt tell the difference because they all act like brothers. All this to say that if Football is the main focus on this blog than no matter where you have to play you go with the spirit of your community in mind. I doubt that there will be a drive by at the 50 yrd line in the middle of a game.

As I said, Ex-Falcon, my comments were not directed toward whether or not fans travel. I was talking about the comparisons made regarding the players who were mentioned as well as the comment about the great TC runningbacks, which is just not true.(Mooney played at USC and I believe a guy named Mushinski played at Nebraska, among others.)

As far as the 12 man: yeah, it's always nice to have a supportive crowd. I fully expect fewer TC fans to travel all the way to Compton than they did to MHS, partly because of perceived danger and partly due to distance. The thing is, though, good teams don't need to rely on huge momentum swings to win games. TC tries to control the clock and with it the crowd.

More than anything, I did not like some of the undertones or the potential of where this thread was headed, which is no place to be.

Philly,
I'm a Monrovian. I've seen Monrovia get beat by Artesia and Muir as well as by all white Temple City teams. Paso Robles did not seem to have much color of any kind. My point is that good football has nothing to do with skin color. What am I ignoring? Focus on the color of the jerseys.

By the way, this is not directed to whether or not TC fans will travel to a certain game. I'm referring to results on the field, the only thing that matters in the CIF brackets.

Also, Philly, this is not directed only to you. I'm referring all the way back to TC-Guy, then O-Cat, Philly and Ex-Falcon as well as anybody else who made suggestive comments about race. I'm not trying to call people out, but I do think it is silly to make some of the remarks that have been made below.

EX-Falcon said:

new york,

i not making it a skin color thing all, im sayin is your going to compton at night. for people that are from temple city, it is a different world, plan an simple, hell i wouldnt wont to get lost there at night. just like there is black there also hispanics. it's just what iit is. what are the temple city stands going to look like? cuz if we (duarte) have to play in compton i guarntee the stand will be full.

calm down new york, no ones is maken skin color an issue but for you to just completely ignore it as if it is not their is ignorant on your end. This Verbum Dei team sounds very similar to the Serra team from a couple years ago. That team beat TC in the second round...

All you people talking about skin color sound completely ignorant and are embarrassing the schools and communities that you claim to be affiliated with. Embarrassingly, a few of my fellow Monrovia supporters have gotten caught up in it as well.

Philly B said:

Crazy i couldnt have put it better, it would be one thing if it was at temple city but its up in compton, I wont be surprised if some of tc's fans get lost in the hood. But please dont get your ring size yet, because the next three games will be no cakewalk no that tc guy.

EX-Falcon said:

i love this talk tc guy, is your scary a$$ going to compton this week? proably not. dont worry verbum dei is a private school. we use to play compton high school every year in compton and duarte. out of 6 years we loss twice that when they plyed at night. it not hallowen dont be scarred!!!

crazyqube said:

There is no doubt that Coach Mooney knows that Verbum Dei is for reals. I hope the team does also. The Eagles have a great number of weapons and if they play disciplined and mistake free it will make for a very interesting night of football. They have defensive ends and linebackers (Aakeem Ayers 6'3'/225/ 4.5 40) every bit as fast as Broadnax and their O Line is massive (300lbs.) with one of the top athletes in Los Angeles: Reggie Dunn at tailback and a bruiser Shawn Merritt as the other back. The can rack up points almost at will.
Did I mention that the game is being played in Compton?
Temple City I would not get your ring sized just yet...

I've lived in TC all my life. So I've got to say the sophomoronics from these people are not at all surprising.

I do recall a quote from Dwight Broadnax while TC was warming up before the La Salle game, directed at Wesley Riley. "Hey #26, you're a f$c^n b!tc%, don't even suit up!"

So as a long time TC guy, I'm familiar with the "Talk big early, limp like punks when we're beat AND outclassed" attitude. We've let Ayers at Verb know all the weak jive you've been talking in TC.

And you guys thought M-Town was athletic.....

I'm sure you guys are gonna beat them so bad since you guys beat temple city the number one rated team in the midvalley...and temple city beat monrovia 41-24... man la salle has it so easy this week...I say la salle kills monrovia 100-0 since la salle beats number one rated teams!!!

Temple City is one of the worst high schools in the area. They lost to la salle, and thought they would make themselves feel better by destroying la salle property. You will go nowhere in life with that attitude, you poor poor losers.

you need to stop taking meth and bloging. the tenth line you said"...dwight is much smarter than harris" that is a line direct from your blog posted Nov 19, 2006 at 12:47Pm i dont care about you talking about my school bro. im an adult that stuff is childish. you curse and act like your still in high school. as far as tc not being known for "Brothas". every great running back that every played d-1 out of tc has been black. your that guy that has zero Athletic ablity. bro a win is a win against basset are against tc it all that count.

CIF said:

Thanks man for giving La Salle credit, you guys are a good team. There are a lot of pissed off people right now on this blog. This week is a good chance to see what league is the strongest league in the Mid-Valley division with both remaining RHP and Camino Real teams playing each other.

tcqb said:

i can name one... la canada, maybe not the best, but Lavelle makes any team a "quality" team. and for you tc folk who don't think la canada is "quality", we only beat them by three, and once lavelle started getting tosses it was 10 yards left, then 10 yards right, then back left.

and for the la salle haters...
la Salle does not suck, they beat us. yeah we were missing this and it was in the day and IT DOESN'T MATTER. a loss is a loss. we lost.

also, in their last 6 games, La Salle is 6-0. in our last 6 games, we're 6-0. so, just show some class...

and my parting words in this speech... the last time i checked, our opponent this week doesn't begin with a L, M, or D for that matter... it's starts with a V... you know...Verbum Dei. can we focus on the task at hand please?

I will come to the la salle game personally to watch la salle lose.... you guys have no chance...and yer right, you must know so much about the meaning of football because your a stupid spelling grammar....you probably take the time to write a freakin rough draft in this thing too before u write huh??? I think monrovia's the one whose gonna need the toilet paper cuz their la salle is nothin but shit on their ass and their gonna wipe all that la salle shit off!!!! so seriously tho...hows yer basketball looking, heard you guys are really good at basketball....don't even think about a championship after losing to san marino....

Observantcat said:

What TC-Guy is saying is that without the Brothas they would be just another sorry SGV team. I am even more certain that they are not goiong to Win this Division especially if they think they are really that good. I think you are going to have to stepp it up twice as hard to win this division. I really think that Duarte can and will beat you guys. The only thing the TC has is your Profiling Sherrif Dept.

And as far as dwight being smarter and having more work ethic, how in the hell do you know that. you dont, so dont speak on it. do u think im black that is why you spelled "brotha" like that? If duarte "sux" as you say get past verbum dei. cuz this week is about santa clara not temple city.

PS PROUD FALCON FOR EVER.

I find that so funny cuz u guys have no class about that.... ok so u did win, but obviously if la salle got their ass kicked by monrovia, and monrovia got their's by tc....then shit... it miite mean something...its funny cuz u think dwight woulda been stuffed....when u barely stuffed our backup.... la salle sux and their not a good team.....they will get theirs so hard in CIF!!! M-TOWN WILL KILL U GUYS AND EXPOSE HOW BAD U GUYS REALLY ARE...THEY WILL GIVE U A REALITY CHECK AND PUT YER ASS IN PLACE.... TWICE!!!! I BET ALL U GUYS ARE Sh!tt!ing in yer pants riite now..." what are we going to do against potts...were not that good but what are we going to do??" Ex falcon,
U should stop talking in the this thing cuz yer a ex falcon.... seriuosly wha exactly did u do last year...tc smashed on u guys 35-0 in CIF and in the 4th quarter u scored all yer points on our JV...watch it on film....varsity has horns on their helmets...jv has nothing...and we put our whole jv squad against u guys...so seriuosly, how could u even admit yer a ex falcon....duarte sux...last year and this year.... 2nd, u think duarte is actually good??? they play the most sorriest schools ever... bassett...and then wha happens when they play quality team??? they lose huh... and with that easy schedule harris can only run 1600 yards...with dwight broadnax's schedule he runs 2100 yards in 9 games.... so seriuosly u have nothing to say...dwight is much smarter than harris, better work ethics and more experienced and hez got full scholarships to arizona, arizona state, oregon, and oregon state...u obviously have never seen dwight play..man...duarte just sux...thats all i can say..good for them if they beat bassett and citry of industry, just wait until they play a GOOD team...U think TC is number one in the midvalley for nothing???? U really think it was luck that tc beat monrovia??? even monrovia players don't make excuses on that one...they kno... their coach knows it too if u read the newspapers...he straight up said that they got handled in the trenches...do u kno our backup runniback too??? He another brotha name william do, as a sophomore he's 6"3 and weighs 240 pounds and plays linebacker...and when he gets in at runninback he makes plays...so u just can't stop TC!!!!

I guarantee u falcons will not beat TEMPLE CITY!!! 100% TC wins the whole damn thing....first of all...how did monrovia not play their best game???? C'mon, it was their homecoming game...how can u not play yer best game...Their coach just straight up admitted that TC beat them and he had no excuses.... they got too cocky and try to make TC their homecoming....thats just sad...they should have done san marino or Lavelle's team...and here are the factors why TC is just better.. 1. TC BEATS MONROVIA AT HOME AND AT THEIR HOMECOMING 2.Scouts were everywhere so why wouldn't monrovia play theoir best... TC is clearly better than every single school in the league and division 10... and how am i being a excuse maker when TC won n e ways with monrovia's recruiting...

Ex-falcon is right, I see a pretty ugly match-up if you guys do get by Verbum Dei, Harris is a much stronger running back than Broadnax and I think that Duarte is much faster on Defense than you guys are used to. I would love to be at that game instead of the Monrovia game that week. LaSalle is coming back to Monrovia to finish the game they played before the second string was put in halfway thru the third quarter.

Ex-Falcon said:

temple city guy,
i am from duarte but i know half the player on the monrovia team. THEY DONT RECRUIT PLAYER. DONT BE A EXCUSE MAKER.But first and formost worry about verbum dei, all that other stuff means nothing in the playoffs. duarte is going to take care of business againt santa clara. tc barley beat lavelle peterson i cant call them la canda because knowone else did anything. the coaches should quit over there at lavelle team. your team proably cant stop him from running right? well we did that d-line is bigger then any you have seen before are line backer are fast are db's are faster. so try to pound the ball like lavelle did. that's playing right up are ally.

Trojanator, every time you say Temple City was going to be destroyed badly it always turns out the opposite...(La Canada, Monrovia)
Seriously, I think your giving TC to much good karma every time you say that, if you say TC will be victorious and score 100-0 against the VB Eagles, I'm pretty sure TC will be ended up destroyed instead. ^__^
Say it with me! "TC will wipe out the Eagles 100-0!!"
Alright the good karma is finally gone, TC will lose next Friday for sure now.

Trojanator said:

TC fan...u stink go home! It seems as though everytime some TC kid brings up the la salle/TC game the number of players TC was missing keeps on going up. Accept the fact you lost and stop bitchin o and btw TC isnt going anywhere...PERIOD! Verbum Dei is going to smash TC to pieces with their speed and size. The only way Verb will lose is by killing themselves with penalties. WHOS HOUSE? VERBS HOUSE!

Observantcat said:

The run will get stopped by either Monrovia or it's second Cousin Duarte. So dont get your hopes up to high we want the Big Cheese. You are in for a major surprise if you think that Monrovia played its best football. I will guarantee that Dwight will not gain another 300 yards against the defense again. I really think that TC should worry about Duarte Because they will give you all you can handle and more. Then I will personally send you a couple of 50 yrd line seats to the Monrovia/Duarte Bowl....

this person here speaks the truth...LC stands for Lavelle's city and no one on his team contributes to the "W" except well...lavelle... but enought about him...WHO THE HECK CAN STOP DWIGHT BROADNAX!!!!!! U can't stop the guy, its so sad cuz every single team around here knows exactly what were gonna do... "RUN" TC has plays where its a double wingback, and the whole team just blocks and there are no wr's.... everyone just blocks, and every team knows exactly whaz comin to them.."A RUN" and its funny cuz teams can't stop it...just like last year with sushi tsai...temple city will take it all the way!!! People say that M-town will beat them if they ever meet.... but it own't happend because we beat them 41-24 and they even had the game on their homecoming night...their too cocky and all their players are for themselves...they all want to do something so spectacular and thats wha happens when u recruit too many "Superstars" from other schools. Tc is all about teamwork and if dwight had to block, he would block his hardest, he would run routes his fastest knowing he was only a decoid...no one in the league has work ethics like dwight except lavelle.... but Temple CIty works as a team and everyone knows that their gonna take the whole thing...La salle think their good cuz they beat temple city.... thats just sad cuz seiruosly TC isn't use to playing in hot weather...we don't like to play at 90 degree weather at 11 in the morning on hot turf... another thing...dwight broadnax didn't play.... 3 offensive linemen didn't start either and we had a backup who did nothing for us...and the la salle coach was saying that he would have still beat TC even if tc had all the starters...umm...dwight bronax averaged 250 yards a GAME... and he rushed for 1800 yards in 8 games..... so Lancers need to sit down and they probably won't make it to the finals anyways....

One chain don't make no prison...it takes more than just ONE player. It is and has been obvious for a couple of years that that is the case of LC. No disrespect but the truth is the truth.
Fred, you may want to think over your statement about how in High school Football one player can dominate a game, and you are right, one player can have a huge outcome on a game. But on closer inspection you will usually find that an impact player, game swinger type, has a great O Line to block for him and a Defense behind him that keeps him on the field, racking up the yards. Otherwise they go the way of Lavelle and LC. It's a whole team effort and its all about The Hitting! The hardest Hitting team wins!

dont know lavelle but i dont think he is a punk. but he is a great back, but its all falcon pride here.

Prep Star said:

EJ: Wow what a class act. You must save a lot of money brushing you tooth everyday. Because a guy who calls Lavelle Peterson a punk must not have any teeth. A Coward for sure.

Nice effort.

EJ said:

We are going to stop that punk running back from La Canada. GO DUARTE FALCONS

Blue Lion said:

TCGuy,
I like the thought with Monrovia, but a rematch against LaSalle is a long way from now. BOTH teams have to win Friday night. Let's talk about the quarterfinals Saturday morning.

TcGuy said:

-LC over Duarte (Peterson is a tank on speed)
-Monrovia over La Salle
(only being that La Salle lost to Monrovia last meet) am I wrong?

Philly B. said:

Ok everyone wants to hop on the underdog when it comes to duarte, Im telling ya good luck with that pick because im with la canada in this first round game after that i dont know. But their will be no disney ending to this game. peterson will run all over duartes defense and take la canda to the promise land of the 1st round

crazyqube said:

Duarte over LC. I agree.

New York said:

Yankee,
It's nice to see somebody following the NY bandwagon...welcome aboard.

Daddy Yankee said:

New York,
I wanna see Peterson blow past Duarte's Mike Harris 6'8" 315 lbs DL, UCLA commit, and the rest of the Falcons. I mean he'll get his but LC wont upset Duarte.

Blue Lion said:

I just hope M-Town is honing their tools. Bread and Butter will win this CIF tournament. Call it the Monrovia Invitational, if you will.

New York said:

I think Duarte has a pretty good shot at winning. Why not? Doesn't Duarte have some pretty big linemen that could clog up the middle? Force the LC QB to make some plays? Pick a couple off and take them to the house? Let LC potentially self-destruct? It's not as if Peterson calls the plays.

Philly B. said:

hopefully..........

i love how everyone just counts the falcon out. my little brother was on the 2001 duarte football team they played south torrence. Chuncey washington was there running back. he was great in the first half, but the second half was a different story. duarte won that game. hopefully we can win this game.

lancerD said:

let't not underestimate la salles defense, defense didn't finish against monrovia, but they were also coming off 4 disheartining losses and had to deal with their offenses turnovers, coach petersons defense would love another shot at monrovia but this week its about fillmore. the lancers are focused on the week ahead of them, and are ready to show they can stop a true run team.

burbanksports said:

I agree with you about FSHA and Westridge.
I'm still sticking to my original prediction that PHS wins it all. There is only one Roleder. Hard to tell about Hemet-tough league and schedule.
Elsinore is solid at every position, well coached and likely have next year's dominant middle hitter, but they can be beaten.

Philly B. said:

Smith,
La salle is gonna beat Monrovia. Lets not cash our checkes just let as well as monrovia does you have a game to worry about first on friday against Fillmore. So until then lets not go there with the threats. No one from monrovia is even talking about beating la salle because we all know that la salle is a better team then what we played, and for you to say that la salle is gonna stomp on monrovia is showing your arrogance to this blog. I notice you are the only one making predictions and last time i checked your new to the blog. So i suggest you do what the other la salle fans are doing is just keeping their mouths shut and worry about the upcoming game athand and then we'll talk next week. You did make good points our defense DID have holes and our offense was somewhat one dimensional but like anonymopus said David Potts is improving by the week and add that to our running game and we are a very good team. No one is overlooking Azuza but we are excited to think if we do get through this round, how great it would be for the rematch thats all

crazyqube said:

Don't worry the LS Lancers are not looking past any one. Once we take care of business on Friday night, then we can talk! In the meantime our only concern is Fillmore. By the way TC bloggers, we beat you 5 weeks ago...

A.Campa said:

Burbank,

I haven't seen Ali Troost this season, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a more dominant player then PHS's Kimmee Roleder. This is a girl who could realistically average about 35 kills a match. I believe Maxpreps has Troost's average at 10 kills a game. That would tie her for second on PHS with Katie Merrill. Troost's conversion percentage is somewhat low too.

In fact, I don't think this game is going to be that close. I say PHS at home in four. I would have preferred that PHS play North. There's a lot more balance on that team. Now Elsinore is a different story. That will be a great game. I also think Westridge will advance in four over Viewpoint while Flintridge Sacred Heart goes five games against Santa Barbara, but wins.

burbanksports said:

Campa
Who ya got today? Hemet (Roost) or Pasadena( Kimmee)? Either one against Elsinore will be a great match in the finals.

Smith-

What is all this talk about La Selle beating Monrovia?.. Yes monrovia has struggled deffensively in past games but monrovia has also played better teams. and everybody seems to play their best game aginst Monrovia.
And about the 400 yards they put on us maybe true Im not sure BUT what about the 52 pts we put on them. La Selle has improved dont get me wrong but so has monrovia's offense. QB David Potts is playin good football, the running game is coming back again, and LS wont be able to just run all over monrovia because because teams do make ajustments.

LS just worrie about Filmore and us Cats' well take care of azusa!

Geez, 5 weeks later, and La Salle is STILL talking about their win over TC.

Big M, Romeo y Julieta Churchill.
Fillmore is not going to be cake walk.
CIF gives our team no respect, but we will have to show up and play strong D. Regardless of what some of the bloggers here have to say, the LS Run D is tough. Thanks to the changes made by Coach Peterson, the D line has morphed and continues to improve weekly, Quigley and Hilland at tackles, then add Bury and Jimenez at DE, matching book ends, plus the move of Saldana back to the Mike spot has added power to the punch. They will play into our strong suit, and we will be ready to hit!
This is a lot different D than what you saw in MoTown! Just ask TC...

Observantcat said:

I am not overlooking Azusa. I was just commmenting on the part of Freds blog on LaSalle Beating Monrovia if we even play them.

"'Cats prefer to go on the road and play Fillmore, a team that was recently ranked No. 2 before losing their league finale? Either way, another scary second round game. I'm hoping it's Monrovia-La Salle. It would be much closer the second time around"

Azusa is first and formost although after seeing them play I was not impressed at all.

coaches corner said:

Observant Cat.The Cat family apreciate all of the support all year ,but right now ,like BigM said its all about AZUSA.We have no disrespect for this team. They are very sound, and can run the football effectivly.Do I think a La Salle vs. Monrovia rematch would be great, sure, but were all about one game at a time.Geez I think Monrovia vs. Temple City would be even better. But this week bring on Azusa.....Go BRUINS!

Just loving the brackets right now..just lovin' em.

s50m said:

Goodluck to Temple City, Monrovia, and La Canada. By the way, in La Salle's way of thinking, (bringing up the win over Temple City every chance you get) shouldn't you bring up the fact that La Salle lost to San Marino and that Temple City beat San Marino? Oh yeah, I forgot how biased blogs were. And if you bring up how La Salle is a "new team" ever since their win, maybe you should stop to think that maybe Temple City is a "new team" as well.

Hey Cubano...

You worry about Fillmore... we'll talk later.

Smith said:

Did you not notice that Monrovia gave up over 400 yards against La Salle? Monrovia's D has holes in it and has given up yards every game. Oh and Bury and Baeir have been running better and harder than they were in the first half of the season, just ask TC how strong Bury ran that game compared to against Monrovia. Do not get to confident about beating La Salle right now, cuz Monrovia has struggled recently so hopefully both teams will make it to the second round, with of course La Salle beating Monrovia.

Philly B,

Mission Valley consists of Arroyo, Gabrielino, Rosemead, El Monte, South El Monte, and Mountain View.
Valle Vista has Baldwin Park, Covina, San Dimas, Pomona, Ganesha, and Northview.

Philly B said:

What teams are in the valle vista and the Mission valley. If these teams are of equal then im all for it but i really like these arrangements that we have now

Prep League Fan said:

A little off topic but what about a Rio Hondo, Montview, Valle Vista, and Mission Valley CIF grouping. This would be relatively competitive year after year and create some great local rivalries. Right now these leagues are grouped with small private schools that (particularly with the Valle Vista) are sometimes far away. Maybe we can get the coaches and AD's to petition for this alignment during the next cycle.

New York said:

I still have the same assessment that I did going into the season: The CIF reallignment favors TC and LC more so than it does Monrovia (but that's because Monrovia was already more competitive against the Los Padres, Del Rey, and Pioneer teams than TC and LC). That said, I still feel that Monrovia should win the division, if we live up to our potential. That means coaches need to put the players in position to be successful and then the players need to step up and deliver. No more getting outflanked based on formation, no more outside tosses to a defense that is very conscious of the perimeter, no more fade routes against cover four, etc.

Monrovia's playoff success will will likely boil down similarly to every playoff run in the past: how well we defend the power run game, how well we execute a balanced offense, how well we exploit personell mis-matches and holes in the defensive formations we face (sounds obvious, right?). But that is just from some fan up in the ivory tower.

Philly B. said:

I know about one game at a time BigM but that league is run by duarte falcons and the way we worked them early in the season i dont see any one in that league getting past the first round. Its the RHL vs. Montview league. And i like our odds

BigMLover said:

Besides... if we do get past Round 1... we'll have an entire week to talk about La Salle/Fillmore... I can wait.

BigMLover said:

"the odds stack well in Monrovia's favor"

Ask Temple City if the odds were in their favor before their La Salle game...

Games are NEVER won on paper... Azusa could beat us as easily as anyone, if we get caught looking past...don't.

Observantcat said:

I was simply reffering to Fred J. Robledo. I never overlooked an opponent in HS or College for that matter, But in this case I think that the odds stack well in Monrovia's favor (Home Crowd, #2seed,Better Defense & Offense. Coach?....

BigMLover said:

Filly and O-Cat...

Settle down... this week, it's all about Azusa. NEVER look past your opponent... especially in HS football. If the Cats take care of Azusa... as they should... then we all can talk about Round 2.

For the last four weeks, the Aztecs have been able to put up at least 27 pts/game... including an OT loss to Workman. They run the Veer... but primarily use it for the dive only. They also are fond of the Slam play. They will put as many blockers at the point of attack as possible... they will try to Ram it down our throat (read TC).

Stop the La Salle v Monrovia talk.

Focus, men... Focus.

Philly B. said:

I dont think you should look over la salle observantcat, given that monrovia takes care of Azuza, this is a different team that we will be facing a team with something to prove and they want to avenge that horrible lost to us and what better way to do that than the playoffs. but I like the pairings this year and I think that all of our teams from the RHL are the best teams. All three teams can play and go far in the playoffs. This will be exciting. I dont know too much about Sierra Vista But im sure TC will take care of business but I dont think theirs no stoppping lavelle peterson against Duarte. The falcons will have their hands full with him

Observantcat said:

I think that LaSalle was Monrovia's easiest contest to date. If they play like they know they can it should'nt be a problem. I think that LaSalle has the bigger problem in stopping the run, that is what killed them all night. I think that Potts will make a bigger difference in that game if it were to happen.. Offensensively LaSalle just doesn't have the speed to open up a game that has faster defenders. They have a pretty good passing game but in order for that to work you must open it up with a strong running game. Ps...I'm sure that TC wouldnt mind getting their hands on them.
