Northeast and East Valley Division

Northeast
Maranatha is the Alpha's No. 2, facing Sage Hill, a 6-4 team from the Academy League. Sage Hill has a 31-13 loss to Western Christian, and also lost to the division's top-ranked St. Margaret's in their league finale, 42-21. The winner faces either Fairmont Prep (9-1) or the No. 4. seed Salesian (9-3) in the quarterfinals.

East Valley
I love how the East Valley shapes up. Could we actually see a repeat of the Prep League championship in the finals?
Rio Hondo Prep (8-1) is on the top half of the bracket, facing Aquinas (7-3) in the first round, with a possible semifinal showdown against top-ranked Big Bear (10-0).
Pasadena Poly (8-1) is the No. 4 seed, and watch out for their first round opponent, Vasquez, a free-lance team with a 6-2 record. Vasquez barely lost to Mary Star of the Sea, 28-27, which is a tough team from the Camino Real League, where La Salle plays.

Sorry Finchamp, I just got the message now, but at first i thought after seeing that #9 run the ball and #21 i thought wow there is no way they can stop them and after the first half i thought the same thing that happend in the first half would happen in the second half, but RHP proved me wrong they came out fired up and brought the game within one touchdown, and they had the ball on there opponents 35, and if they would have scored on that drive, they werent going to be stopped after that, but its unfortunate that they lost their intensity and lost the game, but respect for that school just became stron because of how they played that game. I did see a guy with a Red and Black feathery wig but i hadnt gotten this message to know that it was you so sorry.

Knox,
I would also like to welcome you to the RHP game tonight. Finchamp will be the one wearing the red and black feather wig - you can't miss him. Go Rio!

Knox--

RH Prep will welcome your support--especially a former gridiron competitor. If you ever tackled Landon Goodwell on your own it was an accomplishment itself--yes similar characteristics to Chike at Aquinas but let's hope he's not as good as Goodwell. Landon is playing football at UTEP as a linebacker I believe.

RHP will definitely have to notch it up a bit. Rio has to be a little quicker and they will rely on some new backfield sets and plays to disrupt Aquinas. The offense must move the ball this week and the D do what it customarily does knowing the opponent runs almost 90% of the time.

Say hi to me. I'm usually one of the loudest seated on a top row.

Hey P Finchamp I think I might be going to the RH game tommorow. Im going to be paying for tickets so it better be a good game, but i already know its going to be a good game so i dont need to worry about that. I was looking at maxpreps and noticed that Aquinas has a running back whos big, fast, and explosive, kinda like that guy i had to tackle, Landon Goodwell, man that guys a beast, where did he go to college? is he playing football? Well besides that good luck on friday, if theres any prep team that i want to win its the Rio Hondo Prep Kares. Go get em'.

Tom S--

Yeah, disappointing but it's as it should be on Friday night. You guys will have a better match-up than us. Aquinas is arguably a top 4 D-XII team and we need to play mistake free. Best of luck with Sage Hill--I fully expect Maranatha to win this game.

Finchamp: Hey my friend. I was planning on coming down to Kares field Friday night wearing my Maranatha sweatshirt and sitting on that beloved hill no matter what anyone said, but now we get to play Friday night at San Marino High under the lights just like high school football is meant to be played. Word has it that the lights will be going up in time for next years season at Minutemen field and we’ll have the privilege of playing Friday nights at our own field. Looks like you have a tough match up with Aquinas. They have a 7 and 3 record but I checked them out on Cal Preps and they look like a very good team. We also have a battle with Sage Hill and their stats look similar to ours. Best of luck to both teams in going to the next round.
Regards.

Too bad for Sage Hill and me! Looks like this stretches Fred's crew a bit too.

Thanks for the update guys, you're awesome. We'll get that corrected in the paper.

Yep - Friday night 7:30 at San Marino - go Minutemen!!!

Fred: Man, I hate to do this but you might want to double check your source on the Saturday game at Maranatha, which I was looking forward to. I’ve gotten word from a very reliable source at the school that the game will be played Friday night at San Marino HS. Sage Hill wouldn’t agree to the Saturday game. Bummer.

Tom S--

I'll get your attention at the Sage Hill game. And look here buster, anyone supporting RHP is welcome on the HILL--heck your team sat on the hill for our Bakersfield game, in front of our stands, and we didn't whisper a peep to 'em.

Knox--

that is about as high a praise as you can give the RH Prep fellows and I suspect you do it from the perspective and respect only a rival could know. Aquinas is a big deal. They played Ontario Christian tough (9 points I think) and Ontario Christian beat La Salle 45-14. No doubt RH Prep has a tough road to travel and believe me they are not looking past Aquinas.

And Fred--

Yes I noticed the logo and picture immediately. A big THANK YOU for that...but let's not diminish the fact that RHP was the only area CIF champ last year and they earned that spot!!! And even though I didn't lobby for RH Prep and Aquinas to be your game of the week, it still marks an extraordinary match-up of two reigning CIF Champions meeting in a play off game--that's special!

Andrew Knox (ex- Flintridge Rebel) said:

Thank you P Finchamp, but yea it was a really great game, and for some reason i am following up on RHP than i have for my own Rebels, but there is something about those "Kares" that gets my attention. They are a small team in size both in numbers and in phisic, and they manage to pick on the best and im sure they have something special going on at that school, but i dont quite know the answer. But besides all that they are going to have a tough time with Aquinas, then they will have in Quareter Finals, because Bishop Union and Desert Hot Springs are not teams that can even beat Chadwick. So best of luck to Rio on there march to defend there title, but technically they are not defending the D12 title but they still won THE TITLE and so did Aquinas.

FredJ said:

Finchamp, I thought you would like our Prep Rally logo. It's a shot of RH Prep winning last year's title. We're using it as the logo for the Tribune and Whittier Daily News to...

Finchamp:
Hey that’s great if it works out to come over and see our game Saturday. If you do and have time come over to the Sage Hill side and say HI. I’ll be on the chain crew, the one with the down box. I’d love to see your game Friday against Aquinas but since I wouldn’t be allowed to sit on the hill with the RHP faithful but delegated to the visitor’s bleacher area not sure if I’ll make it. Best of luck to you guys.

Unless my daughter has a conflicting soccer game (Gold level club--games from Thousand Oaks to Laguna) I will be at that "jewel of a campus" on Saturday to watch you guys pick on Sage Hill.

Minuteman Fan said:

Fred - Thanks for flipping the blog - much better, and finchamp, yes, even after you beat us so soundly, I am pulling for "the little school that could"

P Finchamp said:

Go Kares!!!

Is there really anyone out there that doesn't (even if it's secretly) root for RH Prep? What outstanding accomplishments from a school with under 100 enrolled (boys & girls). The band, their field, their name, their traditions, the throngs of kids at their games, their outstanding football program.

After spending years in 6 and 8 man football divisions with almost no competition they pleaded to play in a larger venue. Now that they are there, who doesn't pull for this little guy?

FredJ said:

Yeah, I'm told it's easier for people to read recent comments first.

Fred--

You turned the blog upside down---probably better...

La Salle has earned your game of the week.
