chingon, chingy whatever. You should care i mean after we stomped on you early in the season, you should be looking over the other games, actually you should be looking at TC/verbum Dei. Cuz either team will not be one dimensional like la canada. And if Verbum Dei wins against TC. And you beat santa clara(which i think you should the way Harris let everyone know he is one the best runningbacks in the division) Verbum Dei has just as much or even more speed than duarte. I'll say it now the way they're playing they like a super muir team. so please you worry about the upper bracket and not the lower ok

crazyqube said:

Chiringon, you better wait "till Friday night is over before you start with your chingaderas about LS or M.

LOOK OUT, HERE COME THE FALCONS, TO WIN IT ALL.
We don't care if La Salle or Monrovia wins. When they play us they will be drug through the mud like all the other teams.DHS

Biggest Game in La Salle History????

1. HISTORY: Since the football program started in 1992, they have never advanced to the CIF-SS Divisional semifinals.

Blessed by the smoking priest on the front lawn.

2. RECOGNITION: The Lancers compete in the Camino Real League, facing teams like Verbum Dei, Mary Star, and others well outside the area. They also play too many Saturday afternoon games, and prior to this year, played in CIF-SS playoff games against teams that nobody outside La Salle was interested in.

Who cares???!!

3. OPPORTUNITY: The Lancers are in the Mid-Valley Division where local teams from the Rio Hondo and Montview teams compete in. If the Lancers can defeat the Wildcats, an area power on a prime-time Friday night game of the week, they not only will be in the semifinals, but think of what this could do for future recruiting. La Salle is an affordable private school in a beautiful area of Pasadena.

Affordable until the school hits you up with "Donations" then the cost goes up significantly.
As for the location, It's not bad, but its a very small campus and has zero growth potential. In an area with at least a few choices for kids, the school private school that can handle more numbers will win in the end. First class football facility is one thing but size is very important.

A win over Monrovia could turn them into a Mid-Valley power for years to come.

LaSalle??? Come on!!

Heck, they might already be on their way

I believe that this year will be their peak season and you will see them start to decline.

4. FUTURE - A couple years ago La Salle installed a state of the art artificial surface, and last week, played under Friday night lights for the first time in the history of the school. All that is left is a signature victory, and think of what it would mean to beat Temple City and Monrovia in the same year.

La Salle is a nice "little" private school and they will always be that way. They have no room to grow their campus and they have too much competition to be another St. Francis unless they also get out their pocketbooks and purchase some talent which they may already be doing.

crazyqube said:

right on the money Philly!

Philly B. said:

Well looks like we're already making predictions...... I think hold predictions at least to thursday. The picks are not that easy for the second round. I mean TC will have their hands full with Verbum Dei. As well as Muir with Colony. Monrovia will have to get over themselves and not assume that this game will be an easy win. If we just look at them as another team that we have to get past to get to the bigger prise, CIF rings baby. Duarte will have a game to against Santa Clara. Their are no more easy games coming up

crazyqube said:

To all the LS bretheren, lets all collectively ignore these idiotic postings from certain TC factions. The more we respond the more impetus we give these cretins. I believe they do not represent the TC sentiments accurately and are just itching for our responses.
Friday night will come soon enough... that is our #1 priority.

LS said:

Didn't La Salle beat the number 1 ranked team, Temple City? And do not say they won without broadneux, because TC qb already said that LS beat them fair and square.

Wait how many teams from Burbank and from the Pacific league advanced in playoffs? Just Muir? Ok enough said.

Ok. I won't mention again how San Marino beat La Salle.
I'll keep a space for you on the Frontier League bandwagon after this Friday's loss to Monrovia.

CIF said:

Burbank sports just stop talking on this blog for the rest of the year. Obviously you do not know anything because you typed in an article about Fillmore and how they will crush La Salle. They did not, and now you are saying that it is a sure pick this week now with Monrovia over La Salle. I think it is time that you go watch some women's basketball because you might have some luck their in Vegas maybe, because football is obviously not your cup of tea.

I told you already Monrovia is the gimme pick, your choice is predictable.

Thanks Burbank, I was waiting for you to clinch it ;)

burbanksports said:

It's easy to pick Monrovia over La Salle. La Salle lost to San Marino.

burbanksports said:

There will be plenty of room on the Frontier League bandwagon after La Salle loses to Monrovia.

crazyqube said:

Oh Burbanksports, I forgot:

Bobby Halcon blah, blah, blah.
Curtis Cole blah, blah, blah.
Sorry I get carried away :)
Do me a favor make sure you pick Monrovia over La Salle, its the gimme pick!

Lancer Double8s said:

Nice call Burbank!!! I'm still waiting to see a play where Fillmore doesn't have an illegal motion. I didn't see Big Boy Cole take more than two steps in any direction, and Halcon did some damage but the only Flash touchdown came from a Lancer muffed punt. Bury dominated, Baier dominated, the Lancer D dominated and....the Flashes ran towards Jimenez twice all night!!! Anyone else from the Frontier league's bandwagon left for you to jump on?

crazyqube said:

So BurbankSports, what happened to Halcon, what happened to the Fillmore Stars Flashes, and what happened to the stud #65? Sleeping? He ate a lot astroturf. Why? Because 70 is greater than 65.

I think your prediction may come to fruition. From what I understand there are more than a few extremely important players that have been declared ineligible due to academics and one of the starting recievers has a fractured collarbone. So frustrating!

Have you and Augi been feeding that kid some anabolic Cheerios? Sounds like he is ready to go.

crazyqube said:

Burbanksports, The Flashes may have a 320 Lb. lineman. It will not be the first time LS plays against such girth. He will face Alex Jimenez as a DE all night long! If you have not seen Jimenez play, then you better come and see the manchild. Cole will not be able to dominate him and Halcon better look out Jimenez does get his meat hooks in him. I don't think Cole will have much fun Friday night. Fillmore has not seen a specimen as him of yet: 6'3/250lb 4.8 speed, benches 300 and squats 400. He has seen the best this Division has and handled it: Oaks Christian, Temple City, Monrovia, Verbum Dei, etc. There has got to be a reason why so many D1 schools are interested in him?
The Lancers average over 200 yds rushing a game under a bruising attack led by an O line that makes gaping holes for Bury to truck through and Baer to slash past. If La Salle played a soft schedule as Filmore plays their stats would be there also. Numbers can be deceiving, don't let them fool you. Let's see what happens Friday night. Hope you come see the show...

Westridge Fan said:

Fred,

What's up with Campa? Is he some Pasadena High School homer or graduate? All he's covered during this volleyball playoffs has been Pasadena? I hope he or you will be covering Westridge tomorrow? Please tell me there will be some coverage.

Westridge Fan said:

Blue Lion,

The reason why people keep on talking about volleyball is that Fred doesn't want to/hasn't created a seperate blog. The last one got about 30 hits, more then half of the blogs up right now. I thought you were the Preps Sports Editor Fred? Maybe you should just change your title to Prep Sports Football Editor since its apparent you don't know much about the other sports being played at this time. Have you even covered volleyball, tennis or water polo? We have teams in the finals and I just find it funny that you're not covering any of those sports or even talking about them. Don't those kids deserve any recognition?

pete s. said:

kudos to a couple small school coaches! Coach Drain has done 'another' wonderful job with the talent at Rio. Coach McGrail at Poly has his team poised to go deep into the playoffs. It will be interesting to see what he does with the 18 seniors graduating on a team of 25 or so. And to echo the earlier post, well done Coach Murphy. A league championship, even if shared, was something that the school has been struggling to do for 20 years. Good things are going to come from that school. Good luck to all the boys out there playing tomorrow night.

Hey Fred J....

Wonderful article today on Arcadia's DE Kevin Hess! That kid indeed plays with tons of intensity, and it will be fun to watch him play on "Saturdays" in the coming years. I watched him in the Muir game and could tell his fractured foot was bothering him, yet he'd still be in on just about every tackle. He's got the "right stuff"! Best wishes Kevin... and to the Apaches vs. Colton!

Tom S ......
I concur that Maranatha will be ready for teams like La Salle in a few years, as long as they "notch up" their pre-season schedules and maintain continuity with their coaching staffs. Which incidentally, I think first-year Head Coach Joel Murphy should be applauded on the fine job he did in preparing this young squad in '06! Good luck in the playoffs.!

And one final thought...as a Blair Alum. ('81), I think the Vikings would be better served by their removal from the Rio Hondo League and being placed within a league such as the Alpha or other "small school" league. Bless his heart, Tip Sanders did a terrfic job coaching the Vikes this year, but I think it would boost morale and the program if they were dropped into a corresponding league to fit their caliber. Just a thought!

Burbanksports,

Yes, Halcon is impressive for Fillmore. He only weighs 145 pounds, is kinda skinny, and yet he plays both ways. He has 6 intercepts this year. This is what the playoffs are for, our best against your best, our coaching knowledge against yours, our conditioning against yours.
Good luck to all the WSGV teams in the playoffs.
The next couple of weeks should be a lot of fun.
I'll be at La Salle's first night game.
GO LANCERS!

Minuteman Fan said:

What are you guys talking about? Sorry I am confused.

Observantcat said:

Sorry Mr. Beckwith.

I think you are replying to the wrong person. I have nothing to do with Maranatha.....That person is posted below those comments.

burbanksports said:

For the La Salle fans-

In a league win over Santa Clara, Halcon rushed for 187 yards on 34 carries and scored three touchdowns on runs of 5, 4 and 10 yards. He also threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Marcos Negrete in the second quarter.

Halcon ended the regular season with 1,653 rushing yards on 189 carries and 14 touchdowns. As a junior, he rushed for 350 yards with five touchdowns and had an interception on defense. He can become a 2,000-yard rusher this week in the playoffs.

Fillmore teammate Curtis Cole, at 6-foot-2 and 320 pounds, knocks people down so Halcon find daylight.

"Our offensive line and Bobby make a great team. His speed, quickness and experience make our job as offensive linemen easier," said Cole. "He's fun to block for."

Jonathan Beckwith said:

Minuteman Fan-

O.K..... Saint Francis...
Is there any doubt about it. Look at their new standout freshman WR. I happen to know that he was all set to go to Maranatha but St. Francis was speaking his language. You know..the language that they speak at Oaks Christian....it has something to do with the color Green!

Go Minutemen!!

Philly B. said:

I've seen colton on film last year. That team didnt play around with football. I agree with anonymous on this. Theres' no way Muir would of came close to colton h.s.

Jonathan Beckwith said:

Observantcat-

Bring it on! The Minutemen are not afraid of a challenge. Next year would be a good time to try a larger challenge. I think we will do better against RHP next year. We will return every lineman on offense and defense and retain several of our skill players including star running back Mark Love.

What can I say...I'm pumped!!

I'll go on record as saying that Maranatha will win the first round tommorow night over Sage Hill by 2 touchdowns min.

Go Minutmen!!

Guess I'm buying into all the Peterson hype. I'd like to see Duarte win and if they get past this first game who knows what they could accomplish.

Anonymous said:

fred j i dissagree with you about last year muir would have won it all. im from monrovia but i live in colton i went to a colton football game last year. that team was for real with allen bradford and sherice wright. knowbody in that including muir would have beatin them.

crazyqube said:

Burbanksports, I disagree on two of your picks:
La Salle over Fillmore
Duarte over LC

FredJ said:

Stang Fan, if this division was created a year ago, Muir would have won a CIF title. But Youngblood is a huge concern. He hasn't looked right for nearly a month, and they need him because Lance hasn't looked comfortable at quarterback. I hope they put it all together, but I'm not feeling them right now. You're right though, their defense is holding them together, so you never know.

New York said:

Sorry Maranatha fans. My tired eyes let me down last night.

I actually do not commend the administrators decision, and I'm sure the benefitting coach on the other side did not either, at least I would not. A few years ago a team I was coaching received a forfeit win after the winning team had done some slight damage to our locker room. The other coaches and I thought it was a joke. Their post game actions had nothing to do with their or OUR on the field performance, and therefore should not be reflected in the W-L column. Think of a different disciplinary action. I am 100% for playing and conducting ourselved with integrity. However, Let the records reflect what happens on the grid-iron.

Stang Fan said:

Fred,
I knew there was a reason I liked Campa better! Have you even seen Paloma Valley play? I know you are basing your prediction on the fact that Willie Youngblood is hurt and that the offense has struggled dramatically as a result, however the "D" is simply on fire right now. These dudes are literally flying to the ball on every play and the secondary has had at least 8-10 picks the last three games. Oh and by the way the D has only given up 18 points over the last three games (including 3 OT's).

But that is why I love this blog, let the guessing games begin.

Minuteman Fan said:

New York - that was definately not Maranatha that did any forfeiting - nor had any discipline issues. I do commend the principal of Marshall for his handling of the situation - but I can assure you - it was not us.

burbanksports said:

I think you mean Marshall. Not that you asked me, but I think Marshall's Principal should be commended for his actions. I wonder if a playoff bound school would have done the same thing?

I hear you. It is a great time of year for volleyball. And the club season is just around the corner. The Star News should be doing something special for the PHS and Westridge teams. What do you say Fred?

New York said:

Minutemen Fan,
How do you feel about your principal forcing the team to forfeit the Calvary Chapel game? Did that affect Maranatha's seeding in the playoffs? I read a blurb about it in the article that was featuring St. Francis.

anonomous said:

to anyone who cares,
Why the heck doesn't anyone care about volleyball? i don't want to trash football cause i love it too. but im sure everyone else in the world would like some more recognition. and i mean other sports. at this point in volleyball season its the most exciting time to watch. CIF Championship matches on Friday and Saturday 17-18 and i know every team is workking their butt off to win it. there is going to be some great volleyball goin on down there. And im not just saying that because im a player. It really is true. there was a volleyball blog a while ago...what happened to it?

Glad to see you getting on the bandwagon. I think your getting ahead of yourself right now. I proposed two or three weeks ago on here that we toughen our pre season schedule by eliminating Cal School for the Deaf and Twin Pines and add Poly and another school but I don’t think were ready for La Salle. Maybe 2 or 3 years from now. But hey, right now we better stay focused on the CIF playoffs and not worry about next season. We have a battle in store with Sage Hill and let’s not look ahead of that. Let’s hope we get back to full strength and have the intensity that we had against Brentwood.
GO MINUTEMEN

Come on man, just say St. Francis...

A better start for the Minuteman might be to keep RH Prep on the schedule, add Poly, keep Bakersfield Christian and add another small school instead of Animo. I'm not convinced that Maranatha approached La Salle but I only say that because I know our schedule at RHP had already been determined by the time we finished last year. Just a thought.

I think that Duarte has a real good chance of winning your CIF game. I think that Peterson though is much better running back than Washington Was and Is....I'm a true to heart Monrovia/Duarte fan...I always wondered what kind of teams we would have had if Santa Fe Jr. High were a High school?....

Does Maranatha want to schedule Monrovia, Temple City and La Canada while they're moving up in the world?!

The Voice said:

It's nice to see a sweep of confidence for the Minutemen. This is just the beginning of an eventual breaking of the Valley "Top Ten" where they will soon be a "regular". Now that Maranatha has a first class facility with the finest campus in the valley, great fan support and a school increasing in numbers by the year, everyone will see a vast improvement in the next few years from every sport. Now that we are on more of an even playing field, we are ready to take on the Lancers for one. Apperently, the offer was there for this year but La Salle turned it down. Hey La Salle supporters, we would love to add you to our schedule anytime you are ready. The only thing is, Maranatha will not get into the game of "purchasing" strong atheletic prospects and not considering their grade point average or character. There is AT LEAST one football power house in the area that does opperate that way.
Let's keep building a strong program the right way.
Go Minutemen!
