"I was wrong"
GO MINUTEMEN!!!!!!!!!!!

Maranatha fans,

I just noticed that Fred had me down for Maranatha in their game against Salesian. I wish I could say my mind has been changed but I still believe Salesian will pull out a squeaker. That's just a typo. But good luck to Maranatha. Pasadena Dad was absolutely correct about the intimidation factor. If Maranatha can get over that hill, they will have a good chance. But then again, that's not an easy task.

PasadenaDad: Thank you for your insight into the Salesian team. I’m sure Coach Murphy knows about their tactics and I’m sure he will let the team know how to deal with it. Remember the Minutemen can play hardball also.
Wow, can’t wait for tonight. Now we have the opportunity to prove that we’re a football power and gain some respect.
GO MINUTEMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Martanatha Minutemen:

There is no need to be concerned about dirt being thrown into your eyes; (new artificial turf field) however, Salesian Mustang players will make every effort to intimidate you right from the start. They will hit your receivers and backs hard (yes, even away from the ball) and whisper into your ear to let you know it. The Salesian defense will even take the 15 yard personal foul penalty if they sense you are "soft". The key is not to let it them "get into your heads" but to continue to play your style of football. Be smart, play hard, and by no means let the Boyle Heights bravado suck you in. Many good teams have fallen prey to this tactic. Don't let it be you.

Good luck tonight.

Another thing about Salesian. A couple of years ago I took a 8th grade team down there for the CYO flag football playoffs. The field was hard as rock. It was like playing on a parking lot. When I mentioned where I had gone to a former La Salle soccer player, who played in the 90's, he said "hard as a rock, right? It's always been like that."
So Maranatha, bring extra padding.

Gil Aviles said:

I agree with my esteemed colleagues, the small schools need coverage like TC, Muir and Monrovia. GO Maranatha Minutemen! We have very good speed for a small school. We need to reduce our penalties. I think be ok against Salesian. We both beat Calvary Chapel (which doesn't say too much).

Qbans in the house at M-Town tomorrow!

yea robledo like your pick on verb taking TC, but wats with monrovia over LS? its ok la salle is usually underdog so no ill will but dont be surprised when people say "I told you so"

Lancer88,
That Salesian incident is still fresh in my mind. That may have been the first LS game I saw. It still cracks me up how Coach Stueck reacted to his kid complaining about getting dirt thrown in his eyes...he mocked the kid, laughed, and told him to go kick butt. Keep it simple, right.I actually think Stueck decided to really go after them with many consecutive inside runs. LS should be ashamed for not keeping him around, some how some way.

Fred,

It's Aram's own "Mike the Clone" chiming in on your territory.

I just wanted to say that having you guys do the "prep rally" together was a great move. Although some of your "honks" won't know what I'm talking about or who "Mike the Clone" is.

You guy's were great although A.T. schooled you on where the best football is played.

Fred have a great Thanksgiving and I'll take Monrovia this week.

Out!

The first time the Cats played La Salle starting TE/DE Eric Brooks and starting CB and P/T RB Tyler Thompson were both on the sidelines with injuries... besides that two of their defensive stars sat out the first half due to missing a practice (Albert Arnold and Tim Epperson)... the Cats STILL put 21 on the board in just over 6 minutes, on their way to a 52 pt. total!

La Salle backers want to remind us M-town folk that they are not the team we beat on Sept. 29th... I'll agree to that. But you better know that all those players we missed the last time will be playing on Friday.

La Salle will have to execute their best keep-away-gameplan... it still won't be enough.

La Salle - 16
Monrovia - 30

Tom S said:

Well Fred: Sorry to see the small schools get excluded from the Pep Rally but that’s ok. When both Maranatha and Poly advance to the semi’s maybe we’ll start to get some coverage. Thanks to Lancer Double8s for your insight to Salesian. I'm sure Coach Murphy knows. And Campa, you changed your prediction from a 24 to 22 win for Salesian to favor Maranatha. Wow, what changed your mind? Now onto my prediction, Maranatha 24 Salesian 17. Our defense will hold strong and Fuery will have the game of his career. He will score two touchdowns with Salesian keying on Love as most teams have done. Even with the coverage on Love, Mark will have the other touchdown on a great run back. Delahooke will have a field goal and then onto the semis.
Good luck to all the teams who are still in it.
Oh and
GO MINUTEMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well this is my last post for a while. im going out of town for the hoildays. i will not be attending the Duarte santa clara game. so to all the folks out there in blog land that love me so much, here are perdiction:

Duarte42 santa clara 21(but dont know anything about them, jus my bias opinion)
monrovia 55 lasalle 24 (fright train, runnin over anybody in there way)
verbum dei 38 temple city 24 (the speed is too much)

muir 24 colony 21 (not a big pasadena fan but going for the sgv)

Observantcat said:

I guess I will be the only only to keep it real. Being that I did play football and yes we did have a second chance situation the results were the same. I think that Monrovia will have no problem stopping LaSalle and I do still believe LaSalle will have plenty of problems stopping Monrovia. I will not measure LaSalle against any other team ecept Monrovia. The TC game is and has been history and If they played TC Right now I think they would get destroyed by the run. I believe that Monrovia is on it's way to playing it's best football right now and I would be very hard for me to pick against them. My prediction is Monrovia 46 LaSalle 12

Lancer Double8s said:

By the way....Maranatha, take down our old nemesis the Salesian Mustangs!! Talk about bravado and poor sportsmanship, when I played at La Salle they embodied it. From kicking one of players in the face, to New York's favorite story (the dirt in the face incident), to urinating on our goalpost. These guys are usually rough and tough but lacking discipline. Best way to deal with it? We'll go back to Coach Stueck...."Just get out there and hit 'em in the mouth!"

Good Luck Minutemen!

Philly B. said:

stang fan,
Believe me i want the mustangs to win but like you said with the problems on offense. Unless the running back for muir is 100% then i really just dont know but i always want the local teams to beat the teams that arent from around here but sometimes it doesnt happen that way. Hopefully muir can prove me wrong

Lancer Double8s said:

No predictions here...Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Philly, that game is at a park on Del Mar and Kinneloa in Pasadena.

Stang Fan said:

Philly B.,

I most certainly respect your opinion, but I most certainly disagree. I can't see Colony scoring 35 points on our defense, I just don't. Obviously if they do they most certainly will win, hell if they score at least 21-24 they will probably win (due to our problems on offense), but like I said I just don't see it happening.

But as always "let them play" and we shall see.

GO CAMPA!!!

Philly B` said:

I agree with let the play on the field decide th outcome but with predictions it goes as follows

Colony 35 muir 24: sorry muir but i just think colony is a better team but please prove me wrong

Alhambra 34 santa fe 31: If brown runs loose they should be able to pull it it off

Duarte 40 santa clara 28: I hope the falcons have got over themselves with last weeks win, There is a bigger prize at stake

Temple city 17 Verbum Dei 37: as much i want to see teams from the area go far I think the environment and the speed of verbum dei should take care of the rams

Game of the week Monrovia 35 la salle 28: Yes it will be a much closer game but. I feel that the speed we have is too much for the lancers and sparks is a hitter on defense and offense in his fullback position, I really dont think they can keep up with us. What did you expect for me to pick the lancers cuz they beat TC or cuz they're the hot team going into the playoffs, dont think so, but it will be a game for sure

LancerVideo said:

Last week at the La Salle Fillmore game, the refs were sent up from the South Bay. They called a lot of penalties against Fillmore, and not very many against La Salle, but the film confirmed that there were legitimate penalties against Fillmore, and La Salle played a mistake free game.
In the middle of the game, a ref looked at on of the La Salle players socks, did not like what he saw, and sent the player off for a play. This seems to be a much better interpretation of the rules than a 15 yard penalty, that others have written about, once in the Muir game.
Let the play on the field decide the outcome, I always say.

Stang Fan said:

FRED!

Bro, you just refuse to believe don't you. Or are you just picking against us so that Coach Howard can use your newspaper as an "inspiration" for victory again. Yeah I know Colony is pretty good, but they are definitely beatable. If we do get past this weekend and run up againgst Colton next week, then I won't have such a problem with you picking against us; those guys are for real. But at least go with home team when both teams are somewhat evenly matched.

BTW, last week's zebra crew was one of the best I'd ever seen. As much hell as refs get on these blogs I'd definitely like to give props to crews that do a good to great job.

GO CAMPA!!!
