Wow, sad state of affairs at PHS. Shows whats happens when you put all of your eggs in one, or two baskets. Was talking to a Monrovia parent last night after the Muir game, (tough loss for the LadyCats but they showed some spark) and we were wondering why PHS isn't playing Monrovia again this year. Last years game was a barnburner with PHS winning by one on a controverial non-call at the end of the game. With the scores posted by Fred, now we know why. Good Luck to PHS as they start the rebuilding process. Hope Coach Mayberry stays around.
GIRLS BASKETBALL SCORES ON MAXPREPS I CAN'T BELIEVE.
Here is what life at Pasadena High School is like after losing two-time Star-News player of the year Brittany Spears and Amber Mays.
Notre Dame 69, Pasadena 18
Grant 65, Pasadena 4 (ouch, hurts just typing it).
I'm responding to a few of the blogs I've seen on this site--this being my first time. Let's be honest Fred, the PSN, doesn't seem to get the reporting very concise. Over the years too many ommissions and not accurate detail. Give you an example, my daughter says there's an MHS player that never gets mentioned yet his name is heard over the PA system consistently. Kid named Jones. He had a TD in last night's game that never hit the stats. That's one of a 100 as I read through the local schools articles and stats.
Rio Hondo watcher, thanks for the info. That's what we want during the high school season, updates from anyone at games. Obviously, there is so much going on in the winter we can't cover all the games like we do in football. But if there are people like Rio Hondo watcher who write in and tell us what they saw, it's going to make for super expanded coverage during the season. Once boys and girls soccer get going, we'll start a weekly blog for them too.
Got a call tonight after the Monrovia-Rosemead scrimmage. Monrovia destroyed Rosemead something like 90-10. I asked if the coach kept his starters in most of the game and they said he rotated 1st and 2nd string every 2-3 minutes. Either Monrovia is really good or Rosemead is really bad. Not sure Rosemead should be #8 in the pre-season polls.
I believe it starts the last week of November.
When is the wildcat tournament Fred?
Fred,
That's terrible, I had no idea! I hope she is okay. I remember hearing how against Monrovia last year she was at the halfcourt line and a Monrovia girl was driving to the rack from just inside the 3-point line and ELiza FLEW to the basket and absolutely threw the attempted lay-up. Amazing! BTW Fred, just as a cool sidenote Eliza was BY FAR one of the best flag football players in Pasadena when she was in middle school. She destroyed so many boy's egos it wasn't even funny.
Good luck this year Stangs!!!
We'll know a lot about Muir and Monrovia right off the bat. Hopefully they will meet in the finals of the Wildcats tournament.
Stang Fan, did you hear about Eliza. She fractured her foot about a week ago when a school truck backed up on her in the middle of campus. She's lucky it wasn't a lot worse. Coach Gary Johnson said he expects her to miss four to six weeks. But you're right, she is a beast.
Good luck to all the girls in the local area during their basketball season this year.
Im a looking forward to monrovia gurls b-ball. My cousin is shateah West and I got a chance to see her at the football game on friday and man she got alot stronger, I mean she got in her post position and I would hate to have to guard her if i was a girl, she is gonna be a force to be reckoned with this season, the way palos verdes mand handle monrovia in the paint will not happen this year,
This year's team is scary good. The one thing that concerns me is their youth, but it's not a huge concern since so many of the young girls played a ton last year. The difference maker on the team is actually not even in the picture. Eliza Pierre is a beast. She is one of the most athletic girls I have seen in a long time. I'm not quite sure how they will measure up now that their in D-1, but I know they'll definetly be in the mix for a ring.
