Boys and Girls Soccer

Monrovia's Samantha Holmes out with an ACL, but Monrovia is 4-0 after winning Duarte tournament.

Blogsters, this week is busy, but please keep us all posted on what's going on during the soccer tournament schedule. Look at the Arcadia boys, 4-1, and the consolation tourney champs at Rancho Cucamonga. Wins over Bonita and Montclair. Very impressive. Marshall boys beat La Salle, 3-0, for all those who doubted our preaseason polls.
In girls soccer, Westridge and Maranatha tied, 1-1. But the story so far is after losing the big three of Lisa Kevorkian, Mandy Puffinburger and Amanda Chacon, the Monrovia girls are 4-0 and outscored their opponents 18-1 in winning the Duarte tournament.
Monrovia beat Flintridge Prep 3-1, and Flintridge Prep beat San Marino 4-0 in that tournament. Looks like Wildcats coach Randy Medina was right about his girls soccer team.

La Salle Girls have awesome talent. I hope the togetherness of the football team continues to rub off. If they play together as a team, watchout...it's theirs to lose.

Looking at the schedul for the SP boys tournament this weekend I see a lot of big time school names and Im wondering if they are really good in Soccer...

Fred you know how St. Maragarets is and Oaks Christian in soccer?

This Saturday Keppel Boys Varsity will head into the Wilson High Tournament. Anybody know what kind of teams will be there? I know the first team they'll be playin will be Montebello. Tough luck. This will be an excellent for Keppel, as 60% of the team is composed of freshmen. There is only 6 returning players.

The one goal for poly was an own goal made by a young player's mistake... SP dominated the game. As league matches approach, SP will develop and is likely to be the team to beat. They suffer will injuries galore, including senior captain Ashley McKenzie, but still held their own against "top-ranked" Westridge.

They have returners with championship experience and the key ingredients of a dominating team.

Robert D. said:

About the SP vs Poly game, I kept the Stats for that game, and actually Poly had only 2 shots, one of which was the "On Goal" that accounted for their score. The Westridge vs So. Pas. was a better game in which both Teams had their opportunities. So. Pas. has young players in key positions, and will be a factor in Rio Hondo League this year.

Came back from the Bosco Tech boys soccer game today...Bosco Tech 3, South El Monte 0. The game was over in 20 minutes as the Tigers scored three goals and then starting taking out their top players. This team is 5-0 and will probably be 8-0 heading into the tough Serra tournament. They should be a force in Division VI.

You have to really look at who Monrovia has played before being impressed by a 5-0 record... these can be decieving

I have to say as bad as the boys goalie is that taylor thurman is something else.

I'm impressed with the soccer threads, and it will get better once we get into the league races. Seems to me there is more interest blogging in soccer than hoops, so we'll see how it goes..keep posting those scores.

ya hopefully the blair girls givin a good challenges to rhl teams and also with the guys soccer team..they tied 3-3 against muir yesterday and well blair goalkeeper let 2 goals past through his hands on 2 free kicks...

pete s....that maranatha fprep game was girls....but I agree that the maranatha gir;s team would be even better with aforementioned football players on the squad.

pete s. said:

Maranatha Soccer: Let's just remember as well that Maranatha has at least 5 starters on the soccer team that are still playing this weekend in the CIF championship game. To name a few, Kyle Delahooke, Jared Moberg, Ian Campbell, and Drew Noonan. Good things to come for Maranatha this year.

sp soccer fan said:

SP just lost to marshall, but just barely. 2-1, and lets say the ball bounced marshall's way, as they scored off of two free kicks, one just barely going over the goal keeper (who was not ready for the shot) and the other being cuahgt by the goalie, but then rolling in.

This SP team looks to compete with the best of them, once they get a real goalie, only problem is a very weak bench.

Tiger Soccer said:

South Pasadena Boys Soccer lost 1-2 to Marshall Fundamental. Marshall scored both goals in the first half both by #21 Caesar Barajas #21. Both were on free kicks, South Pas scored their goal in the first half also. Mark Stochl #16 scored the goal off of a corner kick. South Pas clearly dominated the game had 5 shots to maybe 2 from Marshall. SPas had 4 corners to Marshalls 3.

JohnM said:

Maranatha 7, Flintridge Prep 1
Key players missing from Flintridge Prep would have made a difference but probably not six goals! Maranatha DEFINITELY a top ten area team.

JohnM said:

Fred...add to the scores:
Flintridge Prep 3
Miliken 0

Fprep 4-1 without the area's top goalkeeper. Only loss to Monrovia in the Duarte tournament.

Maranatha plays host to Flintridge Prep today at 3:00.

Get used to writing Shirk's name... she's the real deal, along with the rest of her outstanding freshman class... and one of the reason's why Randy Medina remains confident in his team after the graduation losses of last year. As the season progresses, the Fab Freshmen will only get better.

Cant say the game was very pretty but sp definately controlled the game just couldnt put it away

Remember LaSalle still has key soccer players, playing football.....for instance the Goalie...but I bet the same (Marshall)team could not win later on in the season...

Fred, thanks for the recap of the Duarte Tournament. Monrovia did look goof but F-Prep is missing its ODP goalkeeper due to injury or that game would have likely been a 1-1 draw.
