why do all of the negative complainers post as "anonymous?"

goteamgo,

For your information, I never questioned the support of parents going to their kids soccer games. I think that all parents should support their kids, regardless of the the sport or how few points are scored or if anyone cares who wins or loses. Probably my main beef with soccer is the AYSO. This whole "soft" approach is fine with me, just as long as it stays with soccer but many parents try to bring that (you know what) over and apply it to a TRUE American Sport like Baseball, where we try to teach kids the valueable lessons of how to win and lose with Grace. AYSO gets it wrong and says that there are no winners or losers. Also, Soccer is an Amateur sport in the United States.! Nobody (That Speaks English as their primary language) Cares about Professional Soccer in this Country!!!!

Now...That being said...If you know someone on the team. If you support a school in the area and you can bear sitting around for a couple of hours waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.......and waiting for 1...2 or maybe no score.....Oh....that's right...or is it Nil??

Then go to a Soccer game!!

I'll just wait to hear the results from Fred and tell the kids at the school I support ...Good Job...Good Job....Then i'll go the the Football game or the Basketball Game or the Baseballl Game or anything else that I can find that's truely entertaining and most importantly AMERICAN!!!!

Take Care Soccer Fan
God Bless The U.S.A.!!

Fred...you don't owe anyone an explanation about your coverage. There are only so many column inches and writers available.
If the cry babies who complained about the Glendale tournament coverage wanted their ego boosted they could have faxed over a paragraph or two along with the line and I'm sure you guys would have printed it.

I think those of you who say the Star-News doesn't like to cover soccer haven't followed our coverage the past five years. The holiday season is difficult because we're taking days off, but once the league season rolls around, we typically cover two to three games a week. My only regret is that we didn't cover the final of the FSHA tournament, but the way the tournament was set up made it tough logistically. We didn't know who was going to be in the final until morning round-robin games were played, so we went ahead and covered tournament basketball games.
About this Monrovia bias, there is no bias. We covered them more than anyone last year because they wound up playing for a title. We covered Arcadia boys soccer more than anyone, because they played for a title. When the Arcadia girls soccer team was dominating my first three years here, we covered them all the time.
I can tell you based on winter tournament and nonleague results that Monrovia, La Salle, Maranatha, Pasadena and Westridge girls soccer deserve some early January coverage. That's how it works. Any questions?

Dear anonymous,
I am one of the "nobodys" you posted about and I don't recall electing you to represent our constituency. All I can say is, speak for yourself. Although one does wonder;
If you truly didn't care, why would you read about soccer at starnews.com/prepsports, go to the separate web page with soccer blogs, read through them, then take the time to comment.
Looks to me like you are pretty interested in how soccer is progressing.
Hmmmmm...perhaps your perception that nobody cares about soccer is correct, to a degree, when compared to the sports of boys basketball and football.
But, far more kids play recreational youth soccer today than any other sport and that means far more parents watch soccer.
That translates into people being interested in local soccer. Speaking for myself, I don't care that much about local boys football or basketball but I am interested and hope to see our local school win.

This conversation is all well and good but in the end, all we are really talking about here is SOCCER!!! I mean COME ON!!! I can under stand why the Star News does not want to cover it because NOBODY (Who speaks English and does'nt have kids playing the game) even CARES!!!! GET OVER IT SOCCER FAN!!! or move to a country where it IS popular and they call it FUTBAL or something like that. Just listen to sports talk radio during the day. How much time do they devote to Soccer?
Nobody cares who wins or loses anyway. Just look at AYSO; that will show you that nobody cares who wins.

Tom S....I've seen Maranatha play twice and also saw one of the four goals scored on a keeper error. Like it or not there are several vulnerable spots on the field....and the schedule hasn't been filled with teams having great seasons. The fact that they have allowed only four goals is likely due to a lack of opponent shots than great keeper play...it will be interesting to see what happens as the competition gets tougher. Lot of great kids and parents on that team....it would be nice to see them notch a CIF championship before increasing enrollment forces them up a couple of divisions.

I profess that I know little about high school soccer but I’m a big stat hound so your remark “overall team speed and goalkeeping could be challenges down the road doesn’t make sense to me. When I see that in 12 games, Maranatha’s goalkeeper’s have only allowed four goals, I see nothing to question about that aspect of their game.

JohnM said:

I agree regarding Maranatha girl's soccer team. Very aggressive attack and a great mix of new talent and experience...overall team speed and goalkeeping could be challenges down the road.

Tom S said:

What impresses me about Maranatha’s girl’s soccer so far, beside the record, is they’ve scored 38 goals while only allowing 4 goals to be scored against them.

Maranatha this year have won both the Western Christian and St. Margarets tournaments.

anonymous-lasalle-WOW....I don't know what incident you're referring to regarding the La Salle football locker room and what would that have to do with your girl's soccer team anyway?
With you as the self appointed spokesperson for La Salle no one needs to rag on the school....you do a good enough job making it look bad all by yourself!

Anonymous said:

John M...you really have it in for LaSalle and perhaps the incident that you are referring to happened when your football team vandalized LaSalle's locker room ... You need to grow up and stop ragging on LaSalle..
The girl won fair and square...Now leave them alone!!! There is nothing vile or disrepectful in this comment is there..

JohnM said:

"WOW" "anonymous" and "Lasalle"....why not pick one name and stick with it? You're embarrassing yourself and your school.
First the vile post about Sacred Heart students the other day and now this? Grow up!

If the scores in the LA Times were correct, Notre Dame Sherman Oaks was not 4-0 in the tournament. They were 1 - 0 - 3 during regulation play, 3-0-1 after tiebreakers. Pure wins count the most in soccer and La Salle had the most pure wins.

La Salle was 3- 0 - 1 and FSHA was 2-0-2. After all the tie breakers FSHA and La Salle finished the tournament undefeated ( 3 - 0 - 1). Congrats to La Salle, they earned the championship, but they defeated St. Joes in the final, not FSHA. They haven't beat FSHA since 2001. Maybe the coaches at the two schools should make sure the teams play next season.

Soccer Realist....you might not realize you're dealing with individuals that have a real need to elevate the La Salle name and will not let facts stand in the way.
The school my daughter attends faced La Salle last pre season and the Athletic Director at her school will never schedule the La Salle girls again for reasons that I probably should not discuss here.

Soccer Realist said:

La Salle fans,

Please stop complaining. First of all, you weren't the best team in this tournament. This is what's so ridiculous about soccer. S.O. Notre Dame goes 4-0 in this tournament while La Salle goes 3-1 and La Salle is the champion? Sherman Oaks Notre Dame beats La Salle, and La Salle is the champion? The Lancers can't even score a goal in penalty kicks and they're still champions!?. Notre Dame is the REAL CHAMPION of this tournament. La Salle won on a technicallity. They were awarded the title because they won more games in regulation. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter whether you win the game in regulation or PK's- but for some reason that doesn't matter. Enjoy your title*

*won despite not having best record

JohnM said:

I'm by no means a "FSHA supporter" and I congratulate La Salle on it tournament win this past week but it proves absolutely nothing!
Why is it that every time La Salle wins a game some of its supporters feel the need to boast to the point of being obnoxious? Is the school's self esteem that low?

Anonymous said:

I think I get it now...if Fred's favorite Monrovia team had been in the FSHA tournament, the Star News would have been all over it.

Lasalle said:

For all you FSHA FOllowers i hope this Lasalle win seals some of your thoughts. This win proves them as the best team in the area..... Thanks for presenting us with the championship award it was much appreciated

Why wasn't the final covered as well as the previous games at the HOFMAG Tourney? It's terrible not reporting the final. Poor job by Pasadena Star News again; especially, having a team from Pasadena (La Salle High School - Division 4) win.

There was more news on the consolation game by Glendale News than the final.

It would be great if you started reporting on final matches and not only on matches that are convenient to watch.
