What's going to happen in 2007?

| | Comments (166) |

Yeah, it's way to early to forecast the 2007 prep football season, but so what, we had so much for this year, why not look into our crystal ball and figure out the Star-News preseason top ten eight months ahead of schedule.

1. St. Francis
There were a lot of complaints of how the Knights folded the second half of the season, but when you talk about comparing the Knights to other area teams, how many could beat Los Altos, Burroughs, Saugus and lose by a point to Bishop Amat? The Knights will reload, they always do. I love what they have at the receiver positions with seniors Kyle Wong and Kevin Garcia back along with sophomore sensation Dietrich Riley. Running back Kyle Morgan also will be back for his senior season. Junior Austin Heyworth is listed as a quarterback, so if he can get going, they should have no problem earning the area's top honor.
2. Muir
Yeah, I'm taking the Mustangs at No. 2. Gotta love having senior-to-be Willie Youngblood back. People don't understand how injured he was the second half of the season, and still managed to rush for 119 yards a game. If he was healthy, the Mustangs beat Burroughs and win the Pacific league title. They have to figure out who's going to play quarterback, because they have two super receivers back in Ahmere Owens and Marcus Graves, the brother of UCLA's Ryan Graves.
3. Alhambra
That's right, Alhambra. The Moors finished the season strong, and defeated eventual Southwest champion Schurr in the Almont League finale. And they didn't just beat the Spartans, they pounded them. And they return the best backfield duo in seniors-to-be Dushine Smith and Anthony Brown. They will need to figure out the quarterback spot, but with that backfield alone, they should have another great season.
4. La Salle
Let's just say I'm not sleeping on the Lancers this time! Ryan Doeppel will probably take over at quarterback and they still have stud David Baier in the backfield. This is a team with 14 sophomores on the varsity roster at the end of the season, along with five highly regarded freshman. So, even though they lose some talented seniors, the Lancers are going to be in the thick of it again.
5. Monrovia
This RHL coaches tell me that Monrovia is the team to beat. What else is new? The Wildcats owned the lower levels, and have plenty of weapons ready to replace David Potts, James Davis, Shawn Sparks and Co. Only at Monrovia can a 9-3 record and quarterfinal finish be a huge disappointment. They have, in my mind, one of the best returning receivers in Fernando Gonzalez along with Daro Johnson. The question is who will start at QB, senior James Mijares or junior Richard Kilbury?
6. Temple City
I can tell you right now what's going to happen. Senior Williams Do will emerge as the next Sushi Tsai and Dwight Broadnax. He'll be the horse to carry the ball 40 times a game, and looking how he did the second half of the season, he'll do just fine. He's the biggest back the Rams have had in a while, but the question is the guys up front. Replacing some of those seniors will be tough, but coach Mooney always seems to have one of the area's best O-Lines.
7. Pasadena
2007 will be the year the Bulldogs make the playoffs, and possibly upset Muir. Senior QB Tyron Crockom will likely lead the area in passing, and senior wide receiver Michael Harrison will be his favorite target. They also have senior running back Rashad McCord back and a roster full of juniors returning. I might be low-balling the Bulldogs. Seriously, they have the talent to be super, but like La Salle, I have to see it to believe it.
8. Arcadia
The rumor is that senior-to-be Kevan Walker is moving to quarterback, and coach Jon Dimalante confirmed this week that he will try it out. Running Back Troy Ahmaz will be back, and so too will receiver Eric Willm. The Apaches lose a lot of seniors, but there are a lot of unproven juniors ready to step up.
9. Rosemead
Gotta love having quarterback Paul Wilson returning, along with up and coming junior running back Tra Sumler. This was a young team that still managed to finish in a three-way tie for the Mission Valley League title, despite a 5-6 overall record. Look for them to improve during nonleague action, and win league outright next year.
10. Maranatha
Why not? They earned a top-ten ranking and have senior Mark Love back, along with quarterbacks Alex Clash and Matt Schilz. Wide receiver Robert Sharpe also returns, so don't be surprised if the Minutemen return to the Northeast championship and win it with a year's playoff experience under their belt.
FYI
The Star-News all-area teams are scheduled to be published on Dec. 27. The teams have been selected and are coming into the office this week for pictures. I'd like to thank all of you for your insight on all-area selections. It helped a great deal.

Patrick,
Why do you think SF can't be like Harvard and Loyola in basketball? I remenber when both those schools were extremely weak. There are a ton of great players in the SGV. Just look at what LC is able to accomplish year after year. Look at what SF has done in baseball - I don't know why basketball should be different. Going 0-12 in league last year, starting out 2-5 this year and losing to Maranatha by 17 who lost to Poly. Sorry I don't buy we have one of the best coaches in the CIF - If we did better players would be going to SF - this standard is just too low for SF and me. We need a coach that will attract better talent.

Patrick said:

Goldenknight,

I don't think a complete overhaul of the SF basketball program should be in order. John Jordan is one of the better coaches in the CIF and his teams, most of those with losing records in league the past 5 years, always compete. The Mission League is tough year-after-year and programs such as Harvard-Westlake and Loyola have built a winning tradition years ago. They never rebuild - they reload. Once in a while, Saint Francis will get a solid basketball player in their program (i.e Mike Jenkins), but the Harvard-Westlakes and the Loyolas of the world get that type of player every season.

o&b....Moore is certainly enough of a beast to play at that level but of course when it comes to D1 size is an issue. I know Sherman's brother is at Dartmouth so he might end up there....but don't be surprised if he drops football for Rugby because he's an awesome player and can play the college game at his size. Hirshman also plays Rugby but not consistently due to injuries and other commitments.

Orangeandblue said:

JohnM,
The rumor is that Moore is being recruited by Colorado and Hirshman and Sherman by the Ivies - who knows. Having gone through the recruiting process last year with my nephew in basketball who was recruited by 2 Ivies and UC schools and ended up at a UC school - there is a lot of noise and smoke and mirrors in the system. But it shows the quality of talent at the small schools.

Orangeandblue said:

TomS,
I don't know why Poly doesn't report stats - my guess - it isn't important to them. Some of the big schools like Crenshaw only report at the end of the year and in a grand total format. It is amazing how MaxPrep.com has caught on.

Tom S said:

A couple of questions:
Orangeandblue: Why doesn’t Poly keep stats?
Pete S: ? Any ideas of who they're gonna schedule in the two open spots?? What two teams is Maranatha dropping from our schedule?

JohnM said:

o&b....true about Josh Moore. A very effective lineman on both sides of the ball. Hirshman is a great athlete but seemed kind of injury prone.

Orangeandblue said:

JohnM.
Exactly right. I nominated Sherman for All Area team - but I was shot down because Poly doesn't keep stats and the small school bias (Fred J reconsider - I hate to admit it but while JohnM and I have our differences, he is as knowledgeable as anyone on the blog) - that we have witnessed here. I would taken Sherman over ANY QB in the area this year. I would also have liked to have seen Hirshman and Moore get recognized too (Fred J reconsider) - Hirshman was arguable the second best player on his undefeated 8th/9th grade Pop Warner team behind Lavelle Peterson (some of the big school bloggers may have heard of him). The chuckleheads who put down the smaller schools here will never wake up and realize the talent at these schools. It requires a little thinking/real analysis and they aren't so good at that.

JohnM said:

p finchamp...you might be right about Chadwick. About three years ago they abandoned their middle school flag program and started some sort of tackle program for 7-8 grades....not quite as young as at Rio Hondo but getting the kids familiar with the real game and each other at an early age can only help.

JohnM said:

Orangeandblue: There was no better QB in the SGV this year than Poly’s Stephen Sherman. He is a complete quarterback that would have made the difference for both La Salle and Maranatha. Sherman is only one example of the scores of great athletes that come out of local small schools.

Orangeandblue said:

SomebodyShootMe,
Happy to - except I think I will have to do it after JohnM pulls the trigger a few time. By the how did a big time stud CIF 5A player like you play against obviously beneath you teams like Poly and Prep? BTW, for the record, I think the coaches at Prep, Poly, Maranatha and Rio are excellent and as good as any coach in the area except maybe the TC coach. I really don't think they would be afraid to play anyone in the area. The only major difference of these teams is on the line - the skill positions on average are the same with the exception of a few phenoms like Peterson (from another planet), Yongblood, Broadnax and Davis. The QB, RB, LBs, DBs at Poly as well as many players on the Rio team would have started on most of the bigger schools and that is a fact.

pete s. said:

Here's the deal regarding Bakersfield Christian. Coach Barnett found out the day of their last game that one of their players repeated his sophomore year and was thus a fifth year senior eligibility wise. Barnett, being a man of such integrity, called CIF and notified them of the infraction. More than likely, no one would have been the wiser...but Barnett is solid guy and called it on himself. Kudos to him.
In regards to dropping CSDR and Twin Pines I would agree. Although, there was no real way to know that CSDR would drop so dramatically in a year. The previous two years they were 19-1...whooping teams. MHS thought it would be a good match. Twin Pines, much like the school Kilpatrick is a correctional school...so it's really hit and miss with the teams each year.
Any ideas of who they're gonna schedule in the two open spots?

p finchamp said:

I'm picking Chadwick for 2nd place in the Prep League next year.

That’s great if it’s right. We get to play Poly in the preseason. The only thing is I would rather see us drop Cal School for the Deaf or Twin Pines then Bakersfield Christian. That’s a fun match with former Coach Barnett’s team. BTW, does anyone know why they had to forfeit their wins this past season and end up with a 0 – 10 record?

P Finchamp said:

RHP will be in control of small schools next year. Their line will likely be as big as it has been since I became acquainted with them in 2000, granted there's no one over 240. I will be disappointed if they don't go into the playoffs undefeated.

JohnM said:

SomebodyShootMe said:

You might want to use the preview button there big man, because I'll "start" checking out the middle school kids as soon as your "wits" get crafty enough to post something that might produce what could be called a "yuck" amongst all your intellectual comrades. That was nice tactic though, "I don't need to craft an intelligent response". That's a cute excuse.
If you think I don't know ball, that's fine. I played after HS for four years, I think that's enough.

I'm not being hostile, I just think it's hilarious how seriously you take yourself.

pete s. said:

I heard (obviously someone will have to check it to verify) that Maranatha did indeed place Poly on their schedule for next year. I'm guessing they'll keep Frintridge in week 3, add Poly to week 4, and then keep Rio in week 5 again. This just might give us a small school champion since they're not in the same league.
I know it's early but these are my predictions. MHS over FPrep. Prep's got some good returners and a solid JV program but from the numbers I saw at one of their games--they just do have enough guns for MHS.
MHS over Poly. Loosing 18+ seniors is going to hurt any team, especially at a small school like Poly. They're always well coached and produce more than they should--but again, just don't see them being able to hang with the athleticism of MHS.
MHS over Prep (I know...I know...)
Here's why. Rio is good...that's a given. They're always good and always play like champions. However, Rio sure does loose a lot of fire power. They do return Finchamp and the QB, but their strength has been their line, and I'm not sure about it this year. Meanwhile, MHS has their entire line (plus the 2 starters on line they lost even before Rio) back. They have both Alex Clash and Matt Schilz back at QB. They've got Mark Love and Robert Sharpe back at RB. On paper, they should win. However, we know that hasn't exactly been the case with Rio. Again, I see both teams coming with solid records and giving us a game to remember.
If these four schools were in a league it would go:
1st MHS/Rio
2nd MHS/Rio
3rd FPrep
4th Poly (sorry Poly, but next year is going to hurt)

JohnM said:

I still have to disagree with one word in your statement, “Poly would have EASILY won the Northeast Division?. Yes, Poly might have won Div 13 but not easily. Yes, if Prep league would have been in Div 13 this year then Poly and RHP would have been a couple of the top ranked teams going into playoffs. If Poly and RHP would have been in different playoff brackets than you might have faced each other for the Div 13 championship that is if both of you would have made it through the playoffs.
Sorry but there’s too many ifs and woulds.
Yes, Poly was the strongest small school team in the Pasadena area this year but as Finchamp said earlier and I agree “Even so I believe there was enough talent in these three schools to say any one of them could have bettered the other on any given day.?
So, it comes down too, I’m not going to change your mind and your not changing mine.
Besides, you’ve got enough on your plate with JohnM right now to worry about lowly Maranatha.

If you strapped a balloon to the front of every player's football jersey in this game, half of the balloons would make it to the 4th quarter. I think the coaches from both schools would be scared to play St. Rita's in a ball game. I honeslty think St. Rita's would have a chance. I know this...St. Rita's would out-hit both of these squads. I think this season as previously noted Poly would have won rather easily and my guess it would have been against Rio in the championship game. Notheless, Maranatha had a great year this year too and looks very well position for next year and Poly does not - losing all their top players. But you never know in HS football until they play the games - heck a lot of people thought up until yesterday that Clausen was the best HS QB pospect in So Cal - I am happy SC ended up with Aaron Corp instead - and who thought 0-5 La Salle would go to the championship game this year - I don't think even most La Salle fans thought that.

I like the small school blogger stuff (and the bigger school stuff, obviously). Living in the SGV - I know kids that go to all of them - from Maranatha, Prep, Poly, Rio - going to those games is great fun (I go to about 2 -3 of those games a year) - most kids go both ways and work their tails off. The stars on those teams could play on the bigger schools - alot of them played and starred with the kids at the bigger schools in Pop Warner(Crash, Hirschman and so on). Keep it up small school bloggers(and big school bloggers) Could the stong showing for Peterson and Davis over the weekend maybe get some of these D-1 schools to notice the fantasic talent in this area. I hope gknight is right - he is more optimistic than I - I would really like a SF to be a powerhouse like back in the day.

I just call them as they are. Just like before you started popping off - I said Poly is in for a rough few years - but they do have some sibs in middle school who should return them back to glory. I don't understand why you are so bitter about Poly - did you not get in as a child? Did your childern not get in? Please confess the reason for such resentment and animosity. Then we can deal with it in a healthy manner.

Lavelle Peterson came in 4th out of more than 400 players and the combine before the State Championships on Saturday at the Home Depot Center. I saw a lot of the local talent there doing their thing, but they just didn't have the 40 time or the bench press reps or shuffle time to place in the top five.

Lavelle blew past a lot of our local SGV boys in the 40 and put the bar up 10 more times than any of the local talent. He was mentioned on the channel four news and on Fox between games as bening in the top Five.

I saw some pretty week 40 times because of the drizzle and grass condition and I hope this company comes around again to set this up for the local talent.

They were giving away incredible gift packages and equiptment to coaches who brought more than 19 kids to the combine. It was amazing how much this company was giving away to the programs that were there promoting the players from their school.

I did see one coach from Monrovia along with Davis and I did hook him up at the give away booth but I would have liked to see a lot more coaches from the SGV out there.

Keep working.

Saint Francis will be the best team in the area next year and will not disappoint. They will have the athletes on both sides of the ball like they had in the 05 season. They should finally get a mission league title and compete with Notre Dame. The passing game should be better than last year and the secondary will no longer be a weakness. With no injuries (knock on wood) SF will do big things in 07

The Bowl games were great to see. It is obvious that both De La Salle and Oaks Christian are over rated. It was fantastic to see Cardinal Newman take it to OC. Gutsy game calling and hard hitting football. Too bad Orange Lutheran did not play Canyon, that would have been a great game and De la salle play OC and silence all the hoopla once and for all, but the form of the tournament does not allow for such games. No matter what it is great to see a "State Championship" format in California.

Did anyone catch the results from Saturday's SPARQ competition at the Home Depot Center? L. Peterson fnished 4th overall among 400 athletes. Wonder if that will have any impact on him winning the MVP outright. Davis of Monrovia finished 4th in the Bench press. Glad to see Rio Hondo players representing and showing off their goods.

Lancervideo,
Thanks for the info. and link. The obvious flaw is that Oaks Christian is measured by enrollment....It is very interesting that Orange Lutheran won the Pac-5, but played in the D-2. I wonder if LB Poly would have played in the D-1 had they won the Pac-5. But then what would have happened to Canyon Country.

The state bowl goes by enrollment but the CIF sections do not. This will cause some discrepancies down the road.

Did anybody go to these games?

New York,
The Cal Bowl Divisions are strictly by enrollment. This is a two year experiment, so it might change. Most of the private area schools are in Div. III, and the public ones are in II or I. Duarte is the smallest school in II, while Fillmore was the biggest one in III.
Go to this link,
http://www.cifstate.org/
click on "SoCal Teams by Enrollment", it is a .pdf file.
On the CalPreps.com site you could have followed the rankings of teams that were still in the playoffs, which meant they were eligible for the Bowls.
In Div III, Verbum Dei finished 5th,and St. Margarets 9th.
Try this link:

Wow. These bowl games are pretty interesting. At least the three teams from the southern section beat the teams from the North. Oaks Christian had their first challenge of the season. Canyon solidly beat De La Salle and Orange Lutheran beat Palo Alto.

I hope there is a better defined selection process in the future. Does anybody know the criteria to play in the Division One, Two, or Three game. I think it is a bit of a joke that Oaks Christian was playing in the D-3 game, which on paper is supposedly the smaller school representative. Canyon, who now plays in last year's Division 4, played in the D-1, while Orange Lutheran, the winner of the Pac-5 (last years So.Section D-1) played in the D-2 bowl game. I wonder if Oaks Christian will ever get bumped into St. Bonaventure's league, then they would be in the same Division as Canyon.

Speaking of Canyon, wow! I think last year marked the return of Coach Welch, who lead them to a dominant run in the early 1980's (I think). Now he has two consecutive CIF titles and one state title. I think the Herrington brothers at Hart now have their work cut out for themselves.

I agree and disagree with some of your statements regarding small schools. Maybe some of Small schools should go up against public schools, such as PHS, Muir, M-Town, & Arcadia. Maybe then the small schools can see what is like to play within the SGV.

By the way, it takes lot of guts to clear up on some soft readers. Good job on the psych stuff.

I was just trying to CHANGE the subject from Orange&Blue Face & John-Van DeCamp M a bit toward a more interesting subject such as The State Championship games, such as Oaks Christian, CC Cowboys, Concord De La Salle, Orange Lutheran, Ext.

Psychology works wonders on Bloggers who take a few words to heart. By the way, I did not have to attend some small private school to become a GREAT Person and a Great Leader within HS sports.

Eudephoria (or whatever)shut up and/or recognize that this is often cyclical and occasionally great players and play come from small schools. Eudemonia,

How small is small? La Salle? Oaks Christian? I say that enrollment really does not matter when considering private schools.

Let Maranatha, Poly, Prep, and RHP have their due. Their kids work just as hard and maybe harder than any. Because they are "small" a lot of the kids have to play both sides of the ball. They work their tails off. I'm a public school guy, but at the end of the day I really respect the emphasis that these private schools place on having a strong involvement in both football and academics. I realize I'm going off on a bit of a tangent, but dang. Any school that sponsors a football team has the benefit of the doubt in my book.

When was the last time Poly had a team in any CIF Championship game in any sport? You seem really well versed on Flintridge Prep’s rough 2006 Fall Sports results but tell me about all the recent Panther success at the CIF Championship level.. Don’t spend too much time searching because I can tell you there haven’t been any! Oh, wait a minute, they “should have? won it in football this year. Do you get a ring for “should have?? I’m “slow? and don’t know for sure. Is name calling something you learned at Poly or just part of who you are?

Orangeandblue said:

JohnM,
Wow you are slow and rude to boot. The point - read slowly so you get it - prensented without any bias - just facts - is that Poly would have won the Northeast Division - which I believed you agree with in your previous post. I am not sure where all the resentment and hostility for Poly, Maranatha and the prep league comes from but it is entertaining.

JohnM said:

Orangeandblue: I wasn't aware you had a "point" other than to present your bias as it relates to Poly. And it would be fine with me if Poly never won another game…in any sport.
Let's remember one thing about Maranatha and the "small school" label they are being given. Compared to the real small schools in the area such as Poly and Flintridge Prep (about 400 students each) and Rio Hondo Prep (90 students.), Maranatha with about 600 students and plans to expand to about 800 will need to compete with school's its size and it would follow that things will get a lot tougher for the Minutemen. CIF divisional alignments are revisited every two years so Maranatha has one more year to be a big fish in the small school pond.

Tom S said:

All right so all this talk brings me back to what I posted in October.
It won’t help this year’s speculation but we can crown a Pasadena small school, Div 12 – 13 champions in the future. All it would take for next year is Maranatha to drop either Cal School for the Deaf or Twin Pines in our preseason and add Pasa Poly to our schedule. I don’t know how lock into next years preseason schedule we are. This way RHP, Pasa Poly and Flintridge Prep play each other in league and we face all three schools during our preseason games. We crown a championship team who has the best record playing the other three or if two teams tie then it’s the winner of their game against each other. If three teams tie then a tie breaker take’s over. Coach Murphy, if your reading these posts chime in with your thoughts.

Small school folks--
A good year for the small schools overall. I don't think it is toooo speculative to say Poly was the best of small schools this year. On pure match-ups alone I think you simply have to give it to them. Even so I believe there was enough talent in these three schools to say any one of them could have bettered the other on any given day.

Maranatha would have loved another shot at RH Prep just as RH Prep would have liked another shot at Poly. Sooo we have to wait another year to which I say advantage RHP.

It's all speculative so when I say to you orangeandblue that I think RHP wins the rematch with Poly in the hypothetical D-XIII championship this year you just have to say I don't think so. The Poly guys didn't morph and become dominant over a one year timespan, they beat an RHP team that underestimated them based upon the recent years of victories over them.

JohnM said:

orangeandblue:WAHHHHH!
Hopefully you enjoyed the great football season Poly had in 2006 because it will be its last one in the near future.
I saw the team with the "blonde quarterback" who's name is Jorde Gafne and it was a solid team but nothing special.
Get over the Division realignment....it happened because the Prep League had won three out of the last five Div 13 Titles,
Tom S---The Maranatha vs. St Margaret championship game was a battle of a couple of D-13 leftovers. Maranatha got worked by Rio Hondo and would have likely had the same result vs. Poly.

prep fan said:

Tom S
I agree with orangeandblue, the Poly team this year was very strong. They totally dominated the Rio game and seeing that Rio dominated Maranatha, no doubt that Poly would have crushed the Minutemen. In my opinion, if the Prep League were still in your div. it would be Poly-RHP in the Finals.

TomS said:

Orangeandblue:
Finchamp, if you want to chime in I would like to hear your remarks.
First off Pasa Poly had a good season but you saying you would have easily won Div 13 is absolutely ridiculous.
You had a 9 and 2 record, you forgot the lose to Parker 21-7 in the preseason. You did beat Brentwood in the preseason 47 to 26 and we beat them twice. Yes closer games than you had but during regular season and playoffs. Let’s look at common teams we both played this year. You beat Campbell Hall 42 – 15, Marshall 48 – 14 and Flintridge Prep 42 – 0. We beat Campbell Hall 30 – 0, Marshall 48 – 12 and Flintridge Prep 42 – 12. Pretty close. Yes, the difference would be the games against RHP, they killed us 37 to 0 in the preseason and you beat them 20 to 0 in the game to decide the Prep league championship. The only huge win of your season. Congratulations to you.
Now, onto the playoffs. You got by the 3rd ranked Freelance team, Vasquez 49 – 21in the first round and then got ousted by Notre Dame 55 – 22 in the quarterfinals.
Let’s see, Maranatha got to the championship game and lost to undefeated St. Margaret’s 21 to 20.
So, for you to say you would have had a cakewalk in Div 13, I don’t think so.
Also, hope you enjoyed your season. Looking at your roster and seeing that you’re graduating 19 seniors and have only 3 returning varsity players will make it tough for you over then next couple of season.

Orangeandblue said:

Tom S,
Why is it hard for you to understand why Poly would have easily won the Northeast Division? Poly, (9-1 in regular season and 5 -0 league), destroyed Brentwood (the team you implied they would have a hard time beating) 47 -26 (the game wasn’t as close as the score) and beat Rio at home to stop their 18 game winning streak 20 – 0. Rio destroyed Maranatha 37- 0. Maranatha barely beat Brentwood and lost in the Northeast division final by 1. I know most of star players on both teams and Poly would have crushed Maranatha this year. That is why it is clear to me that Poly would have easily won Divison 13. I don’t get why you would have a hard time understanding that.

The ARROYO KNIGHTS will be the areas most improved team from this season to next... The freshman and JV teams both completely annihilated the MVL this year. Both teams went undefeated in league and left no doubt to who's the big bad boss! Remember, Singiser coached the JV and Varsity Knights this year... Also, the Varsity team went 4-1 in the MVL, only losing to that school in the south by six points, but took a share of that crown too since the south lost to rosemead and ARROYO beat rosemead.. so an overall league record of 14-1, but at ARROYO, even that is not good enough. GO KNIGHTS GO!

I am afraid you may be right a sad .500 at both the JV and Freshman level this year - the best footbal players don't want to play at SF anymore - like back in the day - there is no faith in the program among kids. The program is completely disappointing these days and it is a shame - especially in light of what schools like Orange Lutheran and Notre Dame have been able to accomplish in a much tougher environment . It is time for a complete overhaul of the footbal program (and basketball) at SF or we are in for more of the same in the future.

Monrovia will always have enough talent on campus, we just need to make sure we develop it in the off-season and are focused throughout the season. We will certainly have to reload, but we're in good shape.

I think La Salle will be challenged to replace their line. It seems like that Senior line carried them this season. If they can do that, then I expect them to be good again.

Arcadia is going to be very experienced considering there have about 13 starters returning. Some of those kids play both ways inluding Walker, Picard, Golper, Willm, Fields... Arcadia started a sophomore at fullback, leading the hole for Ahmaz and Gavron this season. Walker will take the reins, leading this team on. If the same Picard comes out next year as he did against Pasadena, this team will be hard to stop. Willm is consistent and we know what you get with Kevan Walker. I believe Troy Ahmaz will be the biggest surprise next year. I'll throw it out there, but I think Arcadia will be in contention with Muir next year for the league title. Experience goes a long way.

I also do see St. Francis being the top team. Talented all across the board. I don't see Monrovia up there though. Muir will be up at the top as well.

I love football.

(I'm probably going to get some NEGATIVE feedback about me throwing Arcadia out there for the Pacific league champ, but thats why this is fun. =])

It will be interesting to see how SF does next year. They have some good younger players that will be filling holes, but their schedule is likely to be even tougher than it was this year. I believe they will play Loyola, Notre Dame, Los Altos, Saugus along a tough Mission League schedule which will take them out to Chaminade in West Hills. I think this year was a transition year for the players and coaches as the team prepared for tougher games weekly, but I think it will pay off. You might be hearing from my friend P. Finchamp on RHP being left off the top ten. He’s already predicting a Prep league championship and with the teams in that league and with Poly graduating so many seniors he’s probably correct.
