Rosemead assistant coach fired
Rosemead football coach Matt Koffler confirmed that defensive coordinator Anthony White has been fired. Koffler said the team is looking to go in another direction. White becomes the second high profile Mission Valley League assistant coach to be fired this off-season. South El Monte assistant Jerry (Gerry?) Urias was fired prior to Christmas break.
White played running back and defensive back at Rosemead and won the high school Heisman Trophy in 1999. He then played for Urban Meyer at Utah before returning to the SGV to start a career as a coach. He led Rosemead's freshman team to the Mission Valley League title in 2004, but received some disdain around the league for allegedly running up scores.
White left after that season to be an assistant coach under Wilson's Robert Oviedo in 2005. He was back at Rosemead this past season after the Panthers lost four assistant coaches during the 2006 off-season. Rosemead's defense had to replace 10 starters going into the season, but still managed to finish in a three-way tie with Arroyo and South El Monte for the MVL title.
Mr. Aram Tolegian chased this down, anyone know of any other assistants shuffling around?

Ok, recruiting is not good and unethical. But, im sure that there is a lot of that going among many schools (coaches) within the SGV. Is sad to see assistant coaches recruiting, but it is even worth when a HEAD coach does it. The way I see it, is like the Yankees paying all that $$$$ for great players and still did not go to the World Series within the last few seasons.
Some HS coaches need to coach, train, and motivate the players that already have to the potential athletes they can be and leave the other great players from other schools alone. Grambling coach Ed Robinson said, "If you dont have great players on your roster, then MAKE YOUR PLAYERS BETTER."
End of Story.

Doubt it was done w/ some class Same rosemead Kolfer that was fired frm the other school because he broke CIF rules for recruiting
Running UP scores is common for young coaches who get caught up in the passion of rival games. Sometimes is pay-back when they played and they got beat by the other team. Anyhow, I agree and disagree on running up scores. I strongly support that the 2nd & 3rd back-ups play early in the game when the score is on its way to a blow-out. I dont agree with passing the ball in the 4th qrt. when your team is up by 35 or more points. I will just run the ball and maybe give it to a linemen to run the ball, NOT! Anyhow, is common for young coaches to run up the score based on my observations. But then again, some coaches from the other teams should not be coaching high school football. There are lot of issues that go through out the season that the bloggers, fans, and parents dont see or seem to understand.
I remember one year when coaching @ TC-JV team, we beat Hacienda Heights WIlson by 30 points or so and their line coach will not shake my hand after the game. He instead gave me the finger and walked away as a coward. I guess they did not expect to lose to TC at their home field. So, the next season game between Wilson & TC-JV was played at TC's home field, and WIlson LOST again and the same coach was still on their team. I will not go into what took place after the game, cuz he lost the first time by not shaking hands. He will live with it.

Not too familiar with Anthony White's coaching philosphy. I know that Rosemead had a couple of good seasons with him there. We (bloggers) will not know what truly took place between Matt & Anthony. But, I think changes are for the good of the team and the captain is always in charge when you are the HEAD Football Coach, as long as an understanding between the AD and the head coach is confirmed. Anyhow, I hope that the decision was made morally and it involved some integrity.
Regarding PHS, White may have a potential to be there or at other schools who need a lift of a competitive teams, such as Blair, Mark Keppel, Hoover, and Marshall.
Wow, this feels like the NFL network for high schools in the SGV.
Go BEARS!!!

Getting rid of a talent up-and-comer simply because he is one would be very short-sided. I really hope that is not the true reason. Bosses/Managers should recruit talented people to work with them, not discourage them.
alot of poeople in community and at skool r saying and ever kofler himself that he deosnt wnt people who want 2 b head coaches on his staff. a lot of people like white and want him to be the head coach and think he is a better coach, so kofler got rid of him so he dosnt have 2 deal with it. hes scared. sucks for rosemead
Burbank's head coach Greg Sobiech was fired yesterday.
I wonder why this guy got fired. Does anybody know?
i fully agree with you on Henry rodriguez. The man taught me and many others how to play football the right way.
Some one told me of this early this week. What a mistake
Sounds like he was too good for lil ol Rosemead
Maybe Pasadena or Marshall a next stop for this young man?
