BASKETBALL: Bulldogs bring home a title while others make us proud in defeat

Pasadena defeats St. Bernard, 79-63, to claim CIF-SS Division II-AA championship.

What you have to admire about this Bulldogs team is they set out on a mission after getting bounced in the second round last year as the top seed, and never gave anyone a chance to upset them in this year's playoffs. They were focused, determined, and weren't going to be denied their first championship since 1995.

Nobody, I mean nobody, thought La Canada would come within 20 points of top-ranked Campbell Hall in Saturday's championship. It was unbelievable to look on the faces of other media members on press row as Adam Malik's game-winning attempt with seconds left fell short. The Spartans eventually fell 61-57 in overtime, but their loss was the talk of the day.

Renaissance Academy's third-straight trip to the finals ended in another loss to Corona del Mar, 67-59. But this one was much different than the previous two blowout losses against Price. The Wildcats are building something special in Flintridge, and without a senior on the roster, they will be back.

No need to hide your faces, it was a terrific season for the Flintridge Prep girls basketball team, who lost to top-ranked Laguna Hills, 57-42 in Saturday's championship at the Pyramid.

La Canada outplayed everyones expectations. They played tough the whole game leading for a good deal of time and sending it into overtime. Hats off to those boys. They played their hearts out and never quit fighting. Good luck in state.

La Canada nearly pulled off the day's best upset before falling in overtime to top-ranked Campbell Hall, 61-57.
Adam Malik, who scored 28 points and went head-to-head with Vikings guard Jrue Holiday (37 points), had a game-winning shot at the right-elbow with two second left, but his the front of the rim.
The crowd was shocked the game was close the whole game. Congrats to LC and coach Tom Hofman, they earned a lot of respect at the Sports Arena on Saturday

Renaissance Academy never trailed by more than eight points, but could never get over the hump, losing 67-59 to Corona del Mar in the Div. III-A championship.
