BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

| | Comments (16) |

Let the playoff predictions begin.
Pasadena, La Salle, Marshall, Maranatha, and Renaissance Academy all have realistic shots of reaching championship games.

Division II-A: This is Pasadena's division to lose. The top-seeded Bulldogs (24-2) might get a test in a potential second-round game against Fullerton (21-6), and there could be a dangerous quarterfinal against Redlands (22-4). But look for the Bulldogs to advance to their second final in three years, and win it all this time.
Division III-AA: At least third-seeded La Canada (24-2) knows it won't be playing Santa Margarita in the semifinals for the third straight season. If the Spartans get that far again, however, six-time V-AA champion Price (23-4) could stand in the way. The Spartans could potentially meet Keppel in the quarterfinals. The Aztecs have a good draw and a real possibility of getting there. There are seven locals in this division, and don't be surprised if at least two reach the quarters.
Division III-A:Renaissance Academy is the No. 2 seed in a division where it feels like it can win it all after consecutive V-AA championship appearances and losses to powerful Price. Nobody wants to face the Wildcats in this division, and based on nonleague and tournament victories, this No. 2 seed is legit. I'm picking Renaissance to win it all.
Division IV-A:La Salle (21-5) earned the No. 4 seed and has a great draw. You can mark them straight through to the semifinals with a potential matchup against top-seeded Twentynine Palms (24-2) in the semifinals. This would be a rematch the Lancers would love to have after losing to them earlier in the season. The Lancers could potentially meet Pasadena Poly in the quarterfinals.
Division V-AAMaranatha (17-8) earned the top-seed and Marshall (18-7) is No. 6. Here's hoping for a semifinal clash between two local rivals, and if that happens, I'm going with Marshall after losing twice previously to Maranatha. There has been internal struggles at Marshall, but if everyone is healthy and they put their petty issues aside, they could win a championship with the best player in the division in Shawn Benn.

I concur that Meridith along with the New York Public Library would be the most effective of 2009. My Minor Pony, not a lot. Having said that, th is was a reliable roundup of very best and worst, however.

RA fans. Stop with comparisons of school size and the whining. Yes, you have 60 kids, but most of them are there to just play basketball. Sid is a good coach, but he has been a better recuiter.

Enrollments:
Renaissance ~60
Laguna Hills ~1900
Paloma Valley ~3200
Santa Fe ~2800

Pretty amazing. I'm sure these schools get 60 kids to simply try out for varsity hoops. Congratulations again to coach Sid and the Wildcats!

I think this is a blessing for Renaissance. At home or on the road, they should beat Laguna Hills, then they will likely be at home in the second round, which is more important.

amazing how renaissance has the #2 seed yet does not get a bye AND does not get a home game in the 1st round. they are maligned for being in a weak league the last few years, they do something about it and then are given unpreferable treatment in the seedings. i hope they win it all since the team works so hard and has to go through so much adversity.

Good luck to monrovia boys basketball team. It was hard to lose the game to la canada and then have to play south pas. But I've seen shurr play ball in the pass and they are pretty good, but if the wildcats play good defense like they did in the 2nd half against la canada they might be able to pull an upset
