BOYS SOCCER: Marshall and La Canada are a game away from squaring off in Div. V championship. Cross your fingers, this would be special.

BOYS SOCCER
Tuesday's games
Semifinals
Division V
Bassett (18-3-2) at Marshall (15-4-3), 3 p.m.
The Eagles are in a great position to advance to their first soccer final in school history after defeating San Gorgonio, 2-1, in double overtime on Friday. Bassett is the Montview League champion, but they were fortunate to defeat Arroyo, 1-0, in the quarterfinals. Arroyo was without its best striker, who was red-carded in the previous game against Pasadena Poly. Arroyo outshot Bassett, 12-5, but Bassett won it on a penalty-kick in the second minute.
La Canada (14-6-2) at Salesian (20-2-1), 3 p.m.
The Spartans have walked a tightrope in the playoffs, winning two games in overtime and another by a goal over Carpinteria (2-1) in the second round. They have a much tougher road to the finals than Marshall, having to to take on the No. 3 seed, who has cruised to the semi's with a 4-0 win over Azusa, a 2-0 win over Santa Paula, and a 3-1 win over Filmore in Friday's quarterfinals.

Go La Canada!
Marshall will be at home on Tuesday in the semifinals against Bassett while La Canada hits the road to take on Salesian...
I understand Fred, although I know wednesday was a little lighter in schedule...
But I appreciate you adressing the issue with honesty and sincerity. If the same comment would have been made to Aram he would have moaned and whined.
Another Tech, I understand your concern, but look at Friday for example, we have six boys basketball playoff teams, three boys soccer, and a girls water polo. All of these teams deserved to be covered, whether they're home or away. But between myself, Scott and Andrew, and the only five stories we're allowed to produce because of space constraints, what are we supposed to do? Some teams are going to be left out. I wish there was more we could do, but we do the best we can, and attempt to cover the schools that we think serves our entire readership best. Each playoff season is different, the more teams eliminated the easier it is for us to focus on the teams that are left. This year has been the craziest in the five years I've been here. I've never had this many teams remaining so deep in the playoffs. I feel terrible we can't cover everyone, but those are the cards we've been dealt.
I understand about being understaffed (believe me, if you worked at the Tech you'd know) but now that it's the playoffs and you're down to 5 local teams you think a team that has a good draw and as good a shot as any to make the finals should get a little more pub then they've been getting.
Hey Star-News,
Check out local boys soccer headline:
ARROYO ADVANCES! Knights enjoy trip to Pasadena Poly, return to North El Monte victorious, 3-1. Advance to Qtr. Finals on Friday Feb. 23rd.
Hey, if Mountain View did it... ARROYO CAN TOO! Devoted head soccer coach Jorge Ramirez is a FAITHFUL and DEVOTED KNIGHT and an excellent spanish teacher. You deserve it Senor Ramirez and ARROYO BOYS VARSITY SOCCER! GO KNIGHTS GO!
La Canada beat Carpinteria
Does anyone know the final score of the La Canada/Carpinteria game? Thanks.
Bosco Tech Wins over malibu in a game that seemed to go toward Malibu's side since malibu scored against the Tech in the first 15 seconds.
Tech Hung in to game at 1-1. The game later went to Overtime, In the second 10 minute halve Bosco Techs Forward Dean Rowley went for a Shot that Hit and deflected off of the crossbar which he then headed in for the lead.
Bosco Tech scored once more on a PK which sealed the deal with little time left in the final Overtime period.
Bosco 3
Malibu 1
Bosco is now 18-4-1
goes on to play either Montclair Prep or Viewpoint in the Quarterfinals
The SF vs. Servite game was a good one. They battled to a 0-0 deadlock after a first half mostly dominated by SF. Servite was a different team in the 2nd half and shots on goal were roughly equal between the two teams. The refereeing seemed to favor SF most of the game.
I'd take issue with anonymous however on the lucky goals--I didn't see it that way, they were all earned. SF turned it up a notch and responded well after being scored on by scoring shortly after giving up goals to Servite.
Much of my focus was on Posthuma who didn't fair well in calls made by the ref. He was "guilty" of beating another player to the ball and getting a clean strike on the ball but he knocked the Servite player over and got carded--a poor call. Then after their second goal he and another SF player went into the goal to retrieve the ball and get things going again. A Servite player tried to take it from them and the ref saw it as a scuffle or something and carded Posthuma again. Nick could play soccer another 20 years and probably never have two calls assessed on him like that again.
Servite 4 - SF 2
some questionable calls and lucky goals
Nobody said we're not covering Tech, I've included them in the rankings all year, we talk about Tech on the blog, and Andrew has covered them twice, which is twice more than a lot of centrally located schools. We haven't even had a chance to cover the Pasadena Poly boys soccer team this season, which we will today against a trib school, which gives us a crossover opportunity.
During the winter we cover 25 schools with varsity boys and girls basketball, soccer and girls water polo teams. Do the math, that's more than 30-40 games a day and maybe 15-20 on light days. We only have two full-time staffers to cover games, and we're fortunate we have Andrew, who is the best correspondent in the world to help out.
Sorry if that doesn't seem fair, but that's how it is.
I meant west of the 605, sorry.
So what "area" do we fall in Fred? The Trib won't cover us, cuz we're north of the 605. We're not a Whittier area school. Are we in some unknown zone all to ourselves?
I can understand this year not covering the basketball team, but in the past years Bosco had one of the top teams in the area and got no love from the paper.
Good point, but Rosemead competes in the Mission Valley League with other local schools like Gabrielino, and crossover schools with the tribune, which is our sister paper. This is what you don't understand, we share stories with the Tribune, so there are going to be more opportunities to write about Rosemead. I don't expect you to understand this, but that's how it works. I don't know how much you expect us to cover Bosco Tech, but Campa covered a couple soccer this year, and if we have another opportunity in the playoffs, we'll cover them again.
Amen brother!
That's a cop-out Fred and you know it.
You cover schools like Rosemead even though nobody in Rosemead even buys a Star-News, it's mainly a Tribune area. Yet, a large portion of kids at Bosco come from San Gabriel, Temple City, San Marino, South Pasadena- the "heart of your coverage area" so to speak. It just seems like you make exceptions when you feel like it and hide behind your coverage area demographics when you don't. Just be fair, that's all I ask.
What's the difference who covers the game? I let Campa cover more games on that side of town because he lives near there. If you're wondering why we don't cover Bosco Tech as much as other schools, it's because the school is barely in our coverage zone. We cover Bosco whenever possible, but the tradtional schools in the heart of our coverage area get priority.
Hey Fred,
Let me take a guess- the Bosco Tech boys team isn't going to get any coverage again this week, are they?
At least it was nice to meet Campa on Saturday. He seems willing to travel to Rosemead for a story- why not you? Ever?
