BASKETBALL: Oh My, Pasadena, La Canada, Renaissance Academy and Flintridge Prep all advance to championship games

CIF-SS SCHEDULE
BOYS BASKETBALL
Saturday's CIF Championships at the Honda Center in Anaheim
Division II-AA
Semifinals
St. Bernard (21-10) vs. Pasadena (29-2), TBA
The top-ranked Bulldogs have stormed into the final, winning all four playoff games by more than 20 points, and with the dominant one-two punch of Nigel Ajere and Trevon Harmon, who also have a supporting cast of players that would be standouts anywhere else. The Bulldogs will play the role of Goliath, facing a team that hasn't won a single-game in the playoffs by more than five points and one that finished third in the Del Rey league. St. Bernard advanced by defeating No. 7 Arroyo Valley 57-52. The Bulldogs are hoping for their first title since 1995, and their first under coach Tim Tucker, who took the Bulldogs to championship games in 2002 and 2005.
Division III-AA
Semifinals
La Canada (28-2) vs. Campbell Hall (28-1), TBA
Amazing job by the Spartans, knocking off eight-time defending V-A champion Price, 60-57, in the semifinals to advance to their first championship game since 1992, when they won it all. Now, close your eyes because you may not want to see what I'm going to write about their opponent. Hofman noted that Campbell Hall might be the best team in the state. Campbell Hall opened the playoffs with a 109-50 win over New Roads, followed by wins over Oaks Christian (99-34), Savanna (78-30) and Oak Park (74-35) in the semifinals. The Vikings' only loss came against St. Andrews of Rhode Island, 79-77, and they have truly one of the best players in California in 6-foot-4 junior Jrue Holida, who averages 22 points and nine rebounds.
Division III-A
Renaissance Academy (27-1) vs. Corona del Mar (21-7), TBA
You have to take your hat off to Wildcats coach Sid Cooke, who took a nothing program and turned it into a team that is playing in their third consecutive divisional championship, and with a realistic chance of winning it all. The Wildcats were blownout in their two previous V-A championship appearances against eight-time defending champion Price. But the move up to III-A has been a blessing. The Wildcats will face a Sea Kings team that has won ten straight games, but for a chance, you have to consider the Wildcats the favorites to take home a title.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Division IV-A
Championship at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach
Flintridge Prep (25-3) vs. Laguna Hills (24-4), TBA
Classic No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. The No. 2 Rebels advanced with a 48-45 victory over No. 3 Beaumont while top-ranked Laguna Hills defeated Sierra Vista, 62-48.

anyone know the exact location of the LC - Price game?
Congrats and good luck to Sid Cook and Renaissance. He has done an incredible job in such a short time.
I'll check with Keith, I believed parents have purchased copies from him. But you're right, we're lucky to have Birmingham whenever he's available. He covers all the pro sports in town for us, including UCLA and USC.
Wow, Keith Burmingham's pics of the Maranatha/Linfield game were amazing! I felt as though I was there. You could feel the emotion of the game. I couldn't make it but, I felt the emotion. As the kids would say, Keith you were "Ballin".
Just wondering, is it ever possible for parents or even the schools to get copies of pictures from the PSN photographers?
THIS JUST IN:
Pasadena won the coin flip over Murrieta Valley and will host the semifinal game on Tuesday at Muir.
--------
La Canada wasn't as fortunate. Eight-time defending champion Price won the coin flip and the home site, which hasn't been settled yet. If anyone finds out where this game will be played, post it.
Fred J,
Answer to your question - Yes.
Twentnine Palms 66, La Salle 45 (41-19 at halftime)
Linfield Christian 62, Maranatha 44
Dena rolls again!!! 71 - 47 Onto the semi-finals. ADENA HIGH HEY!!!
Is it asking too much to hope for a La Canada-South Pasadena semifinal showdown?
I was impressed with South Pas' energy against Windward in the quarters, and they have a group of players that compliment each other well. I wouldn't be surprised if they give Price a game. I saw Price crush Renaissance in the championship last year, but they lost eight seniors from that team. They're still good even in a rebuilding year. But they're not the monster we've seen in recent years.
Weather forcast for tonights game SP vs. Price: Raining threes ALL NIGHT!!!
Fred, you have Winward vs So Pas, but it is Price vs So Pas on Friday, as stated in the text
South Pas and Price? Price is only the eight-time defending V-A champions with five state titles since 2000. They haven't lost a CIF-SS divisional playoff game since 1999 and blew out Renaissance Academy in the last two title games. Good luck Tigers, you're our Hoosiers hometown story.
never mind Monrovia 46 Oak park 54
Good look to la canada and south pas in the qtr. finals
Yeah did monrovia win last nite???
wow the south pasadena game was amazing last night! with some clutch shots by south pasadena, they were able to come out with a W. Watch out Price, this team is gonna give you a run for your money!
Sorry LC Faithful;
I work in the 310 and I was just trying to support the 310 a bit. My heart is always with SGV, specially PHS... I wish LC luck.
DAWG
Did Monrovia advance in boys basketball?
is the la salle game a neutral site or is it allllll the way in twentynine palms?
The South Pas game was amazing, Denzel Washington was sitting high in the bleachers to watch his son Malcolm play for Windward.
Joshua Parish banked in a free-throw with 1.7 seconds left to win it for the Tigers, who host eight-time champion Price on Friday.
Coin flips tomorrow for Pasadena, La Canada, Maranatha, and Renaissance Academy.
La Salle boys on road at Twentynine Palms on Friday.
Wow, when was the last time we had this many teams alive this late in the playoffs
are there any more scores for the basketball games tonight?
where is la salle playing friday?
Marshall lost 54-53...
Maranatha won 73-58...
Nice win for South Pas tonight. When Windward thought they had the game won with 7.4 seconds left in the game, the Tigers (21-9) never gave up and were able to win the game with basket plus the foul. You have made the city of South Pasadena proud! GOOD LUCK ON FRIDAY!!!!
la salle hung on to win tonight by 1
Maranatha Boys basketball won tonight! bring on this Friday's opponent!
I was at the SP game and it was amazing denzel washington kid was on the other team and he played great. SP won with 1.8 seconds left. anyone have any other scores? Did LC win. WHy doesn't the Pasadena Star news have a score board like they do for the football playoffs?
south pasadena beat windward, i think the score was 53-52
La Salle Lancers will take care of VC, and are looking forward to a rematch against Twentynine Palms on Friday in the semis.
La Canada goes to Santa Monica based who had a home game before. If both teams had away or home games, then a coin flip determines where the game is played. Records have nothing to do with it.
LC faithful is right on this, I mean we get no love from the LA times so for you to go the 310 route is kindof messed up but then again those teams west of us in the pasadena area are no joke thats why they get all the love you know. If la canada gets this win I won't be mad, it would be nice for LC and Monrovia to get past this second round. Dont know if it will happen but we'll see I guess
Dawg,
Are you kidding me? you are rooting for the 310 - come on! I root for Pasadena when they are playing anyone from the westside. It is bad enough we have to put up with the LA Times disrepecting the Eastside - do we really want to turn on our own?
GO CROSSROADS!!!
Represent SM over LC.
Beat them LC kids.
Why in the world does LC have to go to Santa Monica when LC's record is so much better than Crossroads?
