LCCUB: Your comment earlier about it'll be five years before the likes of Maranatha beating St. Francis in basketball or football---well, hate to tell you but St. Francis already lost to Maranatha earlier this season 82-65.

Now...to be completely honest, it will be at least five years before they can even compete with you in football though.

Mooney would be great at SF.

FB realist,
And why is it none of the elite football players end up at SF - just more excuses. SF is a beautiful campus, fantastic facilities (thank you country-wide), convient freeway wise, good academics in a nice community. There is no excuse for ND and Loyola for too have such superior programs.

Boy St. Francis fans,

You guys are starting to sound like Bishop Amat fans. I understand there is a certain frustration with getting close, like reaching the semi's twice, and not winning. But aren't you guys forgetting how much of an accomplishment it is just to get to the semis? Perhaps you may consider that a "lowering of standards" but what other big school (not counting RH Prep) in this area has been as successful as SF?

Now I'm not an old-school SF fan, so I'm not familiar with the glory days of SF, but why do you keep on comparing your team with that of Loyola? I understand that SF has a rivalry with Loyola that is very applicable in most other sports (soccer, basketball, baseball, etc.) but you can't compare each other's FB program.

One team is in D-I and the other is in D-III. As far as S.O.N.D. goes, you give Bonds Rodney Glass and some of the talent that that school has produced in the last couple of years and see if his coaching improves. It takes talent and St. Francis hasn't had a standout athlete in football in quite some time.

The only area guy I think that could duplicate or surpass Bonds in his accomplishments over the last few years is TC coach Mooney. The only coach I would can Bonds for in this area is Mooney. I'd like to see what he'd do.

when and where is the Elks tourney - when Poly plays M-town? seeing the 2 best pitchers in the area is too good to pass up.

GK76 said:

gknights,
I hope you are right - but you wont be - you will be back making excuses at the end of next season - the program is in free fall.
SF has gone backwards and I am one SF fan who is sick of the excuses "SF plays in a hard league", "the players got hurt", "we went to the semi two years ago" - yea. The best one is "Loyola takes all our good players" - Gee I wonder why? Why does ND kick our ass every year then. In my day ND could not touch us. Heck now we are afraid to play them. If having the best QB and the best players in the area and the team loses 6 of the last 7 shows the coach "knows football and know how to win" and the few wins largely coming against foothill league type teams - only shows how low the expections have become at SF. Now let's talk about that great SF basketball program. Is there anyone paying attention in the SF administration?

How in the world did a Bonds thread break out?

gknights said:

First off Bonds is an awesome coach who knows how to win. The reason why the team struggled at the end of the season is this years schedule was extremely difficult and it took its toll on the players with many of us playing injured. He took his teams to the semi finals two seasons in a row before this year. Most importantly his players love playing for him. So he is not going anywhere cause next years team is going to bounce back and shut everyone up.Secondly SF has to compete with other schools but the main one is Loyola who takes alot of talent away. Finally to say that La Salle and Maranantha will be better in football is completely ridiculous those would not even be games and every one knows that.

LCCUB said:

I think it is only a matter of time until Maranantha and LS both pass by St. Francis in both football and basketball - say 5 years. St. Francis has completely lost its edge and the admin is asleep at the switch and no one seems to care.

GK76 said:

If Bonds can't handle it - he should move on and soon. More seasons like the last few and I am going to stop my annual giving.

goldenknight said:

Exactly why would anyone kill to have Bonds as a coach?

Anonymous said:

SF competes against two other schools and who would that be? LCHS and CVHS give me a break - it is more than passed time for a change. Everyone is wrong but you and Bonds. As an alum I am tired of it. When I went there we didn't have such low standards.

Prep FB Realist said:

What is it about coach Bonds that you ungrateful St. Francis people detest? Other schools in this area would kill to have a coach like Bonds and too many of you spoiled St. Francis alums don't give the guy any credit.

SFHS plays in a tough league and even tougher division. The school just doesn't get the talent that others do, but can you really blame Bonds? Even in La Canada, SF is competing with two other HS football schools for talent. Get off the guy's back already.

St Frasncis needs a new coaching before they return to passed glory. The facilities aren't going to matter until then.

Just so I can't be accused of "speaking with fear" I would like to claim credit for the last post.

Maranatha needs to get over itself....big time!

goldenknights said:

Maranantha can never speak of being the top school . St. Francis already has the facilities maranantha dreams about and they compete at a much higher level of athletics and academics. Also the campus is truly second to none including marantha.

Only those who speak with fear, list their post as "Anonymous". It's true that Maranatha is a "Small School" right now but they are getting bigger every year. They are also building a reputation for athletics and sports facility that when everything is complete, will not be matched in the area. Sort of sounds like Oaks Christian a bit huh??

Next time try revealing who you are and we will all know who's afraid of the rising star of the area known as Maranatha.

Fred,
Thanks for the props on the RHL basketball teams that advanced pasted the first round. South Pasadena is actually 20-9. The only reason I am bringing this up is because it has been awhile since they won 20 games. Good luck to all of the RHL teams in the next round!

Hard to tell here you’re coming from. Look at these previous posts. First off your think softball is boring and then like girls’ softball. Fred, what’s up with this dude?

I like girls softball and the season is only a few weeks away. If we can blog about soccer we can certainly blog about softball.

Baseball and softball blogs are coming soon. The year kicks off a week from Friday, Pasadena Poly agaisnt Monrovia in the opener of the Elks baseball tournaments. Two of the area's best pitchers opening the season, Poly's Rasmussen and Monrovia's McKiernan.

Fred how about starting a blog about girls softball?

Maranatha's a nice little small school story, so applaud yourselves for being the best small school program this year, beating out the pas poly's, rh preps, flint preps, etc...(We don't need to compare you to the big boys do we? But even by small school standards, Maranatha's plays in the weakest divisions. And remember what happens when you go head to head with other local small schools, you fall like the rhp football game. So go ahead, bring us home some div 20 championships.

Tom S said:

Man, talk about some bad luck when it comes to the coin tosses, Maranatha better have the school buses gassed up and ready to travel. On Tues the boy’s basketball team travels to Murrieta and the girl’s soccer team goes to Big Bear and on Wed the girl’s basketball team travels out to Thousand Oaks. So boys and girls get rested up and ready for some long trips.
This brings up a subject I’ve posted about in the past. Are there any other local schools that are having such accomplishments in their athletics program? After the successful fall sports run, boys and girls cross country, girls volleyball and of course our runner up CIF championship football team, three of the four winter teams are enjoying success in the playoffs. The boys and girls basketball teams playing in the quarter finals and the girl’s soccer team going into the second round.
