GIRLS HOOPS: Flintridge Prep, Maranatha hope to reach championship games on Saturday while Muir and Monrovia travel in quarterfinal showdowns
BELOW: That's Mustangs defense

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Saturday's games
Division I-A
Quarterfinals
Muir (26-1) at San Clemente (23-5), 7:30 p.m.
The Mustangs travel to deep Orange County for the second consecutive playoff game, and put their 19-game winning streak on the line against the dangerous Tritons, who defeated Palos Verdes, 59-47, in the second round. Early in the season, the Tritons nearly upset the division's top-ranked Hart, losing, 50-48. The Tritons are balanced, with three players averaging in double figures.
Division II-AA
Quarterfinals
Monrovia (20-4) at Diamond Ranch (26-1), 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers' only loss came against Bishop Montgomery, 66-57. But don't sleep on the Wildcats, who have lost twice to Muir and another to Bishop Amat, so there is nothing they haven't seen as far as quality teams. If the Wildcats hope to win, however, they must stop the division's top player in Nina Earl, who averages 21 points and six rebounds.
Division IV-A
Semifinals
Flintridge Prep (24-3) at Beaumont (24-3), 7:30 p.m.
The No. 2 Rebels take a 15-game winning streak on the road after disposing of Murrieta Calvary Chapel, 52-40 in the quarterfinals. Beaumont, No. 3, should be the Rebels' toughest test in weeks. They own a 14-game winning streak after defeating University, 56-47, in the quarters.
Division V-AA
Quarterfinals
Maranatha (19-10) at Whittier Christian (22-6), 7:30 p.m.
The No. 6 Minutemen have done well to advance to the semifinals, but they will have their hands fulll against top-ranked and league foe Whittier Christian. The team's split during league action, with Whittier Christian winning 39-35 the first time, and Maranatha returning the favor with a 27-25 win at home on Feb. 2.

No big deal Fred...just a little dig. The school may only have 400 students and be on the edge of your coverage area but it does make some noise oocasionaly.
Good one Prep, but I believed we did cover both Fprep games against Westridge (yes, I covered the first gmae) and the Rebels' quarterfinal game. In the semis, what could we do? I had to go to Monrovia and our other reporter had to go to Muir, which for the Star-News, are more prominent games. It would have been nice if Flint Prep had called in a box score so we could write something up, but we never got a call.
Although no one who reads the Star News would know this, Flintridge Prep girl's defeated Beaumont 48-45 last night to reach the CIF Finals.
Since they are the only area girl’s team left standing, Fred may want to send a token reporter out to the game. or Fred, how about if you just pretend La Salle is playing and cover it yourself?
The score was not listed because Maranatha didn't call the score in the way other schools do to get scores in the paper. We also didn't cover Alverno at home, it was simply a matter of not having enough bodies. We had four soccer games and four basketball games on Wednesday so some local teams were left out. And with Maranatha on the road, we simply didn't have anyone to send. But if Maranatha had called in the results, we would have been able to write something up. If it's any consolation, we should have a writer for their semifinal at Whittier Christian.
Fred,
Question?
If you were so surprised that the Lady Minutemen got a far as they did to play La Reina. And you thought La Reina would be too much for Maranatha. Why was there absolutely no coverage in the Star-News about there game?
The score was not even listed.
How about a little love for the "Surprising" Lady Minutemen!
way to go girls....
Minutemen over La Reina 51-41. Not that big of a surprise.
thanks finchamp I hope I get a chance to go to the game. Who do you have in the game fred is Edison really good. And is diamond ranch good without those twins that everyone knows about
Philly B
Edison, an arch rival growing up. 405 fwy south of 605 about 8/9 miles exit Brookhurst or Magnolia and head toward the beach. It's on Magnolia on the left.
Monrovia would have to win a coin flip to get Diamond Ranch at home. If Diamond Ranch loses to Oaks Christian, the Wildcats would be at home assuming they defeat Edison.
Huntington Beach Edison
I guess this can be answered by fred or anyone else that knows the answer. Where exactly is Edison, I know its in the OC but I would like a little more info, then what I know. Like what FWY is close by the school etc. etc. Also IF monrovia wins against edison they'll be home against Diamond Ranch???? Hows' that work???
