WHAT A PLAYOFF SEASON....

| | Comments (28) |

Re-alignment has been great for the West San Gabriel Valley. When was the last time we had six boys basketball teams, four girls basketball, three boys soccer, three girls soccer, and a water polo team still alive this deep in the quarterfinal and semifinals rounds of the CIF-SS playoffs. You're keeping us busy, but it's a lot of fun. Good luck, and keep on representing the WSGV! Any guess as to how many of these teams will reach championship games?
Boys Hoops: Pasadena, Maranatha, La Salle, Renaissance Academy, South Pasadena, La Canada
Girls Hoops: Monrovia, Flintridge Prep, Muir, Maranatha
Boys Soccer: La Canada, Marshall, Bosco Tech
Girls Soccer: La Salle, Maranatha, Westridge
Girls Water Polo: Tempe City

ARROYO was controlling the ball nearly the entire game against Bassett, but had the strong force of the wind working against them in the second half of their playoff game. ARROYO was actually the better team, and missing their best scorer, but Ramirez and the KNIGHTS have everything to be proud of and they brought ARROYO it's first MVL Championship in Boys Soccer this decade. GO KNIGHTS GO!

Let's not forget about wrestling.

Monovia goes to CIF Duels for 3 strait year and also sends 12 (out of possible 14) wrestlers to CIF with 2 wrestlers (Hoopes & Zepeda) advancing to the CIF Masters.
And La Canada wrestler Spencer Tompkins CIF Champion at 160, 8th place finish at Masters and now headed to the CIF State Championship next weekend in Bakersfield.

PS-I hope wrestling can get more coverarge in the 07-08 season. Your SGV Tribune counterparts can show you how it is done.

LC faithful,
The taller kids on SP's bench are younger kids who aren't complete players. Who knows what can happen from now and next year. Once again, good luck against Price.

LC will beat Price. Price has two big men who we couldn't stop, but I think LC can stop them. The reason why we(SP) couldn't beat them is because we didn't have the height to rebound with Price. We had one of our big men get into foul trouble in the 3rd quarter, which hurt us severly and Price was able to take and keep the lead for good. The key to beating Price is making sure they don't easy layups and box out on every shot. #2 is a pretty good shooter, so I would make sure to get a hand in his face on every shot. Also, Price likes to full court press, but knowing Coach Hoffman, LC will be prepared for a press. I am predicting that LC will beat them. GOOD LUCK LC!!! Make the league RHL proud.

THIS JUST IN:
Pasadena won the coin flip over Murrieta Valley and will host the semifinal game on Tuesday at Muir.

La Canada wasn't as fortunate. Eight-time defending champion Price won the coin flip and the home site, which hasn't been settled yet. If anyone finds out where this game will be played, post it

Tiger fan,
Thanks for that. I was at the SP/WIndwood game (waht a game)and was very impressed with Josh P. and the quickness of the guards. But in looking at the bench SP had at least like 3 kids taller than the starting 5 - what is the story with those taller kids - are they younger and will be back next year or are they seniors that didn't develop?

price is very beatable. I was at the sp price game today and the tigers at price on their heels the entire first half.

LC is a much stronger team and SP didnt have the inside presence price had. Sp had to work for their baskets while price got a lot of easy lay ups, with todays performance all i know about a price team, i would pick lc over them.

purduealumni05,

Is Price beatable - can LC beat them?

SP lost to Price by 11. SP had the lead at half, but lost it when Josh Parish got into foul trouble in the thrid quarter. SP played tough for being out sized by a couple inches by Price. Congrats to SP on a successful year and good luck to LC the rest of the way! I hope you win out.

The Bosco Tech Tigers traveled some 41 miles to calabasas to play their next opponent in the Quarterfinals of the CIF-SS playoffs.

They were facing the Liberty League champions, Viewpoint (Calabasas). It was known that this game was going to be the toughest game yet for the Tigers.

The Tigers once again started the game not so well. Viewpoint scored on bosco at the 11 minute mark of the game. Bosco Tech failed to counter, Viewpoint's Defense was to tough for the tigers to handle. The tigers had numerous oppurtunities to capitalize on weakness in the viewpoint team but couldnt.

Continous mistakes in the tiger defense allowed the talented viewpoint team to score once more near the end of half. At this point it seemed like the Tech was only getting beaten by themselves.

In the Second half things took a turn for the worst when Viewpoint scored another goal on Tech's Goalie Victor Medina.

The tigers attempted to come back from their deficit like they previously did against buckley and malibu but failed.

The tigers did Score in the last minute of the game which was a result of a corner kick from Tech Defender Richard Sanchez.

Goalie Victor medina had 9 Saves in The game.

Score
Bosco Tech 1
Viewpoint 3

I was impressed with South Pas' energy against Windward in the quarters, and they have a group of players that compliment each other well. I wouldn't be surprised if they give Price a game. I saw Price crush Renaissance in the championship last year, but they lost eight seniors from that team. They're still good even in a rebuilding year. But they're not the monster we've seen in recent years.

theyre callin south pas the cinderella of basketball now? you never know what can happen with SP, theres so much talent on this team i wouldnt be suprised if it came down 2 the buzzer tonight against price. Specially with the crazy crowd they have every single night.. And they wouldnt play @ L.C., it would be a neutral site.
