Are these the best boys track programs in the area? La Salle, Alhambra, Arcadia, La Canada and Monrovia. What happened to Muir? At least the Mustangs girls take care of business

It was amazing going to a Mt. SAC Invitational press conference a couple years back, and looking at all the Muir boys track accomplishments in the record book. The same happens every year I go to the CIF track finals, I love to glance through the record pages, and read about Muir's dominance in the 80s and 90s. What happened to this once proud program? They can't even compete in relays anymore.

A great template. Where did you get it?

Reading your article I get the impression that comes to you very quickly translate ideas into text. Great article, congratulations!

I wonder if this blog survives to occur so neatly in the network. Good luck, that you wish.

None of you guys give Arcadia the respect we deserve. First of all, we are a team full of Asians. We have not been as dominant. And at our school, nobody really cares about track, so we don't really get the best athletes as does football or basketball even. And give us the respect we deserve for beating La Salle and Muir. We weren't as sharp, and yes we are not as great in CIF or anything, but we take care of business in our league. Burroughs and Pasadena is our next challenge and this should be a big one because last week Burroughs beat Muir, which comes down to this Tri-Meet for our League Championship. Yes we do have a bigger team, but a lot of the people do not compete just simple because we do not have enough spots for them to score in. We do have depth in each event though, with exception to a few events. I have to give it up to our girls for beating Muir for the first time in almost 20 years. Yes our team was bigger, but we still took care of business. And I hear Muir's boys were talking smack about how they were better than us in the 4x400 relay. because our duel meet came down to that race when the meet was tied. At the Arcadia Invitation we took care of that by beating them by 2 seconds, when not all our boys did not run their PRs in such a big meet.

Sbfan,
Does age not matter - the fact a team with mostly freshmen and sophmores last year that played should be much better this year or is softball different than every other HS sport. There are a couple of teams that got knock around in the Duarte tourney made up mostly of freshmen and sophmores (14-15 YOs)that should be much better next - because the team they were playing looked huge (16-18 Y-Os)in comparison.

Its really bad that arcadia says that there really good when Wesley Riley beat three of there top runners...i was there at the meet and if la salle had more people, the so called D1 school wouldnt feel so D1 after all...You never hear about Arcadia in the CIF Finals, but in recent years the La Salle boys have made some noise. Dont expect Arcadia to do anything this year. The team to look out for is La Salle

Should also be mentioned that Arcadia's team was about 3 or 4 times the size of La Salle and TC - for every event LS and TC had 2 participants, Arcadia had 6 or 7 - they fielded 4 relay teams, when LS and TC fielded 1. Not a negative comment - just pointing out the depth of talent one would expect from a school with 3,000 to 4,000 students, going up against schools 1/4 to 1/2 their size - compliments for getting the kids to participate.

arcadia KILLED la salle and TC yesterday in their meet

Arcadia will be what they have been in recent years. A great dual meet team that will probably win or contend for the league title, will have a few athletes that make the D-1 finals but won't make much of an impact in the final scoring as a team. Athlete's seem to plateau at some point during the season.

They will have the bragging rights to being the area's best dual meet team.

Muir girl's probably will still win the dual and probably the D-3 title.

hung, temple city beat la salle at the arcadia track meet because they had more runners, la salle still beat arcadia in that meet.

One Anon to another,
Arcadia football will be back next year and it will be business as usual. Dimalante has a great history at Arcadia and he won't fail. Keep in mind, before he came to Arcadia, he won two CIF championships, plus he was a excellent coach at Fresno State and Montana State. At Arcadia, he has only missed CIF once in the past 12 years.

BigA said:

Who said they choked? They weren't expected to go far in CIF. Whatever school your defending you should obviously say it before saying something negative about a school. Before you criticize you should at least open yourself up to the same criticism.

Arcadia football returned 3 starters so they weren't expected to win league. The foothill league in DIV 2 was very competitive so Burroughs or Burbank was expected to be in the running for the Pacific league. Next year, Arcadia has no excuse.

If your going to criticize, make your stand about where your from (not literally) but the school your defending.

All of you that haven't heard of Obea Moore from Muir read this article. We'll never see another Obea in the SGV in our lifetime. It's sad though. He was supposed to be the next Carl Lewis or Michael Johnson.

lets hope those sprinters dont choke like they did in football

i heard the same of walker and the apaches runners. you cant forget about the long distance teams they are the heart and soul of the track and field team and they just may bail some of the sprinters out later on in the season. i predict the apaches to make CIF. robison moreno and walker are the heart of the sprinters and andrew p. is the leader for the distance.

apchesfan said:

arcadia will be a force to reckon with this year. their sprinters are very good this year with the return of pacific league cahmp steven moreno leading the way. there is also david ong kris robison and new runner kevan walker. Walker was reportedely running a 22.4 in the 200 and had a 20 long jump. all 4 guys i mentioned are also in the 4-1 relay and have a very great chance to make it to CIF finals. Ong starts it off with kris..walker...and moreno finishing. the apaches will go all the way

Muir Coach Mike Knowles is confident his boy's program will rebound this season. I didn't rank Muir in the area top five because as of right now, I don't think they'd beat any of the above teams.

That will probably change as the season progresses. Talent-wise, they have a few kids. However, they have the same problem the girls team has- a serious lack of depth.

The muir program fell apart when Clyde Turner was convicted of molesting his boy track kids. During the 90's, Muir was the best in the nation. They had a kid by the name of Obea Moore who broke every record. There 4x4 team at the Penn Relays beat the Jamacian's national team.

Muir boys track team will be better this year. There has been a renewed interest and some talent is out at practice and working hard. I hear Mel Clipper's son is running. If he is anywhere close to his dad then Muir is coming back. I surely hope so.

What happen to Muir?

We all know what happened to the Muir boys track program. it wasn't pretty and would be way too much of a controversial subject for this blog

Just in case you missed this part of the story anonymous.....

Thanks to Lavelle Peterson, the Spartans are not one-dimensional.
Peterson will give La Can ada added depth in the 100 (10.6) and possibly 200.

Will Peterson be running tracj for LC?

How is Temple City still ranked so low. They're even ranked lower than La Salle, a overrated team that they beat 5-0. I think it's time TC gets some more respect. . .
