Pasadena Games coming March 31

It's debatable whether anyone was more relieved and happy upon hearing the return of the 64th annual Pasadena Games than Muir High head track coach Mike Knowles.
Last year, it was Knowles who received several calls and questions regarding the games.
"We put together a great event in 2005," said Knowles, who was one of the meet's main organizers. "We had more than 70 schools compete. That was the most in over 20 years."
But then the unthinkable happened. The Games, once tabbed as the longest-running invitational west of the Mississippi river, was canceled in 2006.
There were several reasons for last year's termination, from a school-scheduled renovation of the track to a lack of leadership. Knowles summed up last year's failure in simpler terms.
"There was a whole lot of confusion," said Knowles, who was not involved in last year's Games decision-making. "It got to the point where I was told it was going to be rescheduled, then it was going to be moved and lastly that it was going to be canceled."
The Games' cancelation did not end Knowles' involvement, however.
"I kept on getting calls," he said. "First, people wanted to know what happened and if the Games were still going on. I had to tell them I was not involved and did not know."
Knowles will have different information this year.
The Games are returning to Pasadena City College on Saturday, March 31 for a one-day "twilight meet" format. The meet is sponsored by the Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce but will be sanctioned by La Salle High.
"This is an elite meet," Knowles said. "It's sad to think about what happened last year.
"But I'm happy that it's back. It's a good local meet and I look forward to seeing some old faces and new teams."

For anyone who follows track. Is it true that this is the first time that Carter, from St. Francis, has never shot put before? That kid came over to Loyola and beat our best. Can someone find out if this is true. That kid has talent.

Arcadia Boys 4 x 100 will not make the CIF final. They have 2 nice runners of league caliber. In D-1 you need a super sprinter with 2 or 3 good complimentary runners or 4 solid runners. They don't have that.

Just a reminder that these marks are a weekly best area marks. These are the not the best marks from last year. Also, it's still pretty early in the season, so I would expect these to improve drastically.

Lastly, if you have a kid that has better times or marks either post it on dyestat or call in the results to our paper. Thanks.

Honestly 5-8 would have been 3rd on my jr HS team.

Anonymous,
I was shocked to see that 5-8 for high jump too. I did that in high school and was the 3rd best on my squad. I should have gone to school out here.

kevan walker of arcadia ran 22.8 in the 200 and kris robison of arcadia also got a 23 1/2 in the long jump! steven moreno, another apache, runs a 10.9 in the 100 and their 4 by 1 team should win CIF, so their names should also be somewhere in the top lists.

Erin Eastwood of South Pasadena ran a 1:00.2 400m at CIF Prelims last May, and she just ran a 1:01.1 split at the Distance Carnival last Saturday.
