Hall of Fame coaches to be announced soon

| | Comments (24) |

Below: Muir's Ken Howard coached last year's West squad. Who will it be this July?

What: 28th Annual Hall of Fame game
When: July 6
Where: Bassett High School
After speaking with Hall of Fame officials, the leading candidates to coach the West Squad are Joel Murphy (Maranatha), Ealar Gallagher (La Salle), Mike Mooney (Temple City), Gil Ruedaflores, and Wardell Crutchfield (Duarte). A final decision is expected soon!
Important:: Hall of fame officials have informed us that nominations for senior players must be in by FRIDAY! Nomination forms were sent out to over 100 schools, but not everyone has returned them. If any coaches or players are reading this, you need to contact Arroyo High Coordinator Leon Ward or Bassett High athletic director William Baca with your nominations ASAP.
One more thing: I spoke with Monrovia coach Steve Garrison on Tuesday, who sadly informed me that Monrovia will not have its new artificial surface in place this fall. Looks like they're shooting for 2008.

The East sure has some seasoned and successful coaches. I'd say Farrar from Charter Oak deserves it this year.

SMG said:

who is coaching the east?

SMG said:

I agree with you 100% New York I think this young lad can take any program to the top just like he did with Maryanta--- the sky is the limit for this coach-- he will be one of the SGV's greatest coaches

Coach Murphy guided a Division 13 team to a very successful Division 13 season. Why can't he guide an upper division team to a successful upper division season?

I wonder if Coach Drain from RHP has ever been approached for the all-star game.

Murphy and the success of Maranatha is a product of a stupid easy schedule and a playoff run in division 13. I'll be interested to see what schedule Murphy gives himself this year. CHALLENGE YOURSELF COACH! You only have one more year with talent, let them play some tough teams. I'm sure Murphy will open up this year with Little sisters of the peace to make up for the deaf school they played last year.

football fan,
I am glad someone figured out my intials finally--
all I said was that Marianta has a coaching gem on their hands-- what's wrong with that. And they better take care of him just in case Bond's leaves SF or Jeff Kearin ever leaves Loyola.

Hey Small Minded Guy

why are you so rude? Did your parents not love you? Joel is a great guy, give hi some respect. Just cause you don't like Maranatha does mean you have to rude. Show some class. I think you said you should act like you've been there. So why are you acting like a spoiled brat? Do you have issues? I don't even go to MHS but, i can wish someone well and be happy for them . Maybe you should go back to La salle and listen during mass. Ithink they still teach GODS love don't they?

I meant Potts, Brooks, Arnold, and Sparks.

Monrovia- James Davis, Eric Brooks, David Potts, Shawn Sparks, Albert Arnold.

I can see Potts, Arnold, Sparks, and Arnold playing.

Wyoming might not like David playing in a game like this.

the real hsfbfan said:

Arcadia- Possible selections, Kris Robison, Kevin Hess, and Nick Ponce.

I can see Kevin Hess being selected, but who knows what kind of shape he's in. Update us Kevin... What's your deal?

SMG said:

Congrats to Joel Murphy and Maryanta high school. What a coaching gem Maryanta has on their hands.

New York said:

I imagine the West will practice at Maranatha starting two weeks prior to the game. Practice will not be every day, though. There is usually a limited number of practices allowed, but a minimum that the players need to attend.

DAWG said:

When and what are the hours for the WEST practices?

New York said:

Leon Ward is a blast from the past. He was defensive coordinator for the West when Duarte's squad coached the West team in 1997.

In the Know said:

The La Salle coaching staff turned down the honor to coach the West.

???? said:

doesn't the coach of the year usually get selected to coach the all star team?

sfhs92 said:

I thought that the national football foundation wasnt involved in the game this year? If that is so who actually decides who the coaches are going to be?

Tom S said:

This just in. From the April edition of the Maranatha newsletter

"Coach Joel Murphy has been selected by the
Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley chapter of the National
Football Federation to be the Head Coach for the
West!
Joel Murphy and his coaching staff (along with a few
other coaches Joel will recruit) have the incredible
opportunity to represent Maranatha on a larger scale
than ever before! When asked for his reaction, Joel
stated, “I'm extremely honored to be chosen in a
community where there are so many wonderful
coaches. It's quite humbling." Though the game is not
until July, the process of meetings, recruitment and
overall game management begin next week.
Maranatha is also able to be the host practice field,
exposing some of the most gifted athletes, friends,
families, and the wider community of the valley to
our beautiful school."

So what's the decision for the East / West Hall of Fame coaches?

My vote for the west from the listed names goes to Coach Gil Ruedaflores-Alhambra HS. He deserves it for his tenure @ AHS and for turning the program around from the 80's. Good luck coach.

Who are these Hall of Fame officials? If Brownfield and the National Football HOF are not involved who is in charge?

Joel Murphy would be a great choice, but you can't go wrong with this list
