Senior Hall of Fame football game moved to Bassett
Below: 2006 West all-star Audarrius Bailey runs for yards in the 27th annual Hall of Fame game at Mountain View High School.

National high school athletic association president Jim Brownfield informed us on Wednesday that the National Football Foundation's 28th annual Hall of Fame All-Star football game will be held at Bassett High School on Friday, July 6.
The game is normally at Arroyo High School, but was moved to Mountain View HIgh School in 2006 because of field renovations at Arroyo. However, this is the first time in many years that the National Football Foundation will not be directly involved.
"Our chapter is tremendously busy, so we thought it was best to lease the all-star game to another location this year," Brownfield said. "We're happy that Bassett and athletic director William Baca stepped up and offered to sign the contract and host the game. Depending on our schedule, we hope to be back next year."
Because the National Football Foundation is not involved, the game will simply be called the Hall of Fame game.
"The most important thing to me was keeping the game close to the 605 freeway, and in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley," Brownfield said.
Brownfield said nomination forms for players have been sent out to 95 schools, and that coaches will be selected in the coming weeks.
This is always a great event, so I guess the obvious question is who would you like to watch in this year's game, and what are your thoughts on the move to Bassett?

I got choked up when I saw the story on ESPN the other day. The guy was a true legend and pioneer for building men for others.
New York;
Did you hear that Grambling State univ. Coach Ed Robinson passed away?
Coach Rob and my high school line coach Mike Morris were the main reasons I began to coach football.
He was a true pioneer for the sport and for the nation.

The one-handed homer will always be a favorite memory of mine!
New York,
10-4 on the zip issue. I remember Gibson's right field shot-homer!!! That was one of the greatest moments in basebal history that I ever experienced. Whew! With one pitch, the series took a twist.
DAWG
NY,
I am addicted to blog like I am with french fries. I need seek counseling soon, otherwise two things will happen. I will lose my job or get a divorce. I can't help it b/c fred puts out these great debates.
Just kidding, I addicted but not to the point where it harms me. When football comes around, I might check the blog 3 times a day instead of 1 during the off season. I probably account for over 500+ hits a year.
If it wasn't for this blog, I'd probably be at the gym, in shape.
the real hsfbfan,
Yes, I have resided in NYC the past several years, but I make trips home to Monrovia whenever possible. I still have a lot of family and friends around Town.
I can't speak for BigM, but it appears that he has done a better job than I have of breaking the addiction that is this blog!!! Sure is fun, though.
Please keep me posted on other Pacific League developments.
Dawg,
Don't confuse my zip code with where I consider home. I am still a Dodger fan, haha! I still remember Gibson's clutch shot in 1988 to take game one of the series against the A's!
New York,
Anon no more. I like my name. Dude, you actually reside in NY. I thought you were a Cali kid. Football is right around the corner. Get ready soon!
What ever happened to your sidekick, BigMLover?
New York,
The weather here is much like NY as well. Anyhow, Spring ball starts May 21st for all CIF schools.
See you there Yankee.
By the way, GO DODGERS!
DAWG
Anonymous,
That is exactly how I thought the play had gone. I would run that play on second and short from about 40 to 50 yards away from the end zone, AFTER I had established Bailey on the toss play a few times AND watching the corners cheating up to make the play. However, getting nailed for a loss is exactly what should be expected first play of an all-star game: fast linebackers and linemen playing the run (flying up) and fast DB's very conscious of not getting beat deep. Oh well. It could have been worse. At least they did not open the game with a fake field goal....hahaha!
Dawg,
Things are a bit drizzly in NYC. Looks like we are having some April showers, but I just got back from Aruba so I can't complain too much. I hope to see a bunch of pancakes your guys this fall. Maybe I'll stop by and take a look at spring ball. When is that?
When it is 3rd and 3/4 of a lap, I'll give the ball to Wesley Riley over Dwight. That being said, Dwight's 23 touchdowns speak for themself as far as his football playing ability goes.
New York, your pacific league source of info. I've been staying anon, because I am thinking about changing my blog name.
The corners didn't bite on the HB pass and Bailey was stuck by three dudes. The reason why the muir coaches ran that play was because bailey completed a 45 yard HB TD pass against them in a league game.
Henry;
See you there.

Dawg, I am up at sandburg 3 days a week. Mon-Wed-Fri or Sat 5-7. Stop by and say "hi"
New York;
How's the weather up in the Big Apple? The kids are doing great. It will be a different story in the Fall when we face TC. Anyhow, take care of yourself and I'll enjoy your forthcoming posts.
DAWG
Coach Henry,
I saw a few drills up on the track. Im there when my godson has a LL baseball game. What days time are you there?
DAWG
What's up Dawg. Good hearing from you. Keep up the good work. I hope you have the boys lifting and running hard. I really don't want to fly home and see us get punked by Mooney's guys again. I'm noy just talking about the hawgs either, even though that's what the article tried to say.
Dawg, have you seen the speed class I am running up at sandburg park?
Coach Henry,
Thanks for the compliments. I agree with the 5 year run @ TC JV football. That was history in the making for any JV level within the SGV and/or in southern Cal. I remember when Marty asked if we should give you a shot in 2000 for DC... I told Marty that it would be the only person that I would like to have as DC other than John V. Anyhow,
I still hold my vote for you for any SGV high school who is looking for a DC. And thanks for getting me into Monrovia. I am having fun with program there and this season looks great for all of the levels. Thanks for putting the word in with coach Garrison.
I know that offenses are flashy and defense wins CHAMPIONSHIPS, except for my BEARS during the Superbowl. But, if we did'nt have an offense, then the D would not exist.
Oh, by the way: The Marty D., Henry R. David A. & Maverick staff will go down
in fond memories as the greatest staff ever out together by Coach Marty.
See you at Sandburg Park.
DAWG
New York, no I never coached with Mr. Palos. I had the privilege of coaching with Marty D, David A, Oscar N and John V. and 5 groups of very special football players that I am very proud to say that I still stay in contact with a great deal of them.
David, I thought that was you but I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. You of all people should know that trickery doesn’t work against me lol. But I have to give it to you and Marty for coming up with some off the wall gadget plays in practice to try and cool our heels Defensively.
You know how much I hold you and Marty in such high regard. If it hadn’t been for the two of you I never would have had the opportunity to be part of such a special 5 yr run. A run that will probably not happen again at the TC JV level for a long time.
Thanks for the plug for the DC position at Rosemead.
So in closing all I have to say is this:
Offenses are designed to look flashy; Defenses are built to win CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!
What's up New York>??
Anyone go to the M-Town/Tc baseball game tonight? And if so, results?
DAWG
People dont seem to understand that a trick play is not intended to be a trick. A trick play is an offensive attempt to move the ball against the defense. I dont see anywhere in the laws and regulations of football books where it states that a coach is not allowed to run a trick play. As long as the offense is not breaking any procedure rules or getting a penalty on an attempt trick play, then let it be and move on. As far as for the Muir coaches, I would stick to a RUNNING play from the start and not give the ball in the air. But then again, if you are willing to take upon any challenge as a coach and for the benefit of the TEAM, then I dont see a problem with starting the game with a "Trick-Play" aka as an OFFENSIVE PLAY.
DAWG
That's classic. They probably convinced themselves all week that they would open the game with a touchdown off that play half-back pass. What is this, Joe Montana football on Super Nintendo? How did it do?
Dawg,
Last year the muir coaches ran some dumb trick plays at the wrong times. The muir coaches opened the game up with a toss pass with Bailey. You never run that play unless you have checked the technique of the corners after running a toss or sweep to either the weak or strong side.
Coach Murphy seems well-deserving of the opportunity to coach this game. There are a couple other staffs in the area that I think would also do well, namely the La Salle staff.
Henry
I certainly agree with your attitude of going into every game (game, job interview, sales pitch, whatever) expecting victory.
Did you ever coach with Jose Palos at TC?
Coach Henry;
With all do respect, I was NOT attacking your defensive coaching style or what you have done @ TC.
I had the privilege to coach the D-Line with all of those 44-6 records. In addition, I had the privilege to coach the O-line to battle the D-line for the 5 years. It was a great challenge to coach both the O-line & the D-line. Not to mention, the plays that coach Marty and I had up our sleeves when we went against your defense. It made me a better coach as to teach the O-line certain methods of fighting off the nasty D-linemen. Im grateful for learning from you and Marty. I even utilized the drills against TC's freshmen game this last season with a win.
In responce to my Offensive comment. I take great pride on how the O-line negotiates a play against tough defenses. In fact, the game of football is not just about the D. Is played on both sides. I dont accept the offensive failure aspect of it. I see challenges from a coaching perspective as to the positive production of moving the ball a few yards is what makes football a great sport.
DAWG
Rumor has it that Joel Murphy from Maranatha will coach the West squad.
New York, no I have never had the privilege to play or coach against Bloomington High School but I’m sure if I had, the opportunity of facing such a well coached well prepared well organized team would have been a tremendous challenge. Who has not heard of Bloomington High School and all their well-dissevered success?
I am not speaking for any DC other than myself. I am speaking of my experiences at TC being part of a JV program that went 44-6 over 5 yrs, 34 of those wins as it’s DC.
I am responding to a blanket statement by DAWG regarding an offense’s ability to get over on a Defense.
I took tremendous pride over the years that I was given the responsibility by the head coach to put together a Defense that would season after season stop the likes of Monrovia, La Canada, Arcadia, Arroyo and Rosemead.
Taking 35 new players each season and implementing my style of Defense and defending our League Championship was the battle cry.
I was very blessed very fortunate to have had players that were willing to go through the fire for the team and it’s overall success.
As a Defensive Coordinator the statement, “A successful Offensive play is a Defensive failure” for me holds true. Based on how I prepare my team Defensively through game film, practice preparation when we step on the field game day there was no doubt in our minds that Defensively we are going to be successful. If you go into a game thinking we may have a shot at these guys, then why show up? After 48 minutes if you have done your homework, worked hard in practice, left no doubt on the field, your walk back to the locker room or your bus ride home should be a jubilant one.

Anon,
We were talking about why kids quit football at catholic schools and not who the best football players are. So maybe you were smoking some of the same stuff i was. maybe you should read the posts before you respond
Henry,
Have you ever played or coached against Bloomington? Don Markham brings a mean ass offense and people know what's gonna come, but it is still incredibly tough to shut down.
Dawg, I totally disagree with that statement, if you look at the successful offensive plays during a game you will find based on the Defense called one or more players not getting into their fit positions and in what I refer to as “circling the drain”.
On the other hand when the ball is snapped and the Defense gets into their assigned areas of attack and the play still hits big, then as a Defensive coach you have to give it up to the Offense for running a successful play.
Bottom line is when you line up on both sides of the ball and it’s snapped it’s all about who gets from A to B first the fastest.
As far as trick plays goes, they work great against teams that are not well prepared and not excepting them to happen. When a Defense is shutting down an Offense a wise Defensive Coordinator has prepared his team thorough game film and practice for such plays to happen. The smile is actually on the Defensive Coordinator’s face as he looks across the field at the OC and thinks “Nice try”

I think Roxas is half Asian
When we played San Marino in the late 70s they didn't have ONE player shorter than 6'0" - today I be they don't have 2 taller than 6'
sfhs92,
What are you smoking the best Catholic school players came from Youth tackle football including SF's players.
All star game coach for the West. I second New York and vote for Coach Garrison.
Good luck Coach
Every successful offensive play, is a Defensive Failure. Source: Coach Henry Rodriguez.
I disagree: I am a OFFENSIVE TYPE of Guy. Every successful Offensive play, is a play well written and performed by an anticipated O-coordinator and by what the defense has provided for the giving play in question. Therefore, moving the ball against force is going to take place no matter who is lined up with the intention of stopping the ball's movement toward positive yardage.
DAWG
Reverses and trick plays are part of the game of football. There's only ONE game and it nice to see lots of the trick plays that defense guys hate. I LOVE to run any offensive play that brings the crowd up to their feet and also give you you positive yards. The crowd is there for a fun time and the players will also have FUN to run plays against D's. It's also fun to see the defense coaches expression after a BIg offensive play down the grid and against the grain.
ROUGH THINKING, Oh well!
DAWG
Andrew Roxas had 7 scholarship offers and committed to Washinton State is the best linemen in the area this year and is Asian.
My mistake about the Blair Lewis comment. I was thinking about a different guy.
Blair Lewis played for Blair during the 1995 season.
The 1998 Hall of Fame Game with Garrison was fun to watch. The West opened up the game with a reverse! Some speedster from Muir took it around end for a big gain. We even took a knee to end the game...
I think Garrison would make a great all-star game coach. He is fun to play for and he likes running gadget plays. That's perfect for an all-star game.
Blair Lewis was a running back from arcadia who played at PCC (all american) and Idaho.
Arcadia had JD Ziska, Phillip Potter, Justin Wilkins and Paul Ahn. The game was dominated by a La Salle lineman, Chris Tavera.
The year with Garrsion, I believe was 1998, was lead by Blair Lewis who had 200 yards against the east. Anthony Kelly from Muir played, Chuck Leonardis Arcadia LB, and a monrovia players.
I think Fred wrote an article last year on the subject. The article featured an interview with Coach Mooney.
In all honesty, the most problems I ever had as an offensive linemen were against San Marino's quick, well-coached, undersized defensive linemen. Of course, I attribute that to Bill Maloney's coaching because the easiest times I ever had were against South Pasadena.
Big Asian linemen
Paul Ahn (Arcadia 2001)
6'6 310 Pounds
Scholarship to Northern Arizona
thats all i know of
isnt it pretty obvious that the burst of the asian population is a BIG contributor to the fall of good football in the west san gabriel valley?
Lets look at some teams that were good in the 60s, 70s, 80s, even the early to mid 90s.
some obvious schools like ARCADIA, SAN MARINO and TEMPLE CITY used to be hot spots for good football and are now just filled with small asian players. call me racist or a bigot but you have to agree that whites = 6'0 200 while asians = 5'9 175. has there ever been a big asian lineman with legit d-1 numbers?
A Football All Star Game during winter break would make perfect sense!
Here are some points for both sides, with a slight bias towards moving the game.
PROS:
1) Players are fresh off of a season
2) Coaches don't have to take time out of the busy summer season with weight lifting/passing leagues.
3) Players/Coaches are on winter break.
4) For any players wanting to get recruited, they get the chance to maybe add a little more film to their highlight tapes against good competition
5) Also the winter break is a dead period for NCAA recruiting so its not like players are losing valuable recruiting weekends during this time.
Cons:
1) Tradition. Football is a game of traditions and somebody is going to have a problems MOVING the game.
2) The historical site of Arroyo HS is a grass field from what I remember. That grass is probably in bad shape in December.
3) Not everyone's break is the same and some pretty big holidays are close together in about a month's time.
*Just came to my mind. Why not have the San Gabriel Valley and the Pasadena Star News prep football writers pick the teams in the same way that they pick the area all star squads? The NFF is no longer a sponsor and I doubt they had much in choosing or setting up teams in the first place.
I guess the #3 of the cons is the only obvious deal breaker. Let's try to get the ball rolling on this Fred and West SGV prep football fans!
In 2001, the West Squad was coached by La Cananda's Rich Wheeler. From what I remember we CRUSHED the East. I honestly don't remember the score and would rather leave that up to the statisticians and the 'historians.'
Matt Milton from SF, like 5 guys from Arcadia including the QB WR and LB, some good ones from Muir and Monrovia and the such. Dang, those were the days. I think either we or the 2002 squad spelled the demise of the WEST squad.
Actually the reason kids quit football at catholic schools is that a majority of them are from catholic elementary schools and have only played flag football because that is all the cyo allows them to play.
More kids quit football from Freshman year to Sophmore or during freshman year than ever before because kids are coming from soccer and not having played youth footbal - they don't have the skills or toughness they get developed in youth football and can't hack it - that is the primary reason that football has fallen off in the SGV. just look at what has happened to SF. Number soccer team - 4-6 football team.
Pasadena Guy,
It's not that the East has a different genetic pool that simply produces better lineman. I think the east just coaches better on the line overall. They have to, because they have more veteran coaches who realize what it takes to go deep in the playoffs and beat teams from the OC.
Also, the East team is typically filled with players and coaches who have gone deep in the playoffs. So that success permeates across the area, even across the losing schools because they have to play against the winning schools. There is no reason the West SGV can't up in the football ranks. I would love to see more teams playing teams from the East. I'd like to see Muir and Arcadia take on teams from the Miramonte and San Antonio league.
One more thing about this all-star game: Why is it so far removed from the actual football season? It would be much better if it were played when all the seniors were still in mid-season form, like the NLF pro-bowl as well as the valley baseball all-star game. Having it earlier in the year would also give the JC guys a chance to show their stuff when it might be early enough to still get on with a four-year school.
Funny note about the whole cowbell thing: A friend of mine, in a completely unrelated conversation, mentioned that SNL had a skit about the cowbell. Is that where you all got the line "Can I get some more cowbell?"
cubano, i hear lavelle is going to citrus with some other of the area's top players.
and on a side note, can we still get some cowbell???!
broadnax and peterson all you need
is dwight broadnax in the east vs west game
Excuse my lack of knowledge or exposure to the East/West game as of late, but in your (the bloggers or maybe even Fred's) opinion, what's been the missing ingredient for the West? Just by reading the post it seems as if we have the athletes, we have the coaches, so what's missing. Is it something simple like linemen? And while I say simple I do not mean to underwrite the imperative effect they have on the game.
That picture of Bailey is interesting. Why? Where are the offensive linemen? Thats our problem every year for the westside.
That was Bailey in last years game. He graduated from AHS in 2006. He took off a season and will play at citrus next year. If anyone has seen him play, he is a cross between desmond reed and reggie bush. Should be fun to see.
no he wasnt he graduated last year
that picture had to be 2005 not '06.Bailey was already gone by then.
Is any one knowledgaeble as to where Lavelle Peterson will be playing in the fall?
I saw somthing here about his enrollment in a JC? I had also heard of UCLA giving him an opprotunity based on his passing the ACT?
Can any one iluminate?
I absolutely agree that those coaches with the great performances this year should get high consideration. Gallager has a veteran staff. It would be a turn-key solution, not to mention DiFiori has a strong knowledge of the East.
Has Bonds ever coached it? Has Mooney? I wonder how Tip would do.
While it might be the most popular vote around here, what about giving some of the small school coaches a chance to coach in the game. Rio Hondo's Ken Drain would be a fine candidate, Brendan McGrail from Poly has a few championships under his belt. What about LaSalle's Gallager or Murphy from Maranatha?
That's unfortunate that some of the true D1 athlets don't get a chance to participate, but I completely understand that the risk isn't truly worth the reward.
regarding Broadnax, I recently saw him at the TriMeet in Arcadia. He ran the 400M against Wesley Riley from LS, who left him in the dust! I guess that settles who is faster.
Dear Blog Brethren:
It has been a while since my last post. It's great to see some of you guys around.
I hate to say it but I doubt you will see Babs or any D1 signee on the rosters. Many Universities prohibit their recruits from entering such contests, due to the risk of injuries. It has nothing to do with the players not wanting to represent!
It surprises me that Lavelle did not receive any scholarship offers, he is a TRUE talent. I just salivate at the thought of him running behind this years LS O Line, he would have broken every record possible and probably landed LS it's first CIF Championship, but that is only daydreaming!
There were many players in the SGV that were talented but due to many factors: coaches, school size/visibility did not get picked up.
I hope some will continue to put on helmet and pads and JUST PROVE THEM WRONG!By the by 007, Andrew Saldana does not play line, he was an LB as a freshman he was FB!
Campy,
Can you beleive how relatively little was happening on the MHS campus back in 1996-1998 relative to the Pasadena stuff, yet we basically got sanctioned? The CIF forced Monrovia to dismantle the coaching staff that gained victory in the 1998 Hall of Fame Game. It's almost like Monrovia just accepted the punishment without a fight. Sad.
I just read the Mills article. The link is below.
http://www.pasadenaweekly.com/article.php?id=4443&IssueNum=64
There is a blurb about bad desicisions among the PUSD overall. One specific incident that caught my attention was that in 2004 Muir waited until after the football season to discipline some of its football players who were accused of assaulting another student on campus...very interesting message to send.

could you tell me about the article thats in the pasadena weekly today 3/22/07 regarding coach Mills on page.8 ITCHIN' TO FIGHT
Jim, your whole theory on running backs is nice but i think it is a little off. The size of running backs is a cyclical thing back in the late 80's and 90's most running backs were under 5'11 for some reason and now people like bigger backs. i dont think it really has to do with the pac 10 conference. I love the pac 10 but if you want to talk about power running and backs getting beat up look at the sec those schools just line up and pound it at each other for the most part.
Soccer -zzzzzzzzzzzzz......
Running backs under 6 feet that go to the pac ten get abused. Their bodies take a lot of punishment.
If we look at the big picture running backs under 5'11 maybe have a career in the NFL for 4 or 5 years and almost never come from the pac ten (unless they went J.C. first) because the go to the the pac ten and put their bodies through to much pounding. If the go the Jr. College route they play against guys they're just as fast as or faster then and they showcase their skills and save all the pounding at the division one level and still get to go to Div. 1 and into the NFL for the 4-5 year run. Their bodies are a little less beaten up and hold up better than if they played div 1 for four years.
Maurice Drew Jones for UCLA had to leave early because his body was wearing down and now he is in a perfect spot getting 10 plays a game.
A.K. Harris who went to C.O.C. then to Cal and is now second string in his second year in the NFL comes to mind.
Bottom line, in ten years these types of players like Lavelle can have healthy bodies and get paid, but the most important thing in going to a J.C. is preparing the player for life and that means getting a degree.
Right now Lavelle has something coaches want, his skills as a football player, but when he is finished playing he still has to have something everyone wants and thats a degree.
How can any parent not want what is best for their kid. If you want whats best for your kid now, it's looking ahead to when he is 28 years old, married one or two kids, and he can make a difference because he still has something everybody wants and that is his degree.
I hope this make sense because it should make the player dollars later on in life.
Jim M.
OK, TIRED OF WAITING FOR THE FOOTBALL SEASON TO BEGIN
Here’s a game for you
Tomorrow, Friday the 23rd, 3:00 at Minuteman Field
Powder Puff – Junior v Senior girls
Should be fun
Both teams have been practicing and the grudge match is on
Coach Selection:
Coach Garrison is one of very few coaches to get a victory for the West in the last 15 years in the 1998 game.
Coach Mooney would do a great job, but what about Coach Gallagher from La Salle? Why not go with the WSGV Coach of The Year? He beat Mooney and Garrison's teams when it counted most. I'd like to see what he and his staff would do with a talent laden roster like the West All-Stars.
Player Selection:
I have never seen this done correctly, meaning the roster is almost never reflective of the best players in the West. The year I played, I was the only Monrovia representative. We had two or three other guys who were better than people who were on the roster at their respective positions: Mike Scott (all-world Kicker and punter), Mike Waters (tailback and DB), Justin Yuille DB. It is also curious about the lack of Monrovia reps. from their Championship teams of the late 1990's.
What the Hell:
Why can the West not get it done and beat the East?
RHL football scout - any thoughts on bothe these guys - two of the best I have seen (Peterson maybe ever) on why they are going the JC route. Does the RHL just not get enough respect?
Second that on Mooney
True that - that post has be up for 2 days and one comment by a guy basically promoting his own web-site - tells you all you need to know about soccer in America - sorry the United States of America

Soccer - no one cares except Mom (and maybe MAYBE Dad) with the kid who couldn't hack it in a real sport like football. That is why football is first and soccer is next to the obits in the back.

Why is that football stuff in front of the sports that are in season! The soccer All CIF teams are at the bottom of the blog. What's that all about! Ghee
Posted by: Anonymous | March 21, 2007 08:19 PM
What about Mooney from TC. Season after season he puts competitive teams on the field and has seem to have Garrison's number along with the rest of the RHL the last couple of seasons.
Just put Peterson on the team - and any other deserving player from La Canada on the team to expect Wheeler to interrupt his fishing trip and make a call is too much effort to ask of him. Heck he can't do that when he is in town.
New York? Any comments on this post?

Great blogging for once. No one engaged in belittling some junior athlete or making slanderous statements about a coach. Thus far I think both previous bloggers have raised valid points. As a fan of football in this valley for over 25 years (since I moved here) I believe that the talent pool currently is like none other. It would be a shame if our true athletes didn't play and represent the West.
Does anyone really think Rich Wheeler would lift a finger to help a player or even nominate a player of Lavelle Peterson's level he won't. If you know another way to get a player noninated please let me know because Wheeler won't.
I hope Wheeler see's this post and becomes human for a moment and does the right thing for his players and gets some of his kids in because those are some of the most wonderful football players going.
Jim M.
While I agree with SFHS92 to a certain degree, is it presumptious to think that these players owe it to the communities that have supported them throughout their high school careers? Do they owe anything to the parents, coaches, fans, schools, etc...that have paid their gate fees, sat in horrible weather, driven hours and hours to and from games, and the list goes on. What about one last game so we can say, "We saw them when!"
Is the risk worth the reward for some of these kids? Some of them already have scholarships do D1 schools what benefit do they gain from playing in a game like this? I can understand playing in the cali florida game but a lesser game like this just doesnt make sense for some kids. I think it is a good idea for kids who dont have scholarships maybe they can get a little bit of exposure and even get a late offer from a school. Good luck to all the kids who do participate though.
James Bond;
I like the list you compiled for the game. DOnt forget Brian Soumakian from TC and Sean Kelly from M-town.

I think the move to Bassett HS is a smart one. Bassett HS just got a new field and stadium.
In addition, is good to have the game at different venues on yearly basis. Is good for the community, the players, and the schools hosting the game.
Is good to share the wealth of profit with the host of the game. The monetary contributions can be used toward their athletic depts.

Here's a fun one for us all. If we were the coaches of the West, who would you have as your Offensive and Defensive starters? Let's make this a mock high school fantasy team.
My thoughts thus far:
QB Luke Collis
RB Lavelle Peterson
WR Armon B. (PHS)
WR Zion Babb (is he a WEST)
* Here's where the names escape me
TE Arcadia guy--the one who played hurt the whole year. Kevin Hess? Is that his name?
OL Roxas (St.F)
OL Saldana (LaSalle)
who else though
I would want Lance Mitchell on D. as well as Joshua Parish.
Man...this is a SQUAD!! Who else though? Gotta get some of those M-Town boys, as well as Duarte.
Josh Parish and Lavelle Peterson are both local names that need to be mentioned.
Josh Parish is one of the best Linebackers we have seen out of the area in a long time, and this year one of the best in the COUNTRY.
Lavelle Peterson...well, I dont even know what to say about him...
How are the teams decided in the first place. I realize there is the East and West, but how are those lines created. As well, how in the world does a coach go about filling their roster? I love this game though. I remember having friends of mine with their son's in this game.
Is thier a link for this game so we can get more information?
Sorry, I meant July 6...The rosters won't be announced for a while. Forms have been sent out to schools to nominate players for the game...
August 6 is a Monday and who is playing in the game Fred?
