Ten4 NY... the HAWGS will represent this season. The heart of the team-O-line.
DAWG
O-Line PRIDE! Put the HAWGS to work, Coach!
You hit the nail on the head New York...regarding the O-line. Line dont like the 15 mins. of fame, they just want to have fun and know that their running backs and QB's acknowledge them for their job of blocking. This is one of the first things I advice the line early in Spring that the crowd a.k.a the fans dont really care about the linemen, they just want to see touch downs. Then I tell the linem that by the end of the season, every receiver, cornerback, and back-ups WANT and ASK to get in the game at LINE. What does that tell you? The line that I have coached in the last 13 years had a great time at drills, PT's and PUSH-UPS FROM HELL. Through out the Summer drills, the line work their butts off and have fun doing it. See u on the field of dreams.
DAWG
Yeah Philly,
I'm not delusional. I know linemen will never get the spotlight and glitz that comes with scoring touchdowns. Real linemen don't really want that stuff anyway. It's embarrassing. But that stuff is external, from the newspapers and fans. Linemen should get a ton of praise internally, at least, from their coaches. Then the other teammates will catch on. Just like whenever a TC running back has a great game, the first words out of his mouth are praising his line's play. Guess what that does? It gets his line fired up to help him have another great game.
Furthermore, line play is very detail oriented. If one of the five or six guys has a breakdown, then the whole unit fails because chances are the play gets busted. It takes a lot of time, reps, and film review (even after wins) to continually improve.
I agree with new york. We're never hurting in the receiving core. But Im sure that he will be good over at Duarte. Im sure he'll be a stand out as a falcon, thats assuming he is a good as his brother jesse.
real hsfbfan,
Im down for In n Out.
Back to new york,
thanks for clarifying what you were saying, I mean I wasn't hurt but I felt I had to defend those that played in the last seven years. Now you say we need to change the culture and celebrate the guys in the trenches. The fact of the matter is that, our youth doesnt care about that anymore, maybe back in your day, and since T.C. has had such a good line for a good while its well respected there but you need to understand that kids in high school(at least monrovia) care about whos running the ball and whos catching the ball. I am well aware of how a running back is good as his line. I know this. But if you think that the guys in the trenches are gonna get treated like the guys getting the ball, its not gonna happen. Its sad because we both know if you dont have a good offensive/defensive line, you dont go far, but like I said, times have change and those young ones at monrovia dont respect the guys in the trenches. Coaches would always tell us(the line) we're the unsung heroes.... all guts no glory and things as such. Really I could of cared less about getting respected because I was the guy in the trenches as long as our team would get a win thats what it is all about. I might of been wrong about saying that T.C. has a good line due to natural circumstances. But when I played it seemed like those guys were big, always hard to push around, and get by and block. And it was only T.C. everyone else in the rio hondo I pushed around like it was nothing. So yeah Im glad we cleared that up, we gotta bridge the gap of the two decades lol.
hsfbfan,
I hate it too when receivers dont block either, it makes me sick to my stomach I hope griffin can teach those WR's to block and block well.
Fan,
Depth at WR is really never an issue for us.
NY & Philly B,
There's talk that it looks like Soph Jordan Canada from duarte will be a big surprise. He's the brother of Jesse Canada. Too bad M-town didn't have him. he's a clifton kid.
that picture up there is crazy broadnax was such a crazy runing back if u look at his size he is like 5-8 and 165.
west will come out on top
i love broadnax u so sexy run that ball baby.
I mean regular season
this game is going to be close!!! but i cant wait for the season to get rolling... TC will only lose one game during the season........ HOPEFULLY
Fan,
I was very happy to see that Damon is out there. He is a great competitor with very rich experience.
In-N-Out is the call. Sometimes, though, making the trek into Pasadena for Tops is pretty good too!
Philly B,
Someone broke kobe's hotdog eating record. He ate 59 this weekend. Anyway, isn't the game "the battle for in n out" perhaps thats were we should go and NY, too.
NY,
Damon Griffen is coaching Monrovia's WR. He should bring some great experience, NFL and College. Talking about blocking with pride... Stalk blocking is very important and I hope WR's take pride in it. It's probably 75% of playing that position. i can't stand to see WR's walk off the line of scrimage.
Philly,
Definitely not trying to undermine you or your teammates, and I am by no means trying to paint the 1990's as a glorious decade of offensive line play at Monrovia High School. Furthermore, I said oscillate, indicating that it swings back and forth, not just starting on one side of the spectrum and ending on the other. Our 1993 team got punked by SoPas, Blair and La Canada. We actually did VERY well against TC and SM, the top two teams in the league. 1993 was Damon Griffin's senior year. We also had an all-league QB as well, but we still finished 0-5 in league. In 1994, we beat up LC, Blair and SP, but TC punked us on our homecoming and SM stayed cool until the end and beat us with Dan Loyd (full ride UofA QB) and the most team-oriented defense you could imagine. In 1995, we still lost to a very outmanned SM team, but we physically man-handled everybody else, including TC. Imagine a Monrovia team lined up in a Power-I with our full-back (DuRon Turner) at tailback going four yards and a cloud of dust on TC. We even beat up on San Marino physically, but we commited five turnovers on their side of the field and lost. The 1995 team was very talented, very physical, but also very mistake prone.
Coach Lujan and Coach Garrison established an offensive line (and entire program) philosophy of always building a bridge for the next generation. Lujan was on campus from 1992-1995 season (3 years varsity and one year JV head coach). The 1995 OL/DL coach was a guy named Coach Ingels, who tookover when Lujan took over the JV team. Ingels is the one who initiated the skull and cross bones for big hits. That's right. An offensive line coach did that. Obviously I can not speak of Monrovia tradition without mentioning Coach Rycroft who was our defensive coordinator.
Anyway, Coach G's first three senior classes of 1993-1995 (finished last, third, second place in RHL) built a bridge that led to winning the next four consecutive Rio Hondo League titles as well as three consecutive CIF Finals appearances. I did not win a championship until after high school, but I took pride in knowing that my younger brother was part of the first three Varsity RHL titles. He and his classmates were freshmen when I was a senior. He then played varsity line the next three years.
Philly, I like that you are a lineman and have been in the trenches. But please don't ever say that TC's line will always be better than our line due to natural circumstances. Attitude, dedication and tradition build lines, programs and win championships.
Also, the fact that Monrovia has a bunch of talented football players should be a bonus, not a curse. We need to build a culture that celebrates the guys in the trenches as well as the guys scoring touchdowns, because typically there is a direct correlation between line play and running backs performance. As you also know, linemen are not the only people who need to take pride in blocking. Running backs are also responsible for pass pro. Receivers usually spring the RB's long-run. Most colleges don't let their RB's or WR's play if they can't block.
Offensive and Defensive lines are bigger physically and in number of people than any other position. The linemen need to lead the team, no matter what program we are talking about.
New York,
I think you're undermine my generation and the younger generation after me. As if we dont care about taking care of our RB's QB's. I played on line I did my lifting, its all about team chemistry and fighting till the end of a game. But I do agree about it being a culture. At TC you say its an honor to be a lineman at TC. Well lets think about that for a second. Of course its an honor, because with the exception of Desmond Reed, theres no one that has talent where it brings fans to go and watch high school ball. At monrovia we have that acrossed the board. Players that can outrun an entire defense, or make an spectacular catch or use our team speed to out play other teams. So therefore our line play has been overloooked in the past few years because of this, so lets not put it to attitude. I know things were a little bit different back in the 90's but if you think lineman of the 2000's dont care about protecting their RB's and QB's then you are sadly mistaken.
BigA,
Lets not make predictions so early, I mean there not even in pads yet. And if you think it will be a defensive bout your wrong I think monrovia will put up points and arcadia will put up a good fight, But I'm not gonna give a score its too early.
I have a feeling Arcadia will come out on top this year with Monrovia with a defensive bout.
My prediction
Arcadia 17
Monrovia 13
Philly,
I don't think TC's success on the line relative to Monrovia's is a product of gene pool. I think it is reflective of a culture. It has always been more honorable to be a lineman on TC's campus than it has been on Monrovia's campus. Just like doing squats and power cleans is less glamorous than bench press and bicep curls, but it shows up in the championship games just like a dominant line that makes few mistakes and takes pride in not letting people rough up their RBs and QBs. And the great defensive lines that dont get pushed back or washed down. If they are undersized then they make piles to clog the lanes (like San Marino's used to be so good at). I've seen Monrovia's line play and attitude on the line oscillate quite a bit from 1993 through 2007 and with it the records of our teams.
Anonymous, Well I cant wait to see this so called non-pretty boy arcadia team. I'm down for hamburgers and hot dogs before the mon-arc game. In your opinion whats the best spot to go get food at?
New York,
Of course I know monrovia can have a good line, but I think that T.C.'s line will always be a bit better than ours, but that doesnt have to do with coaching. They grow those boys pretty big out there in T.C. I know Coach M will get the line together, he was my coach when I played and he knows his stuff so I have no doubts about our coaches. I'm sure our line will be good, we wouldn't be able to have such a good run game as we've had in the past few years if we didnt.
NY,
That's a BIG ten-4 on the line stuff. Coach M is a great line coach. The line will step up to the level of expectation in 2007.
DAWG
Fan,
That population shift has been ongoing for the past 25 years. There is likely talent in the community, but some kids just are not interested in playing football. Not all parents approve. Hopefully that trend will change and parents will catch on.
Philly,
We could have just as good of line as TC does if we worked at it. I think Coach A and Coach M will get us there, right Dawg?
its the real hsfbfan. I am sending this through my blackberry and sorry if its messed up. philly b... arcadia no longer has that pretty boy look. these new kids just want to play ball if will be a difference maker this season. you will notice it. we should all get together before the arc mon game. hotdogs and burgers.
hsfbfan,
I can also agree with you that monrovia is also very expensive to live. So yeah its possible in about five to ten years that we can have the same thing happen to monrovia's football team, but I dont know if its very likely that it will happen. NOw with regards to these seniors coming that are blue collar, I dont know about that one, arcadia is known for having pretty boys and caring about there pads and not the game and with the exception of walker I have a feeling that will happen again.
Frank P,
So you've seen arcadia and weren't that much impressed huh? Well before I speak you do have to remember it means nothing until the pads come on or you have to wait until late July for things to look alittle sharper, this is just spring ball right, everyone is talking and hypeing themselves up but dont expect the finished masterpiece when they've just started, go back in late July and give me a report on what you see and then it will actually mean something. And back to hsfbfan, arcadia's prices on homes will never drop, so lets put those dreams away right now. You'll never get a chance to have that raw talent at arcadia you will have to rely on your very good coahces to get those kids ready. I mean I can see monrovia dropping their prices before arcadia if you wanna put it like that. But Im interested in some other schools including monrovia on how spring ball is going. La canada.... What will they do without Peterson? Is South Pas looking at a comeback to greatness? And whats good with T.C. We all know that they'll have a good offensive/defensive line even though Mooney is leaving. But is William Do gonna be the real deal at running back. I cant see why not. It seems like whoever you put back there at running back succeeds. BUt whos at quarterback and Wideout. Does San Marino look promising???? I mean they did give Monrovia a bit of a battle last season. Whats good with Muir??
Frank P,
Your back... Walker is very raw at QB, he'll take a while to develop. I hoping he has a good summer with the passing league games. The RB you are referring to is Amhaz. This will be his 3rd playing varsity. He had a great soph year but fell off the map during is junior year, immature. But, from what you said, he is back which is good.
Without pads we can't look to much into the season yet. Remember last year? We looked great in summer and chaterred up a storm but once those pads were on it was a different story. These kids will come through. Actually, quite a few of these kids went through the pop warner program together and have grown up with each other. That chemistry helps a lot. Golper has been around the program for a his whole life because is brother played a while back when.
You can say I'm die hard. I like the prep level better than college and NFL. Listening to stories like Vick, just make me sick.
NY,
Your right NY, MV does have some good kids eventhough there RE prices are high too. It's the asain population buying out the homes in arcadia. No raw talent buying these homes.
Frank P,
You sound like a high school kid. I'm glad your giving some updates about this upcoming Arcadia team. I don't have time to go out and look myself so all I have is rumors and this blog.
I can't recall the St. Francis game but I didn't remember that Walker played terribly. I'm not surprised that Golper got put on his back starting as a sophomore against a line averaging a 6'3 270 pounds across the board.
I hope the pacific league has a good year this year.
also the OL, i think left guard from Arcadia should have been on the roster. I think his name... i have no clue on the actual spelling, I just remember its was irish or something, Mac or Mc Something.
Robison is a stud and we could have used him. Too bad he got hurt, he definelty had some talent.
after a hiatus i am back. dang, i didn't know the west sgv fans were so passionate, continual blogging year round? sweet!
well i just checked out arcadia's practice... seemed pretty disorganized. walker definetly looks like a wr trying to convert to qb. the rb looked like he ran hard but if he's #22 or the same guy as last year, then you gotta realize that he is good for 2 or 3 fumbles at the least, especially in the big games ie Burroughs, Burbank, wasn't it him who fumbled on the 1/2 yd line in the Monrovia game which would have put them up? The linemen looked pretty big upfront but pretty raw atheltic-ly.
What does the Willim kid look like? I didnt see any potential all league talent at wr. I offense definetly doesn't look like the "line up in i-backs and run it down your throat" that arcadia fans are used to. Well we've never had a qb like walker either.
I will be back out next week. looks like BigA and HSFOOTBALLFAN are arcadia backers, im thinking about heading out like wed or thurs, ill be wearing my arcadia hat, it would be nice to share notes.
Home prices are pretty high in Mission Viejo too.
Well Philly B. we will just have to wait and see. Arcadia doesn't have the skilled players, I agree with you, but they do have some kids that are hungry b/c of last season downfall which is not tpyical of an arcadia squad. Plus, some of these seniors coming up are down right dirty, meaning they are blue collar kids, no pretty boys. Lately, some of the new style kids are more concerned about their gear rather than their play.
If arcadia home prices ever drop, then the arcadia football program would benefit greatly with the raw talnet you are talking about. You know Monrovia is not far behind arcadia, it's expensive to live in Monrovia now. Monrovia's football might feel the affects 5 or 10 years from now.
Arcadia is not all kecan walker there is so mucj more talent on the team than him. Im not saying he doesnt have talnt but you people must not no about the other players on that team.
hsfbfan,
If potts would of gotten hurt possibly business would have gone as usual, but then everyone would have known what we would be doing which would be run the ball down everyone's throat. But luckily he didnt. but people are giving names and giving me stats against team arcadia shouldnt have any problems with, so like I said one player is all arcadia has, and when I say has, I mean someone that can make a play and be the difference maker of a game. Is arcadia well coached of course, do they have good players yes. BUt they do not have that natural raw talent like schools such as Muir, Monrovia, Bishop Amat, and Damien. These schools are flooded with raw talent, they dont need much coaching for the most part. Arcadia is good becasue of the coaching they receive not cuz their loaded with talent, this is why I say its all on Walkers hands, he is an exception, he has talent.
Philly B,
I know for a fact that arcadia has players across the board, not just walker. Big A has pointed players that will lead the team too. If Potts got hurt last year, I am sure Monrovia would have gone on, business as usual.
BigA,
Please dont talk about how a Defensive lineman got 4 sacks against PASADENA HOW IS PASADENA HIGH SCHOOL????? Please give me a break, we'll see what happens this year, and arcadia in my mind is one player and if he gets hurt in the pre-league games then yes SCOUT arcadia is done you can quote me on it, thats if he gets hurt, hopefully he wont, cuz I dont wanna any arcadia fans using that as an excuse
didnt orozco see time at kicker last season? he's a tall boy, maybe tc will finally have a qb that can actually see over the line
I know Do will be the main threat but i think they should use the reesner kid on offense more
the next tc qb will most likely be morgan hatch, but sebastian orozco is stepping it up and it is gonna be a close battle. orozco is one of the top recievers also watch out for him. Will DO will be the next ram running back if u had any questions. like it says 2000 not 1000
Now that we're completely off the All Star Game topic... i want one question answered.
Who will be TC's new QB?
I know the rams are mostly known as a running team, but their QB last year surprised people and affected the outcome of some games... South Pasadena knows what im talking about
Arcadia's big boys Walker and Golper will have to get past Saint Francis before they can make it too league. Just looking at that game those two got rocked. If you look at the film Golper must have been flat backed at least every other play by SF fullback Darryl Carter and i look for the same results this year with Evan King at Fullback. And everyone knows how terrible Walker played.
Steve Grady is back on Loyola staff as an assistant. Didn't take him long to come back.

I meant to specify at the QB position. I have heard no rumors of another 6'5 QB at Arcadia. I found the article and i cut the clipping...it states:
Kevan Walker, the son of UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker, looked solid in his moves and catch ability. Committed to Minnesota, UCLA just recently offered Walker. It was UCLA assistant coach Eric Scott that offered him, not his father.
Another 2009 prospect to watch is Todd Golper from Arcadia. Sidelined from the testing with a minor back injury, Golper shook it off during the drills and more than held his own. Golper could also be a fullback at the next level.
- Brandon Huffman

^^^^^^^^^^^
(Who is that?)
Anyways, Walker obviously has some skill because he was considered in the top 5 receivers at the Scout combine with over 300 p
articipants.
WHy are all you you so set that all Arcadia has is Kevan walker they are way deeper team than just walker. If walker gets hurt it doesnt mean that Arcadia is done at all Arcadia might be a small team but they go way deeper than just one player
Philly B,
I can understand your feeling on the QB situation at Arcadia. If Walker goes down, they will be in trouble. Your killing me with all this attention to just Walker. A friend of mine knows Brandon Huffman of Scout.Com who does the write ups. One of my friends showed me an article about two Arcadia prospects (when I find the articles i will post them) . Whoever the second prospect is, he is obviously hidden or unknown .
I feel as though Willm will have a big year but people underestimate their D-End Casey Picard. At the Pasadena game, he had 4 sacks, while he dominated the line putting pressure on Crockham.
As I said before, Apaches will be in a tough slot if Walker goes down.
Philly B,
Kris Robison was the number#1 option and leader last year for the apaches which you'll see in the all star game in july. Big A will probably agree. Walker wasn't the star nor leader. When robison got hurt, Walker had a chance to step in and assume his role, but he didn't.
This is only my opinion and I hope he can step in this year and take over.
Most of our line plays both ways so yes it can be done
Former 1994 PHS star Chris McAlister (Ravens) played both ways as a QB and safety. Desmond Reed played Receiver, Cornerback, and RB on both sides of the field. Not to mention, Punt's and kick-off returns. Only play makers make plays on Friday nights. I know some linemen who played D-line and O-line during the entire game. So, c'mon... is very possible.
DAWG
Fan,
Common now. Playing both ways in high school is really not that tough, especially for a D-1 commit like Walker. The deepest of teams have their D-1 guys go both ways. That's why those teams are so good. Best players are always out there. Loyola did it with Ware. Amat with McCutcheon and Minor. Mater Dei with Grutegud, etc. I'm not an Arcadia fan, but I think Walker will be just fine.
Philly B,
It looks like Monrovia will be in good shape at QB. Obviously, whoever steps in will have very little varsity experience, but he looked good from what I saw. Plus, Monrovia looks to have some good receivers and a run game that will be sprung by a well-coached offensive line and physical running backs.
My biggest concern was that it seemed like we were really focused on throwing deep fade balls, and I would really like to see us work more slants, stops, outs and skinny posts.
You guys say arcadia has all this help for walker but if this is so why didnt arcadia win league outright? Good question I know, Im not saying arcadia will be bad this year because they will not, but what I am saying arcadia fans better pray to whoever they pray to that walker doesnt get hurt or it will be there season you can quote me on that if Im wrong but Im sure walker is a strong kid playing both O and D. BUt they have to think about burroughs and muir if they wanna win league. And since the muir game is at their house I dont know if muir is that easy to beat at their house. also burroughs has been strong and I expect them to be strong again this year so we'll see if Walker can pull it off. And unless someone makes 1st team then please dont bring that to me, because 2nd team doesnt win you league, at least thats my opinion on that one. And I'd also like to know who will be carrying the load at running back for monrovia and T.C. and if they found a coach yet for the rams if you got the scope fill me on that one.
why would u ask if walker is tough enough to play O and D? he did so last year every game at WR and CB and FS. he also took back kicks and this year he will be doing the same...and also taking back kicks. and he has the players around him also to help
Philly B,
You can't forget arcadia has 2nd team all area safety Eric Willim returning who had 80+ tackles. He also plays WR. Walker will need help and he has it. I wonder if walker is tough enough to go both D and O.
How's Kendall Boggs doing? Did he amount to anything? He's talented. Daro Johnson will probably be the starting running back, correct?
TChomer;
coach74coach@yahoo.com
So New York,
You saw both monrovia and arcadia's spring ball huh? Well Do we have a quarterback worth talking about this year, Im sure we have alot of skilled players. BUt who will be carrying the load at starting running back.I really think we need a face for middle linebacker as well. You say we have a lot of players but I hope alot of them can play because last year we got hurt a little bit with injuries so I hope we can have starters as well as backups that can go in a make a play. As far as arcadia goes, Walker will be the key to arcadia's success just as I figured and if you shut him down you down arcadia. I wonder did they fill the spot for the head coach for TC??? As far as the all-star game I've never attended one before but I plan on attending this one we have alot of talent on the west as well as the east I hope it will be a good game
I can't give you my real name for a reason or two. However, drop me your email and I'd be obliged :P
Wow, is good to see Jeremy Ortiz accomplished such great honors. Good luck @ ASU Jeremy.
Congrats!!
'ol line coach (JV-TC '04)
DAWG
what about Jeremy Ortiz he is the best Long Snapper in the area how come they never pick one of those? He is Back to Back Mid Valley Long Snapper of the Year on a Back to Back Rio Hondo League Championship team. He is going to Arizona State
Tchomer;
Thanks for the props! I remember when Broadnax was coming in as an 8th grader. Dwight talked highly of Des and correct me if im wrong, Des and Dwight get along great. I wish Des Eric Reed lots of luck this season and I hope that Desmond takes the next Teddy Ginn & Devin Hester's spot-light in the near future.
So, TChomer whats is your real name? You know mine. Please utilize DAWG on the blog. Thanx
My younger brother resides in Miami and he is proud to be a RAIDER fan.
Go Bears!!!!
DAWG
Peterson WOW
Broadnax not too shabby either - that is going to be the best running combo they have every had.
Broadnax is not on the same level has Desmond Reed, but he is still better than Sushi. Sushi ran scared in last year all star game.
Coach Alonso I can read your posts a mile away :P
"Desmond Reed was small" Yes, he is small. Broadnax is smaller, Broadnax didn't play DB anywhere near the level Des did...Des has/had the CA INT record. He was recruited to be a DB at USC and was switched to tailback. Broadnax doesn't have the luxury of being great at two positions. At the HS level Broadnax was a beast at Tail though. Like I said, I wish he had the size to compete at a higher level because watching him was a complete joy for me.
Desmond is gonna get some real PT this year and I can't wait for people to see the level he competes at. Not just plays, but COMPETES This guy is a true competitor in all facets of the word. He really deserves his shot and its been a long time coming due to injury and a wall of legit pro prospects. Given an opportunity, Des will excel, period.
BTW, Coach Alonso, Teddy Ginn is the new Devin Hestor. All hail the mighty Dolphins =]
Desmond Eric Reed is a true RAM and will always be recognized as one of the best athletes to ever wear the green/gold and the RAM helmet. Des played four years of varsity football and finally was placed at the running-back position in mid-season during RHL against SM-in his senior year. He had several punt/kick returns and his senior year against Arroyo, which was the first game of the season, Des returned the opening kick-off for a touch-down!
Desmond Reed #22 ROCKED the SGV and holds two college champioship rings with SC.
Touch that!!
In addition, look @ Des this fall when he runs all over the bruins... watch out Devin Hester, #22 is bringing the game to you.
DAWG (Bears Fan)
Desmond Reed was small.
For as small as Broadnax is he is very physical and has the best stiff arm I've seen at the HS level. Tremendous season he had despite missing 2-3 games. I just wish he was slightly bigger because he could be a force in College if given the opportunity.
Ponce looks good on the video but if you look at his stats he threw too many INT's.
i have found Nick Ponce's highlight tape but its pretty fuzzy but still good

I wish Mooney would have pulled him at half-time against Monrovia...haha!
broadnax and peterson are one word great.
temple city had a great running back dwight broadnax is a crazyu running back. Lets so west.
broadnax had 220 carr and 2,200 yards 30tds in 10games and was out 3 games at half wow is all i can say he is a play maker.

BigA,
I'm not familiar enough to know who's whom. However, it does look like Arcadia has their fair share of ballplayers.
Dawg,
Good job out there.
actually nick ponce from arcadia threw the td and the two point play for the east that article is incorrect
Broadnax isn't bad at all, very good, although he had a great O-line. Thanks for that youtube highlight.
Is Rambeau from Arcadia related to Ian from TC?
FOOTBALL Camp Alert!!!
Superbowl Champion Jason David is promoting his personal skills camp at Charter Oak HS on June 16th and 17th. Jason just signed a 4 year contract with the Saints. The camp will open for youth players from 14-18. I have further info regarding the camp.
Jason played for Charter Oak HS a few years ago and holds several records there.

When and where will the practices take place for the West? Are the practices open to the public>?
DAWG
New York,
at arcadia's practice how did Amhaz, Golper, Walker, Rambeau, Picard, and Willm look? Were any players hurt? Love to hear your input...thanks!

***EAST ROSTER JUST ADDED***
I like the O-Line and the RBs. If Roxas plays (Freddie?), this could be the best West offensive line in some time. I hope all you Westies go out and watch these dudes practice. That's a lot of fun in itself.
And, I hear that Mr. Robledo might be taking a very active role in the coverage of this year's game.
By the way, Saile Ramirez knows what he's doing at QB.
SAILE RAMIREZ GETS IT DONE. thats all i gotta say. you can doubt him if u want but he will be factor in the game.

I'm not too into pop-culture, but it is absolutely shocking and disgusting how much the N-word gets thrown around by music "artists." It's too bad that Broadnax and Rambeau chose songs like that. I'm not saying that those kids have bad character or anything like that. I do think it is sad, though, that so many people have fought so hard to get rid of that ugly word, but it just reappears in a slightly modified form. The other thing that is sad, is that there will be some people who defend the context in which those songs use it.
I had the priviledge of watching Arcadia’s and Monrovia’s practice today (probably one half of each team’s practice). Coincidentally, I saw Arcadia’s defense and Monrovia’s offense.
I know that I am a Monrovia guy, but I do have to give the early edge to Monrovia. Although, I really liked Arcadia intensity and I like the way the defense communicates.
Both teams appear to be well-coached. They have very different practice organizations, though. Arcadia ends at 4pm and Monrovia ends at 6pm. Arcadia has no uniform. Just wear any workout gear you like. Monrovia looked the part in their spirit packs (although I would like to 86 the primarily black color-scheme as that is not school colors). I mentioned I liked Arcadia’s intensity. That’s because their linemen were virtually going live in individual drills and then a lot of intensity during team drills.
Overall, though, the only thing that really mattered since they are still in t-shirts and shorts is this: Monrovia simply appears to have more football players than Arcadia does right now. Although, I’d say that Kevan Walker is the most complete looking ball player from either school. Coach D. was right to make him the QB. A kid who looks like that should touch the ball EVERY time.
I’m looking forward to this year’s match-up.
Sorry to distract from the all-star thread.
here is a highlight of dwight broadnax

*Only article from last weekend all star game.
Davon House of Palmdale is selected as the WEST MVP.
In a much anticipated match-up. The WEST took control of the ball game immediately and never let go. The EAST had several opportunities but came up short on them all. Kris Robinson of Arcadia took the opening kickoff back 60 yards for the EAST only to be tackled by the turf. The WEST took over and marched down field to score on their first possesion. Rian Williams of San Fernando scored on the next possesion on a 45 yard pass reception to give the WEST a 14-0 lead. The WEST added a safety before the half to make the score 16-0. Davon House of Palmdale made several key tackles, pass break-ups, and two timely interceptions with one ending an EAST drive in the endzone.
The EAST was led by Lance Mitchell of John Muir High. Lance had 10 receptions for 172 yards and the only EAST touchdown. Armon Binns of Pasadena High added the 2 point conversion on a pass from David Potts of Monrovia to make the score 16-8 late in the third quarter. The game looked as if it would go into overtime but the pass rush of the WEST was too strong. DeAndre Bowman of Taft high sacked Steve Miller of Verdugo Hills on fourth down to end the game.
I hear every one taking about running backs, O Line and QB, but can any one shed some light on the D. New York??? I am suprised Arnold did not make it!!!! i did not see the Pasadena HS Mike LB either, he was a stud.
From what I hear Bury, Saldana and Quigley are headed for NAU. ben Verreen's son is headed for Berkeley, but no one from La Salle. They will try to walk on. I don't know if it's 100% sure that Casey will walk on at V-Tech. Kohorst is headed to USD on a "Beisbol" scholarshp, Wesley Riley is headed for Southern Univerity where he will continue to hone his track skills. AJ looks as if he is also going to pursue Track and Field, since most D1 programs snubbed him in Football. He ended up making the CIF SS Finals and placing 7th overall in the shot put for D4. I will look forward to seeing him strap his helmet on at least on more time.
Yeah i heard about Saile Ramirez. He is a good QB.
and to the Anonymous guy that posted that blog... we have some quality QBs representing the west. Ramirez who threw for over 5,000 in the last 2 years, Lance Mitchell of Muir, although i dont think he will be gettin many reps at QB simply because he is going to OSU to be a DB. And you aslo have Potts, I have seen this kid play and i believe he is one of the better QBs in this Valley although he dosent have breakthrough stats but he came along way and he knows how to win football games, and he is a 3-year starter at Monrovia High
GOODLUCK WEST!!!
For those who don't see anything below Huntington Dr. with the exception of TC, Saile Ramirez of SGH threw for over 5,200 yards in his two years at the helm of the most prolific offence in the SGV for the past five years. And by the way that also included 30 TD's by air. So just because you never heard of him lets not assume the position will be a liability. He is a big strong kid that can put the ball where it needs to be. I hope the coaching will be better than the jokes who had it last year.
hey cubano and the other la salle boosters, where are the other guys from lshs headed in the fall??
casey's going to v-tech, that's awesome, i hope he does well by it.
anyone coming to berkeley?
Dawg,
Things looked good the other day. I liked the amount of reps your guys were getting. Not too much standing around.
Luke Collins of St. Francis... wheres he?
Saile Ramirez..? whos he? where did he come from.
Do you think the west is lacking in QBs? They do not have true talent at the QB spot this year. Unless their is a late addition...
Casey Hilland was definetely a force on both sides of the line at 6'3 290 lb. He earned All Lleague honors as part of the taleneted O and D Line for La Salle. He is going to V-Tech, but not on an athletic scholarship.
wassup New York>?
See u @ Big M football.

Saile Ramirez
Hsfbfan,
We are definately the only constant Arcadia fans. Robison looks great on television and the games I got to see. Speed, quickness, heart all in one player. I felt awful about not seeing him play his whole senior year being healthy but he will be great.
That other highlight is a little different but he still is a bit slower than I expected. There is no doubt he is a football player though.
I heard Hilland was trying to walk on at V-Tech. Best luck to him.
Big A (Mr. Texas),
Are you going to the East/West game? We have one, robison, and he's exciting when he touches the ball..you know that already probably from the arcadia cable channel, it's nice. It's seems like we are the only arcadia fans on this blog.
By the way, here's another Rambeau link. The other highlight was quite bad and it didn't do him justice. Tell me what you think. With arcadia's year round weight training program, he could develop into something special.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKrmndVQuh8
NY,
Tate was something special. Big and fast. Outcome he didn't workout in the NFL. Wasn't he in NFL europe?
Will Hilland play o-line at Va-Tech? If so, have AJ bring him to practice. We need that type of guy.
Duarte's staff coached the West in 1997 (Leon Ward was D-Coordinator). They ran some wish-bone. Probably would have been more effective with Tate lined up at deep I.
Hess is supposivley having surgery
casey hilland is a la salle senior #76 i believe
Good Luck Brian Soumakian!
Have fun at the GAME>.

Split-backs and a 3rd back in the backfield at the Hall of Fame game. Do I see the Wish-Bone Offense with Dwight and Lavelle as split backs and add on Shawn Sparks to complete the Wish-Bone. MANG-BANG!!! That's what Im talking about.

Broadnax,Broadnax,Broadnax he is the best i love him
dwight is a great running back and is very smart in the way he runs i cant wait to see what he dose for the west. Size dose not mean anything i have seen this guy the ball and he is no joke he will pop the big run when you dont think he will do not sleep on this guy. I wish the best luck to both teams.

Who is Casey Hilland? Does he live locally? Why isn't he playing in this game? Good luck to him.
even though he's not on the squad, casey hillind has one of the brightest futures right now because he is headed to frank beamer and v-tech. i've heard from several sources that he has a scholarship and he has a good chance of seeing good PT this year.
Fan,
Just because I usually pay more attention to the offensive line does not mean I would overlook one of the all-time great true I-backs of this valley. Of course, I would typically choose our own Akil Harris, but I felt like spreading the love.
The West line up is very impressive. The O Line looks excellent if indeed Roxas plays. It also has Soumakian as an O Lineman, one of the best in the SGV. The run game should be unstoppable, in addition to Peterson and Broadnax, it also has Bury from La Salle at 230Lb. he is no shrinking violet and proved a handfull for many of the teams that played against him.. I look for the Roxas/Jimenez combo to be a killer one, specially if they run Jimenez at TE his natural spot. I can just see it: Student Body Right! There is some room for posession type passing with AJ at TE and with Babb as a deep threat, the West squad can keep the East on their heels. I imagine AJ will see action on both sides of the line, he won honors as the Camino Real League Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Year. The defense will need to play solid and I am a bit concerned about that side of the ball. The absence of Arnold may have an impact, perhaps some one in the blog can appease my worries about the D.
I will also miss not seeing Quigley in the line up, as a Lancer Faithful I thouroughly enjoyed his gritty performance on both sides of the ball.
I am looking forward to this contest and pray that it will be a highly contested but clean game with out any of the shennanigans that have mired some of these game in the past!
Good luck to all the players and coches and congratulations!
I like the idea of utilizing a pounding run game. That usually takes patience, though. Coaches need to be happy with a four yard gain. Eventually they break longer, though.
Why does this roster include players from Garfield, Bell Gardens and Salesian?
NY and Real HS,
I played against Tate. He was a house and real athletic too. I remember when he hurdled our corner for a first down, he jump about 5 feet over him and made him look silly.
Don't know many details, but I understand Ponce played last weekend in another All-Star -type game. I've also heard rumblings of him trying out with Citrus College???
Robison is a stud. It's a shame Kevin Hess cannot play. I am surprised Ponce declined. Those are the three Arcadia kids that should be playing but are not.
Walker will be a senior next year.
NY,
This o-line looks good probably the best since our last win in 2001 or did we win in 2003?
Last year line was terrible.
what about walker from arcadia. how did he not make it?!?! isnt he going to minnesota on a full ride
Ususally arcadia has 3 to 4 in the all star game like last year, but since we didn't do so well, maybe next year apache fan. Although, I believe QB Nick Ponce was invited but declined and someone on the blog said Kevin Hess has surgey going on.
how come theres only 1 player from arcadia what about there qb and the saftey
NY,
You remember Adam Tate from alhambra high who played for Utah. Dude was good. Man, I don't believe most of these people know who he was, but I am surprised you remember such a good RB.
Run wild on the East
Lavelle!!!! Good Luck.
See you at the college games on Sats.
DAWG
Broadnax is small but he is an excellent runner
Aside from Lavelle, is there another physical runningback in the mix. That picture makes Broadnax look small. Is there an Adam Tate type of back around?
is there a website for the game???
is there a website for the game???
KILLER SQUAD... CANT WAIT TO GAME DAY. !!!
HURRY UP & WAIT
Jermaine Thomas, Wendall Jackson and Kris Robison should be the three fastest kids on our squad.
Harris from Duarte would have helped out our O-Line alot. Too bad.
Lazy coaches
man lets get it on and poppiin.
Here's where our thoughts of lacking SGV coaches come into play. I saw Coach Murphy at the MHS game today vs San Jacinto, they lost, and asked him some of the questions posted here on the blog. Here's what's crazy! Armon Binns--never nominated. Tilman from Muir--never nominated. Harris from Duarte--never nominated. Albert Arnold--never nominated. Eric Brooks--never nominated. I think you get the gist. Coach Murphy said they were only allowed to select a maximum of three players from each school which is what kept some athletes from being selected. So considering all this, I'm pretty impressed with the West roster. I like the idea of Lavelle running behind Roxas and Jimenez though!
can wsgv fans come see these practices? and where will they be held?
I agree with your run idea. I didn't see all on the players on this roster, but I did see Babb. If they can get the ball in his hands he can be a huge difference.

BTW, where is Armon Binns of PHS? He should def. be on here. What about Rashad Tillman of Muir. Both are first-team All-Area guys.
WSGV Staff:
This list doesn't look pretty, so bare with me for a sec. If we want to get a "W" for the first time in a long time, please pair Jimenez (LS) and Roxas (SF) together on either side and run behind them with both Petersen and Broadnax. Drive the ball down their damn throat. I know our weakness over the years has been the ability to run on the east, but I simply don't see any burners on our list to pass or hit the outside with. Obviously you've got to mix it all in, but I would love to see us just beat the hell out of the east at their own game.
I could be absolutely wrong here but that's the best option I see.
What about Harris from Duarte?
What about Quigley from La Salle, Sherman and Hirshman from Poly, Albert Arnold and Brooks from Monrovia.
Really too bad about Hess.
Kevin will have to get his tonsils removed shortly before the game. The coaches wanted him but he isn't able to play because of the surgery.
What happen to arcadia's Kevin Hess?
Peterson and Dwight in the same backfield will be awesome.
