Division III
Friday's first round
WC winner (La Reina (TriValley No. 3) or Bonita (Miramonte No. 3)) at Arcadia (Pacific No. 1 after winning coin toss over CV.
Note: Apaches got what they wanted, the league's No. 1 entry and a home game in first round.
Only problem is they could potentially meet Garden Grove in the second round, and top-ranked Oaks Christian in the quarters.
Division V
Wednesday's wild card
Alhambra at Rim of the world with winner facing Silverado (Desert Sky No. 1)
Workman at Rio Hondo Prep with winner facing San Dimas (Valle Vista No. 1)
South Pasadena at Baldwin Park with winner facing Fillmore (Frontier No. 1)
Sierra Vista at Pasadena Poly with winner facing LA Baptist (Olympic No. 1)
Friday's first round
Top Half
Schurr (Almont No. 2) at Monrovia (Rio Hondo No. 1)
Westridge (Prep No. 2) at Malibu (Frontier No. 2)
Bottom Half
El Segundo (Pioneer No. 3) at Mayfield (Prep No. 1 and No. 3 seed)
Northview (Valle Vista No. 2) at Temple City (Rio Hondo No. 2)
Division Note: Monrovia not seeded while three teams from the Pioneer League (North Torrance, Pioneer No. 1, is #2 seed), Torrance (Pioneer No. 2 is No. 4 seed) and El Segundo (No. 3 entry from Pioneer League is the No. 3 seed, will play Prep League champion Mayfield in first roun. Not only is Monrovia not seeded, they could have a potential huge second-round game against Valle Vista league champion San Dimas. You know who's sitting pretty is South Pasadena going the wild-card route. If the Tigers defeat Baldwin Park, they will have a good shot against Fillmore in the first round, which means they could play the Mayfield-El Segundo winner in second round. (Randy Medina is still fuming). Temple City has a winnable first-round game against an Almont League team and could give LA Baptist all they could handle in the second round.
Division VI
Wednesday's wild-card
Sacred Heart (Horizon No. 3) at Ramona Convent (Sunshine No. 3) with winner facing Cantwell Sacred Heart (Camino Real champion)
Marshall (Alpha No. 3) at Gabrielino (Mission Valley No. 3) with winner facing No. 2 Woodcrest Christian (Big Sky No. 1)
Friday's first round
Alverno (Horizon No. 2) at Windward (Delphic No. 2)
Lancaster Desert Christian (Desert Mtn No. 2) at SG Mission (Horizon No. 1)
Division note: Alverno's forfet cost them the No. 1 entry, but playing on the road in the first round against a winnable opponent isn't so bad considering they will likely be at home in the second round against possibly Notre Dame Academy, which will be tough. They might also meet Paraclete, the Alpha League champion and top seed in the quarters, so the forfeit to Mission was costly in that respect.

I think some SP fans were upset because Alverno cancelled their games with them because of a dance, and then did not try to rescedule. This was a bummer because it costed the team two games. And, Alverno had been ranked above them all year and if SP beat them, like they did twice last year in similar circumstances, then the rankings would have been more clear and it might have given SP a good enough record to not get a Wild Card draw. However SP could have also lost and be in worse shape.
Anyway, it is way over now and people should probably get over it and pull for them to be successful, and stop focusing on the forfeit situaution, that sounds like an honest mistake.
And yes Poly really lost, they probably didn't call it in to the paper.
did poly really lose , I did not see anything in the paper ????
Thank you to all who attack Alverno for the great laughs. Especially those who attempt to make the Rio Hondo League out to be a "powerhouse" on par with D1 schools.
Alverno had a nice season against competition of their level. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. They don't need to compete with that "mighty" RHL. By the way...take away Monrovia and the Rio Hondo League would not even compare with the Sunshine League in Girl's athletics.
Alot of you "adults" to use the term loosely need to get over yourselves and applaud all of the student athletes for their efforts.
according to Max Preps Poly lost 3-8 to Sierra Vista of Baldwin Park.
What happened in the Poly game today?
Looks like the road to getting a ring wont be easy for the ladycats softball team, that sucks how things got put together but this is a real test if they really deserve a ring for CIF. BUt then again I can see why Medina is mad since he did win league right? Well we'll see what happens
In addition to the CIF infractions, not to mention, Alverno should have 2 more recorded losses due to forfiet for not rescheduling the 2 games they canceled for bogus reasons vs. South Pas.
Alverno only seems interested in playing poor competition in Div. 7 and their "good" pitcher is seldom challenged vs. even half decent competition.
Alverno wasn't even a top 4 final team in the Duarte Tournament which is always stacked with poor competition.
Unlike Monrovia, Temple City, and South Pasadena who have really challenged themselves beyond the Rio Hondo League all season vs. very good competition.
SP beats Baldwin Park, Nicole Parada throws a no-hitter and is one Hit-By-Pitch away from a perfect game.
The real victim is the team that has to play Alverno in the first round. Drawing Alverno is a terrible second-place draw for a team. That's why I don't like forfeit wins and losses to factor in, especially if all the players are still active.
B.D.
Before you call Alverno a cheater, make sure you have all the facts!! I'm not an Alverno fan. From what I heard it was a bad decision by a couple of players, who played in a Rec. league All-star game. The school turned themselves into C.I.F.
Just to explain something to the Alverno comment, they are a number two seed in there own league as a result of getting caught using ineligible players,a.k.a. cheating, they are lucky they are in the playoffs at all.
Monrovia, like any other team will have to go 5-0 to win the whole thing. Furthermore, depending on our seed we either play the "tough" teams earlier or later. This is the playoffs. There are no weak teams, not even the Frontier teams...haha.
Regardless, the champion goes 5-0 (wildcard goes 6-0).
what is everyone talking about? Monrovia is seeded #5... The polls are as follows...
DIVISON V
1. Hesperia
2. North Torrance
3. Torrance
4. El Segundo
5. Monrovia
6. LA Baptist
7. Serrano
8. Silverado
No respect for the Frontier League (Fillmore) again Fred. Tell New York that the bandwagon will be there for any Rio Hondo-Frontier showdowns.
I would agree that Monrovia earned more repect than shown-The Lady Cats would have beaten El Segundo at least once, but the Pioneer is a tough league this season.
Watch how Santa Monica and Culver City do in the D3 and you'll see how the Pioneer earned respect.
CV is also a team that got no respect-they have a very tough draw.
At least the CIF did a good thing by making the Burbank teams earn their way into the playoffs after backing in to 3rd and 4th place in league.
Let me note this huge correction, which makes more sense but still doesn't give Monrovia the credit it deserves after advancing to the semifinals last year and finishing 20-3 this season.
Monrovia is not seeded while three teams from the Pioneer League (North Torrance, Pioneer No. 1, is #2 seed), Torrance (Pioneer No. 2 is No. 4 seed) and El Segundo (Pioneer No. 3 is the No. 3 seed), which will play Prep League champion Mayfield in the first round.
That was the mistake, Mayfield was not a No. 3 seed, rather incredibly, it will have to play a third place team considered the No. 3 seed.
Two of Monrovia's three losses came against strong upper-division foes and they still get no respect in the West San Gabriel Valley...
Ah Fred just to note LA Batist will have to get by Poly which beat the Number 3 seed in the division (Mayfield) and was second to Mayfield in League. A match up of Poly and TC would be a much better game than people think.
Anyway just to weigh in Monrovia should be ranked ahead of Mayfield - no dis to Mayfield, but Morovia is the best team in the area and Mayfield was one inning (7th)from being in second place to Poly in the Prep League.
Along with Monrovia, how can Alverno be unseeded. What do the people at CIF use to determine the seeding? Is it by who their drinking buddy is or by a dart board.
I can't beleive that Monrovia is not seeded. I don't care if you are a fan of Monrovia or not. But when a team goes 20-3, they deserve some kind of respect.
Fred,
Is VILLAGE CHRISTIAN playing? I thought they were OLYMPIC #3?
Is that the same Mayfield team Maranatha mercied 11-0 ?
Monrovia should be ticked and will take it out on both Schurr and San Dimas!
Fred -
Wierd, but...I think El Segundo is the 3 seed in Div. V. Three teams from the Pioneer League have the 2, 3, and 4 seeds (see latest rankings). A third place team, on the road as a 3 seed. Not much respect for the Wildcats.
Arcadia,Pairings are rready at CIF site.
Fred
who won the toss, Arcadia or CV ????
