FOOTBALL: Games that make you go hmmm

Tough tests coming for Mustangs, Bulldogs.
Muir High School opens up its season on the road against CIF and state champion Oaks Christian on Sept. 7.
On the same night, Pasadena hosts CIF Southern Section champion Dominguez.

Question: Do either one of these teams have a chance for a victory? And how devastating would a blowout loss be?

Heavy Underdogs: The Mustangs will need a perfect effort to updend Oaks Christian.

By the way, is this a picture of Muir's JV team from last year?

I by no means am a fan of the PUSD, but lets get your facts straight. The API index for PHS and Marshall is above every school in the area except Arcadia, La Canada, So. Pas and San Marino. Do you think those schools have the same types of students as PUSD (Social economics) So when you compare apples to apples, the district's high schools, with the exception of Muir and BLAIR are providing a pretty good education.

Regarding the suggestion that PUSD close Blair.

Is the problem or concern with too many high schools within PUSD or is it with the education the PUSD high schools provide? I think a lot of students and there parents opt out of PUSD schools for private or other public schools because of the abysmal accademic record of PUSD schools. If the education provided improved, school populations will increase and there will be a residual improvement in athletics.

I said all that to say that closing Blair would only be a temporary solution to the school attendance concern.

Stang Fan,

Why do you respond to dawg's house 07 posts? It is a no win situation. I guess Im just getting tired of you smashing HS. Lets smash talk during Tussle week...then the gloves come on. Believe me Stang Fan. I here it from my wife all year long... she's a Stang.

PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE THE ORIGINAL "DAWG" FROM THIS BLOG WITH Dawg's house '07.

I appreciate if all of the bloggers can make a note of this misunderstanding.

I may even add an additional W and make it

"DAWWG" just to avoid any misreads.

I hear you bro. It's not that i don't back my team or support them, I'm just trying to keep it as real as I can. I'm a realist during discussion, but I'm undoubtedly an optimist at kickoff.

P-Fin:

Unfortunately, I agree with you. In years to come, if we can somehow get our numbers back up (PUSD please shut Blair down) I truly believe that we can compete with these teams again. But again, if Muir pulls off the shocker of the past few years......wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew, many bloggers will HATE me.

Dawg's House '07:

Bro, look, your team is cute. They'll win a few games. They'll lose a few games. They are average a best. No line. No RB to speak of. Decent passing game, yet they'll miss Armon BIG TIME. The D is improved with a good LB corp and decent DB's, but again no front four at ALL.

Frankly I don't know why I'm responding to your ignorant post; I guess I'm not as smart as the rest of the board who have completely ignored you. If having a negative, yet honest, opinion about my team's chances versus a strong powerhouse makes me a "b****" well then I guess that makes me a ................dawg. Oh......now it all makes sense. That's why every year at the Tussle the HS players quit or get injured during the fourth quarter. Thanks for clearing that up Dawgs' House 07.

Stang and DAWG--

Sincerely love your posts and insights. The team can't hear ya though. I think the difference boils down to coaching. Dominquez and OC are deep deep in coaching and have the advantage of recruiting. I put both teams as 15 point underdogs (at a minimum) and there is little reason to think otherwise despite their personnel losses. Sorry but you both know inside that I speak logically.

We all know that PHS will never play Monrovia HS due to the shooting from 1985.

Here are my HS match-ups: Muir vs TC, Monrovia vs Arroyo, Arcadia vs Charter Oak, Los Altos vs OC, and
PHS vs San Gabriel.

No one will ever replace Ricky Ervins, class of 1987. Ricky kicked butt @ SC and with the Redskins. Back in the days, some kid punched Ricky in the chest and the puncher broke his hand...how's that for a tough guy?

HS is gonna beat Dominguez! Yeah and Tuscon will someday host the Winter Olympics.

i agree with you stang fan.

lol no matter how much i love i love my mustangs, i have to say they are gonna get are gonna get a loss..but if you look at OC, they have a new people at almost every position since the previous class was soo good.. all i know is that oaks will be easier to play against this yr compared to the past two yrs... the most likely have a good o-line, decent recivers and a really good running back... so if you asked me.. the score is gonna be 49-14...its not gonna be 36-0 at halftime...but on the other hand i think phs is gonna get thundered by dominguez.. im not even hating on them..but dominguez is one of those programs thats is gonna hve a very good tema yr in yr out...the game is gonna be over at half, thers no way phs can stop that offense and i dont think phs has the talent to even score on those guys....i predict a 63-0 blowout like last yr...sry doggies but u know its true.

Just how good is Willie Youngblood? If you were around in the 80's he has clearly resembled one of Muirs all time greats Ricky Ervins. Does he have the chance to be worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence. What do college scouts think about him at the next level?

New York said:

Stang Fan,
If the stars align and Muir beats OC, you will have plenty of crow to eat. You can bet that I will give hyou crap for not backing your own team. You're in a tough position now!

I sure won't praise Dena and Muir for putting these guys on the schedule. I would praise Muir and Saint Francis if they would schedule each other in order to finally put these less than prestigious local rankings to the test.

But it is never good to get beat by 60, knowing that it would have been 100+ if the other coach did not play his subs's subs.

Yes, schedule a tough pre-season, but don't put your players into a situation where keeping the score reasonable can be considered a "victory."

BLOWOUTS FO SHO!!!!!!!

Stang Fan said:

I praise both schools for scheduling top notch competition. This is how you get better and how you get back on the map (if you perform well).

With that said, it is quite doubtful that either of these teams will win, unfortunately. I think athletically they can most definitely compete, but when it comes down to the fight in the trenches neither team can keep up with the likes of OC or Dominguez.

I do believe Muir's game will be the more competitive of the two (surprise, surprise) and it'll be intersting to see who loses by less. I really hate to talk like that, but I'm keeping it as real as I can.

BTW, if Muir does beat Oaks Christian.............well, let me just say, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE in the SGV can say a thing to me for a loooooooooong time.

LET'S GO STANGS!!!
