PREP SPORTS WRITERS STILL NEEDED

We're still looking for correspondents to cover Friday night football games, as well as some Thursdays and Saturdays. We generally don't ask that you write too much, and in some cases will just ask that you call in the box score with a recap of the game. You will receive a press pass to cover the games from the sidelines or in the press box, and be paid a small fee for your time. If you're a journalism major or thinking about it, this is ideal. If you're a football junkie who can spell, this will be great for you also. To be considered, please send an email with your contact information to set up an interview. scott.galetti@sgvn.com

Kudos to you! This is a really good blog here and I love your style of writing. How did you get so good at blogging?
Get your tevos set for Fox Sports Network FSN showcasing inner city hs rivalry games. This fall they will run stories staring with the tussel. Oh yeah, this will be amazing. They showed a 2 to 3 minute preview on the hs preview show this weekend. They interviewed former Muir players Chad Brown and Marcus Robertson. Marcus commenting on how he skipped football his freshman year to concentrate on the drum corp. This will be an amazing and well done story. Stayed it is expected to air Sept 14th.
Same here. I'm sure that's the image a lot of Mustang faithful would like to preserve.
My first memory of muir was Saladin MuCullough with his gold helmet.
Good point. What happened to the classic Muir gold helmets?
stang fan, talk about unis bro!
you guys traded the classic gold and blue for what, this new age yellow helmets and "hurt my eyes they're so terrible" blue jerseys! and the yellow jerseys?! please!! jk!
but all kidding aside, when arcadia played muir in the day, circa 2000, it looked like norte dame vs usc for the pacific league title. coach d has kept up with the times and got us to the updated usc look, where is muir? bring back the real gold helmets and the white jerseys and gold pants.
man, talk about the right call at the right time. i remember when st francis got us two years in a row on last second plays. one was a fumblerooski and one was a draw up the middle for almost 70 yards for the win! those times were ROUGH!
this year will be a better year for arcadia, believe that. im willing to do a in-n-out wager. ill be at the game, what about you ny? dont the wildcats have a game that week? we may have to delay our wager til the week after...
Stang Fan,
I agree arcadia will have a great chance this year, but I disagree that SF is average. They are still the best team in the valley until proven otherwise. Bonds always seems to come out with the right plays at the right time to nail arcadia year after year. It's probably his old UCLA playbook.
Ny, if arcadia wins I'll take a dbl-dbl, everything w/ grilled onions and a coke.
Vice-versa, SF wins i owe.
Not hating, just lazily looking at the track record against the state's best 3-7 team!
Which Herrington is at Alemany? I know that a couple of the Herrington brothers were looking after Hart's trophy case the past several years. I'm sure they are both happy that Canyon Country's coach Welch left for St Margaret's.
NY:
Do you really think the Apaches are THAT bad? Bro, I honestly believe that Arcadia wins this game. If SF wins I would by no means be surprised, but I believe that the "worst-uniform-wearing-team" in the area, also known as the Apaches, are going to come out victorious this year. Everyone will see how average SF is this year. Albeit, they do play the hardest schedule by far, so they definitely deserve a high ranking locally, but don't be surprised if SF goes 3-7 this year. I foresee SF losing to Arcadia, Los Altos, ND, Loyola, Chaminade, St. Paul, and a MUCH improved Alemany (with Bonds boy Coach Herrington at the helm.)
I guess that makes me look like as much of a SF hater as you look like an Apache hater. LOL!
Frank P:
Sorry for the dig on the uni's, and I know it's of the least importance, but I'm sorry I've always hated those things.
Fine Frank. Let me take your money on this one, or at least a Number 1 with grilled onions, no tomatoes and animal style fries.
woah new york, i wouldn't go that far to say we warm up st francis.
the games are still pretty competitive. im sure st francis still has butterflies going into this one.
what are we, 10 days to kick off? cant wait!
Frank,
No hard feelings. Written dialog is difficult to interpret sometimes.
I agree with you regarding the SF/Arcadia matchup. This game has really turned into a Week 1 scrimmage/warmup for SF. I don't even think it deserves mention as game of the week. I'd love to be a betting man over there and take all the foolish money from the die-hard Arcadians on this one.
new york, im sorry if my posts seem a little abrasive. i hope there are no hard feelings. i've been re-reading our blog posts and my tone just seems wrong.
the st francis v. arcadia seems to be a great week 1 matchup. im going to be honest though, the apaches need to win this one a few more times before it becomes a real rivalry for both teams. however, this year, it just feels different.
its good to get a little affirmation from the outside when the local newspaper makes the game the game of the week.
sept 7th, cant wait!
I see some of you haven't changed a bit. Scott's been pretty busy, but I believe like every week one for the past few years, Scott will be on the sidelines for the traditional Star-News game of the week opener, St. Francis-Arcadia.
Frank,
The part that starts with your name is directed to you specifically.
The entitlement is directed to whomever is asking Scott for his "To Do" list as if he is Scott's manager.
i just want to get one thing straight.
was this pointed at me?
"I think bloggers have developed an obvious sense of entitlement."
Hey Galetti?
What's da pay man?
I bet Scott's editor does not ask for this many deliverables. I think bloggers have developed an obvious sense of entitlement.
Frank, the walker article was pretty much an Arcadia preview.
Scott,
Can you give us a rundown of who you will be covering on what day this week and probably next week?
Thanks!
and for the 10th time, i have no qualms with the players' size at arcadia. just the sheer number of participants.
i believe in coach d and his staff to get the job done like he has been for 10+ years.
i'll let the rest of the apache nation speak for themselves but those who have been out at practice feel the "little asian kids" who come out have dont more than their fair share in helping the team.
remember joe hua and paul ahn at arcadia. both pacific league linemen of the year!
c'mon observant cat, give me a break!
are you saying that kevan walker isnt one of the most talented players in the west sgv? he has a real chance to put his name up there with the all time greats.
he is a good kid with his head on straight. he is a hard worker, a tremendous athlete and has the makings to become a great football player.
i never said to forget the other schools and focus solely on arcadia. i never said that nor do i want that. all i've asked is when arcadia is going to get their due, if we even are getting one. you see, i'm not trying to assume anything.
the thing is that i've asked this question already twice and i get the feeling scott is avoiding my question. you could tell me that arcadia isn't even getting a season preview and i'll just wait until gameday.
its just that every morning i wake up and check this blog and psn.com like many of the apache nation do. it almost feels like christmas. i've been getting a lump of coal every day for the past week and a half. im waiting for my elmo!
Come On Apache Fans...Give Scott a break!
We had to endure two Large 20 mega pixel photos of Kelvan Walker for about a Month and a half..you would have though that he was the Whole Arcadia football squad. Let everyone else be seen. I dont even remember South Pas's Colors or San Marino's for that matter. Scott is doing a fair job of spreading the 15 minutes of fame....Everyone know's what happening over at Arcadia (Higher GPA, more CPA, and less DB's and RBs......let the season begin Maybe its a good thing we dont see the practice reel.
I'll be there with New York for the Bishop Diego or Villanova Prep vs Monrovia final.
scott, why are you avoiding the apache nation?
are you covering us or not?
its ok if we dont get a video report. i hope we do, but its ok if we dont. i just want an answer to my question.
I'll cover the Monrovia-Arcadia game as well as the Monrovia CIF Championship game...
Sign me up.
when does arcadia's preview come out?
are they even getting one?
