It's once again time to put our heads together to decide the winners in Week 5.
A mediocre week of picks for yours truly in Week 4

Week 4 Galetti 10-6, Total 51-22-1; Calpreps 12-4, Total 51-21-1 (one no-pick)
The Pasadena Bulldogs close out the weekend at .500. How does this happen? Well, it seems that West Ranch used an inelligible player in its win a week ago.
But hey, 2-2 is better than 1-3 no matter how you slice it?

Question: How good is Dietrich Riley? All the expectations of him being one of the best wide receivers around, but he is turning out to be one of the area's top running backs.

Rams press on without ailing coach
By Scott Galetti, Staff Writer
TEMPLE CITY - School has been in session and athletic practices have gone on as scheduled at Temple City High School.
At the same time, this hasn't been a normal week.
The Rams football team, struggling after a 0-3 start and playing without its star player Will Do, got the news over the weekend that it would be moving on without head coach Randy Backus, at least for the time being.
Backus had been diagnosed with prostate cancer over the summer and had surgery on Monday.
That same day, boys basketball coach Rich Hollinger also had cancer surgery after he discovered a lump two weeks ago.
Both coaches went home on Tuesday and Backus was happy just to be back on his feet.
"My wife and I did a great deal of research (after being diagnosed) and decided the best course of action would be the removal of the prostate at the City of Hope," Backus said. "It was done robotically which is the latest procedure, and I'm actually up walking around. But I won't be able to coach or teach for at least two weeks."
Temple City athletic director and acting head football coach John Van De Veere said Hollinger actually paid a visit to the school on Wednesday.
"Rich is in good spirits and we're all hoping for the best," Van De Veere said.
Backus will learn more about the success of his procedure today, while Hollinger will find out more over the weekend.
"They'll do an MRI this weekend to find out if the cancer has spread throughout his body or if they got it all," Van De Veere said. "They're probably going to perform chemotherapy or radiation, but they haven't made a decision."
After Backus informed his team of the situation on Saturday, the Rams have done their best to overcome the initial shock of losing their coach.
"Saturday there were a lot of emotions from the players," assistant coach Eric Sepulveda said.

The Skinny
The top game in the area this week, without a doubt, is Los Altos at St. Francis. Another intriguing matchup is South Pasadena and Alhambra. And of course, Pacific League play begins, so every game matters.
Question: How should the rankings look this week?

Arcadia's head coach on Dimalante walks his team onto the field before its game against Lynwood. (SGVN Staff Photo Keith BirminghamSXSports)

Alhambra's Anthony Brown rambles 79 yards for a touchdown run in the first half against Arroyo. (SGVN Staff Photo Keith BirminghamSXSports)
1. Arcadia - Beat Lynwood 33-21.
2. Alhambra - No problems with previously unbeaten Arroyo 42-14.
3. St. Francis - Held off late Burroughs rally 21-14.
4. Muir - Finally got its offense in gear in a 47-6 win over Jefferson.
5. Monrovia - Dropped a tought 21-14 loss at Beckman.
6. Pasadena - Roughed up in 41-22 loss at West Ranch.
7. Rosemead - Earned an impressive 35-21 win over Northview.
8. San Marino - Titans roll to 55-14 win over Workman.
9. San Gabriel - Matadors collect huge 41-20 victory over Temple City.
10. Blair - Vikings beat up on Hoover 45-10 for third straight win.
Friday's Results

Alhambra High School's Anthony Brown runs for a first down during the first half of Friday's nonleague game. Alhambra won 42-14. (Keith Birmingham / Staff Photographer)

Alhambra 42, Arroyo 14 - Anthony Brown (200 yards) and Dushine Smith (231 yards) run wild to the tune of 431 combined yards and six touchdowns. I'd say this team is for real. The line has been dominant the past two weeks.
Beckman 21, Monrovia 14 - Two big plays and a pivotal turnover prove costly for Wildcats.
Bosco Tech 13, La Puente 0 The Tigers improve to 3-0.
St. Francis 21, Burroughs 14 - Kyle Morgan and Joey Orlandini come up with late sacks to preserve narrow win for Golden Knights.
Flintridge Prep 18, Campbell Hall 13 - Flintridge Prep continues its impressive run.
South Pasadena 20, Glendale 17 - Jonathan Troast throws for 206 yards and three touchdowns to pace Tigers attack.
La Canada 19, Gabrielino 7 - Spartans get 221 rushing yards to earn their first victory of the season.
Mountain View 12, Keppel 6 - Aztecs stopped inside the Mountain View 5-yard line late in the game.
Rosemead 35, Northview 21 - Panthers used a couple of big plays to break 21-21 tie.
Ontario Christian 16, La Salle 15 - Knights get 93-yard TD run late in game to send Lancers to 0-4.
Muirrieta Calvary Chapel 31, Rio Hondo Prep 14 Kares a surprising 0-3 to begin the season.
San Marino 55, Workman 14 - Lobos not match for streaking Titans. John Trawick runs for 196 yards and three touchdowns to lead San Marino.
San Gabriel 41, Temple City 20 - Matadors bounce back from first loss with an impressive win over struggling Rams.
Muir 47, Jefferson 6 - Are the real Mustangs back after last weeks disappointing setback?
Saturday's Games
Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson 55, Marshall 0 - Eagles fall to 0-3.
Maranatha 40, Poly 19, - Injury-riddled Minutemen respond in first home game under the lights.
Some thoughts:
Moors coming of age:
Alhambra truly impressed me on Friday against Arroyo. I picked the Moors to win, but had no idea that it would be so one-sided. The Moors defense came up with a goal-line stand and took the Knights out of the game with Brown and Smith. Olivarez struggled at QB, but didn't need to throw. South Pasadena is the next challenge and the Tigers bring a talented line of their own. Should be quite interesting. By the way, Alhambra actually took three points off the board. After a roughing the kicker penalty, the Moors had the ball inside the 10 and decided to go for it on fourth down with the reserves in, thus not re-kicking another field goal.
Bulldogs lose to second-year varsity school:
Here was a game where I changed my pick after thinking about the athletes Pasadena has. Crockom, Harrison and Ikner are among the most talented players in the West San Gabriel Valley. West Ranch, however, ran the ball at will against the Bulldogs (very un-Santa Clarita Valley like).
Golden Knights edge Indians:
St. Francis narrowly escaped Burbank with a win over Burroughs. I was surprised the Golden Knights weren't able to rout a down Indians team. I'm looking forward to seeing St. Francis play Los Altos. This should be a great game.
Good guessing:
I was called to the carpet about my picks in one of the posts. The score (Galetti 13-1 on Friday, 2-1 on Thursday, Calpreps 11-3 on Friday, 3-0 on Thursday). Not bad for guessing. Had I stuck to my guns, I originally had Pasadena and Flintridge Prep is making a believer out of me.

The Skinny
The biggest area game this week, perhaps, Arroyo invading Alhambra to take on the Moors. Another intriguing matchup is St. Francis at Burroughs. I like the Golden Knights in this one. And I'll go with Rosemead in a big battle with Northview.

With so many schools out there, I thought I'd ask for some assistance in finding out about who had a big week in either girls tennis, girls volleyball, boys water polo, or cross country.
Thank you for your help.

I made some changes to the poll asking for more specifics on who should drop out. Feel free to post what you think is the top 10.

Friday's Results
Alhambra 47, Temple City 0 - Do's absense had something to do with Temple City not scoring, but Brown and Smith are the real deal.
Arcadia 41, Monrovia 20 - Apaches appear worthy of area's top spot again.
San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret's 56, Maranatha 14 - So much for the much-awaited rematch of the CIF title game.
Eagle Rock 32, San Gabriel 13 - No surprise as Eagle Rock wins its 15th straight victory.
San Marino 35, La Salle 32 - Titans come up with huge goal-line stand in fourth quarter to preserve victory.
Franklin 23, Muir 20 - Ok, I wasn't expecting this one. The Mustangs go from competing with Oaks Christian to falling flat. Giving up 23 points in the fourth quarter won't get it done.
St. Francis 31, Crescenta Valley 10 - Golden Knights respond from loss to Monrovia in a big way.
Bosco Tech 49, Workman 16 - The Tigers find themselves 2-0 after another impressive win.
Brentwood 14, Rio Hondo Prep 0 - The season's not starting out the way the Kares expected it to.
South Pasadena 21, Hoover 19 - A closer game than I expected.
Poly 39, Marshall 20 - Neil Child was 9-of-10 for 175 yards and a TD to lead the Panthers.
Gabrielino 40, Keppel 6 - Big win for Gabrielino after a pair of losses.
Saturday's Games
Flintridge Prep 21, Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson 14 - If this score is correct, that's a big win for Rebels.
Rosemead 32, San Jose Piedmont Hills 29 - Koffler's Panthers knew the way to San Jose.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the last thing I want to be is a gatekeeper and I want this to be a forum where everyone can talk about their teams, get into solid discussions and even have heated debates.
All I ask is that we keep it clean. Comments with obscenities are not welcome and may be deleted.
If you want to bash me for my picks, I'm more than OK with that and expect it.
But it's not cool to bash the kids. This is high school sports, not the NFL.
There's a difference between comments being critical of a team and bashing.
So fire away, but please try to keep it clean.
