I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Alhambra #3, San gabriel #4 what a joke.......
Schurr will crush both teams this year.. before you say we lost to Alhambra last year which is true.. they choked in the playoffs as usual and we will have two(2) rimgs by the time this season is over........
I agree with Scott. Dominguez is a tremendous team with some incredible athletes. There are no less than ten Division I prospects on the roster. Pasadena lost to an excellent team and I believe they still have the talent to show up well by season's end. Go Pasadena and Muir!!

most everybody is stoked to see the Moors looking strong. As far as the "old days" remember that could mean 4 Horseman old, not 5 years ago. I think some folks had high expectations to see a powerhouse performance in week 1...and that did not happen. One early game means zip in the scheme of things. Their skill will show as the weeks roll on. Nobody is hatin' we're just waitin'.

Bro, no one is hating on Alhambra ball. Fact of the matter is that they had a poor game against Glendale, who was 0-10 last year. They have a chance to reedem themselves vs TC friday night.
i agree with game-over & sfhs92 how is mills ( phs head coach ) still coaching scott ? the guy is on probation for endangering kids and he can still coach ?
pasadena school district needs some changes before they start losing more kids in the district. we are all on this blog
everyday talking about who is gonna win & lose but , what about this concern about this coach on probation still coaching at pasadena high school ? would all you guys want your kids playing for this man ? scott speak up ! you guys had mills on the front page of the star news and he could not be around kids or the campus the whole spring that just passed but , he is the head coach. so , we might as well let all convicts get coaching jobs and be around or kids.

PHS has played tough competition and if HW beats Burroughs next week, they'll look even better.
Taking a shot at tough competition is a good thing, but it is still a loss. Burbank has played Oaks Christian and lost big. I believe that Burbank has even scored more points on OC than Muir has, but in the end they were losses.
I agree with game over. How is Mills still coaching? Does he have a teaching job also? Educators need to be held to a higher standard and be an example and role model to the young men and women that they are teaching. It is a shame that the pasadena school district still lets this man have a job.
Game-over; I know it's a new season, but do you really think that any of teh teams that you listed could be Dominguez? That school is 27-3 in the last three seasons, counting this year with back-to-back CIF titles. Their only loss last season was a close one to Loyola.
I used to watch Burbank play against the Foothill League powers, including a couple of years ago when they had a solid quarterback.
I'd be shocked If they could beat Dominguez.
Dominguez lost to Corona Centennial, the top team in the Inland Division and is still No. 1 in the Western Division with a 1-1 record.
I'd say Muir might have the best shot against that team. St. Francis didn't seem to have a lot of team speed other than Riley.
Then again, it was only Week 1.
By the way, the team that Pasadena lost to in the first game actually feels it has the team to knock off Oaks Christian this season and is No. 3 in the Northwest Division.
Again, Pasadena might not belong in the top 10, but they didn't lose to chopped liver.
yeah i agree with Stang Fan on his comment, lets just sit back enjoy the season, wait until league starts and see how far our schools get into the playoffs. Nachos anyone?

Chances are 90% of us didn't have a clue. You have to start somewhere and base it on something. As far as I know no formula is anywhere near 100% accuracy, especially at this early stage. At season end I am sure some hilarious laughter could be had by all.
Anyone who criticizes Scott's top ten should sit down and try and put a list together from the unimpressive collection this area has to offer so far in this very young season! The best teams will prove themselves but who should rank where at this point in the campaign is a “your guess is as good as mine” proposition.

Pasadena has lost to two teams that would probably have their way with most of the area teams.
why is PHS still on the top ten ? they suck ! some of the players quit this week and they only had 21 players.
besides , why is mills (phs head coach)still coaching ? i thought he went to court and is on probation for locking two kids in a room and letting them fight ! no wonder they dont have any players. if he was at arcadia or st.francis he would be fired but, pasadena has a messed up school board . IF THAT WAS ANYONES KIDS THEY WOULD BE MAD. LETS TALK ABOUT COACH'S THAT SHOULD NOT BE COACHING .
TC does not deserve a 4th ranking, but they will following Fridays game.
Monrovia at 7th? With that talent load? If they ever morph into a team, quickly invert the rankings or simply put the "M" at top center and wait and see if they implode.
Is Arcadia that good?
By ranking SF below TC, are you saying that Arroyo is better than Arcadia? It looks like Monrovia has stayed flat in the ranking...do one win and one loss cancel eachother? I do think that Monrovia would throttle Alhambra and San Gabriel but who cares. On our side of the valley, the top three spots are all that really count anyway.
Arcadia proved they can beat a traditionally good team. No other team has really proved anything yet. It is still early with most teams having played only one game.
PHS lost to two teams better than Arroyo, yet they have dropped while TC has moved up. I just think there is still a lot of guesswork in these polls.
Maranatha is honored to make your list at No. 10.
Maranatha scored a blow out win last week (remember your headline?) and is now 1-0 going into last year's CIF Final rematch with St. Margarets this Friday night.
And yes anonymoron, I know we are only a Div. 13 team and nobody cares, so spare us this once. Please.
Hopefully we will be 2-0 on next weeks list and not 0-2.

The determining factor on St. Francis is that they didn't overly impress me, given the fact I thought they were far and a away going to be the area's best team.
They still could be, but not this week.
The polls should take shape in the next few weeks. After last week, it's a bit of a mess right now.
In closing, I was so close to putting Muir at No. 1.

Please, oh please just STOP IT! Stop it already! Stop creating polls at the begining of the season if you have NO idea what you are doing. It's one thing for a newspaper to have rankings, which is primarly for fans to discuss and enjoy. It's a totally different thing if you are going to use these polls later on to seed teams in the playoffs. Just wait until the middle of the season and start the poll then when you have a much better idea of what teams are capable of.
Burroughs loses to Shcurr by 20 and they recieve votes. Muir loses to Oaks Christian by 16 and they aren't rated at ALL. Go figure.

Scott does an EXCELLENT job with the blog and any extra WSGV expertise would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I heard you and your pops make a special appearance on the "Crosstown Rivalries" piece that will air on the FSN this Thursday. I sure wish they would have interviewed Danny as well, that voice was always a "sound for sore ears."
Here is my ranking:
1. Arcadia (you ALL know I think Muir should go here, but I'll go with the Apaches for now and wait for this Friday)
2. Muir (honestly, the best team in the SGV)
3. St. Francis (the loss to Arcadia was NOT an upset, period! still a pretty good team with a TOUGH schedule)
4(t). Monrovia/TC (I simply can not choose between the two yet, I'll figure this one out on Friday as well.)
6. Alhambra (I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt in regards to their HORRIBLE game vs. Glendale, PHS could be at this spot though.)
7. PHS (according to every single Dawg fan in Dena this was supposed to be their year, I guess they can improve upon these two losses but they BETTER not go into league 0-3.)
8. San Gabriel (all I know about them is that they pass a lot and they probably have a line that could control the smaller schools)
9. Maranatha (44-0 is nothing to sneeze at, although it did come vs. a team I've never heard of it's still somewhat impressive....I guess.... bottom line, they still beat La Salle.)
10. La Salle (they are on here by default....if Duarte was considered for this list, which they should be because they are west of the 605, then Duarte would have been third and LS would have been bumped off)

I am a big Arcadia supporter but even I don't think they should have the top spot. There were a lot of emotions going into that game. It proves that Arcadia can play with anyone but I still believe Muir should be at the top. Monrovia will be a test as will the game after, whoever that is. Oh, it is Lynwood.

Prety good rankings. I can absolutely sleep at night with Arcadia ahead of us.....for now. One thing though, I have been all over SF, talking about the bad season I think they will have; however, they are still better than Alhambra, TC, San Gabriel, and MAYBE Monrovia.
