FOOTBALL: Week 3 Reflection
Friday's Results

Alhambra 42, Arroyo 14 - Anthony Brown (200 yards) and Dushine Smith (231 yards) run wild to the tune of 431 combined yards and six touchdowns. I'd say this team is for real. The line has been dominant the past two weeks.
Beckman 21, Monrovia 14 - Two big plays and a pivotal turnover prove costly for Wildcats.
Bosco Tech 13, La Puente 0 The Tigers improve to 3-0.
St. Francis 21, Burroughs 14 - Kyle Morgan and Joey Orlandini come up with late sacks to preserve narrow win for Golden Knights.
Flintridge Prep 18, Campbell Hall 13 - Flintridge Prep continues its impressive run.
South Pasadena 20, Glendale 17 - Jonathan Troast throws for 206 yards and three touchdowns to pace Tigers attack.
La Canada 19, Gabrielino 7 - Spartans get 221 rushing yards to earn their first victory of the season.
Mountain View 12, Keppel 6 - Aztecs stopped inside the Mountain View 5-yard line late in the game.
Rosemead 35, Northview 21 - Panthers used a couple of big plays to break 21-21 tie.
Ontario Christian 16, La Salle 15 - Knights get 93-yard TD run late in game to send Lancers to 0-4.
Muirrieta Calvary Chapel 31, Rio Hondo Prep 14 Kares a surprising 0-3 to begin the season.
San Marino 55, Workman 14 - Lobos not match for streaking Titans. John Trawick runs for 196 yards and three touchdowns to lead San Marino.
San Gabriel 41, Temple City 20 - Matadors bounce back from first loss with an impressive win over struggling Rams.
Muir 47, Jefferson 6 - Are the real Mustangs back after last weeks disappointing setback?
Saturday's Games
Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson 55, Marshall 0 - Eagles fall to 0-3.
Maranatha 40, Poly 19, - Injury-riddled Minutemen respond in first home game under the lights.
Some thoughts:
Moors coming of age:
Alhambra truly impressed me on Friday against Arroyo. I picked the Moors to win, but had no idea that it would be so one-sided. The Moors defense came up with a goal-line stand and took the Knights out of the game with Brown and Smith. Olivarez struggled at QB, but didn't need to throw. South Pasadena is the next challenge and the Tigers bring a talented line of their own. Should be quite interesting. By the way, Alhambra actually took three points off the board. After a roughing the kicker penalty, the Moors had the ball inside the 10 and decided to go for it on fourth down with the reserves in, thus not re-kicking another field goal.
Bulldogs lose to second-year varsity school:
Here was a game where I changed my pick after thinking about the athletes Pasadena has. Crockom, Harrison and Ikner are among the most talented players in the West San Gabriel Valley. West Ranch, however, ran the ball at will against the Bulldogs (very un-Santa Clarita Valley like).
Golden Knights edge Indians:
St. Francis narrowly escaped Burbank with a win over Burroughs. I was surprised the Golden Knights weren't able to rout a down Indians team. I'm looking forward to seeing St. Francis play Los Altos. This should be a great game.
Good guessing:
I was called to the carpet about my picks in one of the posts. The score (Galetti 13-1 on Friday, 2-1 on Thursday, Calpreps 11-3 on Friday, 3-0 on Thursday). Not bad for guessing. Had I stuck to my guns, I originally had Pasadena and Flintridge Prep is making a believer out of me.

Thursday's Results

MAKING A MOVE: Arcadia's Troy Ahmaz ,22, runs for a first down in the first half. (SGVN Staff Photo Keith BirminghamSXSports)
Arcadia 33, Lynwood 21 Apaches wake up after early scare.
Blair 45, Hoover 10 Devin Fuller rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns in the win as the Vikings improve to 3-0. He also added a 57-yard touchdown catch.
West Ranch 41, Pasadena 22 West Ranch dominated on the ground. Pasadena did outgain the Wildcats 401-316, but the game was never in question. The Bulldogs couldn't cash in on some early chances and West Ranch took care of business on its opportunities.

Incredible Publish! I had been only assuming that there's a great deal of amiss results within the area you now definitely updated my opinion. Reading through an excellent piece of writing.
Thanks DAWWG, you're a class act.
I love how everyone refrains from mentioning San Marino's game against La Salle when they are criticizing SM. I believe that SM showed great character coming back from an early 14-0 deficit. Then a goal line stand when La Salle had 1st and Goal from the six. Also a 4th and 2 QB sneak for the win? La Salle is NOT a bad team, I seriously hope they come and beat one of the teams in the RHL to show what I mean.

What are you basing your post on - were you there? Why do you assume it was Maranatha folks who did what you are claiming? and if you indeed do have factual information - why post on a sports blog and stir it up - why not go directly to the school with your insinuations? Please think before you post - and show a little class
anon 4:40 -
Did you really just link a school's christian values to the actions of some petty thieves?
ScottG - why would you allow something like this to stay up on your football blog?
Who has a taake on Los Altos at St. Francis? "Home Cookin'" gonna be the difference?
I have noticed a few folks have posted St Francis and Rosemead in the same sentence labeling both as possible "contenders" in the region. How does SF compare to the Panthers?
I bet most of you would know why I would have an interest.

Deductive logic, objective thought, and untested reasoning makes this BLOG the best Prep news SOCAL has to offer.
The ultimate test take place on Thurs, Fridays, and Sats.
Maybe Blair is utilizing their game plan to a level that that has been reliability tested that SPEED kills on any given day within the Prep arena.

mcsheckydawg:
You speak the truth!! PREACH ON!!!!
I love reading the WSGV blog. You all are seriously entertaining. It is interesting that there are several teams that just roll through this blog untouched by comments. Let's also remember that these are kids. Any negative comment should not be directed toward a player. Just a thought...Many of you are far too subjective and too close to (fill in the blank high school) to be OBJECTIVE. Can't we all just admit that this is not the WSGV of the past? It is also easy to say this or that about a school or a league, but the proof lies in how leagues and teams do once they get into the CIF playoffs. If a league places three or four teams into the playoffs and they all advance to the quarters and beyond, then you have a stronger league. If all three or four are bounced early, that means you have a weak league. This is the true test of strength of teams and leagues. At this early point there are far too many pretenders and not very many contenders. The biggest two pretenders are in the RHL.
A few pretenders:
San Marino (will be undefeated going into game against SG)
Blair (schedule too soft, but winning needs to be learned - smart scheduling doesn't equal a good team)
A few contenders:
Duarte
St. Francis
Arcadia
Rosemead (tough pre-season schedule)
Alhambra (can't ignore last two margins of victory)
Monrovia (still one of the most talented teams in the RHL)

First off this is the first I’ve heard about this. I’m always leery to believe a post from someone who posts under anonymous but as a Maranatha faithful and a booster’s board member I will contact our athletic director Monday morning to find out what happened and what’s being done about it. Please remember there we’re many people who attended the game last night that were not part of the Maranatha family. I know that there was security hired to assist with last night’s game on and around the field.
I am truly disappointed in what happened at Maranatha last night off the field. During the first half of the game, someone stole the majority of the Poly players cell phones and wallets from the locker room. Not a good reflection of the Christian values supposedly preached at Maranatha.
Well a couple of questions were answered at last nights MHS v Poly game. The Minutemen can win with QB’s Schilz and Clash out for the season and RB Mark Love still out with the hamstring injury. Yes, it was a win against a not to strong Poly team but a win showing that this team is not giving up. After going into half time with the score tied the Minutemen put it together in the second half. The defense will need to stay strong and keep opposing teams from scoring. Luckily the two key league games, Brentwood and Whittier Christian come at the end of the season. This should give time for sophomore QB Beckwith to mature and become a leader. I for one am looking forward to see how this team grows with all the adversity it has faced so far.
P Finchamp, glad you made it and thanks for stopping by at half time. It’s always great to talk to you about high school football. I’m looking forward to the rematch with RHP and hope we can make it a game this year.
Stang Fan
You beat me to it. I couldn't agree more. Maybe 5 legit area teams that one could call good or talented, Muir, Arcadia, Alhambra, Rosemead and St. Francis. Yes I said Rosemead and Alhambra...
Blair looks good, and is getting better. Nothing could be healthier for football in the RHL, and maybe they WILL be in the mix for the top spots in league play.
But I think I've read about three times now that "Blair is playing the same teams they always have, but now they're pounding them."
I think the larger point in questioning their schedule is not to play the same teams...but to play someone tougher!
How about a preleague schedule that includes, say, Rosemead and Arcadia and San Gabriel?
Thanks, sgv. Sorry for the typo and for hitting "post" twice.
Stang 4 life,
I have to agree with you a bit but I also disagree. The pacific has some pretty good talent this year. I know the QB for Burrougs is being touted by such schools as Stanford. Youngblood is very well known as is Austin Daniels who had a blow up spring. At Arcadia you have Walker who is comitted to UCLA and Golper who is being recruited by ^ and others. I find that pretty good, but it is still as great as the past teams were. Those players have div 1 talent so I have to say they are trying to compete in that regard. Arcadia is the only pacific league team representing right now.
Not that it matters, but the Maranatha-Poly score was 40-19.
RHL Fan:
"Mighty" RHL? The "Mighty" RHL? You can't be serious. The "mighty" RHL? Is this a joke? Are you speaking facetiously? Do you enjoy using oxymorons? Or, are you just a complete moron? Your traditionally best two teams are a combined 1-6. "Mighty?" Your team, La Canada, lost to one of the Pacific's bottom feeders, CV, and tied potentially the worst team, Glendale. South Pas? No good. San Marino? Non-factor. Blair? Surprisingly better, but "mighty".........uhhhhhhh...no.
"The RHL is moving up." Really? Moving up where? The list of sorry leagues? Listen, bro, I don't know how you came to the conclusion that LC could compete with Muir on the football field, but that is a completely thoughtless and assinine comment. Muir would beat the dog sh*# out of La Canada. We would simply destroy......you know what let me just stop right here. New York, my bad, I did it again...I got drawn in...my fault.
Let me just say this. Both the RHL AND the Pacific league absolutely SUCK this year. Neither deserve to be deemed as anything more than average. The top of the Pacific is better than the top of the RHL and the bottom of the RHL is better than the bottom of the Pacific. At the end of the day though it doesn't matter, neither are representing like we'd all hoped they would.
I just wished that our bloggers would stop posting dumb-a$$ comments that make our blog look ridiculous. Yes, RHL4life, that means you!
Maranatha, 40. Pasadena Poly 13.
I can't understand teams saying they should be higher ranked than Blair becuase Blair doesn't play tough competition. Blair is playing the same teams they have always played except they are pounding them. Muir played one of the lower level teams in the state last week and lost! Yet you really think they deserve to be ranked higher than some of the teams in the RHL? Maybe you can rate them higher than Blair but not every team in the mighty RHL. The RHL is moving up. I'd love to see LaCanada and Muir go at it in ANY sport. We would love to play Muir in Basketball and Football.
Scott G.
Why is the Scoreboard not being updated for the Saturday night games?
With a three-man front it's not surprising that the Cats can't stop a rushing attack.
That's why the DBs get sucked up for run support and then get burned on pass plays.
Another flavor of the month strategy. I suppose it could be effective if there were no confusion.
La Canada's defense played sharp football against San Gabriel on Friday night. The defense dominated the game and only gave up a touchdown in the last couple of minutes of the game. This team will do better than most expect and the great defensive coaching is a big reaosn why.
The Real Hsfbfan
I love how you don't mention the shootout with La Salle? The great defensive stand? How the Titans came back from an early 14-0 deficit? All you say is that Workman and Keppel are bad, but did we not blow roll workman out 55-14? Which is what you're supposed to do against a bad team?
That Monrovia D-line is doing great.... last game, they had pressure on the quarterback all day.....
this whole season
Darwin Winfrey(Jr.)- 9 solo tackles, 3 assisted and 1 sack
Fransico Luna(Sr.)- 8 solo tackles and 1 assisted
Josh Lowden(Soph.) 13 solo tackles 2 assisted and 3 sacks
thats pretty good considering that Monrovia does a 3 man front so their double teamed most of the time
TC and Monrovia are struggling, but have played some pretty tough teams! Monrovia just looks young! TC just looks like they have no depth.
Monrovia still has the speed to hurt slower teams but need to work together!
TCs OLine looked pretty solid last night against a tough SG Defense! They look well coached up after a couple shakey weeks.
All in all, I think TC/Mon. are still in the hunt for the 1 and 2 spots in the RHL. TC has to improve Defensively, but they're OLine and run game look really good at this point!!
I wasn't at the Monrovia game last night but from what I heard, Monrovia's D has'nt made the adjustments from the Arcadia game to stop the playground trick plays and they lost a very one sided game that was in their favor. But from this point on I think it will be down hill for MHS. The Rio Hondo league hasn't seemed to want to schedule teams that match the speed of the wildcats and thats going to hurt them all. By the Way Duarte won 85-0 and was winning 71-0 at halftime of their game, I caught a piece of their game but it was over after the first 5 minutes.
I can only hope that monrovia beats SM to put these hyper, no thinking, SM fans to rest. Please tell your AD to schedule better teams. Who do you have next week SM, Keppel? Any team in the valley would be 3-0.
P Finchamp:
Wow an 0 - 3 start. Not the team of the last couple of years but the match is on in two weeks!!
You coming to the MHS v Poly game tonight?
Look me up. I'm running the concession stand
rio hondo has played brentwood who is number 2 in the northeast division and calvery chapel who is number seven. Flintridge has played bell-jeff who was number 5 and campbell hall who was number 11 in the same division.
Anonymous--
Flintridge win Prep League?--When they play someone, especially a ranked opponent we'll see. That is something RHP has done each of their first three weeks. We'll have to review your "RHP has no players" comment in a few weeks, right? What a set up...
New York--
So you're a Raider fan too?
Dear South Pas fan-I appreciate your loyalty but the tigers ain't no app st.!!!
the only upset at moor field will be how upset you are at the scoreboard.......two words,"THUNDER AND LIGHTENING"-
Will Flintridge make it into the top ten in the cif east vally division poll this week?
It's nice to see Blair and San Marino winning. When we throttle those guys we will finally have beaten winning teams.
My many years as a Raiders fan has prepped me for disappointment.
LaSalle afficianado, MHS lost to good talented teams. Look to go 0-5 next week.
Where are the Monrovia fans to weigh in on yesterdays game?
Half-back pass two weeks in a row? This reminds me of Nintendo football where that one play just keeps working. I wonder when that guy will get a clue.
The landscape in HS Football in changing. The small schools are now giving the traditional power
RHP is like any team in the area - when they don't have the players they don't win. And this year they dont't have the players. FP will win the prep league with everyone else playing for 2nd and 3rd.
2nd week in a row that Monrovia gets burned on the half back pass.
I'm not making excuses Dawwg,
"SP" pointed out that South Pas was missing 2 dominant players. I let him know that Glendale was also missing a key player. I figured that if GHS's second string guy could get 250 yards rushing against the Tigers the first string guy could have done even better. It was a good game. I did like the SP passing attack. They passed on nearly every play it seemed. And their defense toughened up when it needed to.
sgv--
RHP has been trying to do things offensively that are not the norm for them. Trying too hard to develop a passing threat. Last night's loss was a 2nd quarter debacle that included 3 interceptions and a blocked punt in the end zone for a score. Second week in a row RHP wins the battle of stats but not the game. Trevor did not play. RHP is still the pick for Prep League team to beat--trust me.
Next weeks game, SoPas v. Alhambra, will be an interesting one. TC got killed by Alhambra and San Gabriel. SP lost by a touchdown to SG. Last year ALhambra was in a similar position, with a lot of hype, and SoPas dominated them. The Moors are at home this year, but could their bubble be burst again? SP's "bend but don't break" defense looks good and their offense seems to do enough to give them a chance to win. Alhambra had better hope that this was not Troast's coming out party v. Glendale. I'm predicting an upset at Moor field. I think SP will open up the play calling and beat Alhambra by 10 points or more for the second year in a row.
Them boy's in Alhambra look pretty good on defense. The two backs get alot of ink well deserve but the kicker and o-line set the tone. When 3 Starters were out on the line they had problems with Glendale. The backs are good but the line might be great..
ITS ALL ABOUT THE 'MEAD BABY!!!!!
Hal Lamaster,
Excuses are like assholes, everyones got one.
Glendale was playing without its best player, their running back. Their second string back Malcom Roberson rushed for 251 yards against South Pas. I was impressed with the South Pas passing game. To me, South Pas looks better than La Canada, but both will have their hands full with Blair.
Alhambra stomped Arroyo so stop talking about how great Arroyo is.
south pas pull out a tough game against Glendale. comin back from 10-0. the defense did really well stopping Glendale on almost every 3rd and even some 4th downs. all without there two most dominant players.
Is that score right: Duarte wins 85-0?
Wow, it's hard to score 85 in practice against the 2nd team defense!
La Salle lost another squeaker tonight, the Lancers really played hard, and deserved to win. Bring on the 'Cats.
blair is only good until grades come out, then it's all down hill from there.... im not trying to bash on them, thats just always what happens...
Blair doesn't deserve top 5 ranking. At best, maybe a top 10 spot. The rankings aren't for the teams with the best record or most points, it is for the best teams in the area. Although Blair is doing well, nobody can think that they could possibly beat Muir, St. Francis, Rosemead, ect. That is why those teams deserve to be ranked higher. If Blair can win against better teams, then they deserve a higher spot. But not until then. They can be 20-0, but if they get those wins against bad teams (we are talking less than 3 wins the previous season) than a team that is better than them should be given a higher spot regardless of their record. It looks as though Blair is certainly doing something right, but they still need to prove themselves. Maybe in the future, they will schedule more competitive teams.
It looks like Flintridge Prep is the team to beat in the Prep League for the first time since its CIF title in 2003.
Looks like next weeks top 3 stay the same. Will Scott drop Muir down for a weak pre-season schedule? The OC game doesn't mean much if it's followed by mediocrity.
Wow, RHP 0-3. I am truly shocked. Any word on whats going on Finchamp?
Does anybody really think Blair can win four games in a row? Please... the class slipper is really real son.
Yeah Dad but what if they smash WC next week, then what will you say...huh?
Blair is now 3-0 and the highest scoring team in the State of California but teams ranked higher than them in the StarNews top ten include:
Pasadena 0-3
Muir 1-2
Monrovia 1-2
Rosemead 1-1
San Gabriel 2-1
Now I know you guys feel like Blair is not playing tough competition but they are simply playing the teams on their schedule, the same teams that gave them problems last year, only they are blowing teams out by averaging a whopping 54 points per game. They have outscored their opponents 159-26 so their defense is not too bad as well. Once again they deserve to be in the top five if only for a week until they get pounded back into reality by Whittier Christian.
Bayou Vol,
South Pas played better this week against Glendale, but barely managed to beat them. Grant it that SP didn't have David Allen (35 tackles in two games) and Will Smilland play in the game and they were able to win. Props to South Pas on not giving up. I still don't know if SP will be able to beat Monrovia, Blair and SM.
Does anyone know if William Do will return this season? I see that SG beat TC tonight.
The Rio Hondo League is definitely down this year, but I still think it is Monrovia's league title to lose.

Congrats to Blair. Another win against a horrible team with a 1-9 record the previous year. YAY!!!!!!!
Bosco tech beats la puente 13-0 i believe...
why is everyone over looking this fine looking team... i think if they can beat cantwell they will get the respect that they truly deserve.
Has the RHL turned upside down? Could Blair, the long time whipping boy, actually be a factor, as well as SP and SM? The apocalyse is near...
Rest assured that the NY Times SGV poll looks very different from that of the LA Times.
28-0 Burbank loses. Ouch.
the latimes SGV top ten East and West/
1- Los Altos (2-0)…Bryce Mahmud-McBride
1- Glendora (2-0)…How good are they? We’ll find out Friday.
3- Charter Oak (1-1)…Will the real CO please stand up?
3- Damien (2-1)…Only blemish was against St. John Bosco (2-1).
5- Bishop Amat (0-3)…tough, tough, tough, schedule.
6- Diamond Ranch (2-1)…Sloppy 6-0 victory keeps them out of Top 5.
7- Alhambra (2-0)…Impressive RB duo of Brown and Smith.
8- Schurr (1-1)…beat La Habra in playoffs last year…
9- South Hills (0-2)…lost to La Habra badly last week.
10- Maranatha (1-1)…Lop-sided loss to St. Margaret’s, which is no longer a D-13 team.
WHAT A JOKE.
Flintridge beat Campbell Hall 18-13
The only question regarding the Burbank schools is whether Burroughs can back into a playoff spot.
Simi Valley 28
Burbank 0
Given last night's score I'd say Arcadia by 35 over Burbank next week. It doesn't take much to stop Burbank's offense and a team with a strong line can run over them all night long. As long as Arcadia doesn't fall for all the trick plays Burbank will try and Arcadia goes after the quarterback they'll have an easy win.
St, Francis should win by at least 14 over Burroughs tonight if the Knights come to play and Bonds doesn't mess up anything.
PHS has played three good opponents each with different strengths that should get them ready for the variety of things they will see in league. They will be in the mix for a playoff spot. The question mark in the Pacific are the Burbank schools. I figure Arcadia is way in front, Muir second and then Burroughs and Burbank. If PHS can squeeze out a win against the other Bulldogs or the Indians then they will be in the playoffs despite their rough start. I can't imagine PHS dropping league games to CV, Hoover or Glendale.
PHS has played three teams out of their league so far. West Ranch would probably compete for the Pacific League title like Burroughs did last year.
San Gabriel 38
TC 14
Alhambra 38
Arroyo 28
San Gabriel 38
TC 14
Alhambra 38
Arroyo 28
Fred
I think that tip definetly has them going in the right direction but when it comes to a real challenge we will see what blair is really made of. What do you think of some of the other Pasadena Schools since were on the subject?..How About Muir, they seem to be on somekind of emotional roller coaster and Pasadena! what can we say, we only hoped they would get better...I think that Blair maybe the talk of Pasadena but as for the talk of the entire SGV, I think not. Muir plays Hoover next week, if they dont put up at least as many points as Blair did then we can start talking about what's really happening in the PUSD. As Far as Arcadia and Duarte...That would be a great match-up right now. Duarte has much Faster Backs and a much faster and stronger Defense. Arcadia has a better overall game and a much stronger back in Ahmaz QB's are about the same. As Far as Blair and Monrovia are concerned, they wont be able to handle non of Monrovias game especially knowing that the players will be healthy unless something else occurs. I do see Blair as a real contender for 2nd place in the league and seem to have some momentum entering league, but that can and will all change when someone gets knocked down for the first time and remembers he's not on the Jr. high school playground anymore. But keep up the good work on the other side of the Moutain.....Peace out Fred!
GIVE ME A "B"
GIVE ME AN "L
GIVE ME AN "A
GIVE ME AN "I
GIVE ME AN "R"
WHAT'S THAT SPELL
" GOOOO BLAIR HIGH SAY WHAT " SHAKE THAT THANG "
What a friggin homer you are Fred.Have you forgotten just who is always there in the mix.Do you think Blair would do any better then Monrovia against Duarte or Arcadia.Thats what I thought .Nobody cares about your opinion any more so stay on the other side of the fence. We got some Meathead that doesn t even now who the Powers of the valley are .I mean come on Blair and Hoover are the games of the week.No offense Gillete but go back to where you came from and get somebody in there that really knows SGV Football
I know it's early in the season but...
Troy Amhaz has 554 yards on 75 carries.
7.54 a carry. He starts on defense and has 14 tackles.
My leading kid for the SGV player of the year. Some Monrovia blogger stated that they would be surprised if arcadia has someone that rushes for 800 yards this season. Well, he's on track for 2000 yards and might run wild in the pacific, if he stays healthy.
Observant, time will tell. I have the feeling this is Blair's breakthrough season. They always had the football players, but there wasn't a full commitment to the team. Tip's bringing that back along with confidence and pride. They're going to do it, just watch.
gotmeamgo: Yes, I am open to suggestions. And I will give that one some consideration as well.
Thanks for your posts.
I am all for covering varsity also, but I thought you were open to suggestions for future discussion threads -
goteamgo: If you want to post JV on an existing post, that's ok. No offense, but I'm all about covering varsity.

Suggestion - as a new thread in the future(just to give us something to talk about)how about a topic such as "how are the JV/freshman teams doing." Give everyone 25 words or less to keep things short. It will give us an idea of how things are shaping up future wise. I know some people say it is only the varsity that matters, but the JV will be varsity before we know it.
I saw a comment earlier on Monrovia's JV team - if La Salle's JV team gets by Ontario Christian today, next week could have an undefeated Monrovia JV playing an undefeated La Salle JV.
Blair has remained fairly dominant in the first three games. If they work hard enough, they should be able to compete in the RHL. Their speed is the best weapon they have; with a solid defense they could go far.
Go Blair!
pasadena's freshman team has two dominating players aaron simpson and austin lacey these guys are like the awesome two they come to play every game...last weeks game at pasadena high school against west ranch mr.lacey had 3 touchdowns and about 75 recieving yrds...aaron simpson is the leader of the team as a quaterback he threw for 87 yards in the game and rushed for 100 yards this kid is a scrambling quarterback and he can pass..(next game is on 9/27/2007..located at cresenta valley high school at 3:15..come out and watch these guys..)
Realistically,
Blair needs to clean up their penalties and defensively stop the run. Going off the box score, the other teams had a ton of yards rushing in the first half. Did they stop trying to run the ball once the score was too out of reach in the second half? If I were Tip, addressing penalties and run defense would be a huge priority. Of course, those should be huge priorities for any coach on any team, right?
Fred....please stay with your pace....you were winning.
If Blair Faced the teams that Monrovia and TC have played and vice versa you would think that Monrovia or TC would win D-1 and that Blair would take the back seat to all of the Rio Hondo League teams....but time will tell. I think that Blair might beat up on the teams that have no speed but when it comes down to the wire they cant and wont hang against Monrovia..maybe TC if Do is not playing..that could be scary.
Last week I was thinking Blair would finish third in the RHL and finally make the playoffs. Now, with Temple City struggling and Monrovia looking so-so, why not believe the unthinkable, Blair is going to win it all..What a story that would be.

I think what realhsfbfan is saying is that the stats from the Notre Dame/lynwood game are very simillar to the Arcadia/Lynwood game.. but CIF and LA times dont really pay attention to how good and competetive SGV schools are. Even If Notre Dame won by 6 points over lynwood they would still be ranked high above any SGV high school. A couple years ago Monrovia went to crespi to play them in a CIF game and was the Rio Hondo leagues #3 team and barely lost but Crespi was ranked so high that you would have thought they were Oaks Christian. Muir will have to prove what it is made of tonight against Jefferson who will be a good challenge for you guys. The difference with Muir and Arcadia right now is Discipline I would bet my house on the Apaches if they were to play tonight. If Muir gets back to they game I might just bet the Garage. Good luck against the Demo's.
Blair doesn't play Glendale which is just as well. It was clear to me that against Hoover the yellow flags were flying against Blair in bunches. The refs were doing for Hoover what they could not do for themselves especially in the 4th quarter just to keep Blair from going over 50 points.
It will be fun to see Blair go up against the better teams in league. Their speed will keep me in all of the games, I think, even against the top guns of the RHL.
To me, this is not a team like the CIF championship "Blair Pair" team in the late 60s, but they are talented.
If the 200 yards in penalties is true, that sounds like the Blair of old. The score does surprise me and I am happy for the Vikings. I hope they are good enough of a team to use their skill players well against better competition. Let's see how SP and SM come out tonight. This could be an interesting year in the RHL...although it seems that way every year and it is always MHS and TC fighting it out at the end.
Blair O).G. Class of '68. Looks like a new "Blair Pair" for the 21st Century
I still think Blair needs some more challenging teams to play against. I mean 3-0 is a good start, but Im just waiting till league starts to really see who they really measure up to. I just dont see that the teams they are playing are really worth boasting over. I cant see how they have completely changed since last year and Im still not convinced despite their winning streak. And btw, why are they only playing 9 teams this season?
Blair beats Hoover easily...and SP survives hoover by a missed 2 pt conversion? Does Blair play glendale?
Notre Dame lost to Birmingham 28-21. There hopes for a state championship might be over.
I'm feeling Blair more and more every week
It's a Blair World Afterall!
Blair had several TD's called back and over 200 yards in penalties. They were very sloppy but still managed to blowout Hoover. Blair could have scored 70 points easily but didn't seem that sharp tonight. They won't get a win next week with sloppy play like tonight. Nevertheless they are the highest scoring team in the SGV out scoring their opponents 159-26 thru three games. Fuller is the best all purpose offensive player in the state. Don't look now but Blair is 4real. They need to be in the Starnews top 5! Based on record and the results of their games they MUST move past Pasadena.
Wait, Stang4life, Lynwood non-league schedule consist of 3 schools in the PAC 5.
Sorry Stang4life, you have Jefferson, even better.
Lynwood has one of the toughest schedules. They play Servite next week. What's up with your Stangs??? They have major problems given up 23 points in one quarter. Worry about your stangs. Muir has franklin, and I hope they just down quit.
stang4life,
Lynwood had a good back field, two great running backs that were so fast and ran freakin hard. Bring on muir, you'll see.
I was comparing Arcadia to Notre Dame Sherman Oaks. I don't think they are far off. Really I am not kidding. I am surprised just like everyone else.
mr.real hsfbfan
haha, lynwood was 0-2 before playin arcadia.. and you think they are a good team that can be compared to the likes of sherman oaks notre dame... you really want ur guys to win huh...?
i dont think lynwood is "as good as notre dame". notre dame is ranked in the country and i dont see lynwood anywhere near those rankings...so dont be so quick to count ur eggs mr. real hsfbfan. arcadia is prolly good but i think someone even muir (which is not as good this year) will take em out.
Came to the game midway through the 2nd quarter, but this what I saw.
Arcadia played well and beat a Lynwood team with ease. Arcadia is no fluke and is so impressive this year. They played Lynwood has good as Norte Dame Sherman Oaks. Lynwood was fast and had a few back breaking runs, but for the most part, arcadia contained there speed. Arcadia defense held up causing multiple fumbles. This arcadia team should be break into the LA times top 25.
I don't see anyone in the pacific league contending with them, not even Muir. After seeing tonight's game, Muir doesn't stand a chance and Pasadena will get blown out badly.
Troy Amhaz once again carried the load. I would say he had close to 170 yards. Todd Golper looked excellent at LB and TE. He had to have 20 tackles. Kevan walker doesn't run much anymore, but threw some nice tosses. People who said he is the whole team was wrong. Collectively, the whole team are studs. It appeared a couple kids got injured but it's apart of the game. Hopefully, they can bounce back.
JV Update:
Monrovia HS JV team took care of Beckman HS JV.
Score: 25-20.
MHS was down 14-0 in the first quarter and faught back WILDCAT style.
Go CATS...
Congrats to the entire team and staff.
DAWWG
what was the score to the blair game?
PHS has been outscored 116-48 in 3 games. Yikes!!! Now that's what I call a "slaying," right Dog 87 Style.
I just saw Blair easily run past Hoover. Blair's #2 is quick as a cat and dominated as a receiver and a running back. The refs called back two Blair touchdowns to try and keep the score closer. Blair is not a "beefy" team up front but they are quick.
