Thanks for the compliment, that's mighty kind. Unfortunately, I'm probably waaaaaay to biased to do any sort of reporting. Lol!!!
Yes, Van Halen is touring again. Roth went to Muir, Michael Anthony went to Arcadia High and the Van Halen brothers attended Pasadena High. Wouldn't it be nice if they opened their checkbooks and gave their old alma maters a little cashola.
stangfan 04:
That is an excellent post. I wholeheartedly argree with you.
jmhs is the best school in the valley
Go Muir ! Isn't Arcadia the town where they have that big shopping mall? I don't think Muir is going down to a team from a mall.
Yes Pasadena in general is suburban but northwest Pasadena is considered inner city. And if you read the star news you can read about all of the problems that go on in that northwestern corner. Those of us who have to live there know first hand. It's not like were proud of it it's reality. But we are proud of were we come from and we are proud of our school. Go Stangs!
Hal,
I think Van Halen is touring again. Maybe Dave would break Muir off some coin if Stang Fan would reference him rather than Steve Tyler...
no one can stop John Muir's top wide reciever AHMERE OWENS #22 he's going to go CRAZYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!
David Lee Roth attended Muir in the very early 70s. 35+ years have not been kind to Muir. Some in part to the demographics, some in part to the district turning its back on the school and facility.
Stangfan,
We may disagree on your type-cast of Muir as inner city, but I like your style. You'd make a heckuva sports journalist.
Here is my late Top Ten list:
1. Arcadia (Well, if they win this game they have proven themselves against all of the WSGV's best and 10-0 would be all but guaranteed.)
2. Muir (At the beginning of the year I said that SF would be pegged as the #1 team to start the year off and by the end of the year Muir would be the Star-News #1 team just as has happened the past two years. Well, here we are and SF has been bumped down to #3 and Muir has their best chance to snatch the #1 ranking, and be in the driver's seat to win the Pacific. This is going to be a great game.....only 19 hours before kickoff.)
3. SF (This team is in an unfortunate situation. Their tough schedule is proving to be just too much for the G-Knights. With Alemany as possibly the new power of the Mission and with St. Paul's and Chaminade continuing to play seemingly better than SF, what are the boys from SF to do. Here's a real somber scenario......the ultra-talented Dietrich Riley may walk out of SF with MANY more losses than victories. I know that last year he was apart of at least three "L's" maybe four, and this year he will more than likely have 7 more. With 11 losses in two years and with SF's schedule it's not hard to imagine that the G-Knights will lose at least 10-12 games the next two years, meaning Riley will likely have lost over 20 games in 3 and a half years. Ouch!)
4. Alhambra (Talk about a roller-coaster ride. These dudes have had some BAD losses, however their wins hav been impressive, in terms of the final scores. If they can continue to run the ball with success they will be a force in their division.)
5. PHS (Their close loss to Arcadia proves that these guys "ain't no punks." At the same time, they haven't proven themselves yet. Well, to be honest, which team really has, outside of Arcadia. The dogs BETTER beat Burroughs though or they will just be another 4-6 team with minimal improvement from last year.)
6. La Salle (Rolling...rolling...rolling....)
7. Monrovia (I'd hate to continue with my theme of metaphor this week.....But MHS does remind me of John Travolta and/or Steven Tyler. Each enjoyed many years of success and popularity. Something later goes terribly awry, something like typecasting or alcohol abuse and the downward spiral is painful. After being all but forgotten the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Run-DMC enter the equation. Next thing you know both respective artists shed their "loser" labels and become important again, and then the top notch movie and music producers come-a-knocking. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this week's game vs. Blair is essentially Monrovia's "Pulp Fiction," or Aerosmith's collabo "Walk This Way.")
8. Blair (I know SM fans will think I'm an idiot for putting Blair ahead of SM, but I really feel that if they play 9 more times, Blair wins at least 7. BTW, Tip, why didn't you go for two.....that is one of your signature coaching strategies. Now you are up one with the obvious choice to go for two (a PAT means nothing) and you call out the kicker? I REALLY admire Tip, but I know that one kills him when he lays his head down at night.)
9. SM (Good win SM, but hey, kicker, I know you've heard the old saying, "there is no crying in _______ball." Good kick though, you'll NEVER forget it for the rest of your life.)
10. SG (I did not see last week coming and neither did the Matadors. They MUST bounce back this week.)
Muir may not be located in the hoods of LA but it is definitely labeled as an inner-city school. WIth a population that is about 95% Latino and African-American and with more than 2/3 of their population qualifying for the free-lunch program, Muir qualifies as an inner-city school.
Right. I've been there. It's funny to think that David Lee Roth went to a supposedly inner city school.
Muir is an inner-city school. If you don't believe, go by and take a tour.
I hope you are not suggesting that Muir is an inner city school, Stang Fan. Pasadena is pretty suburban.
Stang Fan,
If Muir had all that money then it would not be Muir. Would they have the same hunger and swagger? Besides, are their current resources fully utilised? Maybe more money and resources would be the biproduct of more involved parents and community leaders. Then those characteristics would have a positive holistic effect.
Anon. 9:16:
SF could beat any team in the SGV "handily?" Do you REALLY believe that? Are you forgetting Charter Oaks, Muir, Diamond Ranch, and Glendora, or do you think that SF can beat all of these schools "handily."
From what I understand the Arcadia/SF game was never truly in doubt unlike the Arcadia/Burbank or Arcadia/PHS games were. I also understand that the SF/Burroughs game was VERY tight and came down to the final seconds. Yes, the Los Altos win was big and the close Loyola loss doesn't look too bad, but to say that no one in the SGV could touch SF is just absurd.
Here's where you do make some sense though.....SF does have by far the best resources around. From the weight room, to the field, to the money, the alumni, etc. SF has the "right stuff" to be a successful program. Now, if you were to give those resources to say, Muir for example......whoa Nellie!!! Or to any inner-city school for that matter, man talk about DANGREOUS. But, it is what it is and SF has those benefits and we don't, hell they're paying for their schooling and we aren't so you can't blame SF for trying to get better. With that said though, maybe they should be competing at a higher level and shouldn't be losing or getting trounced by other programs.
Bottom line though, is that SF is NOT the class of the SGV in terms of being the best team, but as far as resources are concerened they most definitely are. That's got to suck just a little SF fans.
if you put st francis up against any west sgv team or east sgv team for that matter (see los altos) they will win handily.
except for of course arcadia who they lost to by DOUBLE DIGITS!
SF is the class of the sgv. i dont think anyone touches them in terms of resources (money, lots of coaches with football playing experience, a whole film crew for their games, and an impressive fan base and stadium).
they also have numbers, varsity team is like 70 kids deep!
i can see why many sf backers are so tough on bonds and co. the coaches have everything you need to have a great team, yet they under achieve year in and year out. the semi final appearances are nice but last years let down and this year's shocker to arcadia make for another disappointing season. i think they are even on the brink of missing the playoffs completely! that would be a travesty.
i remember in the weeks leading up to the season, the bloggers found out that sf starts practice early even though they dont play a week 0 game. i think they blamed it on starting school early. it seemed like the arcadia fans were going to use that as an excuse if they came up short in the game, but winning the game took care of that.
SF at #3 sounds right considering they lost their head to head match up with Arcadia. And unless they starts winning more games, the highest SF should go is to #2 (or to #3 if Muir beats Arcadia this week).
their not one cuz of the upset loss to arcadia in week one
SF has the hardest schedule by far. They would also kill anyone else on the list - can't belive they are 3 not 1 -
Anyone else want to play SOND or Loyola?
not hating on sf. but why are they ranked #3 with a losing record? any feed back?
Keppel doing the upset to Montebello on homecoming night???? I doubt that. I mean this is the same montebello team that knocked off alhambra, so I donbt see that happening.
And why did duarte drop to #2. I know I read in the paper that they won last week. And honestly I dont see duarte losing for the rest of their regular season so I dont know what thats about
They droped us to #2 its cool. CAnt wait until cif.
