High school football is so much fun to watch. And weeks like this one are awesome.
If PHS beats Muir, and Schurr beats Alhambra and Arcadia is beaten by CV and San Marino loses and Blair loses to LC and Keppel stuns San Gabriel and Rosemead loses and St. Francis is beaten and so on... Maranatha number 1. ;)
because Arcadia lost 2 league games in a row-Simple-Muir,fine! Burroghs? Please!
What justifies Pasadena's top three ranking? How many on-the-field wins do they have? How would PHS be ranked above Arcadia unless PHS beats Muir this week?
True rankings:#1-Muir #2Alhambra #3Pasadena #4Arcadia #5San Gabriel the rest is one big? as long as St.Francis is not on the list-no 4-5 team should be on any top ten list-and that's the TRUTHE
HEY NUMBER ONE!!!!!
NO ONE GOT TO PRACTICE THAT WEEK!!!!!!!
EVERYONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!
Remember Coaches:
205.2 To determine current scholastic eligibility, a student’s grades must be checked at each regular report period of the school concerned.
QUESTION: Can a school only count semester grades for the purpose of meeting the rule in regard to grades being checked at each reporting period?
ANSWER: No - Schools must check grades at each regular grading period regardless of whether this is a final semester grade or not. In the case of most Southern
Section schools this would normally occur four (4) times a year at nine (9) week
intervals.
With San Marino losing, yes, the loser of Monrovia-Temple City will finish in third.
In the Pacific League, I believe the scenario would be, if Crescenta Valley beats Arcadia and Burroughs beats Burbank, Arcadia would miss out on the automatic bid.
Surprises of the week were Duarte and Arcadia both falling.
Duarte's narrow loss came to La Puente, who was also a top 10 team in the division, so a close game was expected.
Arcadia's loss came to a Burroughs team that had to play on Monday of the same week and was coming off a heartbreaking loss to PHS.
Arcadia should have been able to score more than 10 points at home.
Help me get this sorted out...
In the Rio Hondo League, if Blair beats La Canada, they share the championship with the winner of the Temple City-Monrovia game. Blair would go as the #1 team from the league to the CIF playoffs based on head to head result against TC or Monrovia. Is the loser of the TC-Mon game assured third in league?
In the Pacific League, Muir can either win the title outright or have to share it with Pasadena depending on what happens on Thursday. Another Arcadia loss could drop them to fourth. Is there a scenario where Arcadia may not make the playoffs? The league gets 4 teams in.
Anon,
I wont. I know better. I just hoped that one of you would come out and correct your own.
New York:
Don't lump all us SM fans togather based on 1 post, M-town has a good team, we lost, no matter what the call, we had other chances and blew them.
Blair is going to take RHL crown for sure because no one can stop us
So things do change. The SM I know does not make excuses or blame third parties. They just get things done. SM was the classiest group of football players I ever went against. That's too bad.
M has nothing to complain about. They're thanking their lucky stars!
Nice win Monrovia. San Marino is a tough place for us to win.
I've never heard San Marino complain about officiating. It was always the other way around.
True score last night:
SM 17 Monrovia 13
SM was ROBBED of that touchdown!
The MTown-TC game is ALWAYS the RHL game of the year...it definitely has a hand in who gets the crown year in and year out.
Congrats to the boys and to the staff for the hard-fought win last night...and good luck in preparing for their championship game next week...
No thanks. Leave Monrovia out of the top 10. No need to post our sub-500 record.
Move Monrovia into the top ten for a massive 3 point victory?...by beating a team you yourself state is "overrated"?
Are you a BCS employee?
Hold off another week to cast your ballot - when two old "friends" get together in Temple City. Even with Blair in the driver's seat for the crown - this game still could be the RHL game of the season.
san marino overrated as usual...put monrovia in the top ten!!
NEW RANKINGS
1.)MUIR
2.)ALHAMBRA
3.)?????
4.)??????
5.)??????
Maranatha drops out of the top 10, but everyone on the team would look forward to playing TC or Monrovia. I haven't seen either play, but I hear TC has a great running back. The Minutemen have a good defense and a solid O/L so it would be a good game to see. No matter what, Maranatha is eager to learn, so maybe you could teach us a few tricks -
Seeing the Minutemen play might change your mind little man about their place in the SGV though - You may not understand, but a hit by a 6'1" 240 lb. lineman feels the same no matter what uniform he's wearing.
Remember, just like TC and Monrovia, the guys train hard and play hard - they want to win as bad as anyone.
They read the blogs, some feel bad when they get dis'd by the haters - but most like it because it means people are paying attention and, as you know, in any group there are always a couple of little sisters that never got picked for the team so they lash out trying to get even ...
The Minutemen are 6-3 in their division and are looking forward to the playoffs again. I don't know if you are a TC or Monrovia booster - either way, good luck to your team in the play offs and come over some time and watch a game.
anonymous 10:07am.
i could not agree with you more.
and tc beats san marino, but sm is still #10? that's like saying ucla should be in the top 25 after losing to utah.
Can't wait for muir to knock off pasadena like arcadia did so we don't have to hear from Huck or anyother harrison who claims to know the X's and O's of the game. There analysis of games has been complete off since day one. They act like they are a SGV Dynasty or something.
Hey huckster!!!
I was curious, u probably were the drunk dude that fell down the stairs at the Arcadia vs. PHS game, and also got kicked out the game twice, TRUE? NOw... how did u make it to Arcadias locker room and give them that great half time speech. U Think u can stumble to Muir locker room at the half and sluurrr a speech for them.. I hear u really get kids "fired" up....since u seem to know so much about the kids anyway!!!
Please stop with the JV update. These scores mean nothing until you get to Varsity. Sorry.
I don't go to the tussle in fear of getting shot.
H Lamaster
What a 1st class post -
Hopefully others will begin see it as you describe - an opportunity for some young athletes to shine.
I live in Pasadena - I don't think the city has any pulse for the success of all 3 teams in the same year - but maybe this year will change that.
I stopped going to the Turkey Tussle years ago because the outcome of most of the games was never in doubt. It wasn't "if" Muir would win, it was by how many touchdowns.
This year looks like a great match up. Muir appears to be the more complete team, but the Bulldog passing game is phenomenal.
The Tussle is a real showcase of the exceptional athleticism and tradition in Pasadena student athletes.
Playing in the Rose Bowl, with a title on the line for both teams, it doesn't get much better than that.
And then a night later Blair High possibly playing for its league title--- this is a big year for the city of Pasadena.
In the city where I live the 2 high school teams have not won a game yet.
Number one:
Please ma enough of the excuses about not practicing. If you didnt that is YOUR FAULT. The game wasn't even close. You have a solid team we just showed were better. Good luck in the playoffs, but you really dont want to see us in the playoffs...
New York:
I dont know why you feel we need to eat some humble pie, For the most part I dont think any of us have claimed to be anything but what we are, which is a good team that has a good shot at making a title run.
The Pacific league is poor this year but that isn't our fault, and we did schedule a solid non-league schedule. By the way who is your team?
Class of 85:
Your calling out Bingo and Willie like your playing next thursday. Everyone in our secodary(22,2,3,8) is being recruited so to say our db's are nothing dosen't really add up. But time will tell.
Guess we can drop Maranatha from the top 10.
After all...would Maranatha beat TC or Monrovia?
I bet Monrovia wishes they still had you Davis. Also, are the PHS fans blind or just ignore the fact Kevin Mills will just let Muir wreck him.
IF MUIR PLAYS ARCADIA IN THE PLAYOFFS THEY WILL LOSE BECAUSE ARCADIA WILL PRACTICE THIS TIME

Huck and the rest of the Dawgs
Do yall even play Muir this week, that's why the dawgs can't win.Yall don't focus on nothing but the Stangs, and PLEASE don't say I don't anything about the bowl because yes I went too Muir and played in the Rose Bowl a total of 7 times and never lost too the Dawgs..I root for Alhambra now because my lil cousin goes there.I really think yall would have a chance but deep down yall scared of Muir and a scared dawg can't win...
These local ranking look okay. At this point in the season, SF may be able to beat Arcadia. Blair may be able to beat Alhambra and SG.
Muir and Arcadia should both eat some humble pie before the playoffs and realize that they have each beaten only one good team this season. Arcadia did it 8 weeks ago and Muir did it last week.
the stangs have too much depth for the dawgs
we all know OWENS is a great recieve.....but ive been to the games and he has locked recievers down...but they dont put him at coener...and that can be a game changer
STOP THE PRESSES!!! Did Huck give the Stangs the edge in the Tussle? Wow!
Muir by 20.
Just watch Ahmere Owens, the area's top wide reciever from muir, he's spectacular
ahmere owens 4 president

Huckster:
Our biggest games were against burroughs and Arcadia. Austin locked down #12 in the Burroughs game when he garded him and played solid on d the whole game. He gave up nothing against Arcadia. He's played big in every big game since his sophmore year.(3 year starter) Of course everyone has thier opinion, just don't see how you can question his heart. There's alot of film that shows otherwise. As far Thompson he makes something happen every time he touches the ball and both him and graves played BIG against the dogs. And as a team we did everything efficiently against Arcadia run and pass. I see the stuff people say about trumpet.. those are kids and cowards i'm a fan of football i'm not here to gossip i'm a man. Everytime i see it on here i speak against it the real stangs aint even about that
ITS JAMES DAVIS JUST SAYING HOW MUCH I MISS THE TOWN AND PLAYING WITH THE HOMIES I CANT BELIEVE M TOWN IS NOT IN THE TOP TEN AND WE HAVE LOST TO ARCADIA, DUARTE, AND BLAIR IN THE SAME YEAR WE NEED TO WORK HARD AND FOCUS ON TEAM WORK AND REALIZE YOU HAVE THE CHANCE OF A LIFETIME AND THATS PLAYING HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYING WITH THE HOMIES AND WINNING THE BIG GAME IM STILL HURT LOSING TO LA SALLE LAST YEAR WE SHOULDVE WON THAT NOTHING AGAINST LA SALLE THEY WORKED HARD AND WAS THE BETTER TEAM THAT DAY BUT EVERYONE JUST TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIGH SCHOOL BALL
Stang fan04,
I like Austin, but I do know in big games he has been beaten continuously and the same with Marcus Thompson. Yes, I know players look on this blog, because my son looks at it. I know how you Muir people look at it, like “Huck” is going to fire us up again! Thanks for that kind of credit, but some of the stuff that’s said about my son and his teammates are an understatement on being fired up! I’m talking about football and I’m not talking about you in particular but you seen some of the other stuff written. Muir’s last six games is exactly my point! They blew those teams out and when they tried to pass with some efficiency Ruben couldn’t do it! Willie Youngblood and Ruben did most of the damage with their legs. Now people of the blog; I’m not talking about bombs, but the receiver running routes and Ruben putting the ball there with some timing. If Muir was able to do that he, Owens and Youngblood would be up for player of the year! PHS didn’t start winning until they mad a conscious effort to run the ball, because you just can’t throw all the time and expect to win! Come on people let’s talk football! Like I said, I’ve been to Muir’s game and of course I’ve been to PHS’s games. PHS’s chances of winning are greater than you Muir people think, because both teams are small and this would be considered bias, but PHS has better skilled people and Muir has played with more determination of late. So, going into the Tussle I would have to give Muir the edge.
The REAL Huckster!
COME ON PASADENA YALL HAVE TO BEAT MUIR!!!! JUST CONTAIN THE RB AND QB AND YOUR GOOD DONT WRY ABOUT THEIR LINE. JUST THE WATCH FOR WILLIE DATS ALL JUST CONTAIN HIM AND YALL WILL WIN!!!!!
Huckster fan(who aint even man enough to have your own name):
If you were watching the arcadia game you would know walker played wr against the third string. And if you look at Any of the box scores and stats in our last six games ther is no evidence that our defense or db's are suspect. Why dont we talk about what arcadia did to your defense... 49 points. Think before you post
Michael (trump) Harrison is too quick and smart for Muir DB's to even think about covering him. Arness Inker, way toooo fast, the best reciever in the Pacific League. Tyrone Crockom, hands down the player of the year (who ran Ruben Thomas out of PHS) will continue to impress. Then there is the exfactor. Muir's secondary, who couldn't cover PHS even if they knew the plays. They look like they're BLIND FOLDED out. Did you see what Kevan Walker did to them. Just SICK!!!
Huckster, Huckster, Huckter...its a good thing that your son isn't the player you were, because even if you were 7 feet tall and ran 4.3 40 you would't be able to be in the same breath as him. Not only do i know MUIR's going to win the Tussle but so do you. They should interview you after the game so you can tell the world how big of a Mustang fan you are and actually picked them to win. We'll see how much red and white you'll be wearing next friday
I guess Huckster's "football assessment" forgot to include looking at those stats.
Sounds like a kid running toward the fight - not away from it. 77 tackles???- maybe time to recant on labeling the kid, especially since players are known to blog here.
Thompson makes big plays and you dont have ANYBODY who can beat him. Theres severals ways we can and will get owens the ball. just wait and see...
What do you mean austin daniels lacks courage He's 3rd in the pacific league in tackles as a db(77). You dont know that kid to call him a coward. If you watch the games he's all over the field. I gurantee you one thing he aint scared of dogs! Graves has been solid all season
Let's Go Rosemead!!!
FEAR THE 'MEAD!!! WAR PANTHERS!!!
Anonymous,
Why don’t we talk about these players, because I’ve been to over; 5 Muir games and have seen these players play since “POP WARNER” my son played with these guys.
Here’s Huckster take:
Let's talk about Muir: Marcus Graves (good player to slow), Myles Campbell (good player Bingo can’t get him the ball in middle of field), Marcus Thompson (good player very inconsistent and very beatable), Austin Daniels (good player but lacks courage), and Chris Dunlap (a rookie still learning). These are the kids the bulldogs have to stop. Way Too much (only in your mind!). Enough said. (!) Owens is the real deal, but Bingo can’t throw the mid range pass and that’s why your receivers don’t have the numbers they should have! I’ve played football my whole life, so I’m giving a football assessment!
Ahmere Owens from MUIR is an MVP of the year type of player....dont sleep on him
Lets go Mustangs!!! Muir aka Pac League Champs!!! why isn't Blair ranked higher, aren't they undefeated? does anybody know what time the turkey tussle officially starts? I have seen 7pm then also 7:30p.
to all the muir ppl jus wait we will met again
There was a note at the top of the polls that states the CIF didn't put polls out this week.
Game of the week should be Rio Hondo vs Flintridge. This should determine Prep League champ since Flintridge beat Chadwick.
the rankings are not updated because Alemany would not be ranked so high after losing to SF and also the Muir win
How can Arcadia be ranked ahead of Muir? Whoever is voting in these polls are no paying attention to who beats who. What a disappointment.
whats up with rhl
