Yes,I spoke highly of Monrovia's team and potential months before season start.

I don't think I wrongfully evaluated the talent of the kids in uniform there.

look riley is a good kid and his scholarship situation should not be discussed on a blog. Were talking about kids people

After seeing most of the game on public access. I have to say that their is some issues with play calling with monrovia. I was hoping what happened over in La Canada didnt happen at home against blair but it did. After watching williams, I dont really see him as a running back, maybe receiver, but I dont see the breakout speed. Against a fast defense like Blair I didnt see him as productive. I really would of liked for our O-line to get off the ball and hit and make some holes for Dwight Smith. He is a true running back. I think he should get the majority of the carries. I think we have been a pass happy offense, but we have had success in the passing game, more than we've had in a few years. Im not callin for coach G's head in being fired at least not yet. But if he cant get the kids to be motivated maybe we need more of a younger coach. And our defense needs to be feared like Muir's defense, I mean they have about 6or7 kids that are standouts. Our defense needs to have way better run support than what they do, also much more consistant on the pass rush with just the four down-lineman. Also I saw La salle go and do two staright pass plays down the sidelines. I mean back when I was in school, no one wanted to pass deep on us because of our speed, but that has changed. Coach G better spark something in those kids because even though T.C. has had a rough similar year, they are starting to put things together and they will show no mercy if they get a lead on us, after the blair game, T.C. woke up and got serious. It seems we're awake in the first quarter and if the team is not as good like south pas then we're ok, but La canada almost got us, blair got us, and san marino is a sound team, and even though we're faster than them any day of the week. They do all of the little things right to win the game. Luckily we had a real good run game last year with sparks and Co. but if Smith doesnt get most of the carries then I dont know if we can pull it through against san marino. Am I disappointed in this season yeah of course we lost to duarte, blair, and arcadia. but I still think if we play sound football like we did against south pas we can take care of first san marino, and then we'll talk later about the showdown with the rams

Philly B. said:

Anonymous, just curious, why would you rank monrovia after they got embarrassed at home against Blair. and Blair will never become as good as Muir mark words on that one. They might get pasadena high in the future, but not muir

sportsparent said:

My child attends an area high school and plays sports and is a recepient of a scholarship. It covers only half of expesnes and doen't cover books, uniforms, and the other costs.

My child has to maintain a certain grade point average as well as behavior standards and as parents we are required to fulfill hours, volunteering, etc. Everything is monitored.

Anything not met means that the scholarship money is lost. We must reapply each year.

For the sake of us that are making tremendous sacrifices to get our child a quality EDUCATION -please refrain from your hurtful comments about children getting scholarships.

You have no right - nor do you have any business commenting on something that you know nothing about.

Be thankful if you are able to send your child to a quality private school with no financial assistance.

If you can - you are blessed.

he only has a full scholarship after his freshman year
you cant apply for a scholarship until then and to get one you need to write an essay as to why you need one.

There has always always been the critics about Muir O Line over the years. Were always small. Every two three years we get one or very athletic studs up front. Muir has always relied on spped and athleticism to move the ball. You simply cannot defend speed especially at the high school level. If Muir could put together as good an O Line as the talent at the skill positions they would be ranked a top 10 team in the state year after year.

What about Deitrich Riley?

He had a full ride scholarship.

It seems that exceptions are made for football at SF.

the apaches showed that they were a good football team. they played hard! so don't take nothing away from them. the stangs came to play that night and learned from their two losses. may they both represent in the playoffs

football lover said:

Stang Fan mentioned that St. Francis has much better resources, which is evident and therefore should be the top team every year, also stated by Lamaster--but what you guys don't realize is that most private schools mentioned on this board are College Prep institutions. This means several things: 1) if you can't take Algebra I as a freshman and read at a 9th grade level or extremely close--you can't come. These schools do have a strong alumni base and are able to legally get students from outside of their area, however, there have been several students who have left St. Francis simply because they could not handle the academic requirement or the financial committment. After the freshman year there are scholarships available through many different programs, however, there is only financial aid available to incoming freshmen which only covers about half of their tuition. That's still about $5,000 a year.

I am surprised the Cats lost to Blair..taking nothing from Blair.

Here comes the seeding war and argument MAYBE. With two weeks left in the RHL anything can happen and I mean ANYTHING.

yes, its true that a TC coaches sister died... out of respect, no names will be given and no info... he is doing well though and continues to coach at a high level!

Yes, Verb was loaded last year.
This year Verb is at 1-7, with one of the losses a forfeit. They are 1-2 on league with a big game on Friday at Cantwell. A win could put them in the playoffs.
Trust me, you don't want to draw Verb in the playoffs, they can always put it together in one night.
Oh, and please ease off the caps lock key, it hurts.

Hal Lamaster said:

Stang Fan,
I see private schools (like St. Francis) as a vaccuum of area talent with more resources and advantages than public schools have in our area.

Resources, I think, are the biggest difference. Many of our public school sports programs have to beg and scrounge just to have their basic needs met.

With alumni money and support, recruiting, athletic-minded private schools should be able to put high level players in every position and have a depth chart loaded with studs on the field every year.

"Should" is the key word.

Give Muir, PHS or Blair half of Oaks Christian's resources and the results would be astounding.

It is easy to dismiss the Camino Real League, and the other smaller school leagues, but they play pretty good football "down" there too.
What they should do is put the Camino Real League in the Mid Valley Division with the Rio Hondo League.
Oh wait, THEY DID.
Result in the first year:
Mid Valley Championship game in 2006: La Salle vs Verbum Dei.

to the 2 anons----1st phs coaches are way 2 dumb to learn anything let alone learn something from arcadia's mistakes. 2ndly there isn't a muir/monrvia debate, why would there be one. monrovia lost to blair, what makes anyone think they could beat muir. lastly the apaches took it on the chin in a major way but I have the confidence that coach d will get our boys rolling again. especially because burroughs will have to play 2 games in 5 days.

Anonymous said:

Hey. what ever happened to the Muir vs Monrovia debate? I think we can lay that to rest now.

Anonymous said:

observer,

Arcadia played so aggressive on some running plays when youngblood avoided some tackles and spinned and reversed the field, no one on arcadia's defense had cut back. World class speed will get cha if you aren't in position.

Maybe if pasadena is smart, they will learn from arcadia's mistakes.

Anyone who has La Sally in their top ten is smoking something. Here they come???? What is that supposed to mean?!
I suppose playing in that weak league they play in would make any team a winner. They clearly are a program on the decline and survive on past reputation.
They have a pretty good young QB but lets face it, they're not going anywhere without playing the bottom feeders of the southland.

observer said:

Having watched the Arcadia-Pasadena game and the Arcadia- Muir game, I think Muir is a much more well-balanced team and will handle Pasadena, which has a great passing attack but an average running attack. The Muir defense is very good. Its line held Amhaz to not much at all, kept putting pressure on Walker and shut down Arcadia's receivers including the Tight End who had been on a roll prior to that game. I don't know what Muir did during the week for practice but Arcadia apparently did not practice much at all. It seemed to show because there appeared to be a lot of missed assignments and no containment by Arcadia's D-ends. Youngblood was stopped up the middle except when gaps opened a few times but bounced outside most of the time . You would think that should have been prevented with proper practice preparation. The hitch passes by Muir were horribly covered by Arcadia's corners who seemed to have lead feet. Pasadena hurt Arcadia with its speedy receivers who could not be covered by Arcadia's comparatively slow secondary. Muir's secondary can handle Pasadena's receivers and its line will completely take out the running game and the linebackers are quick enough to handle Crockum running (Arcadia's Golper sacked him three times) IF Amhaz could do what he did to Pasadena, Youngblood will do that as well. Muir seemed like a well-coached team and deserves to be #1.

The Stang Fan said:

Bro, you really sound like you don't know ANYTHING about the game of football. Muir has no line? All they have is a good RB and QB? Look, you learn at the pop warner level, hell maybe even in the crib, that a team is NOTHING w/o some semblance of a good line. And all everyone ever talked about, including myself, was how Arcadia was going to pose a BIG problem for Muir. In fact, the opposite was true. That what has me so excited about this team. Their line play is impressive, but when I heard that Jonathan Clinkscale (from the Univ. of Wisconsin and Cincy Bengals) was helping our boys out, it made a whole lot of sense.

Scott G. and Hal Lamaster:

Why "should" SF be the best team in the area? Is it because of the resources and support that they have or someting else?

obviously unkown(whoever you are) you didnt watch the game #22 amere owens li arcadia up so it isnt as simple as stopping the rb and qb. And if you know anything about the game, you can have walter payton in the backfield and if your line dosent block there will be no success. It's funny to me how the critics on here find ways to down the stangs. If you hate muir so bad beat them then talk

Unknown said:

UM UM!!!!!!!! MUIR DOESN'T HAVE A GOOD LINE AT ALL LOL!!!!! ITS ONLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE A GOOD RUNNING BACK AND QB WHO CAN BOTH RUN THATS WHAT SAVE THEM. AND ARCADIA ONLY HAD ONE PRACTICE THAT WEEK SO YEAH MUIR DON'T GET TOO HYPED UP ABOUT YOUR WIN. SO BULLDOGS IF YALL WANT TO BEAT THE MUSTANGS JUST CONTAIN THAT RB AND QB AND YALL WILL WIN
AND there will be a 3-way tie for league.

u r right, San Marino is a solid club, well coached and they have an excellent short to mid-range passing game. Trawick is a total workhouse, runs through arm tackles and is an outstanding reciever, catching 5 or 6 passes in the first half alone. SM smothered what little pass attack TC put forth, and their 1st half D was impressive...the only "blow it" was TC's second play of the game, a toss left with Do getting a block in the near flat and then outrunning all pursuers to the goal line. SM came back and scored twice making it 9-7 at half.
TC came out to start the third highly pumped on the sideline..and the big TC crowd got revved as well. When the squad assembled on the field without a QB ...and with Do standing alone in the shotgun, all hell broke loose. It was the adrenalin push that the flat stagnant offense needed and Williams Do did a tremendous job of attacking head on into the line of scrimmage, then cutting to daylight. He also rounded outside both left and right. It was an awesome night of football if you were a Ram fan.
Hatch performed well at QB, but SM had the recievers blanketed most of the night. SM plays intelligent D and their line play is strong as well.
The other turning point was a fumbled/muffed punt with Trawick attempting a fair catch in traffic. The punt netted only 19 yards, but it may have been the highest, ozone piercing prep kick I have ever seen. It bounced off the front of Trawicks shoulder pads and TC recovered. Do eventually scored again following that turnover.

If TC absorbs the momentum and confidence of this win , and Do stays healthy....Nope, forget it right now it is a time to savor, not prognosticate.

Hal, nice job on the top 10.
You're right, St. Francis "should" be the top team. This year, they are not. Muir has the athletes and then some this season. They're the best area team I've seen in person this year, and I saw SF three times.

Mustangs are running downhill.
2. ARCADIA
Not overated, just (area's) second best.
3. ST. FRANCIS
"Should" always be the best team in the area.
4. BLAIR
Their only blemish is a last second one-point loss.
5. ALHAMBRA
Healthy and hungry.
6. PASADENA
No shortage of athletes. Can they keep it all together? They are dreaming of roses, they better keep focused on Burroughs.
7. SAN GABRIEL
Hanging tough
8. TEMPLE CITY
Turning it around. Do is getting it done.
9. SAN MARINO
Solid club, crazy league.
10. LA SALLE

Their back!!! Alhambra took care of business again tonight. Smith put up about 150 yds. and Brown about 60, plus a long kick return. Cazarin continues to look more comfortable at QB and hooked up with Giambalvo his huge tight end for a couple of big plays including a touchdown. Once again the defense was impressive holding BG to 10 points.
