What a release to determine a article that may well be ultimately in fact importance reading! I’ve been looking for all-around concerning this issue but men and women just put rubbish posts, or short meaningless posts. I have viewed a couple vids on youtube but it’s now the identical as reading a good article.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

I am grateful to you for this good content. You definitely did make my day :

It still remains a mystery why Jesus allows that. :)

And on the eligibility front, each district can determine their own time frame. So in a league like the Pacific League, which has schools from four different districts, there potentially could be four different ways of doing eligibility. Most of the Pac League schools, however, do the same thing. The Pasadena schools (in the 80s) actually counted the athletes' citizenship grade as part of eligibility. The kids had to have an "S" average. Meaning satisfactory. I think they have stopped that now. I remember a Muir kid who missed a season even though he had a 3.0 GPA. His citizenship was the problem. He had 5 S's and one U.

The Glendale school district in the 90s was real big on truancies and attendance of its athletes. Athletes were pulled out of competition when they had more than 2 unexcused absenses. Those policies have gone away however.

Seems like I read that last season Muir football had nearly TWENTY boys declared ineligible at the 10 week grading period, which is when CIF playoffs kick in.

I agree with you. There is no need for that in High School Sports. Yes, I was disappointed last week when Temple City's Will Do ran back a kickoff return with 30 seconds to go in the game against my Alma mater South Pas, but I would never do what Coach Mills did. I hope PHS doesn't win a game the rest of the way and Coach Mills gets fired. Hopefully it will teach him a lesson in life.

Actually, very few athlethes are under the 10 week grade umbrella. Most are under the 6 week progress report which does determine eligibility during midseason. Ask Verbum Dei. Their powerhouses became eligible midseason and swept up the Mid Valley League CIF title. It sure sucked for all the players on the other teams who worked hard and kept up grades all season to have everything snacthed away from them. Also, on the flip side, many athletes play and then are inelligible right after league play starts and ruin it for their whole team.

your TC prediction is a logical one - not necessarily for the fan momentum factor you mention-but for the 2nd half collapses and missed opportunities in the final two quarters by TC. Arroyo, The Mead and Blair - chances were there and nothing materialized. Alhambra - was collapse city.
Pretty much every game - EXCEPT last week - when the trend died. This game is the plank in shark infested waters for TC. One more step and that is it.

Look for the Rams best game of the year, 28 - 13 TC.

The Stang Fan said:

You guys can continue to pontificate on the issues of grades and eligibility, you all have intriguing opinions, yet the bottom line for this week is that Willie Youngblood is 100 % eligible and will play vs. Arcadia. Someone was trying to start up some sh#@ and it worked.......

Here are my picks for Week 8.

Alhambra over BG (AHS is one of the many schools in our area that has experienced a roller coaster season. They have some good wins followed by some bad losses. However, everything seems to be back to normal and they will best BG this week.)

Schurr over SG (talk about disappointing. I picked SG to pop Alhambra only if they could keep AHS ground attack under wraps.......Ummmmm.........no. Schurr will treat them the same way)

Alemany over SF (this is a victory for Alemany that I predicted months ago and many thought I was crazy. Now if SF wins it will be considered an upset. Alemany, with Herrington at the helm, will be a force to reckon with in the Mission for years to come. Especially if they continue to siphon athletes from Pasadena as they've done the last two years.)

Rosemead over Gab (This shouldn't be too dificult for the Mead, but you never know.)

Pasadena over Burroughs (Depending on how the dogs respond to that tough loss vs. Arcadia this game could actually go either way. Burroughs could most definitely win this game, and if they do it wouldn't be an upset. I missed the Muir/Burroughs game so I don't know too much about Burroughs but they are useally pretty tough, especially on D. If the dogs are pissed and come out to play, it shouldn't be close. I will say this though Burroughs, DEFINITELY has the coaching advantage over PHS.)

Monrovia over Blair (I know, I know, I picked Blair to win this game vs. Monrovia last week, but I think with the way Blair played vs. SM and the fact that this is at MHS, the Cats have the upper hand. I'll be rooting for Blair, because of the Tip factor, but I just see Monrovia pulling this out in the end.)

SP over LC (Hell it's close to Halloween, you gotta go with the Orange and Black. That and their passing game will be too much for LC.)

SM over TC (SM will overwhelm TC in the 2nd half with their crowd behind them)

Muir over Arcadia (SHOCKER!!! I can see the look of surprise on all your faces...... This is by far the Game-of-the-Year here in the WSGV. Like I mentioned before the storylines are everywhere in this game and both towns are just buzzing with excitement about this game. As far as analysis goes, I'm sure Arcadia feels like they can ram the ball down Muir's throat and Muir feels like they can get their guys in the open field to create some big plays. Because PHS was seemingly one-dimensional and was still able to accumulate a lot of yards and points, I think Muir can be more succesful because they too have a potent air attack but their ground game is MUCH more effective than PHS's. Against Burbank Muir had over 280 yards rushing and about 140 yards passing, and I promise you Burbank ran twice as many offensive plays. Essentially, all Muir has to do is stop the run, a WHOLE lot easier said than done, but if they do it could be a long night for Arcadia.)

Anonymous said:

OG,
If Arcadia happens to beat Muir by a lot, then Muir falls down to where some other teams are that Arcadia has already beaten by a lot. If Arcadia wins a close one, then the rankings don't change.

If Muir wins, Arcadia goes to #2 because they have already beaten a couple of the other ranked teams.

Anonymous said:

Goldenarm,
It all depends what goal line you want the kids to reach.

Are you sure that other groups don't have grade requirements? Regardless, why lower the standards to be in line with other flunkies? Is that who we compare ourselves to? The low achievers? Football players have what it takes to persevere on the field, in the classroom, at the office, etc.

Goldenarm said:

I wonder if anyone in the choir runs a 4.5 40?

Goldenarm said:

HL,

GREAT POINT.
And you are right, a topic surely leading us far from the goal line.

Hal Lamaster said:

That is correct. But I personally believe that having to have a 2.0 is discriminatory to athletes. No other group in the school is held to a minimum GPA standard.

The singers in the choir and the actors in drama, etc. can have straight F's and they get to perform, no questions asked.

I recognize that a 2.0 is an easy GPA to achieve, but I think sports should be treated the same as all the other groups. But that's a topic for a different day.

Anonymous said:

So a 2.0 is not low enough? A student can have a modified 2.0 and still be able to play??? By the way, a 2.0 is not even good enough for them to earn a scholarship anyway. I'd like to see the minimum eligibility benchmark raised to at least the minimum needed to qualify for scholarships.

Hal Lamaster said:

Fall eligibility is at the 10 week grading period for everyone except for a handful of athletes who enter the season on probation. Every district handles this differently, but what can happen is that an athlete may not have had a 2.0 GPA at the semester grades last June, but they passed the required 4 classes. In order to play, the athlete petitions and is allowed to compete in the fall. His/her grades are checked at the 5 week grading period. I have no idea if any players are under any restrictions like that but I thought I would throw that out.

99.9% of the athletes are under the 10-week grade umbrella.

anonymous said:

LC parent, I have to agree that LC has been much improved since the preseason. I still feel though that SP will be able to throw the ball fairly easily against a defense that in my opinion is weaker than both Monrovia and TC. The SP offense threw for 250 yds. against Monrovia and 306 yds. against TC. I just don't feel that LC is the team that is going to stop what you call a "passing attack."

Coaches criticize each other in a rational form by discussing the game film, practice skeems, and the responce from the players during certain critical drills from hell. But, is just that...simple and rational critcism in order to improve the team's goal.

I get a kick when soo many bloggers attack coaches for decision making and the bloggers are the first to say that the coach should have done this instead of that...all I know is that if the critical bloggers had the time and knowledge of coaching football, then we would all be coaches and no room for the fans on the stands.

pac league, good analysis but i think with the fact that walker is a GREAT corner, that wil be the deciding factor. arcadias LBs are very diciplined and they will stop muirs running game. they know that #6 on arcadia is weak at corner so they will most likely have help on his side and have walker one on one with muirs top wideouts. walker proved that he can cover great atthletes (PHS threw to walker's side 4 times last game, which resulted in 3 incompletions and an INT). if arcadias offense can play like how they did against PHS arcadia will win by double digits.

I Plan on being at the Monrovia-Blair game just because Im very curious if Blair can prove that they belong in the rio hondo league elite, not to say the our league is so elite in the first place. But If muir can beat arcadia, it will once again prove on how arcadia can beat up on everybody that is not equally matched up to them, but not take care of business in their own league and win the title outright without any three way ties. Good luck to Muir I hope you take care of business at home, and show that your defense is possibly the best in the area.
My prediction
Muir 36 arcadia 24

Call me an arcadia hater if you want I dont care(anonymous your a joke and for your info. You only own another team if you've beaten them for 2or3 seasons, not when the last two meetings were split, Duarte doesnt own us we beat them last year just like we beat arcadia last year) but I just feel that Muir has more talent at the skilled positions.

This Arcadia Vs. Muir matchup reminds me of last years Burroughs Muir game. The league title was on the line and you had the strong running back and powerful line of Burroughs against the speed and flashiness of Muir.
Muir must load up the box and force kevan walker to beat them with the pass. Walker does have big play ability with his legs, however i believe muir has the athletes to keep his running in check.
For Muir on offense I do believe Arcadia can control Youngblood. IMHO, Youngblood has not had the season I was expecting. It has been Muir's passing game that has the chance to come up big. Walker is a good corner. However, Pasadena was able to get behind the defense (on the other side of Walker) last week for big plays. This leads me to believe Muir has a shot on some deep passes.
Now to bring this full circle, much like last years Burroughs vs. Muir game if Arcadia can keep the score close through 3 quarters and pound sand. They will take the "air out of the ball" and keep Muir's offense off the field. The Muir defense will wear down and Arcadia will control the 2nd half and go on to victory. Now if Muir is able to plug the holes and force Walker to pass;Muir will come out victorious. It should be a good one!

Muir knows it cant win a title without beating Arcadia, and I'm sure Arcadia feels the same with us. There isn't a whole lot of trash talking between these two teams, I think we share a mutual respect. And every year it's close. I loved beating up on PHS when i was in school but I think this is the game that should be played in the Rose Bowl. I think it would make the Turkey Tussle a real rivalry again. I think most people go to the game now because of the social aspect and not the actual play on the field. Last Year Muir and Arcadia went into 3 OT's. Kevin Walker is a good player, there rb is very tough also. However I think our athltetes and tough defense will get it done. This could be the best game of the year. The first true Showdown

This will be an interesting match-up!ARCADIA vs. MUIR...huuum...well i give the edge to apaches cause they are better up front,by far-Although Muir has more skill by far-Power vs. speed-arcadia hasn't faced a good team w/ real speed all year-so this will be interesting-Arcadia's favored, but i would'nt be surprised if muir comes up w/ a great victory-good luck 2 both teams.......

Stang- congrats on the victory over Burbank. I'll take Muir over Arcadia, but I'll say that both schools have alot of class and alot of great kids and parents.

Scott, will you be providing preseason rankings for basketball anytime soon?

San Gabriel will NEVER win an Almont League championship. They have two glaring problems.First, they have no D. Their D cordinator has no clue on how to stop the run. Last week in goal line he had only 3 down lineman. I guess he was playing the pass?????. Why, I dont know because Alhambra's QB couldn't throw!!! That leeds to the second problem- "LITTLE MAN TATE". This guy is so small he hides behind center. This kid cannot throw more than 10 yards down field. all you have to do is jump the short routes, cause he can't throw farther than that!!!! Take away the run and the game is done!!!

BTW, I know there are a few other good games out there this Friday and it is very important to support your home teams. But, if any of you are just old fashioned high school football fans or if your team is playing on Saturday, PLEASE come down to our small corner of the world to enjoy a classic matchup of two great teams heading in the right direction. It would be AWESOME if we could pack the house for our boys and give them something to remember for the rest of their lives.

So if you have any time on your hands this Friday night you are cordially invited to 1905 N. Linclon for one hell of a football bash.

Wow. It all boils down to this. Muir vs. Arcadia. What a week this'll be!!!

I would love to be a fly on the goalposts of both Arcadia and Muir this week.

Arcadia....4-0 in league. Muir.....4-0 in league.

Arcadia's girth and grit against Muir's flash and fury.

There are so many subplots here that there isn't enough room to write.

Big A, you are right, this game does give one chills, doesn't it? And thank you very much for the kind words, as essentially a "rebuilding" school your words mean a lot to many of us ol' school Stangs.

I know many of you reading this think that I am waxing a little too poetic and/or that I am pouring it on a little thick. OK, so I am, so what. I'm just so damn FIRED UP!!!

Talk about game-of-the-year, it gets NO bigger than this. I will have A LOT more to say as the week continues, but I just had to add my two cents in right now.

LET'S GO STANGS!!!!!!!

the Question is:

Can arcadia recover from a emotional victory over pasadena to beat Muir at home?

I think so...

Arcadia 34
Muir 27

I am so excited for Muir vs Arcadia. Wow. It gives me chills down my back to see the #1 and #2 teams battle it out for the top spot. This is going to be a great game. Muir is the classier Pasadena school so I really have respect for Muir and their program. With only a 1400 kid enrollment, they truly have their program up at the top.

Good luck to both teams!
