FOOTBALL: Who are the area's top wide receivers?

| | Comments (52) |

With the season winding down, which players are worthy of All-Area? Who's the best?

Harrison.jpg
Above: Pasadena's Michael Harrison against Burroughs.

Todd Golper, Arcadia- One of the most solid receivers in the area. Has caught 18 passes for 379 yards and five Touchdowns.

Eric Willm, Arcadia- Very good at getting open. Has caught 20 passes for 301 yards and five Touchdowns.

Reinaldo Reyes, Blair - One of the most electrifying receivers in the area. Has eight catches for 298 yards and four touchdowns.

David Baier, La Salle - The senior has 31 catches for 637 yards and eight TDs.

Michael Palffy, La Salle - The Lancer senior has 26 catches for 457 yards and four TDs.

Fernando Gonzalez, Monrovia - Expected to be an impact player for the Wildcats, Gonzalez has hauled in 34 passes for 534 yards and three TDs.

Daro Johnson, Monrovia - Has hauled in 16 passes for 408 yards and five touchdowns.

Ahmere Owens, Muir - This guy can flat out play. Has 17 catches for 360 yards and four touchdowns.

Michael Harrison, Pasadena - This guy has more magic than Houdini. Just when you think three players have him stopped, he's downfield. Has 38 receptions for 744 yards and six touchdowns.

Arness Ikner, Pasadena - A solid receiver with outstanding speed and great hands. Has 39 receptions for 726 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Albert Aulcy, Rosemead - The Panther senior has 36 receptions for 525 yards and two touchdowns.

Kevin Garcia, St. Francis - A nifty receiver who knows how to get open and catch the football. Has caught 13 passes for 350 yards and four TDs.

Javier Miranda, San Gabriel - The Matador senior leads the area with 53 catches for 834 yards and five touchdowns.

Steven Coliau, South Pasadena - The Tigers wideout has quietly caught 33 passes for 370 yards.

Jackson Kennedy, South Pasadena - Has 26 catches for 324 yards and two TDs.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I always knew that the networks are interesting places such as these. I'll come back to you shortly.

Adore the new look. I enjoyed the content. Thanks for the great writing.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Hi, I apologize for asking this inquiry here, but I couldn't find a contact form or something so I felt like I leave my enquiry here. I run a blogengine blog but I am receiving increased amounts of spam. I see u use wordpress, is it uncomplicated to regulate spam with wordpress or doesn't it make any difference? I hope you will respond to my comment or maybe send me an email with your answer if you don't want to approve the comment. Best regards, Annie

NO IM TALKING ABOUT TO SAN GABRIEL AFTER WE SMASHED THEM 42-18....I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT "TURKEY TUSSLE"...I SAW PASADENA FOR THE FIRST TIME MONDAY NIGHT VS. BURROUGHS...GOOD LUCK TO YOU GUYS IN THAT GAME .!!! MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN..

Kingofcali626 said:

Blair has a pretty good receiver in one Renaldo Reyes when he is thrown the ball he makes things happen problem is Blair is loaded at running back so they dont pass unless forced to ala the Monrovia game.

ScottG,

Could we have some top LB's, top RB's, and top DB's?

MHS Alumni said:

Scott, you got it right!

Fernando Gonzalez is the impact player for Monrovia Wildcats; Talk about HANDS, SKILLS and just a GREAT all around Athlete this kid is IT! He’s your All Area Wide Receiver. He’s rec'd “2005” & “2006” Second Team Offense WR - Rio Hondo League; he would have rec’d First Team Offense WR in “2006” but the award went to a TC senior.

Not much recognition from Pasadena Star News (Scott), but if you do your homework - you will agree he’s your All Area Wide Receiver!

Huckster!!!!!!! said:

The Truth? Are you talking about the "Turkey Tussle"? PHS has to stop the run, but there will be so many other factors in this game like PHS running on Muir too! While they load up for the pass! If you have never played in this game you have no idea what's going to happen, just know the Dogs will come to play and that's the "Truth"!

The best Qb in the area hands down-tyrone crockom P.H.S.-he's phenomenal-the best running back hands down-Anthony Brown A.H.S. he's scary good-These two athletes are both gifted and just special all-around great young men-not very big guys-but the play like monsters on the field-both will be playing somewhere on saturday's-and one of them will be playing on sunday's-good luck gentleman-jusafan....

frank gomez at san gabriel.........haha

THE TRUTH said:

If you CAN'T RUN you must pass...but you must be able to pass against every team when you have all the stats then you face a team that picks your qb 2 times and has him running in circles throwing the ball away all the stats go out the window and you have a LOSS'

42-18 FINAL LOL..

P.S. STOP THE RUN!!!

THE TRUTH said:

The best receiver in the area size ,speed and hands is Alhambra Moors M.CROCKOM #1 He is a Freak...a 10th grader with all the tools this year he hasn't touched the ball to much due to that fact that his teammates are Anthony"there he go's" Brown AND Dushine"SMOOTH AS A CADDILAC"Smith...you asked and my opinion is CROCKOM ,Next year this Blog will read "CROCKOM does it again" another 3 touchdown's 200 plus yards per game....IM just saying.

LOOK OUT!! HE IS THE COUSIN OF THE AMAZING Pasadena QB TYRONE CROCKOM too bad they didnt play together BOY!!

Anonymous said:

but he doesnt, so DEAL with it!

David Morris would get more attention if he were playing anywhere but Marshall.

Stang Fan,

For Muir to win in CIF, Youngblood needs 25+ carries a game. he should be ok cause he goes one way. What impressed me most about you stangs was your special teams. I can see you guys making a run just on special teams alone.

The Stang Fan said:

Arness Ikner and Mike "Trump" Harrison are both VERY good players. Trump's quickness and Arness's speed are the main reasons teh dogs are headed to the playoffs for the first time in years.

With that said, however, both players benefit from playing in a pass-happy offense (as another poster mentioned earlier). Their numbers are a reflection of their great talents but also their team's offenseive scheme as well. If other talented recievers had the opportunity to play in a similar offense they too would have comparable numbers.

Bias alert....bias alert....bias aler.....

Of course if you were to ask me who is the best, I would undoubtedly say Ahmere Owens. I could be wrong Scott but I believe he has more than 4 td's.....I want to say it's more like 7-8. He's the one reciever who can turn any catch into a TD, regardless of what type of route he runs. Posts....td's. Bombs.....td's. Screens......td's. Bubble routes......td's. Hitches.....td's. Outs.....td's. You see where I'm going. It doesn't matter, this kid is a threat to score from ANYWHERE on the field!!!

BTW, Owens isn't Muir's only talent at WR. As a matter of fact, if you were to ask me (bias, bias, bias) I would say that Muir has the best recieving corp around. Don't get me wrong, PHS's unit is great too, but I think from top to bottom Muir is better. Owens (read above), Marcus Graves (Ryan's little bro---great hands and routes), Myles Campbell (threat to go deep anytime and a FABULOUS pair of hands), Austin Daniels (EXCELLENT routes and a great blocker, as are all of Muir's WR's), Marcus Thompson (a threat at ANY time) Chris Dunlap (WHEELS!!!) and #19 (sorry I don't know his name, but he fills in nicely for the other guys and his height and length is impressive)

Anonymous said:

Javier Miranda is definitely the best receiver in the area, especially with the help of that Quarterback at SG.

Huckster!!!!!!!!! said:

The top receiver is Arness Ikner of Pasadena! The most electrifying is Trump of Pasadena and Amher Owens of Muir!

Anonymous said:

ya..why isn't Willum from arcadia up there??

ram horns said:

Gotta support temple city. Definitely the most underrated team in the area. If #8 and #10 can't get their names in the blogs, then you at least have to put #5, Joe Reasner. This kid is a beast on both sides of the ball. Ridiculously athletic with an attitude to match, Reasner blocks huge defensive linemen, tackles the best running backs in the area, and not only does he catch, he lays his body on the line to make catches. Oh not to mention, runs back kick off returns. Simply cannot look over Joe Reasner as one of the best receivers in the area.

javier miranda his stats show it leading the area in every category...

I think Brian Kimball from La Canada also belongs on this list. He is a 3 year varsity player and his hands are are as soft as anyone else I've ever seen play this year. He is one of the lone standouts for LC this year.

Goldenarm said:

The best receiver I have seen this year - on performance alone - was Trawick from San Marino. I realize he is not in the wide receiver category.

Sure-handed, runs flair, to the flat and over the middle, gets yardage after the catch.

BigA said:

Golper plays tight end.

Statistically, Arness Ikner is the top receiver. Talent wise, I think Walker would be it and then Ahmere Owens is a pretty good receiver as well.

Ikner wins in my opinion.

Anonymous said:

Garcia would be the best receiver hands down if the coaches at St. Francis would get the ball in his hands. Just look at his Avg per catch. C'mon Bonds!!! Get the ball in his hands already. Just ask people in the stands. The fans at St. Francis keep wondering why he hasn't got his chances lately. He's a playmaker!!! Get some balance in the offense!!!

fbfan said:

what about Eric Willm of Arcadia....he has 20 rec. 305 yrds and 5 tds in only 5 games

stang fan 04 said:

Owens is the best playmaker in the area. Of course i'm bias. If this kid got 10-15 touches a game he wouldnt even be close to anybody else. If you dont believe me get some film of a Muir game. I do have alot of love for trumpet(just not his school). He's good at finding the holes in the zone and has good footwork.

Anonymous said:

i wish Riley from St. Francis was playing reciever

Anonymous said:

you have to watch them all play, you cant go off stats. different schools run different offences. that being said, PHS two guys are special, but they force feed them the ball so there going to have great numbers. Muirs 22 is amazing. I'd love to see him in a pass first offence

Anonymous said:

ill tell you this. if kevan walker was back at wr this year he'll have this honor hands down. kid can flat out play
