Hey man, was just browsing through the internet looking for some information and came across your blog. I am impressed by the information that you have on this blog. It shows how well you understand this subject. Bookmarked this page, will come back for more. You, my friend, ROCK!!!
Great post!
Thank you for a great post
Excellent job.
Patrick "Ryan" Hauk #77 - La Salle. At 6'4" 230, he literally has Rettig's back covered. Has yet to let anyone get to Chase on his blind side and pulls to open holes for David Baier to walk through. Like many on the team, playing both ways as well.
it was all about our defense last night - David Vander Laan was on the attack, and Fisher ,Love, Wolter, and Flewelling didn't do badly either. Thursday showdown with Brentwood should prove to be great battle.
Scott
If you get a chance watch some film of last nights game. Our linemen really played a great game. Greg Fisher scored a touch down, David VanderLaan sacked their qb a few times and made the qb rush countless passes, Caz Wolter made hugh holes for Mark Love. We at MHS love these guys...
Dan Scheper of SF is an absolute beast. He has been the anchor of a relatively weak O line for the Golden knights compared to year past. If the young man had a little bit more size he would be playing D1 college ball next year. Reitnouer has also had a great season on both sides of the ball. He has tremendous natural talent and is starting to develop more as football player. I think that he could be playing on Saturdays
Scott
we look forward to seeing you at our game and hope you enjoy yourself.I think you'll enjoy watching our linemen.
RonW: I'll probably be at the Brentwood game.
Ahambra's O line is really good, full of big and strong limen. And #58 on the D line. wow never seen someone so determin to sack a QB (back to back sacks buring the Arroyo game impressive!)
Scott -
You should come to a Maranatha game sometime see the team in action.
I will tell you 6'1" 240 lb. Caz Wolter, LG, is great on O/L - - but he will tell you Greg, Chris, David, and the sophomore playing center are all great.
He grew up with Tosello (LC) and played with Reitnouer (SF) when Caz was center at SF his freshman year.
He is a quiet leader that is a wall staying home and protecting his young QB or pulling and blocking down field for RB Mark Love.
Good size, very aggressive, would fit in on any local team, plus he makes his father very proud.
I believe Munoz played for Workman.
where did anthony munoz play?
TONY BOSELLI , A GOD @ OT . I HOPE & PRAY that someone from the SGV will follow his example . Google him , he WAs one of the BEST OF ALL TIME . And a Trojan . Anthony Munoz was an SGV PRODUCT & a A Trojan TOO .He even PLAYED BASEBALL !!!
TM
I'll take that as a compliment Golden.
Anon 5:40 (way too many Anons out there): The best line I've seen so far I would have to say is Arcadia's, although I was impressed with Alhambra's front line the couple of times I saw them.
Caz Wolter -
#64 for Maranatha, senior. Ask anyone who has played against him what they think. Big and strong. Gentleman off the field - not so much on it. A true warrior that could start anywhere.
Scott
Have you had a chance to see any of our linemen? We'ld love for you to come some guys wo play with a lot of heart. Most playing both ways. Hope to see you at a game. Thanks for the support and listing three of our guys.
14 year old freshman capable of respect and effectiveness on the Varsity O-line? Definitely not a common occurence.
Could make the Galetti "things to do" interview" list.
scott, how about giving us YOUR OPINION.
which o-line group is the best among the teams you've seen play live... you make the decision!
It's good to see the "real" football players getting some love. No offense skill guys, but it's a hog-eat-hog world out there.
What's always so interesting to me is that Muir always has these RB's, WR's, and QB's that always make all-area and all-league, yet not many of the guys that actually make it possible for these athletes to shine ever get any love. It is rare when you see Muir lineman getting recognition for the job they do to open the field up for their skill guys. It seems to be assumed that the skill guys at Muir do it all on their own without the help of their line, and that's just not the case.
Anyhow, I just wanted to piggy-back on what a couple of other people had mentioned. I believe Muir's right guard is #62 and I'm pretty sure he is the starting freshman someone had mentioned. That kid is going to be special. Like any freshman he has his ups and downs but man can that kid play. Scott, there was a lot of hype about the 14 yr. old phenom Riley out of SF last year, I think this kid needs to be definitely recognized as well. #51 the d-end is pretty damn good too. If I'm not mistaken he was an all-league guy last year. He has had a handful of tackles-for-loss and a bunch of sacks.
But the other Muir bloggers are right, #52 Samuels is a BEAST! That kid is SO damn fast off the ball it's ridiculous. Every game I've attended he has at least one play where he sacks the qb BEFORE the qb can hand the ball off on a run play. I looked his stats up on maxpreps and his stats haven't been updated yet because I have personally witnessed at least 6-8 sacks, and I missed the Burroughs game. No joke, this kid is playing above and beyond the all-league and all-area level and has got to be recognized and rewarded at the end of the year.
Im sorry Rio Hondos line may be good but i dont think the areas best linemen can come from a team with a record like theirs. They are not even in contention to win the Prep league which is not that strong
Scott
The question and directions were clear. At least it wasn't the dreaded "Get Rid of Galetti" card. Hopefullty they will wait for the season finale before springing that one on you.
Keep the info coming.
Scott
which players have you seen? any guys from the smaller schools? I've seen a few of the smaller teams play and really beleive some of these linemen could play at bigger schools and start. ie a few of the Rio Hondo players, a couple from Maranatha and maybe one or two from La salle. I know no one beleives these smaller schools have players that good but they do. And some of them are not only Great football players but Great students who will get in to great schools.
I'mlookingatthelist: People were asking for this list so I put it up. I started it with players that I've seen and asked for people to throw out names and I would add them.
My list was simply a list with no opinion (that's what All-Area is for).
The only time I saw La Canada was for less than a half against Glendale and didn't notice any standouts at that time.
Obviously, having said that, the team has improved a lot since then.
All I ask is, maybe before pulling out the bring back Freddie card, you should read the whole post. :)
The best linemen is muir high school's Daveon Samuel (#52) he plays both side (OG/DT)...He is short guy but he play like a big man. If anyone has seen his game he stays making plays back 2 back offense and defense from pankcakes to sack the kid can do it all..
You missed Taylor Dinius. Rio Hondo
3 year letterman and wears one CIF championship ring. Each of his older brothers also owns one or more rings.
Tosello is a beast! I'm not buying the 2nd team all league argument because the guy that nominates players from LC doesn't know his players. In other words, I'm pretty sure that the other league coaches nominate the LC kids.
Ask the players in the league, he's the best. "Get real" thinks so...
I guess you'll have to ask the coaches in person. Let me know what you find out.
If anyone is interested in a GREAT DT, please feel free to follow John Muir Daveon Samuels(#52). Plays both ways and makes huge plays. If you played against or followed the school, #52 is the top linemen in the pacific League, PERIOD!! If u think differently, find someone who can block him.
ALMONT LEAGUE
BEST BACK(S)
ANTHONY BROWN IS #1
SAYS ALL THE EXPERTS(FANS)
AND HE IS SPECIAL FOR SURE!
...BUT.....
I PERSONALLY THINK IF I HAD TO GIVE THE BALL TO 1 GUY 25/30 TIMES A GAME IT WOULD BE DUSHINE SMITH. IF YOU SEMM HIM RUN IN PERSON HE LOOKS LIKE HE IS CRUISING THEN "BAM" HE'S GONE HE FEET NEVER STOP HE IS VERY VERY STRONG AND A TUFF TACKLE HE WILL DIP HIS SHOULDERS AND LAY THE HAT WHEN YOU TRY AND TACKLE HIM.. ANTHONY BROWN IS ALSO VERY TUFF INSIDE THE TACKLES THEN COMES A CUTBACK,SPIN,DIP AND THE BACK OF HIS JERSEY BY FAR THE BEST 1/2 COMBO...
AS FAR AS QB...??? THAT IS STIIL TO BE SEEN I CANT ANSWER THAT AS OF YET..MAYBE THE BIG KID AT MONTEBELLO FOR WHAT HE DOES IN THAT NO BRAINER OFFENSE THEY RUN.....WE'LL SE OVER THE NEXT 2 TUFF WEEKS WHO PULLS AWAY FROM THE REST...
LINEMAN....
ALHAMBRA'S 54 IS SOLID IF 58 PLAYED PULLING GUARD HE WOULD PANCAKE ALOT OF D'LINE GUYS BUT THEY ARE DEEP SO HE PLAYS ONE WAY(FOR NOW)....
i recon chase rettig is the best high school football player i've ever seen.
Ok, so this has now turned into "Who is the best lineman on your team" One of the unfortunate facts about being a lineman is simply that you get no glory, but every coach knows that all games are won or lost in the trenches. Way to give the hogs some credit though!
I've played against some of these mentioned lineman and I personally think the best lineman I've played is Chris Tosello from La Canada. He is big, strong, fast, and a leader. I wish him and all the other linemen a great season.
Edwin Baldelomar #54 O/L is a standout on Alhambra's O line and done a great job when needed on the D side. Erik Arias #58 has been dominate for the D, constantly after the QB!
RHL Parent-
Perhaps Chris Tosello is the best lineman this season. However, last season he was clearly not. He was 2nd team all RHL. Those big senior dudes at TC were the BEST. They were a HUGE part of the Back-to-Back RHL titles. Too bad Scott wasn't around then. Bring back Fred. . .He knows!
David VanderLaan a great linemen and great youngman on and off the field. A very soild student,on ASB, plays basketball and does track. The kid doesn't know the word quit, very tough, plays both ways almost each down. Pound per pound the whole package.
o-line is one thing but D-line thier is a clear best, Vincent von Schert. he is much better then Donnie Feilds.
-this is not vinny
The best lineman in the RHL for the past two seasons has been Chris Tosello of La Canada. That kid manhandles the rest of the lineman in the league. He's the only guy on their OL that gets consistent movement. If he isn't Lineman of the year in the RHL, I don't know what that league is looking for. His motor never stops. He makes plays down field. He is an absolute warrior. He could start both ways for most teams in the area. I wish he had some more help around him. Don't trust me, ask the kids he plays against.
o-line is one thing but d-line thier is a clear best Vincent von Schert. He is also much better then Donnie Fields!!!
-this is not Vinny
ScottG,
Could we always get a top LB blog and a top DB blog?
i don't know if any of you know this but muir has a 14 yr. old freshman starting on the o-line. his name is danny and he is really good. also on the d-line my boy daveon (d-tackle)has like 7 or 8 sacks maybe even more i'm not quite sure.
I personally think that even though the Kares have a had a first tough games, the duo of Greg and Eddie have to be my favorite, even though I am an Alumni from Flintridge I always love to see the Kares play, and there last two League games were a prove to the dominance of the Kares line.
As for the best O-line, I must go with Bobby Garrett from MHS. He shows leadership, blocks well, and motivates the O-line overall.
ATOMIC DAWWG
Sophomore Josh Lowden (DE) from Monrovia HS is by bar one of the best D-line I have seen within the last 15 years. I had the honor of coaching him last season as a O-line and he just diplays quickness and strength off the ball. Did I mentioned his high GPA?
ATOMIC DAWWG
Have to give it to David Vander Laan from Maranatha - workhorse! Plays both ways, team leader on and off the field - nevers give less than 150%
Take a look at Anthony Munoz's highlight films. You will see plenty of pancakes on pass pro. It's more common for a tackle as he is defending a speed rush.
The end is on the outside, and the OT essentially rides the guy's inside hip to the ground to the point that the end is on his back. That's how it's done on the pass.
Tony Boselli was good at that as well.
Sean Horace, Brian Smith, and Danny Romero of Blair have opened holes for Devin Fuller and Raheem Broadnex all season and that's why the Vikings have one of the leading offenses in the SGV.
It's good to see that Mr. Boykins family is very supportive. Can someone explain to me how you "pancake" someone on pass protection which is all phs does. What is with all of these phs fans posing as Arcadia fans. Very weak. You guys must really want to be like us or something.
Um i believe Patrick Thomas and Donnie Fields are both top linemen, they both play both ways other then Shaun Roos so i think theres a mistake there was that suppose to me a mystery or something so no team would noe who the real tough linemen are hmm.... good one. You have Donnie Fields who play right tackle and Strong side defensive end and is top 5 in tackles for the team and hes not top 5 HOW lol then you have Patrick Thomas who holds it down at left guard and still can some good pass rushing on defense. So Arcadia does have more better linemen then it says up top.
Stick your binoculars on a top notch pulling guard for a few plays. Whether kicking out the DE, trapping or turning it upfield and seeing the back cut off his block - I love that show.
I would have to give it up for Arcadia's right tackle...#78 Donnie Fields...6'2 280 with pancakes all over the field. I don't really watch the linemen so other than him I really don't know too much.
Well Charlene, what do you think?
I'd say Anthony Brown and Dushine Smith should be mentioned as running backs.
I liked what I saw out of San Gabriel QB Isaac Valdez.
#68 at La Canada - Tosello.
Kid is legit.
Who are the top running backs in the Almont League? One more thing, who is the best quarter backs in the same league?
Yes David VanderLaan at Maranatha is GREAT.. Smart,Fast, Big heart and very strong. The kid plays both ways.Maranatha is lucky to have him.
Nick Fry is a joke, I have yet to see anything even remotely remarkable from him. Williams Do should get credit over Nick Fry. Last Friday in the 2nd Half Williams would get wrapped up by Fry's man and Do would still run for 5 yards. He makes his own blocks.
i must say Jonathan silva is a big impact to the line, but they also left, senior edwin baldelomar out in his shadow. he too is a big part of this power house run game.
his thrown for that many yards on plays designed to counter the fact that they have a weak line..
Chase Rettig of La Salle would not have been able to throw for over 1600 yards so far this season without having an offensive line to protect him. Credit should be given to the whole line.
San Gabriel's-Alejandro Bobadilla he is one of the best linman in the almont league.second best at san gabriel behind matthew matsuda he started as a sophmore.he is explosive,a great run and pass blocker.Expect him to be all league this year.
Monrovia's Matt Calver #60, returning starter from last year as a sophmore. Quick, strong and a smart player. Most defensive takles are larger then he is, has demonstrated the ability to controll and direct them where he wants them to go.
Anthony Boykins-Pasadena High school.
Young up-coming,power and speed to go head to head with any DL or linebacker.
David Van DerLaan would be a standout in any division... He has the size and smarts to excell on any level...Don't overlook big time players in smaller programs!
Eric Becher - Temple City
Lateral agility and enough power to challenge head to head. Double-teamed even before the pre-game meal.
