Dawg 87 Style,
Thanks for sharing info about coaches at PHS. I had no idea about Coach Griffiths' issues. And I'm not surprised Jim Brownfield helped out when he could. Those were heyday years for Muir football and a kind word from Brownfield could open doors.

I'm glad to know you have positive thoughts about Coach Hamilton. I thought he was a real stand up guy.

And I KNOW that race was not an issue with him. When it came to students, he was COLOR-BLIND, seriously. He just saw young men and pointed them in the right direction.

May he rest in peace.

Dawg 87 Style said:

Phill B,

I like your top 5 and I respect it, but after these next 5 games I'm sure it will change!

Dawg 87 Style said:

Hal,

Mr. Hamilton was a great man and I knew him personally! We'll exclude him, but Coach Griff was a down right coward! I have over 250 football players that would agree all the way with me! He, Griff felt the African American athlete couldn’t cut it in 4 year universities! He kept a host of letters from players at 4 year universities. Mr. Brownfield from Muir had to help out some players at PHS! From 84 to 89 PHS had 45 players attend colleges after a stint in JC! 28 went o D-1 programs! I’m talking fact’s! He tore down our program single handedly! I suspect some true inside “HATING”! Won’t go all the way into that. Coach Loos was too a great person and Head man at Pasadena High, beside the coaches I mention Coach Mills is a fiery person who wants the best for those kids! No matter what the race!

BOSCO TECH?????? aRE YOU SERIOUS???? THEY GOT THE VOTES FOR #1 I think not, it goes like this

#2Arcadia
#3San Marino
#4 Blair
#5 Rosemead

Hal Lamaster said:

Tom Hamilton was THE coach at Pasadena High for decades. A legend. When all-time PHS coaches are mentioned, he would have to be at the top of the list.

Andrew

Thank you for the post. Nobody knows more than me that you have attempted to cover Bosco to the best of your abilities (your brother won't shut up about it).

And yes, that was the worst basketball game I've ever seen.

i know this is kinda jacked up, but said:

Hows about a bottom ten

Andrew: You left out the fact that Bosco plays its home games in Downey, which is closer to your new home, the Whittier Daily News. :)

Tech Support and HS FB Fan,

Please allow me to shed some light on the Bosco coverage situation.

No one on this paper has pulled for more coverage of Bosco than I have (you can ask Fred). If you look at the stories written over the last four years, not counting football, I've probably written about 70-80 percent of them.

The problem with Bosco is not so much location as it is with location of league foes. When Bosco plays it's nonleague schedule against local teams, games get covered. However, once you get into league, its hard to pick Bosco Tech-Mary Star over Pasadena-Arcadia or Temple City-Monrovia, two PSN schools.

Coverage has been poor at times, I'll admit. However, when Bosco has put together a solid team, we've covered them.

We covered 3-4 soccer games last season and had a few notebooks. That was on par with coverage of say La Salle or Temple City.

We covered about three baseball games last season and when Bosco had Tyler Polo (who was invited to play in the Star-News All-Star game) a couple of years ago, we covered about 4 basketball games and did a few notebooks. I know, because I covered almost all of those games, including the worst boys basketball game I've ever seen, when Bosco beat Bishop Amat 29-21.

As far as this football team goes, they do deserve better coverage than has been given. Now, I was a bit skeptical because of what happened last year when they jumped out to a 3-1 record only to lose out.

But this year's team is different. I covered Friday's game and was amazed they rebounded from such a horrible start. They deserve to be ranked somewhere between 4-6. But let's not get crazy. They're much improved, but not better than Muir, Arcadia or St. Francis. Good luck Tigers.

Dawg 87 Style said:

Anonymous,

Shine it on! Little man I'll be........The fact reamains, no one in the Pacific has played a tougher non league schedule.

Anonymous said:

Dawg Style,

Let me remind you... You have won two games. CV and Burbank...Relax big guy. You got little man disease.

Dawg 87 Style said:

Anonymous,

Since your so smart! Arcadia beat PHS 50-3 in 2005 and where was the class at that point? Oh, just what I thought! They couldn’t wait to send Pasadena High a message, but show ol Hoover class. Well, I know PHS can’t wait to spoil the good ol boys “Home Coming” and I hope you are there and root hard as hell in your anonymous suit while the Dog’s annihilate the Apaches! Crying and loser? Okay, you hold that thought “scary”! As for Mills being a role model? Do you know the individual personally? Probably not and to make a judgment on a person you don’t know tells a lot about you! Mills for what I know loves the kids first and no head coach in Pasadena High schools history has cared for the kids like Mills. Atomic Dawg knows a little bit about this too! Mills stresses education first and as an African American tell me one coach in our glorious city that is stressing that? Mills is hard on his predominantly African American team making sure they are accountable people and always looking at the big picture. Anonymous you are!

HS FB FAN said:

Anonymous, your are incorrect, in the 04-05 season bosco had some real talented athletes, Nick Acuna who ranked up close to 2000 yds in his senior year and Jonathan Gonis, That Year bosco was a force...

if your gonna talk... go ahead but dont talk with out knowing what your talking about.

The Stang Fan,

Donyae Coleman from Lynwood for one thing. That kid is a legit player. I haven't seen Muir's roster but I believe Lynwood has a bigger line, and their tailback is a bit faster than Mr. Pain Train in Willie Youngblood.

I am actually a bit worried as well that the Apaches have peaked early. I truly thing Lynwood was a quality victory despite their record. Look at the teams they play!

I like you Stang Fan, you represent Muir fan following very well.

Out!

The Stang Fan said:

Lynwood has more athletes than Muir? Really? Name them. I sure haven't read about any whatsoever. Maybe, the RB but that's about it. I'll tell you what, Arcadia has their work ahead of them with PHS and Muir, you guys may have POSSIBLY peaked early...we'll find out next week.

hahah said:

hahaha
thats a joke
arcadia hasnt played anyone with athletes...
lynwood? (more athletes than muir) st francis? ya ur right we dind do to well against either..except beat them by double digits
10-0 season coming

Tech Support, Not geography. said:

I meant West of the 605 and north of the 60. My mistake.

Tech Support said:

Bosco always gets shafted on coverage. They are north of the 605 so Trib doesn't cover them. They are West of the 60 so the Whittier paper doesn't touch them. They SHOULD be in the Star coverage area but for years that coverage has been spotty (when they were good in basketball they never had any press). So far we've gotten much better coverage this year so I give a thanks to that.

I'm not saying they are number one out here and deserve to get ranked ahead of the Muirs of the world. For one I've been at Bosco games so I haven't seen the other teams at all. And two, I know the "athletes" Bosco gets aren't as gifted as many of the other schools in terms of "measurables." But this team has executed so well in the first 5 weeks and its a credit to the coaching staff and the kids.

The true test will be against the Harvard-Westlakes, Serras, and St. Bernards in league of course. But 5-0, with all the disadvantages the team faces based on the way the school works is an accomplishment worth taking note of.

Hal Lamaster said:

Oh, you are saying St. Francis doesn't have athletes? That would be a first.

Arcadia beat them in week one.

I agree with you that Arcadia will have to step things up if they plan on beating Muir and PHS and going undefeated.

Their Burbank "escape" made them look mighty vulnerable.

pacific leage critic said:

i have to say i have seen every team in the pacific league and for the most part i am not impressed, however i dont think san marino or bosco could compete with the majority of them. Arcadia is not as good there record shows and they will be exposed as soon as they play a team with athletes(muir). Muir has some work to do, but once they get settled down there is no team better.

the real hsfbfan said:

cv lost to PHS already.

Anonymous said:

Where's South El Monte? They played such a grueling non league schedule....powerhouses such as San Dimas, Alhambra, Corona Del Mar.
After CV beats PHS will CV warrant consideration?

Big J said:

Bosco Tech shouldn't get any notice because they can't compete. Who cares if they're 5-0, they've never been a team that scares anyone. Nice try Bosco fans, but time to root for a real team.

HS FB FAN said:

the sudden spurt of winning i believe is coming from the change of head coach. This years head coach, coach shockley is the third different head coach in three years and this years team really looked smaller than the team last year but from my scouting the execution in play is much better.

hs45 said:

i can see them up there with those teams. i think what those two are arguing is that bosco tech is not getting as much attention as the more local schools, i.e. san marino, arcadia, etc.

i have also wondered the same. they surely have come up from last year though, where i believe they only won 2 or 3 games (non-league)
i would love to know where the sudden burst of winning arose from

Hal Lamaster said:

I saw Bosco Tech play on Friday and they looked good. BUT I can see them hanging with Arcadia, Alhambra, Rosemead, PHS, Muir or Blair, or South Pas or TC or La Salle, etc., etc.

FB4lifedawg said:

that's true, those teams are tough to beat

bosco just entered the southern section northwestern division rankings last week at no.9

HS FB MAN said:

Thanks im glad some one understands where i am coming from.. im just saying if PSN is gonna cover them why not cover them equally and fairly. its not fair to the program or the kids who go out there and play hard week in and week out

Bosco will have some real good tests in the upcoming weeks in which they should play junipero serra, and harvard westlake two Northwestern division ranked teams. so we will see...

FB4lifedawg said:

yeah i see your point HS FB MAN, they aren't getting enough coverage

other teams that are doing well, but not AS well have certainly been getting more attention and more paper time

it's questionable

Anonymous said:

Hey those Bosco Tech kids sure can play look out for them to win the the North west CIF Title!!!!!

??? said:

Just like you, Anonymous, to call kids "idiots"!
The voting IS ridiculous when someone can vote more than once...meaningless! But only you, Anon. would get so upset by it and call kids names. You're disgusting and should just go away.

HS FB MAN said:

yea i know they are 5-0 but my question is why are they not getting any credit from the paper when so many other people are giving them credit, ive been around to hear certain demographical politics like bosco tech is out out of the star news area there for not getting the coverage such as other schools like san gabriel and san marino.. but i dont know we'll see.. maybe scott can shed shed some light on this subject??

FB4lifedawg said:

dude, bosco is 5-0
of course they deserve to be up there
they're right up with arcadia who i believe is also 5-0

HS FB MAN said:

Whoa whoa whoa... Bosco? i wonder why the people thinks that bosco should be up there and the paper doesnt???

is it some form of politics
i dont know... but San marino deserves to be up there too ofcoarse

TcGuy said:

Friday was a Fluke? we're pretty deep into the season so far, week 5 least. SM is a good team but your no where near a CIF title. Its gonna be all about M-Town and TC this year once again for the RHL. If its not TC then it'll be M-Town I'll tell you that much buddy.

SMPride said:

you idiots are all jealous. Friday was a fluke, everyone look out for the 2007 CIF MidValley Division Champs! Gooooo Titans!

Anonymous said:

Wow, for having such high test scores, these San Marino kids are idiots. There's no way this is a rigged poll...

Hey SM Kids, next time you decide to rig a poll, at least make it realistic, and if you STILL want to vote for your team, at least leave it moderately believable.

JJIMENEZ said:

this poll is whack... You can vote for your team as many times as you want.

??? said:

Anonymous,
How about not putting down other schools and sticking to voting for who you like??
