For your information, I was a PROUD SENIOR FOOTBALL PLAYER FOR THE MUSTANGS. I graduated in the top 5% of my class and busted my @$$ all four years. I was accepted to all major colleges both in and out of state. Let me list some of them for you: USC, all of the UC's, University of Arizona and Arizona St., as well as Tulane, Ohio St., Miami, Washington St., and many others. When I saw your comment I was taken aback. It made me feel as if we at MUIR don't do much. Well, for your information, WE DO. What an obvious statement about Adam Tate. I think most coaches would take him over most or all SGV backs this year. Didn't Tate get a full ride to UW?

Philly B, if the rankings are overall, then why isn't Blair ranked higher than St. Francis and San Marino? We have a better record than both of those teams.

I've noticed that people are a little upset about the rankings, but some bare to realize is that the rankings are the overall record not just league, because if it was T.C. and monrovia would both be ranked, but since both of them had a hard time beating opponents in pre-league this is why Monrovia or temple city shouldn't be ranked, and since San marino had a good pre-league but failed to put it to good use in league play they should defnitely be out of the top ten in the area and out of the top ten in CIF. They will missed the playoffs because they couldn't get it done against monrovia, even though they had some favored calls by the refs. I think they're should be two games of the week. The Turkey Tussle of course because the league title is on the line, and Im hoping that it will be a good game and not one where muir has it under control by the 3rd qtr. Of course I still think Muir will win I want them to earn it against pasadena. I want the bulldogs to put up a good fight for four qtrs. Good Luck to both teams, but my pick is Muir. the MUSTANGS ARE BACK!!!!!(I know stang fan will like that one.)

It seems like Muir must have taken Arcadia's heart and invoked a major let-down. I do hope Arcadia gets things back together, though, for at least a second round appearance. But if they get a third place seeding then they may end up playing a first place team or a very tough second place team in the first round. Take it one at a time, though. No more pie for you guys.

Ok. Jr. Midget may be a bit harsh, but certainly Junior Varsity. Where do you think Corona Centennial, Norco or JW North JV teams would rank? Top 3? I do realize that those communities out there have a lot of our former teammates raising their families so it's sort of related...

If Muir opened Arcadia's eyes to the fact that other teams weren't going to "lay over" for them, how do you explain their loss to Burroughs following the Muir game.

BTW, a thought to some of the other Arcadia fans who used a lack of practice last week as a reason why they lost. Didn't Burroughs have fewer days than Arcadia to prepare for their game?

This is yet another one of those "which team is better" questions that will never really be answered. I think Muir would win big vs. AHS, but obviously I have my biases. I guess it is cool though that EVERY time the issue of best team in the area arises, Muir is one of the team always mentioned.

Are you part of the new breed of softies around The Town? Preferring to spend time in the new observatory rather than at the stadium? I don't think the Cats' faithful ever lost confidence in the players' ability. Any time the 'Cats want to they can come together and make a run at the Mid-Valley division. Hopefully that's the case. I don't care what Coach G recently said in the paper that their main goal was to reach the playoffs. If that's the case, they need to quit aiming so darn low. Is making a C-average the main goal in school too? MAKE THE PLAYOFFS? If you're the 'Cats in the RHL you better have a bit more self-respect than hoping to just make the playoffs!

Arcadia sure has taken a downfall. I can only hope that whatever slump these kids are in can turn it around this week and head into the playoffs with some momentum.

Muir probably opened their eyes that not every team is going to lay over and if your not ready for the big game, you will lose it.

I was really disappointed in Friday's game. Arcadia needed this one but it didn't seem like the kids were ready. Hopefully the light will turn on and they will win this week against a CV team who has upset some teams.

I am going to the Arcadia v. CV game on Thursday although I really want to see the Turkey Tussle.

I never wanted to suggest ranking Monrovia or TC above or anywhere near SF this year. My thought is that if Monrovia goes .500 we should not be ranked. If SF goes 4-6 or 5-5 then they should be ranked somewhere between 3rd and 6th. My thought is to rank the teams based on the likely head-to-head result AS WELL AS the results of their season. By the way, the three teams you mentioned that would beat all the wsgv teams - didnt two also beat SF. Does that point to parity across the sgv with sf b/c we would all lose to the same teams? No. Losses really don't prove anything. We all thought that SF had turned the corner by beating Los Altos, but Los Altos is not doing well this season.

If CV beats Arcadia and Burroughs beats Burbank, then CV, Burroughs, and Arcadia are all tied for third at 4-3 in league. If the tie-breaker is head to head competition than that would mean that both CV and Burroughs would have defeated Arcadia and they would recieve the third and fourth seeds respectively. Correct? I could be very wrong though. Anyone else want to chime in?

With all due respect, I unabashedly disagree with your contention that AHS would beat Muir. From what I understand your team is somewhat one-dimensional. I'm sure your offense has been doing well against other teams but I promise you AHS has not seen a defense as fast as Muir's. You would probably have success early on pounding the ball up the middle, but as the game continued the run would be stuffed. It's not like your backs could beat our guys on the edges either, then if you were to go the passing game our db's would more than likely shut your wr's down.

Here's the thing about this year's Stangs.....they are fantastically coached. Howard has done an excellent job in bringing in guys who are young and energetic and know the game WELL! That's why the second halves of our last 6-7 games have turned interesting games into complete blowouts.

Stang Fan- In your scenario, I believe that Burbank would not make the playoffs.
New York- SF in the middle of the top 10? San Gabriel would beat SF? Rosemead? Monrovia? TC? Most of the current top 10 would lose to Alemany, Loyola and Chaminade. Muir would be a slight favorite so I'd keep them at #1 and SF at #2.

SF should not be number 2. They should be somewhere in the middle of the Top 10. These rankings need to give weighting to the likely head-to-head matchup as well as the season they are having.

OG-I agree w/ you totally-when Alhambra football team is at full-strength they are the best team in the area-what people don't realize is that in front of best running back combos' hands down,Anthony Brown and Dushine Smith,is probably the biggest and strongest O-lines probably in california-not just Div.7-all divisions-6'3 6'4 6'5 across,260lbs 280lbs 300lbs-and with that great coaching move by moving oliverez to reciever and coach Gil's grandson,only a tenth grader,to give the Moors a passing threat???sophmore Mitchell Crockum wr 6'2 and jumps out the building,aslo plays saftey on defense,i'm mean all I can say is they got all the ingredients needed to get to the SHOW-Good Luck Moors!!!!!

St. Francis should be at #2. While anything can happen in High School football (like SF losing to Arcadia) I believe that St. Francis would beat any of the WSGV teams. It would be a close game for St. Francis against Muir and maybe Alhambra. St. Francis would likely go undefeated in all of the leagues covered by the Star News. Yes, SF would have defeated Arcadia if they had played in week 3 or 4. Too bad we couldn't see a Muir vs St. Francis matchup in the Rose Bowl.

It appears as if someone is trying to wreak havoc by using different names.
All the more reason the look into registration and stronger monitoring measures. Something I don't want to do.

although arcadia has lost 2 straight yes, you cannot say they are a horrible team. teams lose yes, but they are a good team. they should stay number 2 and if anything you do not put st francis OR pasadena in front of arcadia (seeing how the apaches beat both teams by double digits) they will pick it up this week with their starters getting healthy and start their run in the playoff

I agree with Anon,I do think Alhambra would beat both Pasadena and Blair but I don't think they would kill them.I really think Blair would give Alhambra a better game,and yes I went to Muir and I still Believe Alhambra would beat Muir..I know it's part of football but the 2 games Alhambra lost they had AlOT of kids out in key spots.When healthy I believe they are the best in the area.

Alhambra has a good team, no doubt. I went back and looked at some comparative scores. Alhambra outscored Temple City and South Pasadena by a combined 82-3.

But they only beat Glendale by 11. Pasadena beat Glendale by 22 and Blair beat Hoover (about the same as Glendale) by 35.

Would you rate Alhambra #2? Do you think Alhambra would beat Muir? How do you think they would fare against St. Francis?

Galetti has done a great job in a very dynamic environment. Occasional stats errors are expected with the volume of coverage.

As far as SF is concerned......everyone slow down. As I have mentioned MANY times before, SF has THE toughest shcedule in the area. Their schedule reminds me of Muir's old brutal schedule in the 80's and 90's, and I truly respect them for having that schedule. Listen, SF would beat every single team in the WSGV (except for the Stangs). Period. I know that Arcadia popped them early on, but SF would beat the Apaches right now. Some people mentioned that SF's losses don't prove anything......I disagree. Do you want SF to schedule nothing but the Keppels and Marshalls of the world. It's easy to schedule and beat up on a bunch of "easy" teams. What does that do for you? Where does that get you? If SF had Blair or Muir's schedule they too would have a winning record and we wouldn't be having this conversation. So Scott G, my vote is to keep SF at least in the top three despite their overall record.

Scott Galetti has done a horrible job running the PSN prep sports. He makes mistakes with stats and scores every week in the newspaper and has no idea what he is talking about.

After Blair beats La Canada they will be league champs and will focus on winning some playoff games. Blair should move up in the polls because of their success, but they are obviously no the best team in the area. Nonetheless it is good to see the Vikings winning and competing in WSGV.

About SF:
You can schedule the best teams but if you dont win what does it prove. You dont get points for close losses. Plus they lost to Arcadia who now has a lot of questions to answer after struggling to burbank and losing to burroughs. They might be able to beat alot of teams in the polls... but were is the proof to justify that.

St Francis' schedule is by far the toughest in the WSGV dropping them out of the top 10 because of a losing record is absurd. Alemany and Chaminade were ranked 4th and 5th in the western division. Saugus and Notre Dame are ranked in the LA times top 25. Los Altos was a highly touted team. I think strength of schedule means something. Besides Muir I dont think there is any other team in the area that would even have four wins against this schedule.

These polls are very confusing to me-how can a team that is 4-5 even be on a top ten list-and i'm sure chaminade is a good team,so what does that have to do w/ St. Francis? and move them to #2???????Come on now,buddy-#1MUIR-#2Arcadia#ALHAMBRA#4Pasadena#5San Gabriel....etc....

St. Francis is high in the rankings because they would be favored (heavily in some cases) against many of the area teams. And, yes, Chaminade is a very good team.

Having said that, St. Francis is now below .500 with a game to play.
