Congrats to Blair on winning league in a long-time. Also to my wildcats for getting a very good win at T.C. I wont rub it in to all of the T.C. fans. I want to but I wont. But can anyone tell me something about Sacred heart. And also Malibu, everyone is assuming that Blair is going to just destroy Malibu. In the playoffs you can't do that because anyone can do that.

Also congrats to Muir on winning league outright. I knew the mustangs could do it. But it wasnt a blowoue like I predicted. Pasadena is a good team. That is why they are in the playoffs. But as far as the bulldogs go I dont know. I really feel that Muir will go the farthest in the Playoffs. Good luck to T.C. this week agaisnt La Puente. the only school that figured out how to stop Harris and the Duarte Falcons.

I guess I'm a little late to this party. But you are utterly wrong if you think for one second that Muir would go 0-3 in your league and 2-8 with your schedule. We would've beaten all the teams you guys beat and we would've beaten Arcadia and Loyola for sure and 2 of the three league games. Again, one will never know, but I promise you we would NOT be 4-6 and we would definitely be playing in Week 11. Good luck next year G-Knights!!!

Hal Lamaster said:

Let's pretend that St. Francis had not played Arcadia. We would have no idea how they would match up with area teams since the opponents they schedule are usually out of area (and very good) teams.

They would be at the top of the area ranking because of their reputation and their tough schedule and the argument that no other team would have done better against those hard teams.

There would be some who believe that even if St. Francis went 0-10, they are still the best team in the WSGV.

But the Arcadia loss shows where the 2007 version of the Golden Knights are in regard to other area teams.

It's not piling on, just taking a hard look at the results of the '07 season.

Would the '07 team, with the injuries, beat Blair if they played this week? How about Pasadena? Alhambra, with its dynamic running game would fare well I bet. Teams like San Gabriel (co-league champ), La Salle (league champ) and
Monrovia (co-league champ) who are normally not mentioned as threats to beat St. Francis, would be intereting match ups THIS year. Don't you think?
Will the Knights rebound? Count on it.

I do remember Muir playing St. Francis in the playoffs a while ago.

Earlier post from SFHS89 actually echoes and agrees with several of your points.
Appears the Mustangs have won over at least one SF alumni..one who understands you don't pile a loss or a so-so season on the doorstep of an injured player.
Congrats on the Bell and good luck in the playoffs.

St Francis Fans:
Please you guys don't try to make this a personal thing between Muir and St Francis because I will BURRY You! We haven't played you in the last ten years, so why would you ask what is our record against you. You have seemed to schedule everybody in the pacific league EXCEPT muir( cv, phs, arcadia) in the last ten years. I know for a FACT we have tried to get you guys on the schedule in the last eight years and look at the teams we have been playing: Oaks Christian, Long Beach Poly, Bishop Amat, Loyola, Bakersfield, I can go on and on, point is were not scared of ANYBODY. And let's remember you lost to a team we DOMINATED, and I'm sure most would pick us to do the same to you. If you can't fill anybody in to be productive in place of an injured player then your roster lack depth. Therefore your not a top ten team, doesn’t make you a bad team, but you must reward teams who are WINNING. How do you expect a top 10 ranking with your record. You want everybody to feel sorry for you because of your schedule. But you have no proof to make your argument legit. Not to mention you have a higher enrollment and more resources than most of the teams in the area. You have teams like Blair who are doing a lot more with less and should be commended.
My initial remarks were not to "bash" SF because I actually like a few kids from that team. Riley has division 1 talent, and I think Kyle Morgan also has a lot of potential if used properly. But facts are facts and losses are losses.

Anon 11:49, Heyworth was injured against Notre Dame and it was reported. He tried to play against Loyola and that was reported as well.
It was mentioned again in Saturday's story and made the Whittier Daily News, but got edited out of the Star-News story because of space issues. I added it onto the online version.

If you have been reading these blogs. The Attitude of SF bloggers are that they were the cream of the Crop in the Pasadena Area and that everyone else could'nt compete if they wanted to. I see Stang 04's point. If you are all that than your record will show that. I am willing to bet that given the same schedule to other teams in the area they would come up with more wins. So keep it under your hat that all men are created equal not all teams.

SF does not make excuses aside from saying that they are playing a relatively tough schedule. When their starting QB gets hurt half way through the year and they are a predominantly passing team they are going to struggle. And they did.

St. F said:

To Stang 04,
St francis has a down year and you want to pile on? Year in year out, they have a great program and team. Muir would finish 0-3 in that league and 2-8 with that sched. What is Muir's record against St Francis in the last 10 years?

Goldenarm said:

Monrovia might get a boost in the playoffs from their kicker.

He wacked a 43 yd. field goal last night against TC, cleared the uprights with room to spare. TC blocked either one or two of his PATS due to low trajectory and good penetration.

TC also was burned by a fake field goal attempt -losing contain - allowing the Cats to maintain possession and eventually score. Crap, I almost forgot that bad memory.

Week after week I see excuses from you guys and it's a real disservice to your program. You guys simply just are not getting done. I commend you for your tough schedule, but you guys are not even winning your big games in league. A couple weeks ago one of you guys countered me by saying you would beat St. Paul. This didn't happen. You lost to Arcadia who was exposed later in the season. Even with injuries to a key player, a top ten team should not have as many losses. And I'm not trying to bad mouth your program but you can't keep expecting people to ASSUME who you would beat because your name is St. Francis and you have a tough schedule.

Goldenarm said:

Anons,

Not sure what game you guys saw. TC in control??
Not anytime after the national anthem was TC in control. Huge holes? Do might argue that one with you. There were holes, but the backers pinched in quick, and allowed minimal gains. Lowdwn for Monrovia did this several times.

I also disagree that 33 and 31 blew anything. Defensively, TC was on their heels - and to be effective against an offense like Monrovia requires a pressuring, disruptive style of D. You cannot "read" or sit back, waiting for multiple weapons to be hurled at you.

As far as play calling,I would have loved to see Williams Do one last time in the single wing. Likely that the coaching staff appropriately saw that ploy might not fly against a team like Monrovia, with their D alignment and foot speed. That 3rd quarter Do performance against SM was how I plan to remember Do's contributions - aweswome.

The reason TC DID NOT score 35 points is because Monrovia prevented them from doing so. THAT SIMPLE.

Tough loss - still stings today.

Observantcat said:

Goldenarm:

It looks like your Annonymous fans are fogetting one very important part of the game, and thats balance. Like I said back in July, Monrovia was finding itself and it's game. If you take a look at Williams or Smith and check out their running game, they could have easily made the TC roster, Do would have resorted to playing wide reciever or fullback. TC has very little Balance. Every team in the league could make the argument that they should score more points on obvious plays but thats why you play the game so that you make those plays and score. Going into the Playoffs TC will make some of those plays and not worry so much about how good the other teams are. At Monrovia we have been mainly complaining to the coaching staff about the use of the running game. Now that they put that into effect these are the results. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. This years Defense is much quicker than last years and still has a lot of growning to do. Their leaders are very aggresive and it seems like thats whats getting the job done. Like Golenarm said It could have been even worse had Monrovia capitalized on all of its mistakes.

I was at the prep league tie breaker this morning, and Chadwick won. Poly scored on their first, but missed the extra point, then chadwick scored on 4th and goal and made the pat, to win

anonymous said:

I just found out last night that Austin Heyworth from SF tore the ACL in his knee 3 weeks ago. The Golden Knights would have won easily the last two weeks had he been under center. Its a shame because this years SF defense in one of the best ever. Without Heyworth the offense looked terrible and was one dimensional. Play calling is an issue over there for sure. Why wasnt there anything in the Star News about Heyworth being done for the year?

Anonymous said:

I agree, TC should have had at least 28, maybe 35 points in that game last night!!!!! And 31 and 33 for TC blew a couple huge plays giving Monrovia TDs. Could have been very different.

Anonymous said:

Last night was definitely not the same TC team from the last few weeks! The players just gave up it looked like, in about the beginning of the 2nd quarter.
TC looked to be in control, but missed a couple wide open receivers, and a bad punt and things got bad! That was how thing were early on this season and us, the fans, thought that was gone! I guess not!

P.S. The TC play calling was Great! Wide open receivers, huge holes, but overthrowing or missing one block and the play was dead!

Poly, Chadwick, and Viewpoint are going to play for third place at Flintridge this morning, in fact they probably already have, though I do not know the results.

There will be a coin flip and the winner of the flip will sit out. The other two teams will play a college style over time tie breaker. The winner of that tie breaker will play the team that won the coin flip, again in a college style over time. The winner of that will be the Prep League's 3rd place representative.

You might want to take a look at the local small schools and their achievements this year
One or more of these schools might go deep into playoffs and who know a CIF championship
La Salle – After a dismal start they go 5 and 0 in league with a 1st place finish in the Camino Real league.
Rio Hondo – Congratulations P. Finchamp. An overall 5 and 4 record but when it counts you go undefeated in Prep League.
Flintridge Prep – An impressive 7 and 2 overall record and 4 and 1 in Prep league and 2nd place.
And my beloved Maranatha Minutemen. After a tough start and devastating injuries early in the season you guys put it together and go 4 and 1 with a 2nd place finish in the Alpha league

Good luck to all the local schools going into playoffs.
Let’s bring home a couple of championships to the West San Gabriel Valley

O-cat,
Thanks for not jamming the "we kicked your butt" spear into my throat. Because you did, it was a complete knock down. The loss still hurts because we didn't look ready, which is difficult to fathom.
The game turned in the 1st quarter. I believe it was either Reasoner or Sebas wide open deep down the left sideline - 6 or 7 yds behind the defender..good protection, but the pass was long and errant, not catchable. Sure TD lost. Following that was a shanked punt for lttle or negative yds and boom - the Cats were on the 35, and believe me - it was NOT a night to give the Cats such an easy and early opportunity. A few plays and a crucial down conversion later - 7 zip. Another sure TD escaped TC as Do exited the backfield into the flat on a pass play, the defender 5 yds behind him up the sideline - again the ball sailed totally out of his reach. It was 16-0 at that time, and dreams were still alive. It was not a great throwing night for Hatch, but the kid hung tough all year - the Cat D line was in his face a few times as well. REGARDLESS - every time a big play was needed, 3rd and 25 or whatever..the Wildcats pulled it off.
It was the hideous O-cat "baby steps" theory from there on out.
Williams has great field vision and sneaky acceleration. Smith looked unreal on a couple plays. Your O-line deserves serious recognition for letting Haggard(sp) smoke cigars in the pocket and check off on 2 or more recievers, then finding the one he wants. He has a strong gun - last night he threw a couple passes behind guys, but when your target leaves a vapor trail behind him - timing can be somewhat diificult. There were a couple drops - otherwise it would have been high 40's rather than 37. The kid is a good QB - I wish him well in the playoffs.
As a safety or DB the common and universal credo "don't let the dude get behind you" didn't happen for TC last night. "Victimized" sounds like a fitting term.

Thursday was a much better day - watching the JV kids play their guts out - giving every ounce of everything they had to beat what anyone would call a superior Monrovia team - by roster, anyway.
Hopefully - 1/2 those Wildcats will transfer to Servite next season.... sorry, reaching for any kind of humor I can this morning..

Congratulations to the Monrovia squad - put together a couple complete games like last night -and post-season victories are gonna happen.
Impressive.

Matadors win their first league title in 32 years and they get nothing more than a mini write-up? Weak.

Congrats to Coach Jones and the staff at SG, who showed what it's like to win with class and dignity. That's a concept the trainwreck down the road (Alhambra) will never understand.

Lou Torres let's that program run out of control by turning a blind eye to all their antics because he's blinded by his idol worship of Ruedeflores. Since when did a guy who has a record under .500 earn god-like status anyway? Torres knew Babb was ineligible for the first round of the playoffs last year and let him go out and play anyway because it will never be about doing what's right at Alhambra. It's about winning at all costs and trying to create the culture of being a big time program without actually winning games.

He's so consumed with the football program and Ruedeflores, he neglected the other programs at his school and they got hit with a Title IX lawsuit. Yet he still got to keep his job as AD? When will the AHS administrators pull their head out of the sand and realize they have a football program and an AD who is nothing but a detriment and a black eye to the school and the community?

Thanks for the JV updates this year. How did it all pan out across the league? I know that SM ended up 3-2 in league with losses to MHS and LC. LC ended up 3-2 with one point losses to both TC and MHS. What about the rest? By the way is it just me or should this league be a lot of fun to watch at the varsity level next year with four JV teams all in close games? TC beats MHS by 1, Both TC and MHS beat LC by 1, SM beats TC on a last minute deep ball... Should be good next year.

Well now you got a chance to see first hand what the Cats are capable of doing each and everytime they step to the field. Haveing a great running tandem like the ones that played last night. I didn't want to predict the score to be the way it ended up because I know that TC comes to play the Wildcats but it looked like mindsets were reveresed in this game. William Do was as predictable as a bad poker player and the one demensional play calling by the TC offensive coordinater didnt help things either. This might be a good game for TC going into the playoffs with something to prove, because it's really a new season for the teams that have made it. If you look at the Program from last night, Next year looks even scarier. But on the real good luck and I hope to see you guys again this year maybe in the Semi's. I think you can handle most teams in this division. Hope you dont get Duarte first. They have years of abuse to settle with TC.

Well, my alma mater lost tonight at home to St. Paul and are out of the playoffs.

I know the school administration has no backbone.......but they need to really consider not only making a change at head coach......but they need to overhaul the athletic department.

As one who played football and ran track there, it's embarassing (to say the least) that Saint Francis does less with more.

The soccer program has produced winners for 20 years. Winning a few CIF Championships has been the tonic for a school whose boosters have pumped a ton of money into the atletic program.

I will root for the Mustangs in the CIF Playoffs. I like the makeup of that team and think they can do some damage.

Because in the mind of Tip, and only in his, there is a huge diffence between winning 41 to 15 as compared to 42 to 15. At least Wheeler has some class - last year LC could have beat Blair 100 to 7 and Peterson who averaged 36 yards per carry against Blair could of had 700 yards but Wheeler took him out mid- way through the second quarter with only 10 carries and 360 yards. At least Wheeler understands there is an ebb and flow of talent at these schools from year to year.
