My prediction, Maranatha 24 – St Margaret’s 21 in the upset victory. Love will have the game of his life and our defense will stick it to the Tartans" - Tom S

wow...you nailed that prediction Tom...way to go. I especially like the "wind" part...Classic.

Anonymous 3:11pm,

So I am on the wrong coast and Coach Welsh is in the wrong division, huh? Somebody could argue that Maranatha's head coach is also in the wrong division. Perhaps he should be apprenticing as an assistant at a local college on his way to a great coaching career...

I deliberately cited "the few Maranatha supporters" rather than saying ALL Maranatha supporters. THAT would have been ignorant. Likewise, your assumption on where I live and my background is ignorant as well. Would it be more appropriate for my screen name to be: Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Cambridge, London, or any other fine city in the world? Maybe I am on the wrong coast. I'd love to be hanging out in Hawaii right now. Miami is nice this time of year as well.

No need to bash New York City, some place where you have "been many times." Have you ever lived there? Several million people would disagree with your opinion (as I'm sure several million non-New Yorkers may agree with you). Anyway, no need to continue the tradition of a select few posters who continually insult their neighbors alongside the support for their school of choice.

It's great that you all praise your kids and coaches, but why say that Harry Welsh is like a prison warden and better suited for the public schools?

Muir's former co-Head coach was an All-CIF QB at Maranatha in the 1980's. He now coaches at Oxy. The only reason to ignore those who came before is to direct all credit to those who are there now: parents who raised money for the new facilities and their kids who are playing. Maranatha has a great tradition. Why ignore it?

To all the other posters:
There is no need to take shots at Maranatha. The few bad apples are likely part of the fan base (just like most schools), not the players and coaches.

Good night and good luck.

Hey Marantha fans.

All season you have preached what a moral giant your little coach is... but rumor has it he doesn't even speak to his own brother who also teaches at the school? Any truth in that? This sounds a bit hypocritical to say the least???

Now that isn't the type of character building/ role model I want my son to experience. There are better examples of brotherly love at your local public school!

"After halftime, they changed their defense and shut St. Margaret's down.

...when it was 42-0 (snicker)...That's okay, If St. Margaret's went on to score any more in the 2nd half, the Maranatha flock would have been pulling out the class card (again) and screaming about running up the score.

Anonymous said:

New York,

Aren't you on the wrong coast? What were you running from? Having been to New York many times, I can see why you split but really shouldn't you have stayed and been one of solutions?

Maranatha got beat by St. Margaret's this year because St. Margaret's has Harry Welch for a coach. He's like 72 years old and has coached D1 for ever. He has seen it all and is a self proclaimed task master. Should he be coaching college instead of slumming with a D13 small school? Of course, but he is getting near retirement, there were all the rumors about Canyon and CIF investigations, St. Margaret's is close to his grandkids, it would be hard to resist the money, the location, and hoping to finish up your career under the radar.

The Minutemen got out coached but with the exception of number 33 on the Tartans, they were the more athletic and physical team. After halftime, they changed their defense and shut St. Margaret's down.

If you know anything about Maranatha, you know their program really is very young. In fact you may know besides not having a stadium, they didn't even have a campus until two years ago.

Are some of the boosters over the top? You betcha. But really, how about the Anonymous posters that have it in for Maranatha? What they are writing would be pretty offensive to anyone. Trying to blame those posts on the few Maranatha people that are a little out there is pretty ignorant.

Anyway, it's over now. Nothing to do but hit the weight room, work on those drills, and get ready for next season.

MHS #2,
I never wish for any group of teenagers to lose. I just wish the few Maranatha fans filled will self-proclaimed righteousness would stick to football and not try to jam your sermons down our throats. By the way, Maranatha has been playing football for many years. Just because you only recently got your own stadium does not mean that you did not have a football program. Didn't Muir get their own stadium only in the last five years?

Wow, this afternoon there were 7 left and now 0. Hard to believe that no local WSG schools will even make the semi-finals. Scott, your predictions took a dive this week. Let’s see you’re 2 and 5 and Cal Preps 6 and 1.
Anon 10:09 is right, let’s get the soccer and basketball blogs going.

The wildcats didn't get the better end of the wishbone. Great season Monrovia, and good luck to the winter sports teams. Every winter sport looks to be on their way to make CIF playoff.

mhs fan #2 said:

well I guess anonymous, New York and the rest of the Maranatha non-faithful got what they were wishing for - we lost, but not to fear - the program will build on what was started the last 2 years. Our young men played with class and sportsmanship - more than I can say for St. Margarets. They learned much more than plays from Coach Murphy, and those lessons will stay with them much longer than the loss will - great season Minutemen - hold your heads up.
Sorry to see the other losses in the San Gabriel Valley - Coach Sanders, Coach Backus, Coach Gallagher - great men and great leaders.

Better fire up those soccer blogs scott- the WSGV is done.

Just click and listen to Galetti's interview with Backus - you will know what I know about Bishop Diego
As far as a game summary..that can do...just hoping it is a victory summary at this point

Hey Goldenarm! Let us know what happens tonight ASAP! My family is out of town, can't go tonight.

How do you know so much about our boys? Are you a coach?

Anonymous said:

I may have to root for St. Margarets so that the Maranatha fans will be quiet for a while on these blogs - who knows what they will post if they win.

New York said:

Why do so many Maranatha fans continually pat themselves on the back for something as subjective as "moral character" while putting down the public schools for supposedly not having any? If you want to send your kids to private school, fine! To each his own. Be secure in your decision to do so and stop continually justifying it to yourselves by taking shots at the local public schools. What gives you the right to bash organizations that you ran away from? If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem. Is running from problems a sign of strong character that you claim?

mhs fan #2 said:

Harry Welch should be ashamed of the way he "leads" his players. If nothing else, I want my Minutemen to win only because perhaps it will show all the naysayers that a young, respected, and morally sound coach like Joel Murphy is the best of what coaching should be - GO MINUTEMEN

Goldenarm said:

Bishop Diego is coming off two shutout victories. The Rams limited LP to minimal rushing yards last week.
IT IS ALL ABOUT DEFENSE TONIGHT!
BD has scored over 300 points reaching 9-2,the Rams cannot make this a high scoring game.

We can do this!

Harry Welch Fan,

Harry Welch Fan????

How could anyone be a fan of that man. This is probably the greatest contrast of coaching character in High School football history.

Joel Murphy is one of the best young coaches in the state and has a tremendous ability to command respect with his strong leadership and good character.

Harry Welch is quite the contrast to that. Mr. Welch comands his kids to get it done or else. He is more like a prison warden. I work with someone who played for him at Canyon. He said that all of the players hated him but they did what he said because they had no choice.

That's not the kind of coach that should be at St.Margarets. A public school perhaps, where strong moral character has mostly lost its priority, but not a school that SHOULD have a mission of building character.

Go Minutemen!!

I am hoping for another great game from Pasadena and another big win, they have the talent. And as for Big Daddy, not only do you sound ignorant but you also sound foolish. What do you think your kids in high school do as well as their little friends at the small private schools? they have just as disgusting a vocabulary when you're not around. and what do young people in the military have to do with football? people in the military don't use profanity? i don't care how much money you have wasted on your children's tuition's, they are not any better than a kid from a public school. open your eyes ignorant man.

how wack is the comment made by hunter on st margarets saying... Over the summer weve learned to play nasty.. Whats that supposed to mean.. Anyways minute men will bring it and be victorious
go minutemen

Betcha St Maggies wins by at least 40 points. I know you can't think like that, but it's Harry Welch dude. He can't be stopped.

Dear tom s,

Did your coach (Murphy) say you had a "young team"? With 20plus seniors on a roster of about 30 how in the heck are you a young team? Shame on you.

Tom S said:

All right, here’s my take on tomorrow’s big second round Northeast playoff game. My beloved Minutemen must play error free football against the highly favored St. Margaret’s team. Also as Coach Murphy said in the interview with Scott a little luck won’t hurt. I do believe that the Minutemen are the team in the best position to beat the Tartans and deny them back to back championships. Maranatha’s strong defense must stop St. Margaret’s powerful scoring machine. If the Santa Ana winds kick up as predicted I think that might help the Minutemen's quest to win the championship.
My prediction, Maranatha 24 – St Margaret’s 21 in the upset victory. Love will have the game of his life and our defense will stick it to the Tartans
Go Minutemen !!!!!!!!!!

In support of small schools. I have been a fan of small schools for the lst 10 years. Went to the Pasa vs Muir game and do to the behavior and language will not attend another large public school event. The booing and every other word "F" out of young peoples mouth was disgusting. Also, do not like to go thru a metal detector and wait 45 minutes to get into a game. What a disaster the librals have allowed our young people to become. Thank God for our young people in the military.

My boys at Blair win big, TC comes home happy, La Salle in for a dog fight, Monrovia goes to the next round…Great football being played by our boys.

QUESTION: What do Monrovia, Temple City, Blair and La Salle all have in common?

They are all still playing AND are also in the SAME CIF Mid Valley Division. I have seen a few great articles in the Star News on Monrovia and Temple City. Today’s Cat’s article is great. I have also seen nice ink on Blair’s great run this year. I love to see these schools covered and read up on our boys in the West SGV.

There is ONE team that has been absent from any real press since the playoffs began. Scott, come on man. Give those boys at La Salle some ink. La Salle may be a small school but they are in the same division as the other school listed and also still playing. They are playing long after some other schools that earlier had mucho press and have now been eliminated.

Share the love and share it equally. OK, time to go throw down some turkey. Grats again for all the teams that are still playing after Thanksgiving.

Go Vikes…

I am thinking positive on the TC Rams getting a win. A couple things that would help in getting it done:
1)The "D" needs to play with "bad intentions" like they did against L.P. last week.
2)Rams need to sustain offensive drives, going first down to first down, not seeking the big play. Drives cannot be cut short with a fumble or bog down on the opponents 30 yd line. The "O" line needs to set this tone on the first possession!
3) Completion of a couple mid-range passes at the opportune time.

The concern on my mind is the big play, like those that have hurt TC this season, often coming on a third and long - or desperation situations. The deep pass over the middle, lost contain on the sweep, INT in the flat, returned for a TD.
Alot of if's I know. It may take mistake-free football this Friday for TC to advance. It is all right there - they just need to take it.
