I hear SM has taken 1 coach from the junior varsity level and 1 coach from the varsity level from TC. The departed coaches still seem to be nameless but I'm sure Backus is having a fit.

Who the coaches are? ...two hardworking guys that will help the SM kids

Sm fan said:

goldenarm,

WOW 2 tc coachs are head this way! ! any word on who they are

New York said:

Goldenarm,
I agree completely. SM knocked off Blair last year. They have a never-quit character in that town.

Goldenarm said:

NY
not sure about enrollment, but the RHL should expect an improved product as MM puts his fingerprint on things.

New York said:

Does San Marino have open enrollment?

Goldenarm said:

Going along with the Mooney topic...

word is at least two TC coaches have headed west down Huntington Drive - headed for Titan Land next season
????

BigA said:

Another imposter post.

New York said:

More importantly, can Mooney convince Maloney to join him.

Goldenarm said:

#1,

MM visits here on occasion. Possibly he might venture a reply to your coaching question.

NY,
If he shows up at Mtown, I hope it happens AFTER some bizarre RHL realignment...I like him as an ally rather than adversary

isn't mooney at san marino
is he coaching next year?

New York said:

We need to bring Mooney over to MHS. He could be our Principal and maybe more. Mooney + talent pool = bowl game.

Thanks for the good word..appreciate it.
I miss the Mooney professionalism as well. He is a program builder for sure, I still remember some of his motivational rants...damn good.
For me, it can be
challenging - remaining diplomatic when you feel gutshot after a 45-0 Wildcat butt-kicking takes place in your own house. That was tough. The rivalry blood is in my veins as well..but it is tempered by respect for the game.

Philly B
Thing is, I have watched that freshman crop(juniors next season) at Monrovia go to JV (some varsity)..and as I said two seasons ago - huge potential is there. I know talent has been in house before and things did not pan out, but my gut still says next season may be different for the Cats. It will take dissention or some gross coaching blunder to TOTALLY derail it...the horses are there.

That said, of course I would want the one off game to be against the Rams.

Philly B. said:

Well said Goldenarm. Monrovia had the talent this past year but they were inconsistent, and at times coaching was questionable. But as far as making the All-CIF or watever. I doubt those kids care about that. They rather win the league title outright, and then win a CIF title. But as far as that goes I just dont know about that happeing, when we have to play schools from up north like paraclete and Santa Clara. Dont get me wrong I love the Competition and challenge, and I dont want our division to get watered down for monrovia or any of these other schools just to win a CIF title but at the same time I wanna see a mid-valley division team from the local area to go farther than the 2nd round

NY: I'm not sure if the selection process has changed, so to speak. It's just handled by a different organization.

Goldenarm said:

NY
If the LA 84 Foundation Team is any indication of things to come..their may be new change agents at work in CIF...is their a new crew at work in the governing body?

I thought the ALL CIF format was fairly good - and has weathered time and criticism.

The way Scott G describes this process - where the chosen ones are clumped together in odd groups on a tally sheet... sounds a little wacked, but maybe they have a plan. Lets hope so.

Campanario said:

Goldenarm, I swear,

...between you and the departed Mooney, it's getting dang hard to despise TC. Mooney is an unassailable guy, you are smart, diplomatic, and about kids...
What's the world coming to? A Cat fan and I have to admit to appreciating TC folk?!
Ok then, I admit it.

Goldenarm said:

Monrovia Wildcats may dwell in a lightly respected league and division, they may have at times played so inconsistent as to piss off their most faithful fans...BUT, to downgrade the individual talent on the Monrovia roster would indicate the observer may not have seen this team on the field. It may be easy to paint a broad brush picture of SGV football as sub-par when stacked against other regions, but that points more towards programs than individuals.

Even in the big fish bowl mentioned, some of the raw talent at Monrovia would rise to impact player potential.

SGV Observer said:

I heard a rumor that the Pacific League somehow missed the meeting for the Central Divison CIF voting. That would explain the paucity of players from the league.

New York said:

Goldenarm,
Great posts. What's with CIF these days? They get rid of numerical divisions, they don't publish an All-CIF team?

Tom Joyce,
Any chance that you work in NJ?

New York said:

Kiper,
MHS fan usually represents Maranatha on this blog, not Monrovia.

Why bash Monrovia? If you are from Loyola, why are you even repping the Western division, whose top 10 rankings are filled with former division 10 teams.

If you are going to attack Monrovia, then mention something insightful such as our inconsistency. Don't try to insinuate a lack of "big-boy" talent.

Kiper said:

None of those cats would even get a glance in the Western Division. As Scott said, they would be matched up against the Big Boys all over the Southern Section. Like I said, they were good in a smaller school division. I attended Loyola.

BigA said:

Todd Golper did not make All-CIF? Hmm. All-state player yet does not make CIF. There is something amiss here, anyone know why the Pacific league had only one player make it? That is absurd considering the Pacific league this year did a lot better than last year. Last years Pacific League had more CIF picks than this year? That does not make any sense.

Golper, Walker, Ikner, Youngblood could and should have been names there along with Crockham.

ScottG said:

I had a list faxed to me, and I'm not sure if it's online.

Because of the number of players, I kept it to the locals on the blog.

Goldenarm said:

My guess is someone may try to fix this disjointed mess and return to something resembling an "All CIF" 1st/2nd team, along with other established categories. Even the "football coaches advisory committee" sounds like some politically corrected version of who knows what.
I agree with others, the picks seem bizarre with omissions aplenty, Golper being the most blatant.

A little simplicity would be much appreciated by all.

Anonymous said:

Scott;

Is there a way/place/link to find the entire teams? Thanks.

Scott Galetti Author Profile Page said:

P: I've heard, not confirmed, that since CIF is not putting out the lists, as was the case in girls volleyball, that they're not posting it.

Scott Galetti Author Profile Page said:

Vander Laan made second team. You're forgetting, I saw pretty-much every team at least once this year. Yes, I saw your big players do well against Brentwood.

I also saw Pasadena's best players against the top area teams, I saw Muir against Pasadena and Arcadia; Arcadia against St. Francis; St. Francis against Los Altos, Loyola and St. Paul.

And that's not counting Alhambra, San Gabriel, Temple City, Monrovia, La Salle, etc.

Finchamp made it because he's a kicker. Outside of that, not to downplay Maranatha, the competition's a bit steeper up above the ranks.

MHS FAN said:

Kiper

Have you seen any of the three play? I don't think so because all three could have played any where in SGV and started. A few of these boys attended linemen camps and got looks from big named schools. so be for you put down some hard working players get your facts straight.. I'ld love to know who you played for?

P Finchamp said:

Scott

I went to CIFSS.org to see the list but can't find it on their confusing website. Can you direct us to the CIF site location to view others in the respective divisions who made it?

Kiper said:

The MHS players are big fish in a small pond in their division, but then they are a small fish in a big pond when compared to all players regardless of their division. Get over it.

MHS FAN said:

Scott

Funny MHS had three guys on the list and yet no first team all area.. Something to think about...I think you missed the boat but that said you did do a good job with coverage of most of the smaller schools

Scott Galetti Author Profile Page said:

There's really not too much not to understand. The whatever they're called coaches list (should be All-CIF) is voted by the coaches association by Division.

The All-Area isn't by division, it's everyone in the area. If Williams wouldn't have missed so many games, he probably would've been on the list, no question about it. The team struggled without him.

They were 2-5 against teams with above .500 records, and 1-1 vs. teams with .500 records.
Having said that, they finished strong in league and gave Paraclete a battle.

Todd Golper from arcadia did not make this list? He was 1st team all state underclass. He had a good game against racno verde too.

rhl fan said:

I think you really haven't embraced Monrovia as one of the best in the valley in football.

rhl fan said:

4 all-cif players and NO all area 1st teamers .just don t understand

Scott Galetti Author Profile Page said:

Goldenarm, that might be the best one yet. They don't do a first or second team either, it's just a list of offensive and defensive players with 19-20 or so players on each list by name and school.

MHS FAN said:

Congrats to David, Tom and Daniel..You guys are great...

Tom Joyce said:

Congratulations to all the players , coaches and support staff. This game can teach some great life experiences and develop the discipline and drive that are required in a free enterprize economy.
Keep up the good work.

"All CIF sounded alot better.

Tell your buddies you made the L.A 84 Foundation Team, they may think you joined a non-profit food bank from Santa Monica.
